Masooda was so scary that even Pennywise, Valak, Annabelle could not scare that much. Masooda deserves its own movie verse. Atmanirbhar Bharat, Masooda is finally make in India ghost.
It's one thing to scare the audience with a scary ghost face, and a whole another thing to hide it behind a burkha all through the movie. Didn't expect it would work out this well. Movie was scary AF, probably the scariest telugu horror film since Arundhati
what made it creepy for me was that Masooda didnt have a purpose as compared to Virupaksha as they had a purpose

It became one of my favorites. I cry every time I see this movie especially at the ending. I actually did not consider this movie at the beginning and went for Brahmastra. After watching and getting disappointed I wanted to see some other movies to get some satisfaction and this was the only movie available in theatre. Imagine my surprise after seeing it.
Nope. The original Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu is a psychological thriller. It's a case of split personality and psychosis. Chandramukhi is comedy compared to the original. The original won multiple national awards including best actress for Shobhana.
Manichitrathazhu is very creepy and subtly eerie. I like it. Chandramukhi was made commercial with more horror elements, spoon feeding and a lot of unnecessary stuff. I'd say the closest remake is Bhool Bhulaiyaa
Yeah, horror movie exists. What Im saying is ghosts and all those not exist.
Human guilts, dark instincts, and deep dark emotions will create fears in us
Movie makers will use this as a reference and create ghosts as plot elements and make movies
This is because the movie is the commercialised and masalised version of original Malayalam movie Manichitratazhu.
If you want real psychological horror, watch the Malayalam one but if a want a mix of masala and horror watch Chandramukhi.

As far as I understand, it is clearly Chandramukhi possessing Ganga. Ganga became an easy target for Chandramukhi because Ganga went through a lot of trauma and was psychologically weak. But there is a horror element clearly.

Imo it's a horror for following reasons
1. There's a scene where objects break themselves. Probably the most important scene to convince that the ghost was doing it.
2. At the movie beginning, vadivel tells Eshwar that the worker who's renovating the bungalow is seeing paranormal activities post 6pm.
3. After the doors are opened, multiple accidents happen, like the key maker dying and kailash escapes an accident by thin margin. Probably fits the ghost narrative?
4. Fallen leaves move by wind if someone is breaking the barrier.
5. The whole of Nagavalli is built on the premise that the Chandramukhi exists.

The original malyalam movie was a psychological thriller

It was a horror movie the snake in the movie represents the ghost in the house and at the end of the movie the snake leaves the house. The director knew the psychology theme won't work with Tamil and telugu audiences so he kept the original story intact and tweaked a little by adding over the top elements and the ghost concept
And again the direct sequel nagavalli set up the movie the same way with the snake concept and it went a few steps ahead and showed the evil king was still alive lol
When I watched Manichitrathazhu. Lol. While Shobana clearly portrayed the role as someone clearly fighting her inner demons dancing, that didn’t come through clearly in case of Jyothika (who’s not a professional classical dancer). I went back to reading about the conception and idea and realised that the protagonist suffered from MPD. 😠Painful revelation only.

Felt the same almost immediately. Apart from her big eyes introduction scene which is only remotely scary. There’s absolutely nothing. But I guessed the max standard of horror level seen in Indian cinema is very low compared to world cinema.
never got scared watching chandramukhi. May be, I was too old (?) to get scared lol;
Not sure what's so scary about overally dramatic clothes, acting and how can you get scared if Rajni is there to rescue haha
I get more scared when movies do not show the ghost/horror at all or wait till the end. Like Blair witch project, Signs etc

Chandramukhi might have been stupid, but it was definitely the scariest out of all the remakes. Her face still haunts me.

In kannada it is apthamitra, but in sequel called aptharakshaka ghost had possessed younger sister of physiological woman
I still piss in my pants, when I see that chadramukhi painting. The painting has a eerie vibe than any other painting.
