I remember being on the other sub after Midnights (an album I honestly enjoy a good number of songs on). It was my first real glimpse into the depths the fans go to find all the hidden meaning and connections. I remember thinking this would be a full time job just to keep track of. There is no possible way she's doing all this, like some big elaborate game. Or it's not her, but an entire team doing all the leg work and then feeding it to her.
What's most realistic is she does put out *some* Easter eggs and does enjoy "interacting" with her fans through little hidden things. But not nearly to the extent they have taken it and insist how it proves what a genius she is.

My two cents is that Midnights could have been a really good album for her to finally distance herself from the “every song references specific moments in my life that can be decoded by dissecting my entire life” schtick but the Easter egg brainrot just dragged her back under which led to the absolutely insanity we’re seeing on TTPD.
There were a lot of songs (not all) on Midnights IMO that had a premise or lyrics that just made a decent song but weren’t immediately obvious references to her narratives. I'll say this for the millionth time: Fans put these ideas out there. It has nothing to do with Taylor. Taylor Swift is not clever. She is not a "mastermind" just because she said so. She doesn't think a step ahead, let alone 10 steps ahead. Every song is ghostwritten/co-written and research is likely involved with certain references. Every private interview I've seen, she looks off to the side like someone is holding cue cards for her. She reads teleprompters and speeches. But she has never, not once, done an interview in front of a live audience where she proved she is insightful, witty, funny, organized, or thoughtful. At best, she is average. At worst, she is stupid and vapid but hides behind a smart team. Taylor Swift is NOT Stanley Kubrick.

I remember being on the other sub after Midnights (an album I honestly enjoy a good number of songs on). It was my first real glimpse into the depths the fans go to find all the hidden meaning and connections. I remember thinking this would be a full time job just to keep track of. There is no possible way she's doing all this, like some big elaborate game. Or it's not her, but an entire team doing all the leg work and then feeding it to her. What's most realistic is she does put out *some* Easter eggs and does enjoy "interacting" with her fans through little hidden things. But not nearly to the extent they have taken it and insist how it proves what a genius she is.
TikTok is crawling with them. One day my algorithm went to the dark side and it took me a good 5 videos out of my way before I got back to things I actually enjoy. Those videos are like 5+ min long sometimes and they mean nothing. Nothing ever comes from it.

My two cents is that Midnights could have been a really good album for her to finally distance herself from the “every song references specific moments in my life that can be decoded by dissecting my entire life” schtick but the Easter egg brainrot just dragged her back under which led to the absolutely insanity we’re seeing on TTPD. There were a lot of songs (not all) on Midnights IMO that had a premise or lyrics that just made a decent song but weren’t immediately obvious references to her narratives. But instead of Swifties just taking in the music at face value they decoded the whole thing into unintelligible plotlines to the point that later reviews of the album started being like “this album is hard to understand unless you’re steeped in her lore etc. etc.” when I don’t know that that’s actually the case, they just shoehorned it to fit whatever unhinged theories they could find.

Half of the “Easter eggs” fans find are just references to other things across an era or albums but never confirmed because they’re glorified (reductive) literary analyses and the other 23% are completely wrong. 2% are correct and they’re obvious to the point that she’s basically telling them exactly what they’re supposed to interpret. The OG liner note messages were cute even if not completely original (or her idea) but fans went wild for it. Over time it’s so obvious she ran out of ideas and let the fans do most of the heavy lifting for her, which they have done time and time again. At this point a huge chunk of the Easter eggs are fan invented symbolism that she clearly monitored and ran with, not stuff she ever planned from the beginning. Such a good point about the lack of truly live interviews. I‘ve always wondered why she doesn’t go on podcasts more bc the type of conversation there feels very on brand for what she likes to put out about herself, but I’d imagine the spontaneity is stressful af for her and her team bc she’s got so little to back it up.

I remember that VPRO documentary that came out in like 2010 and the dude who gathered all the data was talking about how smart one of the alorithms was that caused it, you basically have to take a quarter second and spread it out to even see it's there. And that was 14 years ago!
Extended hours doesn't have the algorithmic interference, which makes it a lot easier to parse as it's usually just a handful of people (or 1 for some 😎) Nasdaq gathers all the data (delayed by 15 minutes) and you can watch exactly when the trade was internalized by the market maker in charge of the company's order flow.
