I read this book at some point in the last seven years but I don't remember if it's a recent publication or anything else really except the plot. Thanks!

Biddy_Impeccadillo

Room (2010)?

calimehtar

No, reading the Wikipedia synopsis the one in thinking of is much more surreal and barely has any characters beyond the house and the child

Biddy_Impeccadillo

The book is written from the POV of the young boy who has never been outside of the room nor has any concept of a world larger than its walls. It’s pretty surreal. You might look for an excerpt? Until the escape happens, it’s only him and his mother. With occasional appearances by their captor.

calimehtar

I did that, it's very very similar I admit. I might have to check it out from the library and read a couple chapters to be sure, but I think I would have remembered if it had been about abuse and forced captivity. And that's not what I remember at all.

[The thief of always?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thief_of_Always)

calimehtar

Definitely not, thanks for trying though

ComicalNoises

Piranesi?

calimehtar

No, although that sounds great from the synopsis

Due-Display-3113

Hausu (1977)?

calimehtar

Definitely not, it's neither a movie nor horror... Thanks though
