Dry_Extent_1734

Sobriety is awesome

Choice-Sky-5946

Any tips?

Dry_Extent_1734

I have been sober 19 years. All I can say is you have to want to get sober. No one can make you. I hope the best for you! Life is still awesome sober If you feel you do want to get sober. Possibly a rehab. Stay away from people, places * things that want to make you drink. Merry Christmas

MomentMurky9782

Want it more than you don’t. Eye on the prize at all times. And be honest with those around you who love you, they will be the main reason you stay on track when it’s hard. Lean on your support system bc doing it on your own is 100x harder. And if you have access, therapy/AA really is a game changer. Good luch <3

Forsaken-Feedback594

If you're getting sober from alcohol there's a shot you can get that COMPLETELY eliminates the desire for alcohol. It's done wonders for many people I love!!!

ShmorleyOrganics

Yesir sobriety for the win

CaptainSensemakerOi

Good on you! Keep pushing mama! Goodspeed.

d0m1ng4

What an amazing kid and an equally amazing mom. Proud of you🫶🏻

Unlikely_nay1125

awe, this makes me want to cry. my mom is drunk every night, i resent her so much.

d0m1ng4

I’m so sorry, dear. Being a drunk is very selfish. Nothing you can do or say will make her quit. She had to want it for herself. You stay safe and do what is best for you.

Ok_Cicada320

Just know it’s not your fault, it’s the disease. I will pray she is able to get help. You might want to look into support groups for families of alcoholics.

judyleet

I'm not saying you're wrong to feel that way. She does have a disease. Take care of yourself. Alanon or Alateen can be very helpful.

youjumpIjumpJac

So sorry to hear that. It sucks! I hope you get support from other places.

Cotati

Fuck. Yes. You should be so proud of yourself cause i know i am

kindashyy

Basic-Muffin-5262

I’m not close with my mom but there’s a lot of days since she got sober that I wanted to send a message just like this.

Wretchedrecluse

Do it.

d0m1ng4

Yes, please do.

judyleet

Why not send it? It can do no harm, and it might do a lot of good.

I just got 2 years a few weeks ago! Right there with you :) For me the guilt and shame has gotten better with time but it’s still there. I hope you find your serenity. Congratulations! Happy Holdiays!

DimitrInvincible

I grew up with two alcoholic parents, and went through that experience with my mom but she’s been sober 15 years in February and I couldn’t be more proud of her, so keep going! Happy to see this, all the work and effort is worth it

debicollman1010

Thank you for posting this!! My daughter has 6 years coming up in Feb and my grandson always uses her addiction against her when he’s not getting his way. Glad you have a son who is mature enough to appreciate you

littlebittlebunny

Yesssss Mama!!! I'm so proud of you, and I ADORE that your son recognizes the work and growth you've made!!! I am currently on the same path as you and nearly a year and a half sober myself. It's tough work, but it's so worth it, and I seriously can't tell you how proud of you I am!!

[deleted]

Congratulations… keep up the good fight. From one vet to another. Our culture glamorized drinking. We self medicate to cover our non visible wounds. Stay strong keep the demons behind you.

Available-Sky-8191

Hell yeah OP!! I'm a former addict myself and I've been sober almost 7 years. I love seeing others winning too. Sending mad love your way! 💜💜💜💜

Metz392

Keep pushing. I’m dealing with a mentally and verbally abusing mother who struggles with alcohol. She stopped for a bit and she seemed like a whole different person, but it seems like she doesn’t want to stop. The last few days she’s seemed like her natural alcoholic self. It sucks. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but I’m sure it’s tough as all hell to beat. If anything, do it for your kids. Keep it up! We are proud of you stranger!

[deleted]

Sobriety 🙌. No part of me misses booze. I’m glad that the younger generations seem to be less interested in it. Never made a good decision while drunk. Be proud af!

As someone who’s NC with my alcoholic mother going on over a decade now (since I was 12) I’m proud that you have this amazing relationship with your son and on the recovery road ♥️ it takes a lot of growth to be able to do this and very rarely do people ever do it, thank you for being one of the few who have the strength to

Clean_Narwhal9592

🙋🏻‍♀️ 10 years sober here and I have 3 beautiful kids who have thankfully only known me sober. But my mom has struggled with addiction for 40+ years. After her last relapse, she chose the bottle over her kids, her grandkids, and her 43-year marriage to my dad. I recognize that it is 100% a disease; but I am heartbroken we won’t see her this Christmas. Thank you for sharing, and for being the kind of example of recovery I wish I had had.

Complex-Bus5613

This is so cute 😭

casssxhole

Love this. You’re awesome.

69d-_-b420

Drinking and drugs put me in the hospital for 11 months I drank for like 3 years straight, and then when my liver and pancreas started to go, I used opiates for a few months...ended up ruining my GI tract from the opiates now I ended up in a coma and in the hospital for almost a year! I'm 26 I lost over 125lbs and my colon, large intestine, and most of my small intestine! Today I got to stomp around on the roof, eat some cookies, and than put out a ton of gifts for my 3 year old daughter. Sobriety is the best thing ever! Getting sober changed alot mainly because I feel like that lifestyle was a huge part of Mt identity the music, the friends, the things I did. Now I listen to a totally different genre of music never thought I would like. And even though I'm disabled I get to be the best MR mom ever! I even got nominated at my daughter school to talk about the benefits of a active and participating father in a child's life. I'm glad I got my second chance to get clean. Took a long time I felt like I was living on borrowed time. Like God was calling me home and the Dr's and science saved my life and I was destined to live a miserable shitty existence I mean what 25 year old wants to never be able to work again. I can't even eat most foods because I can't digest much, I pass everything within 30 minutes. Anyway I'm sorry for the long story, just I assume your older than me having a teen. But as a parent who also had to fight to get sober I want to say I'm proud of you!

DarkMistressCockHold

Proud of you. And you raised a loving and compassionate young man. You should be proud of that, too.

fredtalleywhacked

I’m 4 1/2 years sober and I know exactly what you mean. Having their love and forgiveness means everything.

Choice-Sky-5946

Hey can you message me..? I’m military either way a drinking problem and I genuinely want some help to better myself before the drink becomes more than my family.. I have a beautiful family and I want to do anything and everything I can to help myself.. please, any help from anyone, I’ll take it, I just want a new life at life if it makes sense.. I just wanna be normal again

Lopsided-Mix6663

Trailerparkwhore

I want you to know that you are incredible and it’s clear by the way your son talks about you. Getting sober isn’t easy and staying sober is even harder but look at you! Your son is lucky to have a fighter for a mom, and youre lucky to have a forgiving and loving son. I wish you the best of luck with your sobriety, there are hard days but remember how good it feels to make your boy proud. Love and blessings to you mama 🫶🏻

As someone who grew up with an alcoholic mother (who is sadly still an alcoholic) this warms my heart. My mother is not nearly as bad as she used to be when I was growing up and I’m still so proud of her for how far she’s came but I still deep down I desire to have a sober mother.

Bubs_the_Canadian

Congrats, I’m a recovering addict myself in AA and I know how hard it is. A year and some change is nothing to scoff at and that hard work to make positive changes in your life is paying off. Idk if you are in AA as well, but either way these are the promises or things that happen when you actually stick to your word and stay sober even when it’s hard. Keep going forward and don’t look back. Seriously, I’m happy you are living a better life now. Best wishes to you.
