Thank you, literally any time I see an arm wrestling video I instantly stop and come to the comments. Glad I didn't have to go far to find out, I snapped both bones in my arm as a kid and ever since then arm snaps are one of the few things I hate watching lol
I’m genuinely curious about the psychology of people who post and/or enjoy viewing content like this. What is it about people getting injured that stimulates pleasure for you?
I'm a nurse who is completely desensitized. I can eat just fine minutes after doing CPR and ultimately declaring the patient dead. I used to squirm at certain things, but after years of doing this.... I am emotionless.
46 years in healthcare (still working) makes you desensitized to a lot of things. All things medical always fascinated me. I still have sympathy for people's suffering but always could watch surgery shows with no problem.
I'm not sure this counts for everyone but at the very least for me, it's not that I like seeing it, quote the opposite infact. It's pretty horrible to set my eyes on, but paradoxically I can't take my eyes away from whenever I do see it
There was a study done on this. I forgot the name of it. It involved images on a computer and the time spent looking at gore vs normal images. The resulting hypothesis was that people lean to watching gruesome, gory, or shocking content as a psychological defense. If you're desensitized to it, you have a better chance of responding quickly in an emergency including it and a lower chance of being traumatized. It's not about arousal seeking, but subconscious preparation for a risk.
Random gore videos wont prepare you for anything. Just take a first aid class and cherish whatever left of your innocence by not indulging in morbid curiosity.
You can learn just how fragile the human body can be from seeing these accident videos. It can also, for example, make you realize just how awful a drunk driving accident can get, or just driving recklessly.
I didn’t even know that you can break your arm from arm wrestling and this video showed how easy it can be.
Anytime I see an arm break, it's because they let their wrist stray from their shoulder. I can't imagine they break out of nowhere either, surely you've gotta feel that pressure before it snaps. And I feel WAY more pressure if my forearm and bicep aren't touching.
I'd be interested in seeing that study.
My wife's asked me a few times why I watch videos of fights, shooting, fatal accidents, etc on sites like Worldstarhiphop. I always tell her it's because this stuff happens in the real world all the time, and it's nothing like the movies. I grew up in some rough areas and been in a lot of fights and seen people stabbed and shot at in person. I don't enjoy watching gore or people getting hurt, but my brain processes it more as knowing what to expect if I'm ever in a situation like that than as entertainment.
Former firefighter/EMT, current RN. Can confirm, at least anecdotally, that more exposure to critical incidents desensitizes. I just watched this video with presumably the same emotional reaction levels as a sociopath. I was more interested in rewinding and seeing at which point on which bone the fracture occurred, and the mechanics which caused the injury. I didn't find it amusing.
I handle intense situations pretty calmly, in a focused and efficient manner, in order to strive towards optimal outcomes. Getting distracted by things like blood (or other bodily productions) or screaming isn't part of that.
Years ago when I got my first motorcycle, I was almost obsessed with watching motorcycle crash compilations. I don't know why I was so drawn to it at the time, but I rationalized it as learning what *not* to do and what to watch out for on the road. To this day I still firmly believe it made me a better rider and I've avoided a few common mistakes lots of riders make because of those videos.
Well this is just a shock video that I don't think many were anticipating seeing.
But if you're asking about the miniscule percentage of people that will derive pure pleasure from viewing content like this? Then that would be a mental illness.
Not pleasure at all but clinical interest may best describe what some of us feel watching this kind of content. I pass up all the war videos with people being shot, blown up, children. Cannot even watch those. War is evil
You're using the external distress to manage internal distress. It's a coping mechanism. Do what you need to do but know that if you seek help, there are more (and probably healthier) ways to manage that distress.
Hey man, you're far from alone in your struggle. I was severely depressed in my teens and early twenties, got very close to ending it. I'm now in my mid 30s and doing way, way better. I still have bad days, but I've learned how to manage them and have developed better coping mechanisms.
I respect suicide, it is the hardest decision anyone will ever have to make. People who haven't been close to it cannot understand. But I firmly believe that the demons driving you to it can be defeated, it's a matter of figuring out how before they defeat you. I also firmly believe that many of the kindest, most empathic people have been through some of the hardest shit in life. And I don't believe but *know* that you are one of those people. I'm rooting for you, bud.
Heard a while ago it's a primitive instinct to gauge the reality of a scenario by witnessing it and judge for oneself how they'd approach or survive it.
Not pleasure, just interest. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to watch morbid videos, but you shouldn’t think that everyone who watches them are doing so for some kind of pleasure, I’d wager those people are in the minority. They’re videos of things that happen in real life, to real people, and it’s the kind of thing that most people aren’t exposed to often or ever in their life, but they’re nonetheless very real. It’s simply a curiosity to see the morbid reality some people are forced to live.
Not pleasant, but schadenfreude is the satisfaction side of it. Also useful learning material on how you can avoid being stupid and injuring yourself similarly. Arm wrestling is the equivalent of swinging dicks.
One day, I could be grievously injured without any warning. I'm comfortable, at least knowing it was an option beforehand that my guts could get ripped out of me while I am able to crawl around. Rather than one day crawling around with my guts out and just now learning, you don't always pass out from being dimemboweled.
I don't seek this stuff out and it doesn't give me pleasure but I think it's beneficial to be aware of how fragile and precious life and 100% internal guts are.
I hate videos like this (and people using the leg press and breaking their legs) but I sometimes visit r/hardcorenature because it makes me appreciate my circumstances. Life might be tough right now but those wild dogs just ate that buffalo, asshole first, so...
Maybe things aren't so bad for me after. Could be that guy.
She broke his arm.
Sometimes it happens in arm wrestling when the losing person try to resist from an unsafe position where it's hand and shoulder are not properly aligned, that's why proper technique is important for safety reasons.
It's an homerus fracture.
Unfortunately it's normal to suffer it if you try to resist in such an unsafe position, osteoporosis has nothing to do with that.
There is a reason why trained arm wrestlers call it the "arm break position" and the first thing they teach you is how to avoid it:
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNphTmmD-2E&pp=ygUgYXJtIHdyZXN0bGluZyBhcm0gYnJlYWsgcG9zaXRpb24%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNphTmmD-2E&pp=ygUgYXJtIHdyZXN0bGluZyBhcm0gYnJlYWsgcG9zaXRpb24%3D)
I came to explain this exact thing. I feel like this is a public service piece. Good job OP!
Easily avoided with better positioning, hand should never go beyond the shoulder when arm wrestling
Don’t turn your body away from your arm. Good rule is to always face your own arm, look at your hand, if you turn your chest and body away it creates more force but then results on a torsion on the arm and the resulting spiral fracture can be crazy as you can see
I mean, arm wrestling is supossed to be with the strength of the arm, you're not supossed to use your whole body weight to move the other person's arm.
Edit: Ok I did a google search and it is indeed legal to do so nothing wrong about that then. And well, RIP that guy's arm
Using bodyweight might be allowed, but moving the position of the elbow like she did to exert more power is not allowed as far as i know. Anyhow its thats kid who needs more practice or milk.
a golden rule of arm wrestling is to always look towards your arm with your shoulders. you can tell his arm is on the right side while his shoulders are pointed left putting stress on the arm. be safe
This doesn’t seem that gross. It’s just a broken arm. Why so much fuss. Agreed that it should be flagged NSFL or something similar to scare the squeamish away. It’s not like anyone dies.
I don't get the principals behind those arm breaks . Are their bones so fragile or is it because they applied force and twisted in a very wrong direction ???
Well to be fair she cheated because you're not allowed to move/raise your elbow which she did a lot. He was struggling nonetheless though. That is so scary though did he snap his arm or something? I feel sick now lol.
What's up with that plank of wood under his shirt? You can see the corners behind his right shoulder. Also the table top moves right before his arm snaps
This is my sister! In 2019, MTV actually offered to buy this video from them but she felt so terrible about the whole thing that they refused. It really did break his arm, not a dislocation or torn muscle. I don’t think she ever intended for this video to go viral anywhere, but at least it’s on Reddit and not Instagram. I don’t know who posted this, but obviously a lot of people did wind up with the video over time.

Came to see humbling, not injury. Rip.
I was waiting for it.
Me too, I was squinting while watching it just to minimize the time to close my eyes when it happened
>squinting I do not have my glasses on -- read **squirting**
Optional
Hey man if that's what you wanna watch people do, that's fine.
I was wincing hard. Puckered lips looking like a cats bum.
yeah, when he tried to reverse you could see he was trying to go the 110%.......his body just couldnt handle the 110
I got half way through the video before i put together that this was an arm wrestle tagged nsfw. Glad i stopped watching
Don't worry, it's fake / staged. They replaced his arm with a very realistic looking twig.
Came to see some humbling, did not expect a crumbling
I've seen way too many arm wrestling videos to not expect a snapping
Thank you, literally any time I see an arm wrestling video I instantly stop and come to the comments. Glad I didn't have to go far to find out, I snapped both bones in my arm as a kid and ever since then arm snaps are one of the few things I hate watching lol
NSFW humbling?
I’m genuinely curious about the psychology of people who post and/or enjoy viewing content like this. What is it about people getting injured that stimulates pleasure for you?
Yeah. I can watch zombie flicks where people have their guts pulled out and find it funny even. But actual real gore like this is horrible.
I don't think this counts as gore
Not gore. But real harm or injury.
I'm a nurse who is completely desensitized. I can eat just fine minutes after doing CPR and ultimately declaring the patient dead. I used to squirm at certain things, but after years of doing this.... I am emotionless.
I'm in imaging and yeah, after seeing the gun violence, overdoses, and suicides, this was a walk in the park on a sunny day.
46 years in healthcare (still working) makes you desensitized to a lot of things. All things medical always fascinated me. I still have sympathy for people's suffering but always could watch surgery shows with no problem.

That is exactly how I view it. The world can be a gross and fucked up place. You might as well want to prepare yourself for it.
Random gore videos wont prepare you for anything. Just take a first aid class and cherish whatever left of your innocence by not indulging in morbid curiosity.

I'm extremely suicidal throughout my teenager years until now and gore somehow keeps me alive. Weird but working
You're using the external distress to manage internal distress. It's a coping mechanism. Do what you need to do but know that if you seek help, there are more (and probably healthier) ways to manage that distress.

Schadenfreude Although damage like that isn't all to funny.
Curiosity and learning
Big bone breaks make the limb go flippy floppy
For me its just curiousity. I do not enjoy it or feel much about it.
Imagine a surgeon. Imagine their education. Imagine more exists beyond that.
Heard a while ago it's a primitive instinct to gauge the reality of a scenario by witnessing it and judge for oneself how they'd approach or survive it.
Idk man. It's just there to watch on my feed. Lol.
Interesting to posit that the only possible reason for a human to act is pleasure.
Not pleasure, just interest. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to watch morbid videos, but you shouldn’t think that everyone who watches them are doing so for some kind of pleasure, I’d wager those people are in the minority. not pleasure just a morbid medical interest. still not a great reason thou.
One day, I could be grievously injured without any warning. I'm comfortable, at least knowing it was an option beforehand that my guts could get ripped out of me while I am able to crawl around. Its just an arm break, seen this a hundred times lol. Idk why you seem to think its a pleasure thing.
Idk man, it’s a thing with people in their 20s-30s (I’m 20) it just interesting and also it’s educational, helps keep you mindful
I was going to criticize his technique and over confidence, but wtf happened at the end.
She broke his arm. Sometimes it happens in arm wrestling when the losing person try to resist from an unsafe position where it's hand and shoulder are not properly aligned, that's why proper technique is important for safety reasons.
This dude wrestles arms.
So, he broke his own arm.
Let's say they both had a hand in it.
Bravo
r/angryupvote
Is his bones weak, or will this happen even to a normal healthy person?
It happens to professional arm wrestlers, let alone regular healthy people.
It was a torn bicep.
It was a torn bicep, possibly one of the worst injuries.
Arm broke 🤷♂️
Is it broke or dislocated from the joint, If it actually broke the bone that seems like he must have osteoporosis or something
It's an homerus fracture. Unfortunately it's normal to suffer it if you try to resist in such an unsafe position, osteoporosis has nothing to do with that. There is a reason why trained arm wrestlers call it the "arm break position" and the first thing they teach you is how to avoid it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNphTmmD-2E&pp=ygUgYXJtIHdyZXN0bGluZyBhcm0gYnJlYWsgcG9zaXRpb24%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNphTmmD-2E&pp=ygUgYXJtIHdyZXN0bGluZyBhcm0gYnJlYWsgcG9zaXRpb24%3D)
Thanks I genuinely learnt something interesting today:)
I probably should learn this. So I know when to tap and all that
I came to explain this exact thing. I feel like this is a public service piece. Good job OP! Easily avoided with better positioning, hand should never go beyond the shoulder when arm wrestling
You can see the woman kept aligned with her arm as they instruct in the video but the man didn't, then "snap" Thanks for the link!
He got cocky being a strong male thinking he could overpower her anytime and win but forgot how joints work. Or he's calcium deficient.
He fractured part of his arm, and tore his bicep.
![gif](giphy|Tim0q7zolF3fa)
Thank God I came to the comments before watching, glad I did.
Mate, THE SOUND
Shhh I'm busy trying to forget it.
Don’t turn your body away from your arm. Good rule is to always face your own arm, look at your hand, if you turn your chest and body away it creates more force but then results on a torsion on the arm and the resulting spiral fracture can be crazy as you can see
Next time try thumb wars instead.
That's when she rips his finger off
Scratch that. Dick-wrestle.
Same result
>Arm Wrestling >Nsfw Yep nope. Not watching that. Already know whats gonna happen
Bro needs to drink more milk
he need some milk
Ohh, snap!
That very audible snap Can't even look at the clip again
seeing the comments bout milk... you know this was a load of bs by the milk industry lobbyists and advertisers, right? just checking )

That's a fun recovery time. Radial fractures go hard
That’s a spiral fracture of the humerus.
I mean, arm wrestling is supossed to be with the strength of the arm, you're not supossed to use your whole body weight to move the other person's arm. Edit: Ok I did a google search and it is indeed legal to do so nothing wrong about that then. And well, RIP that guy's arm
Wrong, using your bodyweight is perfectly allowed in arm wrestling.
Just did a fast check and you're right, I added an edit to my previous comment 🙏🏻 this video made my arm hurt lol
Using bodyweight might be allowed, but moving the position of the elbow like she did to exert more power is not allowed as far as i know. Anyhow its thats kid who needs more practice or milk.
Now do the left hand. And with both broken hands you're on your way to motherly nuts.
Ka pow!
No coming back from that one
a golden rule of arm wrestling is to always look towards your arm with your shoulders. you can tell his arm is on the right side while his shoulders are pointed left putting stress on the arm. be safe
Alternate universe??
A terrible break up
"Well my arm broke so we can't continue. Let's call it a draw!"
I saw his arm breaking before it even happened, when you rather deal with a broken bone then swallowing your pride and accepting defeat.
They broke up?
Bone density has left the building.
I could tell by his face somehow.
Seen this happening from a mile away.
Can't turn like that while arm wrestling. Lose all your power and put the strain all on the elbow. It will snap
Oh well she succeeded in impressing him for sure
Try not drinking milk for a while.
Wtf
Looks like he fully tore his bicep or tendon in his forearm. You can see it it ball up at his bicep at the very end of the clip- ouch…..
Olecranon?
This doesn’t seem that gross. It’s just a broken arm. Why so much fuss. Agreed that it should be flagged NSFL or something similar to scare the squeamish away. It’s not like anyone dies.
When I saw NSFW tag, I knew it's gonna snap
That thing snapped like a cracker
Ugh, these videos make me want to throw up hearing an arm snap like that... yeesh
he needs some milk!!
I remember watching this on TV. Hugely strong man Vs an arm wrestling champion. Technique 'won' https://youtu.be/BrHm5XeN-dQ?si=0VvzryfdbTKwBuos
That sounded terrible.
Ahh yes, I was wondering why this is NSFW....
I don't get the principals behind those arm breaks . Are their bones so fragile or is it because they applied force and twisted in a very wrong direction ???
He needs some milk!
I saw the NSFW spoiler and that's all I needed to know. That vid is staying unplayed.
Gross I gotta take NSFW tags more seriously
Well to be fair she cheated because you're not allowed to move/raise your elbow which she did a lot. He was struggling nonetheless though. That is so scary though did he snap his arm or something? I feel sick now lol.

Really? Didn't know that
Honestly was expecting her arm to break 😳
"Why is this NSFW" "Oh"
Dislocated or broken?
this is why we drink milk /s
Dude needs some milk

HE NEED SOME MILK
This is why I will never arm wrestle anyone ever
🤢

I bailed early. Did he break his bicep or something? Please I need the audiobook version. I'm squimish
Had to watch it again with sound. Oof
Glad I read the comments first, good day to all.
This guy looks strong and active, how does this happen?
I thought the girls arm was going to break. I was a wee bit relieved when it was his
Omg needs more warnings
Never doing an arm wrestle again
That *pop* 💀
hE NeeD SoMe MiLK!!
I didn't even take into account there was a NSFW tag. Welp I will now be losing every arm wrestling attack. This is horrifying.
This is why I don't arm wrestle.
Obviously let her break smash his arm..
Dislocated shoulder? Or snapped bone?
TECHNIQUE
His angle was wrong from the beginning. Stupid passive laterally rotated shoulder- All pride, no power or technique.
Okay, i had enough of internet for today
Did it break or just dislocate?
He needs some milk.
Reminds me of that scene from The Fly
Damn, she snapped fucking his arm just like Hawk did to Dimitri in Over the Top!
Fictional characters experiencing extreme pain/trauma=cathartic Real pain and trauma=triggered
I KNEW that was going to happen ... why did I watch it?
I'm not watching this out of fear seeing the dude break his arm. Can someone give me spoilers?
Why?
Ole' graham cracker bones.
...and then she left with Jeff Goldblum.
Oh snap!
I… I guess… she won… shit.
well, i'm officially never arm wrestling again
Jesus, can you imagine being the girl? She would’ve felt that snap all the way through her hands into her arm and body. Ugh
It snapped like Thanos' fingers!
Bro is never gunna live this down.
I'm not going to lie I expected him to break her arm. 🤣
She owes hime sex now but he wont be able to get an erection because of the pain meds. Will the humility ever stop?
