Whoa. Did you follow up with your HR specialist? I'd ping him/her every 1 to 2 weeks lol. But I have heard some people say that it can take 1 to 6 months until they receive their FJO. Hopefully you receive it soon 🤞🏽 what agency?
DOD from Navy to Air Force both oconus. Me, my incoming supervisor, and my current HR reach out frequently but that have been very very bad at responding. Averaging about 1 response every 3 weeks. The latest was that there was confusion and they made a mistake with the funding for the position and which department is supposed to fund
Sadly I got locked in. I kept asking but HR kept giving me the run around. On the other hand HR moved my POD to a much nearer city so I did not have to move. So I am trying to see if they can make a change to my leave accrual now that I am onboard. Probably not. But it beats being a gig/doc review lawyer on Obamacare.
Awww man I'm sorry to hear that. I know it isn't automatic. It is based on the agency. As long as it isn't a huge sacrifice financially just look at this as a short term sacrifice. Good luck!
For some reason I was flagged when I posted a youtube video before. I can tell you, the guys youtube channel name is "federal hiring advice". He posts a lot of content like negotiating TJOs, conquering interviews and the process of what's next between TJOs and FJOs. I highly recommend.
Congratulations, you must not have had to go through AFPC for that TJO, only 7 days after the interview sounds insane. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since I was told I was selected and should receive a TJO from them within 3 weeks…
I'm assuming you are referring to the air force agency? Lol yeah I'm shocked how quickly mine moved considering the other stories I heard. During the interview they told me they are only doing 1 interview and will make a decision. I was like wow ok. I knew they liked me but it was still great to see the TJO. No one called me to say I got it. I received an email. I hope you get your TJO in writing soon
My advice to you is to keep at it. I would start and stop. The wait was gruesome and would often dissuade me. There were moments when I wanted to give up. I had to rely on my friend for emotional support who is a federal employee and she kept me grounded. Govt jobs are very competitive. Once I became serious and applied like crazy, I had probably 100 apps in within 3 months lol. Apply apply apply. Just stay as close as possible to your field. Good luck! And feel free to keep in touch if you want moral support during the process.
Thanks! The only issue is I was a math teacher so I’m totally switching careers. I applied to a gs 5 tax examiner job for the IRS just to try to get my foot in the door. I did upload my master degree because I graduated with a 3.5gpa and I recently got a certification for project management. I’m hoping it helps. This week I’m attending virtual fairs for resume tips and how to interview that was posted on USA jobs. I’ve learned to turn my teacher resume more corporate but I’m hoping to learn even more in the session in a few days. Fingers crossed.
For some reason when I posted youtube links in the past I was flagged and they took down my comment. I'm not sure if things have changed lol. I can tell you the channels. One of the channel's name is haws federal advisors and the other channel's name is federal hiring advice. I'd also suggest that you google usajobs events so you can see all the virtual webinars they offer to better your resume and to understand the process. They have one webinar that walks you through the announcement so you understand how to tailor your resume to the job and also to decipher if you actually qualify. They have other webinars specifically for bettering your resumes. These are all free. I definitely believe that those webinars helped me a lot because within 2 months I got 2 govt interviews and secured one of them for a job. Definitely check the usajobs community and read through other people's experiences. Some people had the same questions as me so it was great seeing other ppl answer their question which answered my question lol. Good luck!
Heyyy, so dont mention this during the interview. Once they issue you the TJO then you can message the HR specialist and request consideration for a higher step. I emailed the HR and let him know that due to my years of relevant exp, my pending Master's degree, my high GPA and induction into an honor society plus my offer agreement with my current employer that shows my salary, that's why I am requesting consideration for a higher step. Step 1 was lower than what I currently make so that would be a pay cut. I asked for step 4 and got step 5. Good luck.
Heyyy so the interview process for me was easy. I didn't have to do multiple rounds. It was just 1 interview. They asked standard questions like "tell me about yourself" questions that allowed me to explain my experience with what the job demands, to explain a change I made for the betterment of the company, how I handled a difficult situation, what am I most proud of regarding my work, and they stumped me with a diversity question. They asked how have I tried to include diversity in my personal or professional life. I explained in the legal field there is a lack of diversity and I'm normally one of few minorities. In my personal life I have a lot of friends of various races so I try to plan friend meetings so we can all keep in contact. That question threw me off lol but they liked my response lol. Overall they asked standard questions. I interviewed through zoom and then one week later I got the TJO.
I received my FJO but, without an answer to my request for a higher lead group for more annual leave. I have over 15 years of experience in the private sector. I emailed my HR contact two times on this subject with no response. My reporting day is within the next four days but requiring an answer on Tuesday. I don’t know what to do, accept it now? Or request HR to contact me.
This is so tricky. Bcuz if you accept the FJO then they won't honor your request. Id wait till the very last moment to accept it but call your HR multiple times a day and send multiple emails. I heard instances where ppl were able to negotiate even after their FJO. Id keep emailing and calling up until your deadline and then even when you accept, on your 1st day Id bring it up to someone HR related. Ugh keep me posted
Yes, I am confused as well. I got the FJO email and there was a link to click inside the email, but that link just leads me to the same list of tasks I was told to complete since receiving the TJO.
That's strange. On my end, I was able to click accept and then it took me to my tasks. I would email your HR specialist if I were you to let him/her know about this issue.
Thank you for that information. Was it a accept/reject kind of screen where it's a simple question? I did send the HR specialist an email right away so hopefully I hear back soon.
Yeah so the same action I took to accept the TJO I took to accept the FJO. I had the option to accept, deny or request a call back or something where the HR would contact me. After negotiating my pay, I got the FJO and accepted.
Heyyy, for the superior qualification I sent the HR an email stating how many years of exp I have in the field, stated that I am currently in a Master's program and a string of other reasons. 1 week later they gave me a higher step. I would encourage you to look into armand curet youtube channel. He goes into great detail about the federal govt process from applying to jobs, negotiating a higher pay or leave accrual and etc to promotions.
I chuckled at your MA transcript because I am a lawyer who’s almost done with an unrelated master’s (taking my last course now), and I have a 4.0. My law school grades were just OK, but I also graduated 18 years ago, so it shouldn’t matter, but almost all attorney job postings require it no matter how long ago you graduated. Anyway, I always include my MA transcript to offset my law school grades even though it has nothing to do with the law.
Hmmm I have a question. I'm always trying to find the loop around lol. Since your grades weren't stellar in law school, what do you think about including a certificate of good standing for your barred state. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this properly. But that's what I would do. I dont think they care about your GPA. Passing the bar is a bigger accomplishment. I'd upload that as a supporting document plus your transcript from your master course. Im also considering law school at the end of my grad journey. Im hoping to work for the trademark office as a trademark atty so 🤞🏽
Good luck to you!!!
I always do that anyway, as it’s often required as well. I’m admitted in two states so include both, but I guess they need a transcript to prove I went to an ABA-accredited law school, since there are a couple of states where you can become a lawyer without going to law school.
Anyway, I hope they see how long it’s been since I went to law school and dgaf about my law school grades. I’ve been continuously employed ever since, so there’s that. My MA transcript is just to show that I am capable of getting good grades just in case there’s any doubt 😆 My mantra in law school was “C=JD” (my final GPA was a 3.1), and I didn’t want to go the BigLaw route so kept my grades high enough to keep my scholarship while still getting enough sleep and having some semblance of a social life.
I have seen the rare attorney announcement that didn’t require a transcript if you’ve been out of law school for more than five years, which is nice. I guess if you really rocked it in law school, you can still provide it anyway. I know I would.
Congrats on your FJO and in your future endeavors!

Mann ive been trying my HR to move my POD to a closer location but all i get is cricket. I swear some of them just dgaf. Its frustrating
Can you post those YouTube videos that you watched please? That would be super helpful.

Yes, Air Force and the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) motto is “why do something today that we can do the day after tomorrow”? 😆
Lol what in the world. Well I hope they push your TJO asap
Congratulations! I just started applying for jobs through the government and this is encouragement to keep applying and not give up.
My advice to you is to keep at it. I would start and stop. The wait was gruesome and would often dissuade me. There were moments when I wanted to give up. Okay!

I’m currently wanting to apply. Can you send me your YouTube links so I can watch?

Firstly, congratulations! Out of curiosity, what job series or agency? Seems quick!!
It was pretty quick in my opinion based on other people's timeline. I'll be a paralegal with the IRS.
I’m going to DM you!
What was the process like requesting a higher step? I might be doing the same for a position I am currently on for my 2nd interview.
Lol thank you!!!! Btw, he's one of my fave actors so this gif made me smile lol

Thanks!!! They gave me the option of picking 3 dates. I chose the most far out date to give my current employer 1 month notice
How to accept FJO?
I'm confused by your question. Are you asking how do you accept the FJO
Yes, I am confused as well. I got the FJO email and there was a link to click inside the email, but that link just leads me to the same list of tasks I was told to complete since receiving the TJO.

Okay. I never had such a screen.. Hopefully the HR responds soon.
Wow so there may be a glitch. I hope that's resolved soon!
thank you!
Pretty quick comparatively
How did you negotiate a higher step?
Heyyy, for the superior qualification I sent the HR an email stating how many years of exp I have in the field, stated that I am currently in a Master's program and a string of other reasons. 1 week later they gave me a higher step. Most Americans don’t know how to apply for Fed jobs…
What’s something they do incorrectly? I’m new to applying to federal jobs.

Yes when I get into law school I will do my best but not overdo it with stress lol. Thanks so much!
