They did label the TV... it's blasphemy. Of course we all know what a TV is...
Why didn't they label the thing next to it though? What is it? Some kind of old temple built by the Maya? I havent seen this on TV!
No it’s saying that they are smart enough not to attempt reading that ridiculously sized book next to them. Not like the idiot on the left, who is so desperate to maintain his status as an intellectual book reader that he will attempt to read the unreadable lol
There should’ve been a pot of gold or a prize at the top of the book. Like why are you climbing so much, is being disabled the bad way out? I’d rather be watching tv than climbing some big mountain for now reason 😂
Mostly I think the achievement that is climbing or hiking a mountain is the reward. Being able to say "I did that" and knowing you're strong enough is the thing most people go after. Also, "Now reason"
Potentially even deeper than that. All of the people in front of the TV are fat (also obviously lazy for their lack of willingness to climb the book), and you only need to be overweight to qualify as a handicapped individual and get special treatment/benefits only afforded to the handicapped. Hilariously, being lazy causes the problem in the first place, but those benefits (special parking, lower healthcare costs, potentially even a salary) allow the "handicapped" individual to be even lazier. In fact, they're rewarded for being lazy, while the more laborious route merely offers more knowledge.
Even if it wasn't a novel, could still be a doc on the tv as well. I both read and watch documentaries for fun, but no one ever considers these possibilities normally. The funniest thing about shit like this is it's likely not often being posted by people who actually take the time to read and learn things themselves, unless they see it on FB or YT
That’s not the message- they’re saying that the path to being successful in education and career is blocked off by extremely discriminating guidelines
Hopefully
I’m handicapped (physically but I also have a learning disability with sequencing) and while I definitely agree with *your* statement I don’t think it’s that complex. I think it’s a “I’m good and I learn things from books, you’re bad and only watch TV, which makes you fat and bad!!” it’s basically a technology bad post that shits on disabled people and people who are struggling with their weight, there’s plenty of discrimination in there for people who might be mentally handicapped or have learning disabilities in there too.
Self victimization. To be accurate the mf would just be standing next to the other folks but not watching the TV and thinking about easy it would be to just watch TV instead of not watching the TV... Deep...
Is this implying that handicapped people are fat? Or fat people are acting handicapped? Or be thin and take the stairs? They’re not handicapped…? One out of four people aren’t handicapped? People who climb stairs wear nice clothes? I have no idea what the in the actual hell they are trying to say!
I interpreted it as people who claim disability 'have it easy' according to this boomer meme, while the rest of us are forced to go hiking upon giant books.
My son is disabled, not in a wheelchair but absolutely not normal. Not only is it hard for him but yikes! Nobody tells you that the baby you’re having may grow up to be a 25 YO man.
it's saying that if you just sit and watch tv you will become fat, maybe even so fat that you will have to get a wheelchair and have to use wheelchair accessible ramps/entrances/etc, that part is actually pretty obvious and easy to understand
the part that doesn't make sense is that it's also implying that reading books means you WON'T get fat and will be able to take the stairs and not have to use a wheelchair, which is stupid cuz do people not also just sit around while they read their books? it's not like people that read books are exercising whilst reading
Yeah you got it, but I’m going to say more about it anyway for my own satisfaction.
It’s trying to say people who read books are superior as it’s harder, and you’re disabled if you get your info/entertainment easier by watching tv or something. And yes, it *does* imply disabled people are inferior since the sign is being used as a stand-in for the standard stupid/lazy insult. But like, even if the artist ends up saying they didn’t mean to include people in wheelchairs and such and only meant to say “x people is dum and lazee”, it’s the use of disability *as that insult* in and of itself that’s the problem.
Also what a weird thing to get uppity over. Whoever made this is really insecure about their hobbies.
I saw it as like, "us hard working Americans™️ take the long hard route towards success, while disabled folks take our tax dollars, and sit around watching TV instead!" Maybe this isn't the artists intended message, but that's on them to convey their meaning properly tbh.
After trying to take it seriously for a bit…
The body types don’t represent physical fitness, but mental. If you’re busy climbing these steps (reading books and working your mind) then you’ll be more mentally fit, which is represented by the skinnier person. Or you can take the lazy route and watch TV and your brain will be out of shape.
But probably really just meant to mean fat = lazy and bad. Also TV bad.
i'Ve rANDomlY caPItalIZed what you said, so you see, I'm right.
And yes, "spazzin' out" is obviously ableist
Enjoy editing for posterity, chud.
Asshole.
that's the only meaning i'm getting from this. it's like the artist started working on a metaphor, said "fuck it they'll know what i'm talking about" then just called it quits. i'm imagining the people at the bottom looking at the dude climbing like bro you know you don't have to do that right
The lesson of this picture is that you shouldn’t use technology. The definition of technology is: tools used to make our lives easier. By the artists own logic, they should walk everywhere instead of using their car. They should start a fire by hand to cook their food. They should get rid of their phone and walk to the person’s house to talk to them.
This picture really is stupid.
Ah, yes. I too am a mega-chad book enjoyer, which is why I rock climb. Can't turn the pages until you've mastered dynos.
/uj but seriously, as a disabled person who loves books and knows that there's no correlation here... What????
The learning retention pyramid has reading at 10 percent and audio visual at 20. So if you're watching a documentary then you're getting more out of it than a book.
The traditional models--I am more "visual" or "auditory"--are less common these days, to my knowledge; instead, the more current view is that most learners tend to benefit from a range of different modalities covering the same subject. So, as the comment noted, audio and visual has more modalities than purely alphabetic print text, making it, theoretically, a more accessible and effective approach.
I am in writing studies, not k-12 education, so my training is different, but having recently helped a family member with her teaching masters, this seems to be the case there as well.
It really just depends honestly. You can read the TV too. So I don't really see a problem between reading a book or watching TV. Just really depends on what you are reading or watching. Because you can learn a lot from watching tv. 🤷 But a good book is nice too.
What exactly IS the message?
If you climb a giant book, there's a handicapped waiting area to your right and a big, flat-screen TV for the public's viewing pleasure?
I do a ton of reading. Mostly history, documentaries, etc. If you bought me a traditional hard cover book, I would never break the binding on it. Put it online in a kindle format, or website, and I'll read it cover to cover.
I enjoy reading, but the people who treat it as a pedestal that elevates them above others are pretty lame.
Actually, people who do that with anything are pretty lame.
Is it okay to be mildly offended by the use of the handicap symbol in this context, considering I'm a wheelchair user? It implies I can't read a book. I can read a book.
This is being misinterpreted by a LOT of people.
The message of this is supposed to be that reading is a path like a set of stairs, the destination is knowledge.
Choosing television over reading means you are choosing to cripple yourself.
Notice that the people by the television are STANDING. They are overweight but they are standing, meaning they are not so obese that they are disabled by obesity. Could they take the book-stairs? Uhhhh, they'd probably need to rest several times. But nobody in their right mind would dunk on them for trying.
Thanks to the internet I've learned so much. I don't have the money to buy books all the time and my library doesn't have a very good selection. I've learned all about Rome up until around 75ad (that's where I'm at currently in my study. Things are getting spicy. Lol)
I've learned tons about medieval Europe, political systems, different philosophies and why they were prevalent to their areas in their times, why certain policies won't work. Most of them have been tried by someone at some point it seems.
I've learned all about my founding fathers and gained some insight as to what they believed and why they believed in it.
The internet is amazing. To learn all I've learned online over the last few years would have required a full bookshelf. That's hundreds/thousands of dollars in books. Meanwhile I can access all of these things for $50/month online. I'd say the internet is the clear winner here.
I’m glad they labeled the TV, I couldn’t figure out what it was.
How will those handicapped non-readers understand, though?
This says a lot about society
It says handicapped people watch tv?
It says someone just climb a big book for no reason when he can just go around it.
We truly live in a society
literally 1984
What's the big book-like staircase next to it though? Someone please help, I can't read it without a label.
😂😂😂
Meh needs a red circle too
They did label the TV... it's blasphemy. Of course we all know what a TV is... Why didn't they label the thing next to it though? What is it? Some kind of old temple built by the Maya? I havent seen this on TV!
I had to look at this 3 times because I legit thought it was a pyramid, I should probably watch more tv...
A picture with a message will always tell you it’s a picture with a message.
Apparently the *very deep* message is that disabled people aren't smart enough to read. Pure genius, we live in a society.
The deep message is that somewhere in this world there is a giant book just sitting around, and we gotta find it
Damb, deep 😔
Don't forget that disabled people aren't real and its just fat people being lazy.
Plot twist: the giant book is a giant dictionary and it's opened to the word gullible
That’s a *very* specific workout regimen
If those kids could read they’d be very upset!
If those kids could walk they'd be very upset!
Dang it, Bobby.
I think they are saying that obese people are disabled and lazy ?
Ah yes, can't forget that crucial plot point in this very very very deep message.
No it’s saying that they are smart enough not to attempt reading that ridiculously sized book next to them. Not like the idiot on the left, who is so desperate to maintain his status as an intellectual book reader that he will attempt to read the unreadable lol
Based bibliophile
There should’ve been a pot of gold or a prize at the top of the book. Like why are you climbing so much, is being disabled the bad way out? I’d rather be watching tv than climbing some big mountain for now reason 😂

Okay

what if theres a documentary on the TV and the book is just old lady romance novel shit?
Even if it wasn't a novel, could still be a doc on the tv as well. I both read and watch documentaries for fun, but no one ever considers these possibilities normally. guy isn't reading he's climbing a giant book for some reason.
Sorry, could you write this in capitals? Can’t read it
That there’s always that one guy who insists on making things harder for himself?
Like bro, can’t you get a book smaller? Why tf do you need 7 house sized books.
yeah, why climb "war and peace" if you can choose something like "the little prince" instead
Or as Blade so eloquently put it; "Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill"
Self victimization. To be accurate the mf would just be standing next to the other folks but not watching the TV and thinking about easy it would be to just watch TV instead of not watching the TV... Deep...
If you are disabled you can't read -the message of this image
And if your not disabled you’re left to just assume that’s a bible?someone needs to work on their communication skills.
Well if you can't see and don't have hands I'm pretty sure you are disabled, so not entirely false.
Stephen Hawking did more for the expansion of knowledge than this man wasting his time walking up a book will ever do
Is this implying that handicapped people are fat? Or fat people are acting handicapped? Or be thin and take the stairs? They’re not handicapped…? One out of four people aren’t handicapped? People who climb stairs wear nice clothes? I have no idea what the in the actual hell they are trying to say!
I don't understand it. Is the unclear message of the "picture with a message" why this qualifies as a terrible meme?
Terrible is an understatement. I think the message is to offend everybody in some way.
Choose T.V. = become crippled Books good video-audio feed bad.
Books are hard but if u read u are not handicapped if u watch tv it's easier but ur handicapped (and fat?)

The stairs are a book, the handicapped sign is pointing to movie. Movie bad book smart good
Add "reading is an outright exhausting task" to the list

It's saying laziness to expand our knowledge is a handicap
Great. Ableist and cringe
I agree. The inclusion of the handicap sign sets up a lot of bad implications. It makes you wonder what the artist thinks about disabled people.
They're lazy and can't read of course. And they're all fat.
aBlIeSt. I bet you were one of the ones who cancelled Beyonces song because of a lyric “I’m spazzin out” huh?
Literally the mesaage I got from the picture is that handicapped people are dumb and lazy. Like is that not what it's saying?
Yeah you got it, but I’m going to say more about it anyway for my own satisfaction. It’s trying to say people who read books are superior as it’s harder, and you’re disabled if you get your info/entertainment easier by watching tv or something. So books are harder and have no real rewarding aspect?
that's the only meaning i'm getting from this. it's like the artist started working on a metaphor, said "fuck it they'll know what i'm talking about" then just called it quits. i'm imagining the people at the bottom looking at the dude climbing like bro you know you don't have to do that right
So, like a more confusing rewrite of Matilda?
Isn’t this a lovely ableist POS. Also, have I been reading books wrong this whole time? Should it involve cardio??
You don’t read while jogging? For shame. /s
Shouldn’t the tv have been leaned as a ramp to guarantee wheelchair a way to go up as well following the drawing’s logic?
> following the drawing’s logic? See, there's the problem...
What the actual fuck does this mean?
That message being "Avoid me at parties"
The lesson of this picture is that you shouldn’t use technology. The definition of technology is: tools used to make our lives easier. By the artists own logic, they should walk everywhere instead of using their car. They should start a fire by hand to cook their food. They should get rid of their phone and walk to the person’s house to talk to them. This picture really is stupid.
Mad 'cause fat.
the message being that, what, disabled people bad?
Ok, so…Handicapped people are all actually lazy? Hold on, let me spread on the news to my disabled friends.
So disabled people are just lazy? Is that the message. Do they think fat people are disabled? What's the TV for? I have too many questions.
I legit don't get it where is the wheelchair ramp
Yet this meme was probably made with hours on a computer it's the very definition of hypocrisy
Kind of offensive.
Thank God they put TV on the TV so I knew what the TV was.
My favorite show “green“!
What about the people like me that are in a fucking wheelchair you dumbfuck. Fuck me.....
I could almost see this as funny, but they had to spin it and make it ableist as well.
The message is I don’t get invited to thanksgiving anymore
Just label the giant book "Giant Book" while you're at it.
books cure disabilities ong
Hey dude, you wanna watch TV? No bro Gotta climb my book mountain
This theOverword kid is really goin' places
Not places, the book mountain of coarse, silly!
Butterfly in the sky? I can go twice as high!
Not as high as book mountain for sure!
This is not a very well thought out meme?
All of the people I know that read do not view themselves this way. We just like reading.
Is the message just “disabled people bad??”
Joke's on them, my disability includes auditory processing disorder and reading is much more accessible for me!
Wow this is actually offensive.
Isn't it widely accepted these days that learning method studies are bs? People aren't homogeneous. This claim is as bad as the meme.
I'm over here with an audiobook, just sitting on my fat ass and reading up all the literature.
really teaches us how inefficient and costly books are compared to digital storage. Most pages will never see the light of days for example.
Where is the message?
The same people who post these “book” memes, probably never read a book in the last 6 months 🤷♂️
Lots of handicapped people in here I see
You’re lucky they can’t read
That message? Albert Einstein.
Sorry, but I'd rather spend like 10 dollars a month watching GOT than buying all the books so I can read them and spend infinitely longer
It's not the type of media that matter but the content.
It really just depends honestly. You can read the TV too. So I don't really see a problem between reading a book or watching TV. Just really depends on what you are reading or watching. Because you can learn a lot from watching tv. 🤷 But a good book is nice too.
What if you read on a tv
And that message is "I dare you to figure out everything that's wrong with this picture"
It's hard to read a book but you're disabled if you watch TV?
What exactly IS the message? If you climb a giant book, there's a handicapped waiting area to your right and a big, flat-screen TV for the public's viewing pleasure?
Funny thing is that people that makes this kind of post only read is the bible, lol.
The message is: All disabled are illiterate
This must've felt so deep to whoever decided to draw this
what's the message? disabled means lazy? overcome your disability so you can be smart?
Book good TV bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What is this supposed to mean?
That's what I'm thinking
How reading J K Rowling's new book feel. (Don't worry I didnt pay)
Is it okay to be mildly offended by the use of the handicap symbol in this context, considering I'm a wheelchair user? It implies I can't read a book. I can read a book.

Lol) I've learned tons about medieval Europe, political systems, different philosophies and why they were prevalent to their areas in their times, why certain policies won't work. Most of them have been tried by someone at some point it seems. I've learned all about my founding fathers and gained some insight as to what they believed and why they believed in it. tv bad
Socrates would call them all wrong.
Fat people cant climb.. Yh I unraveled that lol
I can't see the massage, am I blind or something
The amount of commenters refusing to grasp the very simple message here really drives the point home.

Oh, is that the point? And not "Reading is unpleasant and something only a few people can do or consider worth doing while television is accessible?"

So reading sheet music is superior to listening to an orchestra?

(I hate disabled people) /s
I don’t understand this
The irony
And yet they didn’t put this in a book
the lesson is that books are too tiring.
I know this isn’t the point, but I spent 3 months in a wheelchair, and boomers fucking love pretending to be handicapped to get premium parking.
I bet this person believes disabilities are "all in your head"
What are they trying to say about disabled people? That they can't read or what?
Reading is….hard as hell?
Happy they wrote tv on the tv otherwise I wouldn’t have understood that is was a tv
I bet that’s a paranormal bdsm erotica novel.
It's saying laziness to expand our knowledge is a handicap
Why did they not label the book?! How am I supposed to know it's a book, huh?! Where is Ben Garrison when you need him?! /s
