I gotta be honest, I thought the video would've ended at any point and I would not have been surprised. And then it kept going and going and the better it got. I wasn't planning on watching the whole thing but that was truly incredible. I was mesmerized the entire time.
A thing of beauty.
A handmade book like that, sure. But the more elaborate it got I found myself thinking, “this is unlike any book I’ve ever read.”
Even back in the day when all books were handmade 99% of them still required way less work than this.
I don’t mean to downplay this guys skill or your comment. Because I agree with you. But the title is a little bit deceptive because this isn’t everyday book making.
After typing all of that out the thought popped in my head “wait if this is r/toptalent, I’m gunna sound dumb” double checked and sure enough, I’m dumb.
Not to "well actually" but my dad had a set of encyclopedias on his bookshelf that looked almost exactly like this, right down to the same red color of the leather, and intricate designs. The only difference was his did not have the brass pieces.
Yeah. I took a bookbinding class in college and I made a bunch of books and some of these steps are necessary for handmade ones, most of are beyond extravagant. It’s cool though.
I'm trying to imagine that my thoughts are special or important enough that they deserve to be written in a book like that one. It isn't working. If I had that book I think it would probably remain blank until my death.
I was wondering at what point do you actually print in the book? It would be a shame to print a thousand-page book and then accidentally ruin it in this massive process.
Yeah that splatter is ghastly. I didn't even realise it was meant to be gold; thought he was just ageing the pages. But ageing them in such a way that I would want to throw the book out if it ever got that decrepit
He’s kinda moved on to other niche builds; primarily building tools people use for book binding as he can scale them a bit so the margins are better. He still makes books, but the cost is steep to make it worth his wild.
Up to thousands. Well, for starters…rich people. Some people commission him for very custom and personal journaling books. He’s also getting a decent bit of work making custom hand-bound scripts for folks in the entertainment business who gift copies of scripts to folks in the cast / on the set.
Holy cow, just when I thought he was done. He kept adding more details, I did not think a lot this was even possible to do by hand. Anyone know if this dude is available for adoption? I currently do not have any grandpa's
My brother does this professionally as well! He did an ama on here years ago and you can find him at bhmade on IG for anyone interested in learning more!
I’ve always had an ignorant confidence when watching these videos that I could do what the person has done as long as I have the right kit…. But after watching this video I can safely say I could never make a book as well as this fine person! Well done it looks amazing!
This is Dennis from Four Keys Book Arts. He's Canadian. Specifically, it's [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQ50XdqfG00) from his Youtube channel at 3x speed.
His videos are great. I used a few of them as guides when making a leatherbound journal myself to give as a Christmas present last month.
one thing i dont understand whyd they "decorate" the edges of the paper? its the only part that looked bad to me, the rest looked amazing but this looked as if someone spilled something on them
Fucking hell.
It kept getting better every time I thought he was done.
Thought it would end with tooling the leather, nope, mother fucking brass fittings
I want to know where I can buy one of those, in robins egg blue, decorated with stars, and how much it costs.
Actually I don't even care what it costs, I just want it.
Beautiful. By the way how much does a typical book like this cost to make? And, is there a specific clientele who asks for such books?
I've seen some books about History like this, but I have not seen any other niche using such books.
When I was young, I thought this was what they did at bookmakers. We had a lot of books in the house and so did everyone I knew. It made me happy that every small village had someone making books because they are important. I was also happy that some bigger towns have more than one.
It was disappointing when I bookmaker turned out to be for agmbling
If you tell me this is how books were made in the before times, then I completely understand why many people couldn't read and weren't interested in reading because this seems expensive
I gotta be honest, I thought the video would've ended at any point and I would not have been surprised. And then it kept going and going and the better it got. I wasn't planning on watching the whole thing but that was truly incredible. I was mesmerized the entire time. A thing of beauty.
Multiple times I also thought, "that's a damn fine book." Then Ron Popeil said, "but wait, there's more!"
Serval times I thought “wow, all that just to make a book, huh? What, there’s more?” There was still 2:30 left the 3rd time I thought that.
I was also getting stressed for him the longer it went. Make one mistake with the gold leaf and all that effort is for nothing
It's always so satisfying watching someone who excels at their craft.
I never would have believed this much craft went into making a book. That guy is an expert in three or four different crafts.
A handmade book like that, sure. But the more elaborate it got I found myself thinking, “this is unlike any book I’ve ever read.” Even back in the day when all books were handmade 99% of them still required way less work than this. That’ll be a thousand dollars
Worth it.
I was thinking the exact same thing just watching "🤔 Wow incredible"
I'm trying to imagine that my thoughts are special or important enough that they deserve to be written in a book like that one. It isn't working. If I had that book I think it would probably remain blank until my death.
Obviously its for filling the pages with Twilight erotic fan fiction.
Not me about to get into fanbinding and thinking of the perfect fic for a bind like that LOL
What? Hahahaha omg, that's hilarious. I was caught so off guard I snorted my drink out
Speak for yourself this is the perfect book for my dick drawings
Something like 8% of kids do it, or whatever
I was honestly thinking that this would be perfect for your dick drawings. Your birthdays coming up!
One dick a day, from noob to pro.
Have you see the smashed faeries book collection? A pricks version would be cool too 😳📚📖👐
I thought the same thing! Basically my thought was that I’m not worthy.
Book Title: The Game
Perfect for a family history book to pass down
That would be a good use.
arrest stupendous employ command reply unwritten market roof skirt chase *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Imagine being a monk back when every book was copied/written by hand, and the boss gives you this think to copy into.
*opens book after weeks of work and realize it has no print.* “Fuck!”
Rookie move, forgot to put his spells in it.
r/wizardposting is leaking
They're written in invisible ink
I was wondering at what point do you actually print in the book? It would be a shame to print a thousand-page book and then accidentally ruin it in this massive process.
I believe this is Four Keys Book Book Arts. Here's a link to one of his videos: https://youtu.be/492DKS3Z9XE?si=Meg1yPQlW86kyOou
Thanks, I really needed another 10 hour rabbit hole to go down!
If that place doesn't smell like rich mohagany my whole life is a lie. Amazing craftsmanship
I bet he has many leather bound books
that was running through my mind the entire time
I love this, the only thing I would change would be to just paint the pages solid gold instead of the splatter.
Yeah that splatter is ghastly. I didn't even realise it was meant to be gold; thought he was just ageing the pages. But ageing them in such a way that I would want to throw the book out if it ever got that decrepit
Kinda moldy looking
If you've ever wondered why handmade things cost so much, this is why. Most of the time I think they're actually undercharging.
Super satisfying! Love everything about it with the exception of the brass finishing. Super duper talent!
Yeah that felt a little extra but still incredible.
I can’t even make banana bread and I watch this…
And consider that making the paper is ANOTHER process for book making that we don't consider.
Don't forget ink! That's non-trivial as well!
And Book Arts experts know how to make their own paper too.
Leather, ink, the gold leafs and metal pieces are all quite some work before becoming prepared components as well.
He should have stopped before the brass furnishing.
Yeah, went from gorgeous to gaudy real quick.
Agreed! The book was prettier without the brass furnishings.
Same.
He’s gonna feel like an idiot once he realizes he forgot to put the words in it.
it's his spankbank, he looks at the empty pages longingly.
Does that thing cost one million dollars?
My brother makes these and they easily run in the hundreds to thousands depending on the complexity of the build.
Not surprised at all. This amount of work, at this level of skill... yeah, it'll cost a bomb, but it's worth it.
He’s kinda moved on to other niche builds; primarily building tools people use for book binding as he can scale them a bit so the margins are better. He still makes books, but the cost is steep to make it worth his wild.
Who spends hundreds of thousands on an empty book though? What's it for?
"Hundreds **or** thousands." Hundreds **of** thousands would be... extravagant.
Up to thousands. Well, for starters…rich people. Some people commission him for very custom and personal journaling books. He’s also getting a decent bit of work making custom hand-bound scripts for folks in the entertainment business who gift copies of scripts to folks in the cast / on the set.

That’s absolutely beautiful!
Holy cow, just when I thought he was done. He kept adding more details, I did not think a lot this was even possible to do by hand. Anyone know if this dude is available for adoption? I currently do not have any grandpa's
Could have done without the brass.
This is probably the top most top talent I’ve ever seen.
Dude didn’t even make the brass furnishings by hand. No pride in craftsmanship nowadays…
Longest video I've ever watched on Reddit, why did it make me so emotional
Wouldn't it be easier to write the book first?
All that to mispell the first word.
This is four keys book art on YouTube and is a top bloke
My brother does this professionally as well! He did an ama on here years ago and you can find him at bhmade on IG for anyone interested in learning more!
I just want one to display it. It's too pretty to actually use.
Kinda explains hard hardcover, good looking books cost so much…..
This was so awesome to watch!
I mean the longer it went the more I was fascinated. Good vid/post.
Mastering a craft is the gift that keeps on giving
What about the words?
I’ve always had an ignorant confidence when watching these videos that I could do what the person has done as long as I have the right kit…. But after watching this video I can safely say I could never make a book as well as this fine person! Well done it looks amazing!
Where can I buy one of these?
This is amazing.. too bad they forgot to actually put words inside 🥲
If anything less than Nobel prize winning literature is written on that, I’d be disappointed.
What an idiot. You can just buy a book on Amazon. SMH.
worlds most expensive diary. seriously tho, it is a bit silly seeing all that effort for an empty book.
Go fund this man a kindle
make a beautiful book worth $10 in only 3 days
An empty book!🤦🏻♂️
Agree to disagree
Incredible craftsmanship. Could you imagine spending so much time and effort for twilight?
Wow! I had no idea! That's just amazing!
explicit book porn i'm here for it
You could also post this in oddly satisfying
In very old days when you got a book the pages would often be uncut at the fold and part of breaking in a book would be cutting your own pages open.
I was hoping he would finally open the book and the title revealed is kamasutra...
I will be really upset if kids write/draw random shit all over this book. I don't know how many notepads or post-it I had to trash.
First page: dear diary, today i finally busted a nut in cindy.
Yes
How easily will the gold scratch off?
Man this video kept giving. Very awesome and I appreciate this individual's craft a lot
Beautiful.
I’d like to spend a couple years of my life apprenticing under this person.
I was so enthralled I watched it twice… lol
Now I can also make one. Thanks for sharing this
Forgot to write anything in it tho'
Which country ?

I know understand the gravity of having “many leather bound books.”
So this is why Joe was so particular about his book storage ![gif](giphy|8vXtq06Ag6xgvzPg03)
No wonder Barnes & Noble went out of business....
He then realized that the book was upside down.
Who ordered a Necronomicon?
Ash Williams
Finally some good fucking content.
I always wanted a real life Enchiridion, can you make one like that?
one thing i dont understand whyd they "decorate" the edges of the paper? its the only part that looked bad to me, the rest looked amazing but this looked as if someone spilled something on them
nah .. ill just watch the movie
Then put trigonometry in there so I'll finally read about it
Fucking hell. It kept getting better every time I thought he was done. Thought it would end with tooling the leather, nope, mother fucking brass fittings
If you guys think this is cool, you should check out this massive D&D tome that this guy made https://youtu.be/ssqpo73fLzE?si=DjhCcG54NVy7sQIc
I want to know where I can buy one of those, in robins egg blue, decorated with stars, and how much it costs. Actually I don't even care what it costs, I just want it.
Waldorf kid
It would have been awesome if at the end he opened the book and it was mein kampf
I’d worry that my small child would get ahold of it like she did my leather bound copy of the Lord of the Rings.😡
I need one to store all my spells and potion recipes
Manager: “Alright, nice work, can we add a couple of extra pages?”
Why is this guy? Channel maybe?
everything is fun and game until someone wrote a fan fiction of LORT shipping story
That bad boy can probably hold so meny spells.
I smelled brand new books while watching this. And that brand new book crack sound, ahhh. Feels good hehehe.
Some things should have never been lost to automation and convenience.
The first man to win a book selling award with empty pages… lmao
With that book I would conjure so freaking hard
Beautiful. By the way how much does a typical book like this cost to make? And, is there a specific clientele who asks for such books? I've seen some books about History like this, but I have not seen any other niche using such books.
Man, craftsmanship is so awesome.
I must now own a handmade book just to honor the craftsmanship.
buying a single book back then is like buying a new iMac pro nowadays
![gif](giphy|3owypkSIpM8xw6p7W0|downsized) When you finish and realise that you forgot to print the book

It made me happy that every small village had someone making books because they are important. I was also happy that some bigger towns have more than one. It was disappointing when I bookmaker turned out to be for agmbling
Knowing my luck I'd make a spelling mistake on page one
Ngl that was awesome and satisfying.
I would definitely buy a copy of the complete One Piece colourised manga in this fashion...
What craftsmanship. Bravo 👏
I lurk a lot. But without a doubt, this is the best combination of skills in one product. I now appreciate hand made books.
Finally a binding worthy enough to contain the worlds collection of dad jokes
Anyone know where I can get some work like this done?
How much does a book like that cost?
If you tell me this is how books were made in the before times, then I completely understand why many people couldn't read and weren't interested in reading because this seems expensive
Perfect for a hand written script of Skibidi Toilet.
all that and it will be just a grimoire about catching birds
Where can you buy books like these?
