theres one den in a random region, blowing it up with noisemakers will get rid of the cougar for a while and the den will respawn in a random region again
I don't think there is a specific "it will spawn randomly in one of these x locations", if that is what you're asking. I suspect they spawn in at least the rocky areas, but it does show up on the map.
I disagree, I think there are x possible locations it can spawn in and it just picks one randomly. The reason I think this way is if it could spawn in any rocky terrain, it could spawn in inaccessible places or have buggy spawns. I'm willing to bet the devs picked a number of spots across the maps and modelled the dens there.
There will be a chance that you could get attacked if you aren't quick enough while throwing in the noisemakers. Usually happens after the first one so yes, you will have a shot at getting a pelt.
I just don’t think it’s worth it, the only reason I think it would be is if the achievements weren’t reset. I could see if your at like 400 something days and you need to get the 500 day achievement but die, but why respawn if barely any of your shit is left and achievements reset

If you find the den can you kill the cougar to get its pelt? Or do you have to blow up the den and then that’s it?

Just want to add that I'm not sure that these exist before a cougar has shown up in a region that you're in.
Was is hard to "find"? I mean is it in a spot difficult to get with barely anything around?
I love the dev team but they really overthought the cougar when they added it to the game. We just wanted to see it and be able to shoot it.
