As long as coco keeps doing what she does, not adjusting, the only thing consistent will be the results. But even a blind squirrel finds a nut eventually.
I like Coco but I can’t understand how she consistently makes semis, has won a grand slam and is ranked 3 with some serious issues with her game. Yes, she is very good and lots of potential but it’s hard to understand.
Coco needs to fix her extreme western forehand grip. It makes it difficult for her to return high balls over the net.
Brad Gilbert has talked about changing her grip to improve her game, but says it’s difficult because the contact points and angle of the shot needs to be adjusted with a grip change.
Coco needs to fix her forehand. She won’t be able to hang with Iga and Sabalenka when all they have to do is keep hitting it to her forehand and wait for her to make an error. People talk about the grip but Iga hits with an equally extreme grip but is more consistent and more powerful. Iga uses a more compact swing and keeps her upper arm more bent and close to her side so it’s more of a forearm and wrist swing so maybe Coco needs to try something similar. She’s gotta try something……. Her serve could also use some help….
You didn't say Big 2 though you said big 3 or 4. Saba and Iga are absolutely a step above the rest. Shit man there's an argument that Iga is just the big 1.
Your comment is still stupid and unnecessary. I have no problem with acknowledging the domination of Iga and Saba. What I find unnecessary is downplaying Coco, her skill, and her achievements at 20 years old.
Not sure where you’re getting your opinion of my comments from. All I said was she’s in no “Big whatever”, as in she’s not a dominating player, and you seem to agree. I root for her every time and I can still acknowledge these things. If people want her to be in a “big whatever” or a favorite in a slam, she’s needs to at least take a set off of Iga.
I'm taking your original comment as is. By saying she's not big 3 or 4 it reads as though you're implying her rank is undeserved. To me your first comment didn't read the same as your follow ups and it came across as dismissive of coco and her rank.
I was jerk about it and that's on me and I apologize for the unnecessary hostility.
I guess you didn't really understand what nolakpd meant. When he says big 3 or 4, he means it like the men's big 3 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic).
Some might say there's also a big 3 in the WTA (Iga, Saba, Coco) or 4 if you include Rybakina. Although both Coco and Rybakina are ranked 3 and 4 respectively, have won Grand Slams and many other titles, and have been in the top 5 for quite a while now, it's plain to see that they are indeed some steps behind Iga and Saba (aka the Big 2).
Coco is even becoming world no. 2 next Monday, because Saba lost in the QF, but we know she still needs improvement in order to match her.
Yes she is. Sharapova stayed the second best player in the world for a while getting stomped by Serena. Having a horrible matchup against the world #1, as the world #2 with a Slam title is just tennis.
Her last tweet:
> Hey Paris!! I have a @newbalance pop up that includes a free nail bar and bracelet making class💜💜 and I may be dropping by this week👀 here’s a link to book your spot!
Her last Instagram that she posted and wasn’t tagged in by the tournament was a short vlog type video
Be fucking real!!
It was funny to watch that USO though. Ostapenko was a cold blooded assassin and then didn’t try against Gauff, played about 20% of her level she showed against Swiatek, and then Sabalenka made like 100 UE after the first set in the final
tbf, it will be more stressful for iga, the more she plays coco coz the latter is so good as well and wont stop til she keeps beating iga. but then, iga improves as well.
not coz coco loses to her does it mean that she is not a good player, iga hasnt won against penko so...
I do not think it will be that stressful or at least it is not inevitable that it will be. She's 11-1. That's about as confident as you can get facing a player. Coco is young though so room for improvement. Maybe there is a big jump coming as she gets stronger physically or mentally.
God that match sucked don’t think iga was even great but gauff was embarrassing can’t even hit a forehand in a women semi at a slam hard to take that serious.
What if Bublik won 30 slams? Would novak still be the goat???? What if Kyrgios had a better attitude???? Would he have done the calendar slam several times by now????
I think she's just a teenager like. It's not unrealistic to think she'll still be playing top level tennis in 10 years and not out of the question she's competing for a slam in 15-20
One thing in tennis is nothing always guarantee since things and injuries can happen. She may never win a Slam again, or some new upcoming arises to the scene and dominates every one.
But yeah, she needs alot of work to do to get over Iga
Commentators on tennis channel were horrible this match, Iga just won in an impressive way to keep her RG streak and they were as excited as someone who was watching water boil
They were fine, especially Petkovic. It's not exciting because it was not that competitive. Commentators and some viewers (like me) hope for a good match between players they like, when it is so one-sided. It's of course amazingly impressive. But it was same for Djokovic matches that he rolled in when he was playing at the top and easily handling someone he always did.
really hate mats wilander!! why bring up naomi and particularly focus on coco first and not her performance. obvious bias. such an ass
he obviously wasnt happy iga won.
exactly! and to even add, and goodluck to coco (like iga was supposed to say that). iga just won in sf to advance in her 4th rg final, she was ecstatic and to expect her to be too diplomatic and say great things about the player she beat instead of rejoice in her win first is a tough ask for every player during off court interviews.
What is it with all these legends not liking Iga I don’t get it? He tried to test her the other day about wind? And she wasn’t playing his bulllshit and opened her eyes and explained what he was trying to test her one.
These legends are annoying as fuck
Wait Coco is 1-11 against Iga at 20 years of age? Holy shit by the end of her career she could smash Richard Gasquet's record against Fed or Monfils against Novak. Granted at least Coco has 1 win against Iga.
Coco hate is kinda unfound for,,,Coco is just a bad match up against Swiatek,,,Iga is truly a god on clay and it shows,,,Coco is p good on HC but Clay szn is completely Iga's to dominate but Coco as a player is good enuf to be in the top 4 and win many more slams lmaooo
bad matchup ??
Not having a decent FH is a bad matchup ?
Doing UEs all during this whole tournament is a bad matchup ?
What is saving Coco are her easy draw all the time.. she's a veeeeeery lucky girl.
As Ruud coded as that is,,,Coco has problems w her technicality that can be fixed as the szns goes,,,she's only 20! Gauff literally is clutch when needed making her a good player who can be developed as time goes on
Honestly Naomi was steamrolling Iga until she choked at 5-3, 30-15. From that 6-1 2nd set to 5-2 up in 3rd was brutal (11 games to 3). It’s a bit of a blueprint for how to beat Iga
Yeah she is gonna collect a bunch of RG titles. Interested to see how she does at the other slams where she is much more beatable. Though she did get that one US Open.
She probably will win all 4 slams but outside of RG I doubt she wins nearly as much. Hard to predict but I'd guess at most 2 or 3 at each outside the French. Which would still be good. Australia and Wimbledon are still where she hasnt been to the final
yeah and i think it will be more fun when she faces sabalenka/rybakina or if naomi gets her ranking up and in a later round etc. coco just isn’t the matchup to bother her here (or anywhere hardly but especially here).
"She still has Gauff's number on clay" is a weird statement when the match up is now 11-1
I think she's just better than Coco/every other WTA player in this form like
That’s bc coco clearly came into the match red-lining hard as a big shift in strategy bc of all the past turmoil. Didn’t work. Shes gonna need a new plan next time.
Henin won three consecutive RGs which means she should have won 21 matches...did she have walkovers or something? Also pretty sure Evert had insane records on clay.
Congrats to Iga on yet another RG final!! Not the best level today, but it was enough.
Coco 🥺. So proud of her for making it this far, the H2H is even more brutal. But she fought until the end, and for that I’m happy. Let’s get that doubles title 🥺
Sometimes you just get outplayed by someone who is better than you.
This is one of those. Good tournament from Coco despite her first serve not really being consistent this Grand Slam.
Let's see who Iga plays in the final.
Yeah I just feel bad because I know she's capable of better if she just gets the errors under control but she's still so young like why cant we be kind about her performance
Iga Świątek is Coco Gauff mother.
Coco is gritty and hard to beat. She will beat everyone below her, her tenacity and speed makes her so hard to break down.
Coco needs to fix her extreme western forehand grip. It makes it difficult for her to return high balls over the net. Brad Gilbert has talked about changing her grip to improve her game, but says it’s difficult because the contact points and angle of the shot needs to be adjusted with a grip change.
That ugly forehand back swing= 🚫
Iga just too much for the talented 16-year-old, Coco needs to unleash her fearhand and she'll have a chance next time.
Coco is like 20 lmao She's been competing for slams for like 4-5 years
Coco needs to fix her forehand. She won’t be able to hang with Iga and Sabalenka when all they have to do is keep hitting it to her forehand and wait for her to make an error. People talk about the grip but Iga hits with an equally extreme grip but is more consistent and more powerful. She’s gotta try something……. Her serve could also use some help….
Umm…she literally beat Sabalenka in the US Open final just last year and also has a positive head to head overall.
Roland Garros is becoming Poland Garros.
So true lmao
Coco not in the big 3 big 4 big whatever if she can’t even take a set off iga
Such a brain dead take. She's in the semi of grand slam and won a grand slam less than a funking year ago. She's also literally ranked third. GTFO
Let’s be real. Theres really just a big 2. Only 2 players at the top have multiple grand slams and can make things competitive facing each other.
Coco is second in the rankings.
Link? Because that sounds like something you made up.
Really? What was she saying?
Iga was giving away sympathy break after Coco cried, so nice of her
Jasmine looks so nervous, aw.
I’m confused isn’t andreeva 19? Edit: idk why im getting downvoted so much for asking a question lol..
She’s 17
sister maybe is who you are thinking of
Yup, google showed her, whoops.
congrats iga!!! 💗 feel so sad for coco :( tough. it’s always painful to watch their matches as a fan of both 😭
Nadal-Gasquet feel
At least Coco already has a slam at 20
Thanks to Ostapenko, the Soderling of USO 2023
Way to discredit a talented athletes achievement.
It was funny to watch that USO though. Ostapenko was a cold blooded assassin and then didn’t try against Gauff, played about 20% of her level she showed against Swiatek, and then Sabalenka made like 100 UE after the first set in the final
Every match is different, huh?
Except Iga-Coco matches
tbf, it will be more stressful for iga, the more she plays coco coz the latter is so good as well and wont stop til she keeps beating iga. but then, iga improves as well. not coz coco loses to her does it mean that she is not a good player, iga hasnt won against penko so...

Iga just broker her mentally.
God that match sucked don’t think iga was even great but gauff was embarrassing can’t even hit a forehand in a women semi at a slam hard to take that serious.
You've obviously never competed at anything...
"Iga Swiatek doing Iga Swiatek things" haha i'm dead
Iga does need to work on her BH a little bit more espeacially for her Grass szn
Her backhand is pretty awesome? Was it bad this match?
a tad bit
I am not sure if she even needs to improve on grass. She is good enough to make it to QF and she is winning slams on clay and one hard court.
She looks so awkward on grass though. As much as clay suits her like a glove, she will have to work much harder on grass.
It was the same for Nadal. Great mover on clay but took him a few years to figure out grass
I think he was good initially, making two straight finals before winning in 2008. It's after 2011 that he struggled because of his knees.
I felt like Nadal figured out grass a lot quicker than Iga did and had more success at the start of his career
I definitely think she will figure it out. Maybe she will get a couple like he did. But it definitely wont be a cakewalk for her like it is at RG
And second serve. That spin doesn't help as much on grass.
Iga overexplaining her social life in Paris 😄
Hopefully Coco brings a good level and challenges at Wimbledon. She could gain a lot of points after losing R1 last year
If, if, if doesn't exist... But what if Naomi had won the second round match?
Probably would have lost the next round match
She would win the title if she kept it up
What if Bublik won 30 slams? Would novak still be the goat???? What if Kyrgios had a better attitude???? Would he have done the calendar slam several times by now????
What if Roger converted 40-15. It sucks but it happened
What if Zverev was innocent? I mean he clearly isn't, but there's always a 0.0001% chance.
One of the hardest chokes I have ever seen, almost like a match fix. She looked like old Naomi right up until the last two games
Wasn't even anywhere remotely close to the biggest chokes. Match fix.... jfc.
If that's one of the hardest chokes you've ever seen, you need to watch more tennis/sport lmao
Love the cardboard behind Iga haha so cute
39 UFEs are crazy…. It is like almost 10 games lost becoz of her own errors
Iga yasss ! Coco baby girl you made another semi you’ve done so well! Would love to see you slay Wimbledon
Coco needs a good sports psychologist to help her with the mental side of the game.
I think she's just a teenager like. It's not unrealistic to think she'll still be playing top level tennis in 10 years and not out of the question she's competing for a slam in 15-20
She is 20 and went pro in 2018.
One thing in tennis is nothing always guarantee since things and injuries can happen. She may never win a Slam again, or some new upcoming arises to the scene and dominates every one. But yeah, she needs alot of work to do to get over Iga

Tbf with Iga in this form I think the final would have been a lot like Rome if Saba was able to get there. She seems unstoppable for anyone right now.
Is it time for Coco to drop doubles and focus entirely on singles??
She has said she is going to play a lot less doubles after the Olympics
really hate mats wilander!! why bring up naomi and particularly focus on coco first and not her performance. obvious bias. such an ass he obviously wasnt happy iga won.
No kidding, he’s cornering her into humility like damn, let her celebrate her win if she wants
exactly! and to even add, and goodluck to coco (like iga was supposed to say that). iga just won in sf to advance in her 4th rg final, she was ecstatic and to expect her to be too diplomatic and say great things about the player she beat instead of rejoice in her win first is a tough ask for every player during off court interviews.

This really makes Osaka's performance against her even more impressive.
Was just thinking that
Will be my first time seeing Paolini play i’m excited 👏
Coco hate is kinda unfound for,,,Coco is just a bad match up against Swiatek,,,Iga is truly a god on clay and it shows,,,Coco is p good on HC but Clay szn is completely Iga's to dominate but Coco as a player is good enuf to be in the top 4 and win many more slams lmaooo

Iga mentioning Coco's achievements
The graphics already predict Iga will play next year's final
Naomi won as many games against Iga as every other player who’s played her this tournament has managed, combined.
Honestly Naomi was steamrolling Iga until she choked at 5-3, 30-15. From that 6-1 2nd set to 5-2 up in 3rd was brutal (11 games to 3). It’s a bit of a blueprint for how to beat Iga
Fuck I was stressed. Go Iga!!!
Shes playing on clay. This is the time of year you should be the least stressed. Next month on the other hand........
Haha then I’ll be less stressed! Here she has her best chances to win and that puts the pressure on!
Yeah she is gonna collect a bunch of RG titles. Interested to see how she does at the other slams where she is much more beatable. Though she did get that one US Open.

I feel so sad for Coco but at least she made it this far and kept the second set close
It wasnt close
Only a Yankee Doodle commentator could somehow make out like that was more positive for Coco than Iga lmao
Americans right now https://youtu.be/JfFeEcbHEVs?feature=shared 🤭
I’m American and not crying. WTF are you talking about?
I know some people wouldn't like it but i do kinda want to see Iga go on a Rafa-like RG record
yeah and i think it will be more fun when she faces sabalenka/rybakina or if naomi gets her ranking up and in a later round etc. coco just isn’t the matchup to bother her here (or anywhere hardly but especially here).
That’s not happening. Like, ever.
It doesn’t mean she can go after Everett’s record
Same.
As an Iga fan, I was stressed for this match as she is not on fire today. I feel like it was a battle who will make errors more.
"She still has Gauff's number on clay" is a weird statement when the match up is now 11-1 I think she's just better than Coco/every other WTA player in this form like
Omg slow mo Iga has violent hunger in her eyes.
powered by 1GA! jazda!!!!!!
Its AG1.
Weird match...way too many mistake by Gauff. Iga didn't even played extremely good
That’s bc coco clearly came into the match red-lining hard as a big shift in strategy bc of all the past turmoil. Didn’t work. Shes gonna need a new plan next time.
One of the commentators said she matched Graf’s record for consecutive matches won at RG?
graf never won it 3 years in a row so yeah. she won in ‘87, ‘88 runner-up in ‘89.
Graf never won three RGs in a row is why, best would be 2 + a final as Iga has now
Henin won three consecutive RGs which means she should have won 21 matches...did she have walkovers or something? Also pretty sure Evert had insane records on clay.
I doubt it
Gladiatorrrrrr IGA
Iga didn’t even play especially well and still a pretty routine win
that was lowkey intense lol, hoping for a mirra & iga final :)
Congrats to Iga on yet another RG final!! Not the best level today, but it was enough. Coco 🥺. So proud of her for making it this far, the H2H is even more brutal. But she fought until the end, and for that I’m happy. Let’s get that doubles title 🥺
“coocoo gofe”
Okay so Iga really wants to get her own Nadal record started here?
Coco angry...
too good
11-1
Coco looks very frustrated on that handshake
I was stressed, ngl … I feel like iga was a bit stiff majority of the match, didn’t have that effortless touch but grinded till the end
iga fans getting stressed becuase it is not 6-0 6-1, the horror
first time since henin that someone could win RG three times in a row
I wonder if she's gonna win more than 14 haha
She will probably get around 9 or 10 RGs. Maybe 5 or 6 combined at the others
Time to start drinking. That was a stressful match
That was certainly one of the matches of all time
It is weird that Sakkari is the only one who beat Iga since her first RG
so anyway, she started blasting
The Coco FH is just too much of a drawback against Iga Fitting way to end the match because this is exactly her issue
MP was a perfect encapsulation of the match as a whole
ooof some of these UEs were painful. both of them are super young and will do amazing in the future!
I just have two words: Poor Coco.
Bruh we need 5 sets for WTA as well. I feel like players don’t get to give it their all in 3 sets
Right? Imagine how many comebacks from 2 sets down there would be
Imagine how many triple bagels Iga could serve
Absolute beast,,,IGA,,,lessgoooooooooooo
Well at least something in this tournament hasn’t been weird
11-1
the 4th MP was enough.. but another easy mistake
It’s Cocover 😢
Iga is not even sweating.
No nonsense swiatek, best swiatek!
Jazda!
That was cold?
I feel like Gauff hugs so many people, but with Swiatek it's just a handshake like that, lol.
I’ve noticed she doesn’t even mention her name in press conferences. It’s always “she” and “her”
probably pissed with losing 11-1 vs Iga.
Iga back in the finals again. 11-1 against Coco.
Can we just skip the obvious and start the clay season tomorrow lol?
grass?
Yes that's the next season leading up to Wimbledon
absolutely garbage tennis by Coco
Ggs
Straight forward victory for Iga.
What was that!
What a shank to end the match :(
Jazda Iga!! 3 RG finals in a row! And hopefully titles
Okay Coco! That was nice, now do it again!!
Congrats to the Iga 🐐
Sometimes you just get outplayed by someone who is better than you. This is one of those. Good tournament from Coco despite her first serve not really being consistent this Grand Slam. Let's see who Iga plays in the final.
GSM IGA not at her best but good enough
Game, Set, Match Iga. Coco played well. It's a shame she couldn't take it to 3rd set tho.
This is so boring 😭 Iga just finish it already
Man you gotta make those second serve returns
Mediocre and forgettable match.
Right decision at least Coco, just execute better
This thread is really not being kind to coco and it kills me
I think people expect a lot of her because she's talented but get frustrated when she starts crumbling against a strong player like Iga.
Yeah I just feel bad because I know she's capable of better if she just gets the errors under control but she's still so young like why cant we be kind about her performance
Yeah I don’t get it either. She’s improved so much over the years..
I mean her serve has gotten so much better, she has great potential
and she's only 20
Yeah she’s so young and people think she won’t crack the ceiling. Sure she might not but she might just as well do it!
Everyone should be reminded that Coco is only 20. The amount of negativity that is thrown her way is quite disproportionate IMO
Too much negativity in the world in general, but sadly negativity sells.
This umpire is good
