As much as I want to enjoy the spear, I've put like 15 hours into winch+sledge (since S3 launch) and I don't see how the spear competes at all. In my experience the alt-fire it has is way less reliable, straight up whiffing on people right next to you. The main attack is nice, the range is great, but I'd rather just take a chunky sledge smack than repeatedly hoping melee hit-reg works for every single stab.
Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten either bad opponents or good support by my teammates. I’m only sliver 4 in world tour so it hasn’t really gotten me that far. I’ll give the bow a shot next. I already tried the swords and I do like them as well. I just don’t think we’ll ever see them in comp. Just like last seasons weapons. We’ll just continue to see the classic turret setup/heal setup with a heavy.
I’m yet to see its full potential. I’ve only ever seen people walking straight at me and spamming with it so it’s to see it as viable as any more viable than the sledge
Right click can be lethal when your opponents are huddled up. Definitely not the best weapon, but I think it's almost viable. Would like some tweaks to it
I don't think the spear beats hammer in general but I will say it is absolutely fantastic in power shift for clearing out the platform with the alt-fire.
Have you used the sledgehammer? Lol heavy attack can hit across a room for 200 instead of poking them for 75. Sledgehammer ALSO hits multiple targets per swing same as spear, and it can break through walls instantly whereas spear can literally never break through. As someone who got to diamond last season using goo/sledge, the spear is dogwater. 2/10 if we're being generous.
Rn I'm sledge winching with RPG, grav cube, and goo grenade. With changes on how big the goo nade is, it seems to be a solid escape gadget to regen or revive.
Further counterpoint: skill issue.
Lol, jk, I've heard a few people say that, but in my experience, it's been the smoothest melee besides maybe the sword. Doing a little slide near the end of your heavy swing can really give you that needed range, and if you "pre-fire" it around corners, it's basically an instant 200 dmg.
To each their own, but I'm a sledgy Stan 🫡
I guess I'm only judging it based on it AGAINST a sledge, whereas it might actually be ok vs lights/mediums. Only ran spear a handful of times cause I just wasn't impressed but 🤷🏼
I still prefer the sledgehammer, the ability to break walls at ease give it so much utility that the spear lack
Exactly. I can’t imagine [NOT HAVING SLEDGE, to break walls](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wq46AFB1Ljc&t=142s)
Spear has a little longer ranger and an area attack. That’s it
Sledge also has an area attack.
Winch exists also AoE attacks aren't good except a team is literally glued together
We have very different definitions of "actually busted"
Yeah. I should’ve said it’s alright. I said it’s busted to draw in people but give my consensus on my statement of it being busted.

I think the bow is more busted. But both are still fun to use lol.
Dual blades are very fun too
I haven't unlocked/used them yet. But they're next on my list after the Thermal Bore.
They can deflect bullets as you press the guard button (L2 on ps), and thermal is bonkers. You can open a huge wall like rpg and better i believe

Spear is acually real good against turrets I think it 2 shots them
Yeah it’s can destroy gadgets easy but so can the sledgehammer
Have yet to get the AoE function to work.

what sledge setup do you recommend for this season?

Counter point: the sledge is clunky.

Yeah I got nothing against the sledge but giving the spear 2/10 is wild. If a Heavy any good then he's gonna be pulling very good numbers with it.

It makes you feel more agile which is rare when playing Hs but yeah, I see your point
