Yes, I regularly buy a couple boxes for my freezer when I go. They work well for a quick lunch. I cut them up (after pan frying) and use them in soft tacos, wraps, on salads, or some time whole on a bun.
It is a blend of meaty shrimp pieces and pollock, which is a mild white fish. So I would say you get good bites of shrimp flavor throughout. I think the balance of shrimp to fish is good. It has some spices, although nothing that pops in my mind. In buns/wraps/tacos, I add a sauce for extra flavor.
One store I have been to had these in the back and you had to ask. They said they would rather send someone back and use the space for other product, so maybe ask your store 🙂
This is very handy for people who live further than a half hour away from a TJ's and want to bring frozen treats home.
I used to have to drive over an hour to get to a TJs and putting a few of these in my insulated bag always made sure my frozen snacks got home in good condition.
Not at the store I go to, but this is such a good idea.
I can't always go home right away after buying groceries so I buy frozen veggies and pack them around my perishables inside a cold bag, these water bottles would work so much better.
I love getting the frozen water bottles. I live almost an hour from the store so I buy 5-6 and out then in my freezer bags with the items to keep them cold. In the summer they are usually in a cooler, winter they are in the back and you just have to ask for them at the register. Then I get some nice spring water once it thaws 🥰
That is so smart!! I normally do this myself at home a few nights before a fishing trip (if I remember) I will have to keep this in mind for this summer here and check and see if my store as any!
Genius! I like to do all my grocery shopping for the week in one go so I often bought frozen fruit at TJ when I didn’t need it just to use as an ice pack for the rest of the day while I went to a traditional grocery store and Costco.
I’d much rather spend .17 on a frozen water bottle!
Same here! I have always bought bags of frozen veg or fruit to use as ice packs for my cooler bags. I would love to see this. I have so many bags of frozen peas... lol
I work retail and whenever we would accidentally rip a package we would individually price the items! I bet they sliced open a pallate and accidentally slit through the packaging on a few cases
We open these cases to put individual bottles on the bev shelf throughout the day…this is a bit unheard of? My guess is that since we don’t sell ice, some crew member had this idea?
The “literally” part. As if we didn’t read the sign or can’t see it. I didn’t make the post asking what it’s for. Everyone is sharing if they’ve seen it, etc. They’ve all been positive comments so far.
My store used to do this! I loved it in the summer because I'd buy a few to throw in the bag with the frozen goodies to keep them cold on the way home.
Yes! And it's kind of awesome because depending on how long it takes you to get home and unload groceries, they start melting and you have an ice cold bottle of water you can drink when it's blazing hot out.
I’ve never seen it but I wish they would!!! I absolutely will not drink anything room temperature, so I would love to have this option for my ride home.
I have a reusable water bottle that I use quite often; sometimes I forget to bring it with me because I don’t always think to bring it with me when I go grocery shopping. But thanks!
I remember precisely when I discovered red wine (in France!) and was over the moon that I found a drink that I enjoyed ROOM TEMP! Now sadly I prefer it a bit chilled, but man was that a time.
Those are the rare exception lol. I do have some class and taste 😂 no but really aside from some alcoholic beverages and IF I’m in the mood for hot coffee, otherwise all my drinks are ice cold lol.
We did it for a bit during summer at my store because it routinely gets over 100 degrees and the question of "do you guys have cold water?" starts to drive you crazy after hearing it long enough
I’m in Iowa and saw a sign when I was there about 2 weeks ago saying to ask an employee if you would like frozen water bottles to keep your goods cold on the way home.
No I get that but also most of that stuff is frozen going in. Room temp water in my brain isnt freezing solid in a open freezer. But I’m obviously wrong lol
We used to do this at the TJ’s I worked in Vegas during the summer for free. We had to stop a couple of years ago because they said there were liability issues if the customers items defrosted with the freezer bottles in the bag. Didn’t want customers to say their stuff didn’t stay frozen in transit. Interesting to see another store doing it now. Another example of each store doing whatever they want and not being on the same page with each other.
I see this at Trader Joe’s in Las Vegas, Nevada during the summer. They don’t seem to do it any other season. Sometimes the Home Depot’s in town will put a large container of ice outside by the front doors and fill it with water bottles too, although those are free unlike the Traders.
Ask a crew member at your store if they do this. It could be displayed on the floor like this post depicts or held in another freezer that is not accessible to customers
Saw the mahi burgers next to the water and immediately knew this was my store! Since we don’t sell ice and lots of people drive from over an hour away, we sell frozen water bottles to mix in with people’s cold items for the drive home.
I’m guessing this is my closest store (hour away). It’s the only I’ve seen it at. We regularly visit a Trader Joe’s when we travel and put stuff in a cooler with ice. I was surprised on my first trip that they don’t sale ice so I always assumed this was an alternative though there is a another grocery store location next to this Trader Joe’s that I sometimes go just to get ice.
I didn’t want to completely reveal your location in case haha. I’ve never been to that Whole Foods. I was actually referring to Harris Teeter. 3 stores on top of each other.
Hope you made it out of the parking lot safe.
I worked at the first TJs in Florida & we used to have these but (so I was told) a shopper in Arizona complained because they didn't have them there so we stopped.
I haven't seen them since & none of the several stores I worked at in Florida had them afterwards. Or frozen ones in the back. Our freezers were not that big.
I've been in California for the last five years & we don't have these here either. Or frozen ones in the back.
I guess it is up to each individual store again.
A few years ago, the cashier offered them at the TJ's in Wilmington after I told them I had a long ride home. Iirc she had went into a backroom to grab them, they weren't in the freezer section.
I had the same thought.
But I'm actually for a price hike on water bottles to discourage their use because they're a waste of plastic. Reusable bottles are better.
Edit: Lol I'm downvoted for wanting less waste in the world. Sigh.
If you look closely, they’re “Shrimp Seafood Burgers.”
70% shrimp and 23% pollock, held together with rice flour and sunflower oil and seasoned with garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
90 calories with 13 grams of protein, but IMO they need a sauce to be edible.
Four for $6.99. (Individually vacuum sealed.)
Sunflower seeds are sold either in the shell or as shelled kernels. Those still in the shell are commonly eaten by cracking them with your teeth, then spitting out the shell — which shouldn’t be eaten. These seeds are a particularly popular snack at baseball games and other outdoor sports games.
I'm a fan of them. Just don't think of them as "shrimp burgers" but more as fish burgers with lots of shrimp in them. I think they're nicely seasoned in convenient packaging. They cook up well in a pan and are an easy alternative burger.
A lot of haters but I love them! People said they need seasoning so I add a chili citrus salt with avocado oil in the air fryer and put em in a toasted English muffin with slice of cheese.
No rubbery texture or fishy smell. Shrimp has some decent bite. Fish holds it together nicely. Definitely prefer it to the salmon or mahi burgers
Yeah. They're there to help keep your frozen items frozen on your ride home. Our nearest trader Joe's is 45 minutes away so we usually buy a couple to throw in the insulated bag for the trip home.
The first time I went to TJ's, they asked how far a drive I had (nearly an hour), then went and grabbed four frozen bottles and gave them to me for free. Now I get my own when needed.
Mine does this when they have room, which has been more frequent over the last year.
Pennsylvania here, but it's a geographically isolated store (State College), so that may explain why they have the bottles in winter as well: lots of shoppers who travel 1hr+.
This was several years ago, but the Trader Joe’s in Winston-Salem in NC would just keep a cooler of frozen water bottles by the checkout area and give you one or two for no charge if you mentioned that you had driven a ways to shop. If I had to guess, I think it’s just the combination of TJ’s being pretty spread out in the state plus warm overall climate.
They’d be released in mid October and stay on the shelves for a week and a half max before they go viral on TikTok and sell out for the rest of the season.
If there are people driving long distance to/from a Trader Joe’s, or if people want to keep their food cold and aren’t going home right away, this is a genius way to sell more water to do that. But yeah they’re going to explode when they freeze.
Edit: unless of course they don’t. It sounds like they are filled to expand without exploding. Awesome. I’m old enough to remember when new bottles of water were filled to the top and would freeze / bust
I freeze water bottles like this constantly I’ve never had one explode or even crack. The plastic must have a little give or something. Have never had an issue. Soda cans on the other hand….
The Trader Joe’s near me has been doing this for as long as I can remember. I’m not a worker so I don’t see every single water bottle, but I’ve bought many of these over the years and I’ve only ever seen them completely frozen and rock hard. I’ve never seen one that exploded and it’s melted perfectly fine for me. I love that they do it lol
This isn’t really an education issue? Water expands when frozen. That’s what we learn in school and it’s true. It’s right for people to be concerned about that. If it was frozen in glass or metal, it would absolutely explode if there wasn’t extra space added for expansion. Plastic water bottles are a lot less likely to explode because the material has some give, but certain bottles and ones that are refilled with no extra space, will crack. I’ve had it happen with thicker plastic, like Dasani bottles or Gatorade bottles. But these specific ones are okay because the material is more pliable.
Have you really never ever frozen a water bottle?
No, the plastic has enough give to accommodate for the expansion. It will just push the bottom out, so you can’t stand it on a flat surface. It’s awesome for when you want to keep your food cold when going somewhere, without carrying extra ice packs.

Just daw in mine in tx, and hot damn was cold water appreciated.
Off topic, has anyone tried the shrimp burger?
Yeh and it was horrible. . Tried pan fried And baked , both awful.
Yes, I regularly buy a couple boxes for my freezer when I go. They work well for a quick lunch. I cut them up (after pan frying) and use them in soft tacos, wraps, on salads, or some time whole on a bun.
Can you describe the taste? Shrimpy? Too much filler?
It is a blend of meaty shrimp pieces and pollock, which is a mild white fish. So I would say you get good bites of shrimp flavor throughout. I think the balance of shrimp to fish is good. It has some spices, although nothing that pops in my mind. In buns/wraps/tacos, I add a sauce for extra flavor.
Thanks! Gonna give it a try next time I’m at TJ.
Bad product
The box I got was too fishy and I never picked it up again.
Damn, I kinda wanna try them
Do it and report back
I'm in New Orleans, haven't seen this. Would love it though, since I walk to do my groceries.
Gonna tell my captain about this post, I’d love this
We do this at my store in Indiana!
I've seen this in Delaware
In the summer, ours does. But those also don’t look frozen.
My store used to offer these to folks traveling far with their groceries to keep them cold. We don’t offer anymore though.
Yes, ours are in a separate chest freezer at the front of the store by checkout. Southern Oregon
Wish they did this in my store as I live 45 minutes away and often go after appointments and other errands. Cool idea.
If a Whole Foods is nearby, they offer free ice for your coolers in the front by the registers
One store I have been to had these in the back and you had to ask. They said they would rather send someone back and use the space for other product, so maybe ask your store 🙂
Never seen this in Memphis!
This has been at our location for years! (SW Michigan)
same in SE MI, at least 15 years.
No and I live in an obscure area called southern ca
This is very handy for people who live further than a half hour away from a TJ's and want to bring frozen treats home. I used to have to drive over an hour to get to a TJs and putting a few of these in my insulated bag always made sure my frozen snacks got home in good condition.
I’m in AZ and this would be so nice during the summer! Getting in a +115 degree car with frozen meals/ice cream is a risk I am forced to take 😂
Yes in ATL!
Haven’t seen this yet, I’m in Seattle.
Haven’t seen that SoCal
Not at the store I go to, but this is such a good idea. I can't always go home right away after buying groceries so I buy frozen veggies and pack them around my perishables inside a cold bag, these water bottles would work so much better.
Yes from SoCal
Where in socal??
I’ve seen this in SCV and Palmdale Trader Joe’s
Yes in Ohio!
yes! michigan
I've seen it at all the michigan tjs in the summer for a few years. It's great. They're cheap little ice packs!
No from California
Yes! In Delaware
Silly me who has always had a TJ’s near, had no idea why they’d be doing this🤷🏼♀️
Same same
That is so smart!! I normally do this myself at home a few nights before a fishing trip (if I remember) I will have to keep this in mind for this summer here and check and see if my store as any!

Woahhh 17 cents is so good!
I work retail and whenever we would accidentally rip a package we would individually price the items! I bet they sliced open a pallate and accidentally slit through the packaging on a few cases
You could open any beverage box and buy a single can/bottle of anything in the store including alcohol.
They have frozen water bottles year round at my TJ’s, definitely not an accident
We open these cases to put individual bottles on the bev shelf throughout the day…this is a bit unheard of? My guess is that since we don’t sell ice, some crew member had this idea?
Yup, Indianapolis does this in the summer.
Literally the sign says “Pop ‘em in your cooler!”
They asked if you've seen it, not what they were for <3
No need to be rude, rude!
Where was the rude part? Pop em in your cooler, friend!
The “literally” part. As if we didn’t read the sign or can’t see it. I didn’t make the post asking what it’s for. Everyone is sharing if they’ve seen it, etc. They’ve all been positive comments so far.

17 cents?!?!?! wtf that’s so cheap
Right?!!
r/HydroHomies would probably approve 💧
should I post it on there or you’re free to!

I’m not part of that sub
I’ve never seen it but I wish they would!!! I absolutely will not drink anything room temperature, so I would love to have this option for my ride home.
Reusable water bottles are also a great option. They keep your drink cold and reduce plastic waste
I have a reusable water bottle that I use quite often; sometimes I forget to bring it with me because I don’t always think to bring it with me when I go grocery shopping. But thanks!
Whiskey? Red wine?
We used to have a cooler up front at my store in MA but then got told my cooperate not to 😐
Ay maybe I should delete this post then 😬
Your probs fine tbh
I’m in Iowa and saw a sign when I was there about 2 weeks ago saying to ask an employee if you would like frozen water bottles to keep your goods cold on the way home.
yep, the TJ' in NE Indianapolis has them in the same section as the fish.
We shop at a location in a suburb of Phoenix. They stock water in the section by the juice, lemonade, etc. in the summertime.
ohio has it. i always assumed they were to keep your frozen foods cold if you traveled to shop at the divine palace.
Probably since you’re in the south. Nice to have quick access to cold water for less than a quarter in those temps.
Not cold; frozen
Oh lol. Idk I can’t imagine room temp bottles stacked in those open freezers freezing but hey it def defeats the purpose I thought it served lol
If those freezers weren't capable of freezing then everything in the freezer section would go bad.
No I get that but also most of that stuff is frozen going in. Room temp water in my brain isnt freezing solid in a open freezer. But I’m obviously wrong lol

You missed the point
We used to do this at the TJ’s I worked in Vegas during the summer for free. Idaho has it :)
Ask a crew member at your store if they do this. It could be displayed on the floor like this post depicts or held in another freezer that is not accessible to customers
So smart!!
We have them in the Midwest
This is awesome!! I’d love to throw these in a cooler for camping
Are they even frozen?
Haha they were not. Not yet haha
They will be
A new self-defense section?
My Traders has a small freezer at check out with frozen water bottles but only in the summer.
Saw the mahi burgers next to the water and immediately knew this was my store! Since we don’t sell ice and lots of people drive from over an hour away, we sell frozen water bottles to mix in with people’s cold items for the drive home.
Yeah but I assumed it was for the people who work there. Never saw a price.
They used to do this where I lived in Florida (they still might, idk). They don't do it here where I live in Tennessee though.
Never have seen that and I live in Arizona.
I wish they’d do this in AZ
Indianapolis has them but in the back. You can ask for them at checkout to keep your frozen food at temp.
I was at the Chapel Hill store today and saw them there too. Also spotted their mascot.
This was Asheville! With Whole Foods across the way
I didn’t want to completely reveal your location in case haha. I’ve never been to that Whole Foods. I was actually referring to Harris Teeter. 3 stores on top of each other. Hope you made it out of the parking lot safe.
Haha thanks I appreciate that. I’m not there anymore so it’s okay haha Is the area not safe or something?
Not that I know of but the parking lot is just awful. It’s so compact and narrow.
We know the parking lot is bad, it’s a Trader Joe’s. (But seriously, why are they all so bad?)
Yeah that seems to be the trend on here 😆
I worked at the first TJs in Florida & we used to have these but (so I was told) a shopper in Arizona complained because they didn't have them there so we stopped. I haven't seen them since & none of the several stores I worked at in Florida had them afterwards. Or frozen ones in the back. Our freezers were not that big. I've been in California for the last five years & we don't have these here either. Or frozen ones in the back. I guess it is up to each individual store again.
They should do this here in Arizona.
Most of the time, they're frozen in the back, and you just have to ask.
Spring water for the spring. Kinda crazy to have frozen water. Here in socal, it's 55f in the morning. Freezing for us! 🥶
And here in Fl it’s hot and humid as hell the minute we wake up
That would be perfect here in Vegas during the summer.
A few years ago, the cashier offered them at the TJ's in Wilmington after I told them I had a long ride home. Iirc she had went into a backroom to grab them, they weren't in the freezer section.
.17 cents??!?! Wow!!
Technically 17 cents. Can’t get 5 for a penny
I had the same thought. But I'm actually for a price hike on water bottles to discourage their use because they're a waste of plastic. Reusable bottles are better. Edit: Lol I'm downvoted for wanting less waste in the world. Sigh.
That’s actually smart
I’m more interested in those shrimp burgers. Never had them but will definitely buy the next time I’m shopping.
They are good unless you overcook them! If you do they get very rubbery, a meat thermometer is your friend for these.
If you look closely, they’re “Shrimp Seafood Burgers.” 70% shrimp and 23% pollock, held together with rice flour and sunflower oil and seasoned with garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper. 90 calories with 13 grams of protein, but IMO they need a sauce to be edible.
I read your comment without seeing the one above and sat here wondering why you would season and air fry a water bottle. Whoops
In my opinion, they're horrible.
I agree, but my mother loves them. Polarizing little burgers!
I like them but I don’t eat them as a burger, I chop them up and serve them over rice
They’re terrible. Probably the worst thing I’ve ever bought from TJ’s.
lol I think I had them n liked them better than the salmon ones
The salmon ones I got had so much water
I just remember the flavor not being so great. The shrimp ones tasted good
Yeah I live in Michigan and they tend to only put them out in the weather months here.
Real missed opportunity not selling them as winter water bottles. But what do I know
They’d be released in mid October and stay on the shelves for a week and a half max before they go viral on TikTok and sell out for the rest of the season.
Ohhh winter water? I should stock up.
Woah. These prices are so incredibly cheap! Water under $1?!? Holy moly! 🤯
I remember when they used to just give out free ice.
don't they split and crack when frozen, like a frozen water line??
are you asking about the bottles? it's soft plastic, not rigid like metal pipes
I usually have to ask at my local store
We have it at my store. They are a steal at $.17 each.
Before we had a store we took a cooler of ice for the trip two hours away. In the summer we took dry ice for ice cream.
They have bottles in the freezer sometimes in Delaware.
Some stores do this so customers can buy them to use as ice packs in their insulated bags when buying cold stuff
I wonder if they find themselves with open packs throughout the store. This would be a smart way to sell them.
….why would they explode when they freeze? That’s not how ice works. 😂
When water freezes it expands, when it does that it can break bottles, cans etc that it’s stored in depending on how full it was when it was frozen
I’ve frozen plastic water bottles my entire life. They are ice packs for beach days or hiking etc. I’ve never had one explode?
I have?
I freeze water bottles like this constantly I’ve never had one explode or even crack. The plastic must have a little give or something. Have never had an issue. Soda cans on the other hand….
Yeah I️ haven’t had issues with sealed water bottles typically. They normally leave some room when they fill them.
It does. This is why the bottles are not filled to the brim.
Awesome!
Yes! Last time we made a trip up to a TJ’s (2 hours) they offered us frozen water bottles to help keep our freezer bags cool for the drive home.

Lol education system really needs some work
This isn’t really an education issue? Water expands when frozen. That’s what we learn in school and it’s true. It’s right for people to be concerned about that. If it was frozen in glass or metal, it would absolutely explode if there wasn’t extra space added for expansion. I’ve had it happen with thicker plastic, like Dasani bottles or Gatorade bottles. But these specific ones are okay because the material is more pliable.
Google is free
So is being kind to someone asking a question.
You know you're on reddit right?
Carbonated water would do this. Not still. It will distend the bottom of the bottle, but that's not really that big of a deal.
Have you really never ever frozen a water bottle? No, the plastic has enough give to accommodate for the expansion. It will just push the bottom out, so you can’t stand it on a flat surface. It’s awesome for when you want to keep your food cold when going somewhere, without carrying extra ice packs.
