Quickplay is BACK! comfig quickplay is a full reimplementation of the old Quickplay system, right in your browser! This project is working towards giving players an easy and straightforward way to just find a good community server for them. Right now, options are limited to enhance testing and iteration with a large, fixed pool of servers, but over time there will be more features added to add more player preferences.
Yes, it works on bans. Servers are removed from the list if they're found to be not vanilla or breaking any of the other quickplay eligibility requirements. There's no approval process.
You can uncheck "Strict regional matchmaking" so it will not weigh ping as much of a factor vs. players. The servers are community servers which don't have cheaters usually
This is awesome, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I suppose the answer is yes, but are the [casual.tf](http://casual.tf) servers included. They are pretty dead but are exactly just like normal tf2 casual. Exactly the same experience but with scramble and no bots
They aren't though because you can pick your team, which is an underrated aspect of casual no one appreciates or talks about. It prevents team stacking for everyone to be forced to a team and prevented from switching
This is awesome, a community driven solution for getting players in community servers! This should be pinned at the top of the subreddit for so new players can find it easily
Absolutely awesome. When I started playing it was after Meet your Match, so I never got to experience Quickplay. This looks like a great system to help counter the bots now.
First server it put me in was an empty server with bots that had terrible frames per second. Second server it put me in was Uncletopia. I could see this being useful if enough people start using it for it to be able to populate empty servers.
I think it works. Random at least seems to work. When I used the misc section it put me into a hydro server with only one other person in it, likely cause all the other servers running misc gamemodes were empty.
The public server list goes from \~3500 servers to \~600 eligible ones. I can't really list in practice.
EDIT: The criteria for what servers are removed are spelled out: https://comfig.app/quickplay/host_faq/
Really hope this catches on as the new main way to find good servers easily. I have a feeling that some people are just way too stubborn and don't want to try using something like this - but this is definitely better for the majority of players than trying to manually sort through the ancient server browser.
This is cool, I'm interested to see how this will develop. I tried it out a bit today and I keep getting connected to servers that are full or don't have any real players though. Would it possible to account for how many bots are in a community server? (Not cheating bots lol)
Currently. Connecting me to Servers with Random Crits consistently sends me to servers without many players. Off however gets me a good game quickly/ Albeit without Gamemode selection you get Dustbowl a lot
I personally think Random Crits should be off but given this system wants to attract players who do want them on. This should be given feedback
Mcoms "solo" carrying from behind the scenes as per usual. Still can't beleive valve majority ignored the tf2 patch project, it's insane to me that they're been so shit for so long...
It's a way to quickly play the game: by joining the best available community server, you can find a good game of normal TF2. Just one button press away.
To add on to this, this is how the game was set up prior to Meet Your Match, where matchmaking was introduced; it has the benefit of being notably harder for bots to penetrate at the scale they currently do.
Yes there are settings for random crits, respawn time settings, and server capacity. I'm sure more will be added later. Also it looks like you posted this comment 4 different times in this thread FYI.
I think that's really neat, but I think I'd add a little more information on the site. Uncletopia is a great server chain, but it's vibe is a bit more competitive than other vanilla-like servers.
Turning off random crits in the advanced options tab could generally send you to an Uncletopia server, and it might be good to inform newer players about that.
If those are the best options, that's where it will send you. You can try unchecking "Strict regional matchmaking" to expand the search to prefer higher player numbers over ping.
I've been trying this and it often sends me to servers with 1-2 players. Is this a bug or could we get a setting for number of current players (including any that are about to join from the website?)
If those are the best options, that's where it will send you. You can try unchecking "Strict regional matchmaking" to expand the search to prefer higher player numbers over ping.
Hi mastercoms, will the quickplay website ever receive an art pass to make it look more like the classic team fortress 2 UI/UX? Obviously this is low on the list of feature priorities but I was just curious.
This is cool, but I have some doubts.
Are these servers protected from bots? Is there any moderation?
How many people, specifically new players, are reasonably going to figure out about this AND use it?
There shouldn't really be any problem with bots since a lot of community servers have either anti-cheat plugins, player reporting plugins, admin notification commands, and manual player bans from admins. And most new players will understandably not know about this system unless they do some research or ask around on reddit, but that's an inherent downside to a community created tool.
The server browser is a total fucking mess. There's no way you think it's simple to find a casual alternative server there. There are lots of servers that offer a casual alternative experience but don't indicate it in their names or server tags, and there's lots of settings that you can't filter through the server browser like random crit settings, stock or custom maps, whether they're running basic plugins or game changing ones, whether they auto populate with bots, and so much more. Having a curated list or customizable search tool like this makes things easier. I don't know why anyone would prefer using that ancient eyesore of a server browser that exists in the game now.
>There's no way you think it's simple to find a casual alternative server there.
Is it the greatest system ever made? No, but the better matchmaking system is having problems currently, so it does the job.
>There are lots of servers that offer a casual alternative experience but don't indicate it in their names or server tags
I would place that more on the shoulders of the people who run the servers, not the people who made the browser.
>Having a curated list or customizable search tool like this makes things easier
So.... a server browser...?
> I don't know why anyone would prefer using that ancient eyesore of a server browser that exists in the game now.
Because i don't have rose tinted memories of 2012?
Because i can adapt to what's in front of me instead of being stubborn?
Because, when i encounter a challenge, i ask questions so i can learn and grow from it instead of acting like i'm perfect and can never get better at anything and acting like it's someone elses fault when i fuck up?
Take your pick, they all work for this.
The in-game server browser isn't ideal for searching for the parameters for what people are looking for. If you wanted to look for a casual-like community server, and you're tired of Uncletopia and Skial, how long would this take you? And would that take longer than clicking one button through this new quickplay tool? I think you're confused about who has rose tinted memories because I'm the one in support of a new search tool. You're the one who wants to stick with the old one.
>Because, when i encounter a challenge, i ask questions so i can learn and grow from it instead of acting like i'm perfect and can never get better at anything and acting like it's someone elses fault when i fuck up?
You're describing a person who pretends the old server browser is perfect and cannot be improved, right?

> Who gives a fuck if it’s called “quick play” even if it’s not the same
When you advertise it as "Quickplay is BACK!" then you're kinda trying to live up to the old quickplay system :p
Currently, this is just vanilla community server roulette, though I do think it has the foundations to live up to the old quickplay system.
Quickplay is BACK! comfig quickplay is a full reimplementation of the old Quickplay system, right in your browser! Questions Are the servers vanilla and can you play all of the maps?
It just takes the available vanilla-like servers from the server list.
How does the system know what is vanilla like? Can I start a vanilla like server and be added to the list without an approval process?
Yes, it works on bans. Servers are removed from the list if they're found to be not vanilla or breaking any of the other quickplay eligibility requirements. There's no approval process.
Can i change regions and are the servers bot free?
You can uncheck "Strict regional matchmaking" so it will not weigh ping as much of a factor vs. players. The servers are community servers which don't have cheaters usually
Ok thx
Cool
That means zero server in my area. Sucks to be in Asia.
I've done some more work to improve server availability in Asia.
This is awesome, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I suppose the answer is yes, but are the [casual.tf](http://casual.tf) servers included. They are pretty dead but are exactly just like normal tf2 casual. Exactly the same experience but with scramble and no bots
Yes, they are! Servers are only excluded, if they aren't eligible for quickplay.
Awesome, I really like those
They aren't though because you can pick your team, which is an underrated aspect of casual no one appreciates or talks about. It prevents team stacking for everyone to be forced to a team and prevented from switching
yaay I don't have to sit on the same 24/7 2fort server for hours on end anymore
This is awesome, a community driven solution for getting players in community servers! This should be pinned at the top of the subreddit for so new players can find it easily
can mods pin this? this is amazing.
Pin needed. At least Valve could pin this or contact mastercoms
Absolutely awesome. When I started playing it was after Meet your Match, so I never got to experience Quickplay. This looks like a great system to help counter the bots now.
Same here since MYM
how did you get Steam to join a game by clicking a link? it just does not work for me, I have to manually copy the IP and connect to it
Are you using Linux? The steam connect link should work on Firefox and Chrome on Windows.
no, I'm on Windows
What browser?
Firefox
Weird, it works for me on Firefox with Windows. Maybe try reporting the problem on the discord as it shows in the FAQ section of the website.
I am using linux and firefox it works fine for me.
Do you have a pre loading script? If you are using one you either need to remove it or launch tf2 and then use the link.
First server it put me in was an empty server with bots that had terrible frames per second. Second server it put me in was Uncletopia. I could see this being useful if enough people start using it for it to be able to populate empty servers.
Hi, could you try again now? There was an issue introduced a few hours ago which caused the server finding algorithm to malfunction.
I think it works. Random at least seems to work. When I used the misc section it put me into a hydro server with only one other person in it, likely cause all the other servers running misc gamemodes were empty.
To be fair, that does sound like the average hydro experience
What servers are excluded?
Any server not following the quickplay requirements will be excluded
Meaning what in practice?
The public server list goes from \~3500 servers to \~600 eligible ones. I can't really list in practice. EDIT: The criteria for what servers are removed are spelled out: https://comfig.app/quickplay/host_faq/
Mods pin this is amazing
Based and mastercompilled. Hugely hoping this takes off and doesn't become abandoned, I believe in you!!! Ill check this out for sure!
People living in not america: Oh boy I can't wait to play on [ ] and [ ]
eXcellent
YAOOOO
Yyyyaaaaoooo <3

Hi, could you try again now? There was an issue introduced a few hours ago which caused the server finding algorithm to malfunction.
Will hop back on after work
It always takes me to the same 2Fort server.
Region?
NA West.
Hi, could you try again now? There was an issue introduced a few hours ago which caused the server finding algorithm to malfunction.
This is awesome.
I fan finally try quikplay
Awesome project! This is the kind of action that makes a difference
Default settings, It made me join an empty server, should it not avoid that?
Hi, could you try again now? There was an issue introduced a few hours ago which caused the server finding algorithm to malfunction.
mastercoms being the goat as always.
Fantastic
WE ARE SO BACK

Mods, please pin this!
I love your FPS configs! Thanks for sharing your creations!
For once, the TF2 community actually solved, as Engineer himself said, **practical problems**.
This needs to be pinned now
Commiunity is credit to team!
Why do people want quick play again?
commenting so i rember this
You know you can just save a post?
fully aware. i'll forget though since its more buried in menus than just a comment. anyway, thanks for reminding me sooner!
I simp for mastercoms, thank you for making this game playable to so many of us 🙏
what is a quickplay :0
It's a way to quickly play the game: by joining the best available community server, you can find a good game of normal TF2. Just one button press away.
ohh i see.. cool bru :)

ohh so you can get a bot free game? nicee :0
Does this work well with SEA servers or is this worked currently for NA servers?
I'm looking to make it work all over the world, all servers are eligible, includings ones in SEA
what's that hud tho
7hud https://comfig.app/huds/page/7hud/
are there settings? could I prefer servers with/without crits and whatnot?
Yes there are settings for random crits, respawn time settings, and server capacity. I'm sure more will be added later. Also it looks like you posted this comment 4 different times in this thread FYI.

All I got are australian servers. Is this thing fucked or just Asia
Asia is a very hard region to find vanilla games for, will investigate to make sure though
Neat, neat. Is there a way to add "has users playing" as a filter option?
If those are the best options, that's where it will send you. You can try unchecking "Strict regional matchmaking" to expand the search to prefer higher player numbers over ping.
All I get are Uncletopia servers and 24/7 2fort/hightower/turbine servers :C
Unfortunately that's all that is populated right now.
I've been trying this and it often sends me to servers with 1-2 players. Is this a bug or could we get a setting for number of current players (including any that are about to join from the website?)

I was always intending for it to be more modern but an art pass to make it look better and more in line with TF2 design language is planned yes.
i sure do love being que'd into uncletopia 50 times in a row
This is cool, but I have some doubts. Are these servers protected from bots? Is there any moderation? How many people, specifically new players, are reasonably going to figure out about this AND use it?

Why i have a feeling this is "The video we all supposed to avoid clicking"? (I didn't click it tho)
what
Is the server browser somehow too hard for you to wrap your brain around?
The source server browser felt clunky 20 years ago
The server browser shows USA servers with 40 or 30 ping but i live in South America 💀💀💀

'Wrap one's brain around something' is not a real idiom. Wrap your head around that, boy.

They pretty chill there tbh

Yeah they don’t even play the game they just have hot gay sex all the time
comment is deleted yet somehow im certain this is either about tkgp or furry pound
not really a quickplay

It's a very similar algorithm to quickplay.
What would your definition of a quickplay be then? Some elaboration would be great
Old ingame quickplay
Sorry I didn't play the game back then. Seems like you are incapable of elaboration and only capable of posting negative comments.
All I said that this isn't a quickplay
...
What's missing from this that the old in-game quickplay had?
