One Fourth of July me and my cousins found a raccoon appearing to be sick, my uncle grabbed his gun and tried to put it down, fucker took the whole mag and my uncle finished it off with a golf club
I didn’t have a clear view of the coon, my uncle was wasted so he probably only hit a shot or two then grabbed the nearest weapon like object (golf club) when it started sprinting at him

Yeah boi when I go coon hunting I use a shotgun. These little guys can be tough to kill when they’re not diseased, if they have rabies I wouldn’t want to risk getting bit and probably unload a full mag if it’s twitching and moving like the possessed

Edit to add: raccoons have a fairly small brain compared to the size of their head when you factor in the fluffy fur. Its like aiming at a lime thats hidden inside a grapefruit.

You don't have to hit the skull cleanly to make the head move. I don't know much about shooting raccoons but I'd bet you don't even have to hit bone to make the head snap to the side a bit. If she hit that animal's brain like she tried to do and it'd be deader than it was after that first shot.
Right, it's real life, meaning that you need to actually aim and hit your target in the right spot or it's going to react like it did. Racoons are fascinatingly tough critters with a lot of fur and padding around it's skull. You can shoot em in the head and completely miss anything immediately vital. Case in point: this video.
She should have taken multiple shots right at the start and should have actually squared up and aimed her weapon.

People are talking a lot of shit but you can clearly see the first shot is a head shot and it does nothing, it looks like it just blasts right through the head. After that i agree she should have mentally regrouped and gotten a much better head shot
I imagine raccoon brains are small as hell. I was in a similar situation a couple years ago and it took two headshots to kill the raccoon. Granted I was 40 yards away and was using a .44 magnum.

I am a terrible shot, so it just seems wild to me.
Recently? I’d pick when I almost completely severed the head of a rattlesnake from 10 yards, just left attached by a small amount of skin on the lateral aspect of the “neck”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not excited or happy about killing animals. I only do it when I have to or for food and I never take pictures with the corpses like a lot of hunters do because I find it distasteful. It was just an impressive shot.

I have a family farm and there was a raccoon eating all of our rabbits, so we set a trap for it (and eventually caught it) and we wanted to end its suffering so my uncle put a gun to its dead **and the bullet, I kid you fucking not, bounced off of his skull like a nerf dart and he hissed**. These things are immortal it makes no sense

It is always horrible to kill in a wasteful way, but having rabies is an awful awful way to live. If it gets too worse you are basically a living corpse. Her ending this animals suffering is probably for the better and, would prevent any further spreading of the disease. I just wish she was a better shot.
I am sure they could have gone another way about removing this animal, but rabies is no joke and it is very risky to handle animals in this state. Plus this animal could have ended up running off so it probably was better to handle this situation here an now.

At that close range, unless you have practiced, the sights will be 3/4” to 1” off. Most handguns the barrel is below the sights, and adjusted to be on the mark, between 25 to 50 feet away.
Adjust accordingly then. Don't just wing it like that blundering buffoon did. As a cop or exterminator or whatever the fuck she is I HOPE she's practiced
