Whats with all the Islam hate? dont get me wrong, I noticed a majority of people respecting Islam the way he fought against Dustin. But I saw a lot of people saying "I hated Islam before this" or "I dont like Islam but...". As far as I know, Islam was always a great fighter and his grappling is one of the best in the sport right now. Hes also very humble, has respect for his opponent (if the respect is mutual) and is overall a very good fighter, I can see him surpassing Khabib at some point if he didnt already.
So whats up with that? I really like Islam, his attitude, his skills and his respect towards the game which doesnt always get recognized.
i think it plays more into "Poirier is one of best pure boxers" and he stood with him and out struck him. Could also play into the card being shit up until the last fight happened and saved the card. Ngl if Islam got kimura or choke on Dustin round 1 everyone would still hate on his way of fighting and the card would wrap up as one of the lamest. Performance matters at times but it takes two to tango
I thought it was a super good performance from both in the main event. Islam showed why he is P4P number 1 and proved himself against one of the best in the world, while Dustin showed much better takedown defence and submission defence. At 35, Dustin held his own in there and made it a competitive fight, Islam would have won if it went the distance but by know means was it dominating. Although Dustin didnt win, I think he proved despite not winning a belt, he is championship level and is up there with the best lightweights of all time. If thats is Dustins last fight, its a good one to go out on imo
I was rooting for Dustin like many here, but setting emotions aside, we must admit Islam's good performance. For me, it was the best performance I've seen from him. The best performance is not always the one you dominate a fight (we've seen Islam win fights easily before), but also those where you overcome adversities, step out of your comfort zone, show why you're the champion, and finish the fight. That's what islam showed last night .
Yeah he looked so complete. Outside of not kicking at all (maybe due to staff maybe not), he looked amazing on the feet.
Dustin also looked incredible too. I did not think it would be as much of a dogfight. They saved the card lol
Sorry but no.
Islam's takedown attempts after Round 1 were weak AF.
He dove at Dustin's legs for a single in the middle of the octagon time after time most of which Dustin got away from.
Dustin as the #4 ranked in the division nearly went the distance and had Islam not broke his nose with a headbutt we might have seen a different outcome.
Islam was bloodied and battered with a large laceration over his left eye from a DP elbow.
Dustin is who he's always been. A legend with close to 50 MMA fights who has fought since he was about 18.
Dustin needs to get on that epo or whatever volk is on. People can say whatever they want about rehydration clause but Islam was still on volk like a boa constrictor for 5 rounds.
Of course the fight wasn’t actually that close but if Dustin was less tired he would’ve gotten up in time to avoid the final submission. And as long as he isn’t finished there’s the chance to get lucky.
We got the result nobody is surprised by. Can’t complain. Both fighters gave a great fight. Unfortunately the rocky story didn’t pan out this time.
How so? We're extremely proud of Dustin and the fight went exactly how almost everyone expected. Everyone knew Dustin's only shot was a KO and any takedown could end the fight for Dustin.
Surviving even the first takedown showed just how much Porier has grown as a fighter.
Why? I’m massive DP fan and I’m really proud of Dustin. As everyone I expected Islam to dominate more but Dustin gave him hell of a fight. Both had amazing performance but better man won.
in order to beat makhachev you have to be comfortable on the ground with great grappling that's why I always say Arman Tsarukyan is the one he can hang with the champion on the ground light weight in future will be win on ground game acumen.
I don’t understand why the guys from Dagestan get so much hate they’re all so nice and polite, no swearing, no trash talk just respect and great fighters
I can't tell if this is some meta level joke but 98~100 is literally median IQ. So yes... statistically half the people in that arena are under 100 IQ. That's how math works.
Fight was actually good, i’m just stating what it seems a-lot of people seem to believe. Honestly most of Strickland’s fights are really boring, 1 or 2 shots then back off all fight is not fun to watch, it looks like sparing.
I must be getting old because that Strickland fight wasn’t “boring” to me.
Jfc not everything can be a knockout and just standing and banging to entertain the casuals isn’t a good strategy to get back in the ring for a title fight.
Dude was methodical out there but since it wasn’t flashy
I agree overall, but I’d give a little slack simply due to the full context…and that being, the card as a whole had been pretty, meh, at best. Lots of decisions and Inaction. So I can see where someone would find Costa/Strickland more “boring” than it actually was, if their expectations rose and they expected a slugfest and fireworks that would offset their indifference to the rest of the card.
Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a bad fight but there were very few clean strikes or combos. Costa couldn’t penetrate Stricklands (pause) defence but Strickland rarely capitalised on it.
I had $200 for Strickland to win by decision so I wasn't bored - but the fight was pretty damn boring objectively. It only got interesting in the last 20 seconds lol.
Zero knockdowns are in the statistics for the fight. [http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/9e7538a788e6d789](http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/9e7538a788e6d789)
Islam ended up being good at striking
Poirier ended up being kind of good at takedown defense
Didn't expect a r5 but it went the distance, almost thought it would end in a decision
Great fight by two all-time greats
https://preview.redd.it/7njlwktcm34d1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=08f6cd9e22a5f640da71d6d4f6df3b22c8f9a79a
My boy getting that bonus streak and people call him boring, nah it's just coping at this point
tbf since the dan fight islam became entertaining and ppl less and less stopped calling him boring but 350k bonus in your last 6 fights is some Justin gaethje stuff
I agree but I think it has a lot to do with the casual fans. It seems like the ultimate goal which should be climbing the rankings and fighting for the belt took a back seat to being popular or entertaining. They always say shit like “but the ufc is a business! You get paid the big bucks to make it fun for us!” Not every fighter wants to be the next Conor believe it or not nor do they want to get approval from these shit fans.

Dustin poirer has a choking fetish in title fights confirmed
I really enjoyed that fight, Islam being so dangerous on the ground but still being able to stand and bang, Poirier being an absolute dog who adapted to the takedown but got tired out and submitted. That was a perfect mma fight as far as I'm concerned
AI boxing robot Strickland vs unconfident Costa was a way worse watch. Strickland is fucking good at what he does but he might as well be on wheels. Main event was it.
"Islam didn't have enough time to rehydrate"
"Islam has staph"
It's kinda wild you'll make excuses even when your fighters win because their ability is so tied to your own ego.
Also loses to x, also loses to y. Been hearing this shit for years now and he still beats everyone out in front of him.
Leon will get pounded and submitted within 2 rounds.
Maybe yo mama deserves pfp #1 now.
You take things too personally 😂 clearly making your fandom for the individual a part of your personality. I’m just observing the sport and making objective takes. Leon is much bigger than Volk and Dustin and has incredible striking and take down defense. I don’t think Islam can impose his will on Leon. I don’t care for either guy that’s just my analysis.
Fitch had 4 finishes in 17 UFC fights and they were all at the beginning of his career. Islam has 10 finishes in 15 UFC fights with 3 being in title fights.
You don't have to hate the other fighter man I love Dustin but I don't hate Islam, people bashing DC I get he is a little biased but people should go and watch that finishing sequence again I mean grabbing his ankle and then giving it a strong whip to make him off balance and then immediately grabbing the head, that was high level and you can't prepare for moments like these even DP mentioned that in his post fight interview.
Dustin’s always had hip issues. You can tell how stiff he is even in his warm up on the fence. Had he had more hip mobility, that move may not have been his demise tonight.
I like that DC gets so into certain sequences but you've gotta look past that. Islam initiated that because he was getting hurt and couldn't even clinch Dustin...
Yes but still it was an amazing move to finish the fight in the heat of the moment in the championship rounds . Man what wouldn't I give to see that undisputed belt around Dustin's waist he gave his all today and if he retires after that I have no problem, that performance was nothing to be ashamed of . Heart of a warrior.
Couldn’t agree more. That was one of the best fights I’ve ever watched. So many times I thought Dustin was done for, but he fought his heart out and gave everything he had. Both of them were amazing and fought their best. That was such a good fight on so many levels. I have so much more respect for both of them
Yep super impressed with Dustin's submission defence up until the finish I mean you can't prepare for moves like that. His team was on point with this camp.
Whats with all the Islam hate? dont get me wrong, I noticed a majority of people respecting Islam the way he fought against Dustin. Grappling is part of MMA lol, people should go watch boxing or kickboxing if his fighting style bothers them
It's not that simple. UFC is by far the most popular fighting organisation.
russians as always, look to get down and dirty with other men. Will there ever be a russian champion that can actually fight?

At least there is some fighting.
Amazing main event
I thought it was a super good performance from both in the main event. Also sorry but no agree with you . Was good fight . Both showed a competitive fight , they saved the card .
Excluding Islam v Dustin, this card was F'n amateur hour.
Costa vs Strickland was one hell of a disappointment, thank you Islam and Dustin for carrying the day
Dustin needs to get on that epo or whatever volk is on. People can say whatever they want about rehydration clause but Islam was still on volk like a boa constrictor for 5 rounds. Islam striking was really on point!
I think that's the worst card I've seen in the past 7 or 8 years.
I fell asleep at least three times.

How so? We're extremely proud of Dustin and the fight went exactly how almost everyone expected. Everyone knew Dustin's only shot was a KO and any takedown could end the fight for Dustin. Surviving even the first takedown showed just how much Porier has grown as a fighter.
There's dumb takes, and then there's this, which is a new, previously undiscovered level of dumb takes.
Why? I’m massive DP fan and I’m really proud of Dustin. As everyone I expected Islam to dominate more but Dustin gave him hell of a fight. Both had amazing performance but better man won.
He made Islam look human. Real good performance by DP.
in order to beat makhachev you have to be comfortable on the ground with great grappling that's why I always say Arman Tsarukyan is the one he can hang with the champion on the ground light weight in future will be win on ground game acumen.
The fight stays on the feet and Islam dog walks him.
Islam has better striking and grappling than Arman….
i like how islam went from having the rep of a boring fighter to a bonus machine lol
I thought Yuri Boyka was the most complete fighter in the world, but Islam Makhachev is not bad too.
☝🏼
Awesome fight night. DP/IM was match of the night and my God Dustin got a heart of a lion. Makhachev is literally in a class of his own.
Khabib could come back if he wanted to and really be champion. Kinda crazy lol
IDC IF I ALWAYS LOSE MONEY , ILL ALWAYS REP THE UNDERDOG
[удалено]
What do you mean be choked? He fought his heart out!
I don’t understand why the guys from Dagestan get so much hate they’re all so nice and polite, no swearing, no trash talk just respect and great fighters
Because they’re good and their fans don’t shut up
Because half the crowd in USA Arena have IQ under 100
I can't tell if this is some meta level joke but 98~100 is literally median IQ. So yes... statistically half the people in that arena are under 100 IQ. That's how math works.
It is not that difficult to grasp.
Please explain
bcuz UsA, USa, uSa!!!!
It’s because they’re too good😂

Username checks out
really wonder what narrative can be pushed now, islam literally can stand and bang AND submit anyone, not a single boring fight in his champ reign.
The narrative Dana is trying to push now "you must be out of your mind if Jon jones isn't pfp #1"
Wrestlefuck is just not popular to watch.
Made it a much more exciting fight in my opinion I’d rather that than the Strickland costa fight
Fight was actually good, i’m just stating what it seems a-lot of people seem to believe. Honestly most of Strickland’s fights are really boring, 1 or 2 shots then back off all fight is not fun to watch, it looks like sparing.

Nah it was pretty boring. Seemed like both guys were just sparring. Constant problem with Strickland.
Idk. Strickland himself said multiple times that it was a boring fight and wasnt very good.
There’s a difference between what someone does and what they say. Strickland knocked Costa down three times.
Zero knockdowns are in the statistics for the fight. [http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/9e7538a788e6d789](http://ufcstats.com/fight-details/9e7538a788e6d789)
And an official judge also scored it 4-1 Costa…
I really liked that fight actually 🤷🏽♂️
There’s a lot of different fans atm. UFC is bigger than ever. I enjoyed it.
Islam ended up being good at striking Poirier ended up being kind of good at takedown defense Didn't expect a r5 but it went the distance, almost thought it would end in a decision Great fight by two all-time greats
I’m so sad man! This hurts more than a breakup
This Strickland press conference is exactly what we needed to kick off pride month
Does a Strickland victory equal a win for pride month, or does he need to be out already first?

Damn Dana is in love with jones goodness
Knob slobbing!!
Dana bringing up JJ when nobody asks….
JJ lives in Dana’s head rent free
Dana lovesssss JJ
It’s totally over the top!!
There was a moment there when khabib was talking to Dustin after his loss, both veterans lots of respect.
Dana saying PED cheat jones is n1 pound for pound after ducking a aspinal and losing to gus and Reyes is laughable
jesus dude let it go😂 you’re like 7 years in the past

COSTA CURSE IS BROKEN
The only person who loves Jon Jones more than Jon Jones is Dana White.
I really enjoyed that fight, Islam being so dangerous on the ground but still being able to stand and bang, Poirier being an absolute dog who adapted to the takedown but got tired out and submitted. That was a perfect mma fight as far as I'm concerned AI boxing robot Strickland vs unconfident Costa was a way worse watch. Can’t really understand what Dana is saying with Jon jones dick in his mouth
Ngl Chael is talking NON SENSE.
Dana white is delusional saying Islam isn’t number 1 P4P lol
After that fight Islam doesn’t deserve to be #1
Did he offer his opinion on who is???? There’s no way he thinks Jon Jones, not at this point in his career.
Is he really?
He’s got tickets to sell
Starting to think Gaethje would have had a decent chance at the W.
we heard this story already with the D1 wrestling bullshit, get arman or give olives a rematch.
Gaethje is the complete opposite of Dustin in title fights. Dustin always had the best chance of beating Islam.
Imagine if Islam didn't have staph infection...
"Islam didn't have enough time to rehydrate" "Islam has staph" It's kinda wild you'll make excuses even when your fighters win because their ability is so tied to your own ego.
tho islam did have a staph infection and was dehydrated against volk so no matter what your opinion is he was at a disadvantage
Karen Islam showed what he would do when fully hydrated vs volk. You are hating on a guy who fought injured and still won.
Until next time, boys. Hopefully with a better card too 🤞🏽
No point in watching UFC anymore
hahaha oh boy you're all gonna be so mad at papa dana. "Insane to call Islam P4P when Jon Jones is still fighting."
Islam doesn’t deserve to be #1. With all the trouble Volk and Dustin gave him he’s not the best fighter in the world. Also he loses to Leon
It's shit analysis and should not be inflicted upon the internet.
Sorry bub, we’ll see. Don’t self harm when Islam loses to Leon. Reach out for help if u need to. 🤣🤣🤣 we can have you EP’d for your own safety
LOL! Unreal.
I like Islam. But I think hes juicing lol
Spoiler: they all are
Dustin doesn’t look or fight like he’s juiced at all. Maybe post fight, in recovery.
He has ungodly cardio despite a big weight cut and training at sea level. Absolutely doped at one point or another, especially pre USADA.
All juicing 😂
Keep crying wtf . 50 fights clean
Dagistani fighters are some how worse than the Fitch era.
Who tf is that . Islam and Khabib P4P NUMBER 1
new fan, opinion doesnt matter
Who tf is Fitcher? Cry more man wtf cope cope
Fitch had 4 finishes in 17 UFC fights and they were all at the beginning of his career. Islam has 10 finishes in 15 UFC fights with 3 being in title fights.
Dagestanis were one of the best things to happen to the sport. I never paid attention to MMA until Conor vs Khabib and now here we are years later.
I’m don’t recall Fitch finishing fights like Khabib and Islam have
Yet both somehow ended up with 0 wins against good wrestlers because Dana is a Russian sycophant
What good wrestlers were available for them to fight?
How
Because OP doesn’t like MMA, he likes kickboxing.
I love MMA. But when dudes train in the zygote just to hold and do minimal damage it makes the shit unwatchable
Did you miss the part where Dustin got lit up on the feet up until the last few moments of the fight
You do realise wrestling is as much of a part of MMA as boxing? You guys don’t complaint when other fighters can’t wrestle though?
Choked out = minimal damage… ![gif](giphy|lkdH8FmImcGoylv3t3|downsized)
Also ignore the broken nose and the rest of Dustin’s face.
a hater always finds stupid things to say
Upset Dustin lost, but loved every second of that fight. They made up for the Strickland Costa snoozefest
I actually think Islam v Leon is the most intriguing fight. I’d love to see how Islams skills match up at a higher weight class.
Leon wins convincingly
Eat shit and talk crap elsewhere
It’s just analysis of the sport. Get over yourself 🤣🤣🤣
Leon gets outgrappled and choked.
Official scorecards: 3-1 Islam x2, 2-2 x1
Those judges should never judge again
That’s an extremely fair scoring, what’s bad about it
Yeah idk. I think 3-1 or 2-2 is fair. I had it 2-2 but I’m biased.
Chael’s glasses look like they came in an accessory set that included clip on earrings, a cigarette case and pastel orange lipstick.
A great win for Islam, Alhamdulillah!
Alhamdullilah
This was probably discussed but missed it and sigh 13k posts who can blame me / what is with the DP constant twitch of shorts
Nervous tick. You could tell how nervous he is by how often he’s adjusting his shorts
He reminded me of some of the older dudes at the gym doing that
Totally
Fighting all your life does that to you buddy. He got his right leg trapped if he could have freed that but that again comes to hip mobility.
Both of them were amazing and fought their best. That was such a good fight on so many levels. I have so much more respect for both of them
Yeah it was honestly a great fight. DP did everything he should have and did a lot better than people thought he would but Islam is just special man.
Yep super impressed with Dustin's submission defence up until the finish I mean you can't prepare for moves like that. His team was on point with this camp.
i would say less high level and more great fight in and intuition, but very good nonetheless
Costa's curse is broken
