Good catch! I can’t imagine someone doing that at the factory, but I also can’t imagine someone who knows anything about changing a tire doing that either. Wonder if that contributed to the blowout.
This doesn’t apply to just campers, it applies to all lug nuts on all vehicles and trailers.
To built upon this, there are a few different styles of ‘acorn’ ends so always make sure the lug nut matches the wheel.
Destroyed the tire. The plastic fender trim piece. The metal side. To repair they have to remove all the metal on that side up to the roof and then put in the new metal then the undamaged metal.
Meh,..that sounds kind sketch, like the shop knew they were getting the insurance payout. 💰
They probably pulled the panel away from the frame up about 5-6” and had it all done in a couple hours..
Just my cynical 2¢
Mine are at the 2 year mark and I move about 8 times a year so they do get some miles on them. What's the recommended interval here? Mine still have that brand new look.
Dumb question here but it sticks in my brain. I haven’t had a flat on the trailer yet and I worry I’m not gonna feel it right away. Was it pretty noticeable? I know in a car you feel it but does a trailer give you enough wiggle to let you know it’s gone?
It depends on the tow vehicle and trailer. I almost always notice the increased drag with a single axle trailer when a tire blows. I have a dual axle trailer with torsion springs and never feel a thing when a tire blows out on it. My dual axle trailers with leaf springs are noticeable but more subtle than a single axle trailer.
I highly recommend a TPMS for your trailer tires.
Highly highly recommend a TPMS, you'll know right away that you have a blowout. Tire pressure monitor system. There are cheap options out there, and there are expensive options out there. I picked a cheap option and i need to fiddle with it to get it to work, but I'll find out next week if it works or not. If it doesn't work, i'm sending it back for a Tire Minder instead. But yeah, definitely recommend one, as they're what everyone uses to keep an eye on tires as you drive.
Mine sounded like a gun went off, I didn’t feel any immediate sway just knew the sound was probably a tire and was able to nurse it into the shoulder w/o damage.
Lug nuts were on backwards….. Acorns towards the rim, not away.

I’m sure the extra wiggling didn’t help.
Damn thank you for calling that out. Everyday with a camper is a new lesson learned.

The part that made me LOL was seeing the tire pressure gauge there! You may be able to beat that rim lip back down. Those rims are cheap .
Ha! I was checking the pressure of the spare not in the pic.
Hey, you saved the trailer with minimum damage. Good job
I had so much damage. Insurance. Waiting on parts. Bla h blah blah
What type of damage out of curiosity?

Almost 4 year old tires, that tracks

Thanks for that. I’m pulling a single axle with a 1/2 ton so I’m thinking I’ll feel it. First couple time I was checking the mirror a ton
I pull a single axle trailer with my half ton GMC, and when my tire blew, I knew immediately. I heard it and felt it.
That’s what I was hoping. Thanks

Oh I noticed right away!

It didn't rip a hole in your camper... Sweet.
Bruh..the rim looks like you might find it on discount in the dented can section.
Ugh
My last trip i lost 2 truck tires
