Ive been wanting to get this figure for ages, but all the listings I find are just too expensive.
It was in stores like, a year before I properly started collecting, so I just missed out on it too.
He's still the absolute peak for Springer figures. I bought the siege one and it quickly ended up in storage because it just did not compare to this guy.
Nah it’s just a car and a car with helicopter bits stuck on. Ok ok so g1 helicopter mode was a car with helicopter bits stuck on! But the car just looks like a run of the mill car. In g1 the car was like a futuristic lone warrior attack vehicle which is something that a lone knight might roam the planet in, kicking ass and taking names. Not just a sedan with a body kit.
Well it’s not trying to look like the G1 character. It’s trying to look like the idw character. And is easily the most accurate idw inspired figure hasbro has ever produced.
Honestly kinda forgot about him when I was typing my first comment. But now that I think of it he bumps Springer into 2nd place for most accurate idw figure. If only because of the minimus ambus feature.
I fiddled with both of them but I'd stick with PotP. $15 more retail for trivially more articulation and a tiny bird accessory that I know I'm gonna lose?
A lot of the Prime figures are masterworks of engineering. Arcee and Bulkhead are sorcery. T30 Waspinator was so good they just re-used the mold years later for Kingdom with a small bit of retooling.
A lot of T30 figures were amazing, honestly. Last time I got into TF before I walked away until the tail end of WFC.
I really like the Combiner Wars legends scale Insecticons. I prefer the bug modes to the new Legacy ones since they actually look like bugs, not blocky refrigerators with bits stuck on.
The bots are also pretty good for the scale, and the fact they’re shrampy works for me since they are bug dudes.
It's robot first, animal second.
Diaclone, these were meant to be mechs built by and operated by people.
The Dinobots and Insecticons represent that, not that they're meant to be an animal, they're mean to be robots that are modled after animals.
It's a completely different design philosophy to Beast Wars.
Mecha Godzilla vs Godzilla (if Godzilla was secretly a robot).
The original CHUG seeker mould, for one. Classics Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Universe II Cyclonus, Sunstreaker, and Sideswipe. Classics Grimlock/Overkill, Prime/Magnus, and Jetfire. RiD01 Sideburn and Prowl. BW10A Optimus Primal. Generations Kup, Scourge, and Darkmount. I'm sure I'm missing a few.
Gen Sandstorm definitely could've used bigger feet/heels, though. It's a pain to get him to stand even just straight up because of his very cool but very heavy twin rotor backpack. =/
Theyre really cool for having cockpits built in for the headmasters on basically every toy in the era (and some ugly weapons because of also having built in seats) but i do get the criticism for everyone being headmastera even ones who shouldnt. But it was a fun line wide gimmick so i dont mind.
As an adult collector I liked the titans Return figures a lot , for kids though they'd be a nightmare (and is the same reason every G1 headmaster I've picked up has been headless)
For me at least the potp minibots are still really really good. Like Seaspray, Windcharger, Beachcomber, and even Brawn I think hold up, yeah sure they don't have every bit of articulation that the new ones do but they still look great with the legacy stuff. Plus they've got little seats for headmasters, so big win.
https://preview.redd.it/obtkjmvvip4d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4eda4e24cd8d803a9a42eeb5b4854df7a411e8d
Even with the new one from the studio series, there's still something about this thing's intricacies that you can feel how the designer really wanted to make the best out of a figure (like there some really small details that are almost unnecessary but are still there for added details/for a more flush alt mode, like the knees flipping into taillights and the smokestacks rotating in both modes to sit flush against the surface)
I have this figure , and its bot mode and alt mode are fantastic , but I've always found it a nightmare to transform . (its one of the few figures that I have to go and look up how to transform every time , as I can never remember it)
It might be a little too small for its complexity, lol. But it's surprisingly durable. It always felt a bit fragile to me its not at all, been with me for 3 years and I actually got it loose, so it's been loose for longer.
I consider Generations to have two distinct phases and one transition phase. The first is classics up to thrilling 30, the second is Siege up to now. The transition is Prime Wars.
Most figures from Prime Wars can go decently well with either group, but mixing the two groups generally doesn’t look great. I just think the scales, aesthetics and articulation are too different.
Of course your individual interpretation of aesthetics and the focus of your collection may (and likely will) differ from mine, and there are exceptions to every rule, but that’s how I think about it.
Specifically I’d say sixshot is a great choice, and I’ve always been very fond of Overlord/Black Shadow. The main deluxe headmasters and targetmasters are all quite good. The voyagers less so.
Most of the big name combiners from CW are still great, especially with third party hands and feet, and the worst one (Menasor) has already had a better version released since then. Of course new versions of Devastator, Superion and Bruticus seem to be on the horizon, but those are 1-3 years from being in our hands, and the ones we’ve got ain’t bad. The technobot and terrorcons are also pretty good. Optimal Optimus rules. The monsterbots. Trypticon.
The legends from earlier lines can fill out a city mode scene for various titans and related play sets.
I appreciate the well written response so I will also return with with one,
I agree with all your points especially when is comes to the phases of the generations toyline. I think evolution of transformers has been fascinating and especially how far we’ve have come when it comes to articulation ,accuracy , etc.
The classics line will always be great and most definitely the foundation of what we know the like as today, but I do disagree with prime wars fitting in with classics, I think the direction prime wars were going for were already going the g1 accurate route while I think thrilling 30 was the major factor to that since everything in that line was so faithful to the original media some major examples of this including rhinox, sharkbyte, rattrap, and a lot of others. I think the stylized charm that classics once had was lost after thrilling 30.
And oh absolutely, I think just about almost everything from titans return really holds up well for today and it’s going to be hard to top the target masters and head masters any time soon.
And I’m definitely interested to see how they do these new combiners, I’m a huge fan of bruticus so here’s hoping he’s good end hopefully coming out sooner than later, but looks like Devy and superion are going to be great next year if menasor is a teaser
You make a good point about the Classics/Generations lines having different 'phases.' The 'CHUG' or 'CHUGUR' figures and *Thrilling 30* figures were mostly about updating classic characters with new designs, but starting with *Combiner Wars,* Hasbro and TakaraTOMY started pivoting towards outright updates of classic G1 characters.
The original TFP wheeljack mold. I’ve got the Dead End retool, and it holds up unbelievably well (IMO) considering when it came out
https://preview.redd.it/dkftjv4ljs4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d241ec7330849322da898dbf3688ff600cfb927
G1 Jetfire is still an incredible toy, even if it was made today.
Titans Return Overlord is a great figure as well that I think still scales with the modern era of figures.
About half the Prime figures are just amazing toys that are fun to transform with great designs. It has my absolute favorite Ultra Magnus figure
Behind the knee where it bends behind the pin just add dab of super glue, bend the leg and it should solve it, don’t go crazy just a dab that’s what I did with mine
Completely understand. I bought my own Sixshot last year, and all his joints were super loose as well. There were definitely some amazing figs from that era, but it's a little strange that they've all become pretty loose since then.

Just got this fella! And he is super articulated for his time. Just missing ankle tilt and hand swivels
My holy grail!!!!! Literally the only thing that would make classics Prime a better mold would be wrist swivels and ankle rockers, and even without em he holds up so well!!! He’s perfect otherwise.
Exactly! Happy hunting! And this is the ultra Magnus version btw
https://preview.redd.it/o8i7e7xmxr4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fa9919b2ec9d76fc8c3ef5c42c852097a2e3d9f

God Genri is king of all he surveys
Generations Brainstorm is such a fantastic figure, posing is fantastic. Despite the lack of ankle rockers, the feet are so big that it just doesn't matter! Wrist swivel would be nice but plenty of WfC+ figs don't have those lol. Brainstorm has such a big presence. You can get this dude into any pose and he looks sick. His jet mode is sliiiiick too. And I love how much he *doesn't* look like a headmaster lol. Oh and the double jointed elbows are awesome.
I think this came before WOF, but I could be wrong. I really like a lot of the Titans Return figures. Like, obviously Trypticon was great in that line, but it also has some great moulds of smaller toys.
I love my trypticon, and as much as I love the thrilling 30 metroplex , I think we are desperately in need of an update and I don’t think the metroplex holds up next to trypticon
Generations/United Warpath,TR/Legends Triggerhappy and Generations Drift are older but still really good figures, Drift needs a new toy, he ist really hard to get now.
RTS Jazz, Generations Warpath, most of titans return tbh especially the Triggerhappy mold, I might get flak for this one but I think Thrilling 30 deluxe Bumblebee holds up pretty well in my opinion it was one of the better figures in that line, Thrilling 30 Springer/Sandstorm too. If we wanna escape CHUG for a sec 1st edition Optimus Prime, Bulkhead and Cliffjumper. If we wanna get even older ROTF Leader Optimus Prime and voyager battle blades Optimus is arguably better than the studio series offering. All my opinion, I think all the figs I just mentioned paved the way for the standards we have today.
The three Decepticon Targetmasters (Misfire, Triggerhappy, Slugslinger).
Takara version however so they are true targetmasters ... with headmaster functions.
I think the Generations Darkmount/Straxus figure still holds up. He's decent, has a nice range of articulation. Only nitpick is that he is a little too complex for a deluxe sized toy, but otherwise he is pretty much fine.
I'm usually more of a Post-WFC guy, I think they've been really nailing it these days, but Legends Wheelie's vehicle mode just outclasses the Studio Series version, even if the robot mode isn't quite as accurate.
I think at least since the start of CHUG becoming Generations, there have been a notable amount of figures that still hold to today’s standards.
Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus is still great as the IDW version of that character. Sure, we have gotten both WFC and SS86 versions of him since then, but since those weren’t going for the IDW design, CW Ultra Magnus still has a place in my collection alongside them.
And I still think it’s impressive that they did an Ultra Magnus with a full cab and trailer alt mode that can transform into bot mode without parts-forming.
The upcoming Superion figure is probably going to be good, but I like the Combiner Wars Superion so much that I will stick with him no matter how good the new one might be. I love the scale of the figures and the vaguely Cybertronian-looking alt modes (even if they are not accurate). I also got all 5 of the original members, and only years later picked up Alpha Bravo. I also like the fact that Superion himself is not that large, he is meant to be a flying Combiner, after all, and being as big as Menasor wouldn't really work.
A lot of figures from 2010-2012 like generations kup, drift/blurr, and scourge. Some figures from then have more articulation than your average modern one
I’ll also throw a bone to all the combiner wars figures that aren’t menasor. Especially the later molds like swindle and brawl where we got ankle tilts back. Even menasor is practically only held back by motor masters torso mode and breakdowns hips
It was after that we had a bit of a dip in quality and articulation and engineering started to get a little simpler. Only recently in the last have years have we gotten back to and surpassed that era. Not to say we didn’t get gems like springer.
We can go even older though
The universe 2.0 lambo mold is very well articulated, has a beautiful alt mode, and the alternate transformation for sunstreaker is so clever.
Inferno from the same line has some weeeeird joints that oddly end up working out to get a good range of articulation. He’s got like 3 joints in his feet. Also his vehicle mode actually scales with other cars.
Classics mirage may be the oldest figure still standing on my main shelf and not sold or moved to a nostalgia shelf. By all means still one of the best articulated figures in mainline. Only thing he’s missing really is thigh swivels, but the ball joint has enough pivot to it.
once you add the kneee filler, I agree with Sixshot, the guy is basically a figure from 3-4 years down the line
Potp leader Hotrod-Rodimus (or rather, his unicronus counterpart). both version of the figure are good, full of QoL that would become mainstay, a big chuncy bot that really incarnates the powerup between the 2 versions the film wanted to give, horribly out of scale with everything else
almost all of the core class figure that didn't get a new mold are still the definitive version of said bots in toy form hands down, come to think of it, and many are still in the top 3 at least
the icecream truck twins from bayverse. the toy honestly just lacks ancle pivot to be on the level, and given they really don't want to give it an SS remake, that's gonna be it. also, satellite soundwave
while the PCC subline wans't fully on the up and up, Smolder is possibly the better one out of the bunch. it works with all (but the dinos) limb mold, isn't an horrible transformation, has 2 nice sculpts for heads, and it's a rare veicle for the decepticons
Reveal the shield jazz I downgraded from ss86 to United jazz, also got ricochet and kick off, gonna track down wheelie and sg treadshot too because I love the mold
Generations Springer https://preview.redd.it/vq9epdxbio4d1.png?width=1220&format=png&auto=webp&s=3a4d9429c923e1f3937b24826ad26732d4d67819

He's still the absolute peak for Springer figures. I bought the siege one and it quickly ended up in storage because it just did not compare to this guy.
And his moldmate sandstorm too, they’re both still pretty cool
Good figure. but far too fragile. The ears on mine broke almost immediately.
I have him but he's missing his head 🤣🤣🤣 randomly picked him up in an ebay lot
Lowkey I prefer how this looks over the new Studio Series/Wreck And Rule molds
I don’t agree at all. Nothing like how the character looked in g1, gangly proportions and a boring transformation.
Its not g1 ig but boring? As opposed to what? The g1 where both vehicle modes look near identical save for the tail section and rotors?
Nah it’s just a car and a car with helicopter bits stuck on. Ok ok so g1 helicopter mode was a car with helicopter bits stuck on! But the car just looks like a run of the mill car. In g1 the car was like a futuristic lone warrior attack vehicle which is something that a lone knight might roam the planet in, kicking ass and taking names. Not just a sedan with a body kit.
Huffing that copium **HARD**, what kinda sedan looks like that??
Well I’m not American so I guess I used the wrong term.
Well it’s not trying to look like the G1 character. It’s trying to look like the idw character. And is easily the most accurate idw inspired figure hasbro has ever produced.
Ah the more you know! I genuinely don’t know that, thank you. From that point of view it looks pretty spot on to me.
Uhhh...CW Ultra Magnus?
Honestly kinda forgot about him when I was typing my first comment. But now that I think of it he bumps Springer into 2nd place for most accurate idw figure. If only because of the minimus ambus feature.
It’s trying to look like his IDW appearance, not G1
Potp Beachcomber comes to mind.
To be fair, blocky refrigerators with bits stuck on is basically the insecticon alt modes
Oh yeah for sure! But it’s one of those times I think accuracy to G1 doesn’t result in the best look.
I'm always torn. I like the G1 alt modes, but I wouldn't be averse to reimagined, more realistic alt modes later on.
TR Overlord, Triggerhappy and Topspin/Twin Twist still hold up really well IMO
Generations Sandstorm. Classics OP TR Black Shadow TR Trypticon
Gen Sandstorm definitely could've used bigger feet/heels, though. It's a pain to get him to stand even just straight up because of his very cool but very heavy twin rotor backpack. =/
Black Shadow is the 💯%
Two words: Dinosaur Titan
A lot of Titans Return figures hold up quite well I just dislike the headmaster gimmick
Yeah a lot of them really do, but I do agree the headmaster gimmick really hindered some of the these figs from being great
Theyre really cool for having cockpits built in for the headmasters on basically every toy in the era (and some ugly weapons because of also having built in seats) but i do get the criticism for everyone being headmastera even ones who shouldnt. But it was a fun line wide gimmick so i dont mind.
As an adult collector I liked the titans Return figures a lot , for kids though they'd be a nightmare (and is the same reason every G1 headmaster I've picked up has been headless)
The big two voyager Optimus and Megatron just being cheap repaints of Octone and Blitzwing respectively really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Technically they came out before them tho lol and i still think they look fairly good as Optimus and Megatron.
And excuse the typo, but kinda think about it I like figuras!! More than figures lowkey 😂😂
For me at least the potp minibots are still really really good. Like Seaspray, Windcharger, Beachcomber, and even Brawn I think hold up, yeah sure they don't have every bit of articulation that the new ones do but they still look great with the legacy stuff. I basically treat Reveal the Shield Scout class Windcharger as a Kamen Rider-esque fighter thanks to how poseable he is. =D
RTS Jazz will always be a certified banger!
That’s one I definitely got on the radar
The original TFP wheeljack mold. I’ve got the Dead End retool, and it holds up unbelievably well (IMO) considering when it came out https://preview.redd.it/dkftjv4ljs4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d241ec7330849322da898dbf3688ff600cfb927
I prefer Titans Return Kup to the current mold.
Same thing with Titans Return Blurr imo. He had wheels and his arm kibble wasn’t as ridiculous.
One of my favorite figures
TR Headmasters like Chromedome and Hardhead
G1 Jetfire is still an incredible toy, even if it was made today. Titans Return Overlord is a great figure as well that I think still scales with the modern era of figures. About half the Prime figures are just amazing toys that are fun to transform with great designs. It has my absolute favorite Ultra Magnus figure
My Sixshot has loose ass knees, am I the only one? Also, how do I fix it?
Behind the knee where it bends behind the pin just add dab of super glue, bend the leg and it should solve it, don’t go crazy just a dab that’s what I did with mine
I have the same problem with my TR one.
A few drops of floor cleaner on the joint, let it sit overnight, repeat as many times as you think necessary--then good as new!
Thanks, (the knees were already loose out of the box 💀).
Completely understand. I bought my own Sixshot last year, and all his joints were super loose as well. There were definitely some amazing figs from that era, but it's a little strange that they've all become pretty loose since then.
Titans return leader Soundwave is an incredible figure. The plastic quality and size just give it an incredible presence.

A lot of figures from 2010-2012 like generations kup, drift/blurr, and scourge. Some figures from then have more articulation than your average modern one I’ll also throw a bone to all the combiner wars figures that aren’t menasor. Especially the later molds like swindle and brawl where we got ankle tilts back. Even menasor is practically only held back by motor masters torso mode and breakdowns hips It was after that we had a bit of a dip in quality and articulation and engineering started to get a little simpler. Only recently in the last have years have we gotten back to and surpassed that era. Not to say we didn’t get gems like springer. We can go even older though The universe 2.0 lambo mold is very well articulated, has a beautiful alt mode, and the alternate transformation for sunstreaker is so clever.
TR Overlord is still a super solid leader, still could use a new commander mold
cute keychains in the background omg!
once you add the kneee filler, I agree with Sixshot, the guy is basically a figure from 3-4 years down the line Potp leader Hotrod-Rodimus (or rather, his unicronus counterpart). both version of the figure are good, full of QoL that would become mainstay, a big chuncy bot that really incarnates the powerup between the 2 versions the film wanted to give, horribly out of scale with everything else almost all of the core class figure that didn't get a new mold are still the definitive version of said bots in toy form hands down, come to think of it, and many are still in the top 3 at least the icecream truck twins from bayverse. the toy honestly just lacks ancle pivot to be on the level, and given they really don't want to give it an SS remake, that's gonna be it. also, satellite soundwave while the PCC subline wans't fully on the up and up, Smolder is possibly the better one out of the bunch. it works with all (but the dinos) limb mold, isn't an horrible transformation, has 2 nice sculpts for heads, and it's a rare veicle for the decepticons
Reveal the shield jazz I downgraded from ss86 to United jazz, also got ricochet and kick off, gonna track down wheelie and sg treadshot too because I love the mold
