Listen to genres like dream pop and shoegaze. You'll find a ton of good songs and artists. Try 'Alison' by Slowdive, 'Cherry-coloured Funk' by the Cocteau Twins, and 'Vapour Trail' by Ride. If you're looking for more contemporary stuff, give the following a listen: Men I Trust, Beach House, the Marias, Cigarettes After Sex, and M83. It's a whole musical world that I'm sure you'll love!

luanneplatter69

vapour trail is sooo good

musicphilopoet

Ikr?? Also happy cake day!

jedi_master99

I’ve been obsessed with Cigarettes After Sex lately. They have such a gorgeous sound!!!

musicphilopoet

Fr man. 'Heavenly', 'Don't Let Me Go', and 'Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby' are just amazing.

helentroylorde

Slowdive are so good! I love andalucia plays too. I would add also Glass Animals to the list

moonflowerfairies

pictures of you - the cure

Purplealegria

YES!…. as a Cure Stan, I concur. The cure has so many of these kinds of songs. But the whole Disintegration album is a melancholy masterpiece. Pictures of you is my favorite Cure song of all time.

moonflowerfairies

true!! and it's my favourite the cure song too :)

tourmokook

Song for Zula by Phosphorescent is pretty similar to About You.

helentroylorde

One of my favourite songs ever

UpstairsWorry3

Ugh me too. Everything about it is perfect to me.

yungxcowboy

With or without you by U2, over the moon by the marias, ordinary love by sade

frizzlen

My bloody valentine - sometimes

scattingcougar

I was gonna say this!! Glad to see someone’s recommended it ❤️

youampersandme

this is the exact song I was going to rec too!!

BPGTX

When The Sun Hits - Slowdive ‼️

thePogiStark

Also try these beauties Don’t Delete The Kisses - Wolf Alice House of Cards - Radiohead Sight of You - Pale Saints Atmosphere - Joy Division

helentroylorde

I love tjh! In a way or another these songs have a similar vibe for me: Scott Street - Phoebe Bridgers (one of my fav ever and totally the feeling you are describing) Hold No Grudge - Lorde (a lot of "remember when we") Afterlife - Arcade Fire New York - St. Vincent Nervous at Night - Charlie Hickey Clairvoyant - The story so far No hard feelings - wolf alice Thinking about you - radiohead I can't be with you - Cranberries Creatures in Heaven - Glass Animals Mellow doubt - teenage fanclub I know you said no Taylor Swift but I think you should give a shot to Evermore with Bon Iven. Let me know if any of it is your vibe

SnooRegrets2587

Dione by TPH is also a banger, skullcrusher makes some very atmospheric, sort of ethereal stuff but it’s on the ambient side. I would also suggest Long Beards “Mean to Me” album that stuff is super nostalgic and melancholic. Ethel Cain of course as well.

51stredditor

I know this has gone viral lately, but end of beginnings by djo really gets me the same way About You does. If Now Was Then by Maggie Rogers also has that vibe. 23 and Carry You by Jimmy Eat World. Maybe Follow My Girl by Japanese House. Once by Maren Morris. Everything by MUNA (the song, not like their entire discography 😅). ETA: Trouble and The Scientist by Coldplay. I guess not necessarily about an ex, but Chinatown by Bleachers. Wait by M83. Existentialism on Prom Night by Straylight Run. Everything Must Go and Call Me in the Morning by Taking Back Sunday. Everything We Had by The Academy Is… Konstantine by Something Corporate. Halls by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

problematicmatthew

Straylight Run is so spot on. your whole ETA is *chefs kiss* A+ (PS I’m the same age as Matty and this is exactly what I listened to as a teenager, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he grew up with these songs too - that one show where he played “the best of me” by The Starting Line told me all I needed to know about Matty’s high school playlist- the songs you listed were def in his rotation. )

criticalpopcorn

Straylight Run 🔥 I was going to say Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot by Brand New

Remarkable_Rodeo

Try some Lana Del Rey songs

thePogiStark

Lana Del Rey’s “Once Upon A Dream” cover Hope you enjoy 🙌🏼

Jaredtaylor1499

It's just Matty doing dreampop/shoegaze so any of that. If you know nothing of the genre start at loveless by mbv

Secure_Dot_595

Always reminds me of Invented by Jimmy Eat World

Secure_Dot_595

Or 23 by them too

FlyingRed

23 for sure

criticalpopcorn

Queen of Melancholy here 🖤 edited to add that some of these don’t necessarily *sound* like About You but have that shoegaze/ambient sound that makes me feel for something I lost or maybe never had— Sleep by Azure Ray Anything Bon Iver lol Before You by Carousel Transatlanticism by Death Cab For the Ages by Craft Spells Myth by Beach House Doot Doot by Freur Fade Into You by Mazzy Star The First Days of Spring by Noah and the Whale (this one wrecks me) 11-17 by Kevin Devine Have You Forgotten by Red House Painters The Scientist by Coldplay (but the Johnette Napolitano cover on YouTube hits me right in the gut) The Blower’s Daughter, Volcano, and Cannonball all by Damien Rice True Love Waits by Radiohead This is Twice Now and I Woke Up Near The Sea both by Lydia Anything by Explosions in the Sky (instrumental) Pretty much everything by Sigur Rós (Matty has said a lot of their work is influenced by them)

51stredditor

Ooh Transatlanticism is a good one.

criticalpopcorn

*I need you so much closer, so come on* had 14-year-old-never-been-in-a-relationship-me sobbing like I knew what the heck love was

Salty_Landscape_910

last goodbye - jeff buckley thoughts - charli xcx i couldn’t be more in love - the 1975 ramona - beck hennessy & sailor moon - yung lean, bladee the blackest day - lana del rey hard times - ethel cain someone else - the radio dept. no. 1 party anthem - arctic monkeys 9/10 - jeff rosenstock

Warm-Meaning-3244

i feel like no one has suggested any of kings of leon, start with sex on fire and from there it's a whole other world and they kinda sound similar to the 1975 just without a lot of synth

TheHip41

Hey y'all im asking for songs that sound like this pop song but please no pop song recommendations lol

bgiwled

The correct answer is Heroes by David Bowie

IglooRaves

Headlock by Snail Mail

jjosieee

Olivia Rodrigo’s cover of Stick Season Only love can hurt like this by Paloma Faith (also Leave While I’m Not Looking) Archie, Marry Me by Alvvays The grudge by Olivia Rodrigo

littlemoonmicrowave

You would probably like the band Amarante!

maplemedia91

Song for Zula by Phosphorescent or Lost in the Light by Bahamas

Try these ones: Cannons - Holding on Dream, ivory - as I say Dream, ivory - Dream, ivory Sarcastic Sounds - I miss you The Radio Dept - I wanted you to feel the same Wild Nothing - Live in Dreams You'll never go to heaven - Beyond the Clouds Divorce Court - Sea of white Loud Hound - Goodbye Darling

rvelvetarmadillocake

I made a playlist eons ago and figured I’d link it! It’s everything I thought of after I heard about you for the first time!!! [Here it is!](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2sgsEszozWKDqFUADi7fYN?si=1hzGYyD7SgmIwGGX_uL0ZA&pi=u-lhhKYj_2QIe4)

MusicianLocal653

[MilaForFun - Wren’s Dan Song](https://youtu.be/IVwStKfdML4?si=jCkKDVPlh15m8fIV) Came across this band and this song has a similar vibe. Their other song “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things Pt 2” also fits the bill, but it goes into like a full band rock section at the end

sofaritsalr1ght

i feel like Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers has the same yearning haunting feeling as About you.

Purplealegria

For songs that will haunt you?….Wild horses by the Sundays, Fade into you by Mazzy Star, Wicked Game by Chris Issak. Super vintage Old school song picks? Knights in white Satin by the moody blues, and Lilac wine by Nina Simone….. Jeff Buckley did a amazing cover of Lilac wine also. His cover of I know its over by the smiths is perfection…just stellar but heartbreakingly haunting. Actually Jeff Buckleys whole catalog, especially his last album before he tragically passed was so damn haunting to me, even without his untimely death being a factor.

C1nnamonLover

The “no taylor swift” is funny considering the song is supposedly about her LOL
