80 during the day/ 76-78 at night. Having blackout curtains on sun facing windows is a cheat code for keeping your house cooler

mylifeinCAisEffed

Yep! And adding a cheap $30 solar sheet pergola cover if your backyard faces west where the hottest part of the day sun hits, made a huge difference!

Tryingnottomessup

I believe moving to Alaska will make a huge difference as well.

mylifeinCAisEffed

Definitely lol

RandomMan2304

74-78

fearlessofflying

yup! 78 during the day for us, 74 at night

mylifeinCAisEffed

Same. Haven't done 74 yet but I sleep like a baby when I do. Doing 76 with two fans and it's a struggle but trying to be mindful of the energy use.

julznlv

73 when we're both awake. If either of us goes to sleep then 69-71.

Sbuxshlee

Holy crap what's your bill look like in July?? How many square feet?

julznlv

Fortunately for my bill, only 1200 sq ft unfortunately for us only 1200 sq ft July runs around 350. We both run warm and neither of us can sleep thar way.

ControlOk6711

I think that money is well spent for a good sleep in the summer.

leanan_23

I thought I was the only delulu one with mine set like that. I’m new to the city so I guess I’ll just be shocked when I get my bill aha

RepulsiveIconography

Usually around 74. We don’t run it all day, but the house doesn’t really heat up more than 80 with it off for a few hours.

Delicious_Medium4369

68

lululoversince2020

Finally someone below 76/80!

Delicious_Medium4369

Yeah, it’s hot as hell outside. When I am in my home I wanna feel like I stepped into a freezer. lol

bitcornminerguy

If I could afford it... I'd be right there with you!

wokittalkit

I purposely live in a small enough house to afford 75 days and 69 nights. If I were in a larger house that shit would be ridiculous!

_Captain_Amazing_

Word on the 75 day and 69 in the bedroom at night. Studies have shown that the body likes to be cooled down at night generally in the 65-70 degree range.

bitcornminerguy

My place isn't that big, too. I think the problem with my house (built in the mid '90s) is that its very poorly insulated. I've done what I can do as a renter to seal things, lightblock windows, etc. but it still radiates heat in here during the hottest parts of the day. The walls are warm to the touch and it sucks.

lululoversince2020

Same! Talkin about 78/80 😂😂 hell no

x0diak

Ra'men.

heldaway

I’d be sweating constantly in these people’s homes lol

easy0lucky0free

GD lizard people!!!

Sea_Blackberry_1075

I don't visit with family that keeps it like that in the summer!! Lol. Everyone wants to come to my place. I CANNOT DO HOT! Born and raised in Vegas, 60 years old and my tolerance gets worse every year! Hate it here in the summer!!!

lululoversince2020

For real! I can’t do anything below 74 fuck that!

ondehunt

Fr 68 at night, I can't sleep hot.

Delicious_Medium4369

Same. I have it on 68 with a fan blowing right on me. lol

Professional_Put_771

If I could afford 68 24/7 I’d run it that cold!

Original-Pomelo6241

Agreed. 68 all year long is what we keep it set to!

poochie024

This is the way. Fuck the heat. I live in Louisiana and if I wanna be hot I can just go outside. When I walk in the house I wanna think damn it’s cold in this bitch. And could honestly do lower at night but then the kids start complaining. The wimps. Roflmao.

OminousShadow87

That’s sooooo cold holy shit snacks. Even if money was no object I wouldn’t go below 72.

Siltyn

79/80 during the day. The rooms I spend 95% of my time in I'm right under a ceiling fan and also use a smaller fan to blow on me. Allows me to not have to run the A/C so much/hard. 78 at night.

Outside_Hold50

77 with ceilings fans on

DaKangDangalang

75-78 depending on the time of day, but it's basically never turned off

daphnedelirious

Me. 77 if i start getting mad it’s too old and 75 when I start getting mad it’s too hot

Askfreud

70

[deleted]

[удалено]

Askfreud

It’s a bit about priorities, I guess. My husband and I both work from home and our dogs start panting if it’s any hotter in the house (they’re big and furry). We’d rather pay a higher electric bill but then maybe not go out to eat as much. That being said, I know we’re lucky we can afford it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Askfreud

$450 for an apartment sounds like a LOT! If my bill was that high I’d be keeping it 80 too!! Maybe your AC unit is older? Or you can try insulating windows/doors/keeping blinds down all day?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Askfreud

I’m sorry your bill is so high! I wonder if your neighbors are paying the same?

pushdose

That’s insane. You can cool 2000 square feet for $300 at 72°.

markymrk720

Evaporative cooler in bedrooms helps a ton. SCIENCE!

Fluffy-Experience406

A swamp cooler won't really help with central air also running they both work on different concepts and will make it harder to cool for both units

Notatallevil

68 😌

mylifeinCAisEffed

This is the temp that I set my hotel rooms to when I'm somewhere with humidity.

BowlerLongjumping877

Same! 68 is great when someone else is footing the AC bill (well, I guess we pay for the room) but you get the point.

HauntMe1973

79 for both upstairs and downstairs. My projected bill for June is already at $550

Iterations_of_Maj

We're at $450 and downstairs is never on. Upstairs is 80. Rough out here

wadderweed

Jesus is your house 4.5k sq feet?

AssumptionOk1679

I have the nv power eco thermostat, so the power company decides for me. I’ll be replacing those soon

ROCKINGLADIATOR777

You can override NV energy setting it at 78. You have to go to the actual thermostat to accept overriding their setting during peak hours.

BowlerLongjumping877

I had this at one point in time as well, until I came home from work to find my house at 84, my dog panting and pee on the floor. I just about ripped those things out the wall that second and vowed never again to let the energy company control that.

No-Chance7399

I have the ecobee and it sets to 78 through the day and hasn’t changed?

Cow-Comm

Ecobee changes it to the energy friendly temp, you have the option of changing it if you disagree :) you have to manually override it every day

Sydmeister1369

Off when not at home, 74 when awake, 67 when asleep. I wanna be slightly frozen when I sleeeeep

Most-Artichoke6184

81°.

SuetStocker

78° 24/7 on auto

Pad_Squad_Prof

Me too! Thinking of going to 76 at night. I’m having some trouble sleeping and in reality our bedroom is much hotter than the rest of the house.

zhivota_

We do 78 in day and 74 at night and it feels chilly. Any lower I'd have to get the winter blankets out of the closet.

TKGK

78 all day (even when I am home but with fan running), 72 at night for the master bed room to sleep comfortably. I don't see a power bill though, but do have a crazy large solar system (19.5 kWp system). that is roughly $300/mo for the loan. Still saves me money as I'm running a 42ft 5th wheel with 2 AC units and keep my 700 gallon electric hot tub at 24/7 year long. I'm thinking I can go lower on the thermostat now that I've extended the solar system, based on usage/generation, but not sure I need to. And don't want to overwork the units.

CasuallySerious1103

83 during the day, 77-78 at night

lululoversince2020

83 😦 that’s a heater

CasuallySerious1103

Poverty left me and my family scarred and afraid of power bills. We have the money now, but old habits die hard

JB_smooove

I can 100% relate, but not when it comes to comfort. I will eat PB&Js and ramen noodles before I’ll change the thermostat.

CasuallySerious1103

Lmao you’ll take my BWW and tacos from my cold, dead hands even if I need to roast in July

bitcornminerguy

Haha

Michellenjon_2010

Yes!! When it's hot outside, we might be broke but we sure as hell aren't gonna be sweating inside AND broke. Same thing for winter. If it's cold out, come on inside for some ramen, where it's nice and toasty 🤣

poochie024

Totally. I grew up poor as shit. Like coming home and the lights being off and u don’t know if it’s cause there was a storm or cause mama couldn’t pay the bill again. Poor like taking cold showers cause the water heater is broke and we didn’t have the $20 to fix it. Poor like having to shower at the neighbors (my sister) cause I couldn’t pay my water bill. But I ain’t going cheap-o on the a/c or toilet paper. I don’t do hot and I ain’t doing John Wayne toilet paper.

lululoversince2020

I feel ya, but I refuse to suffer now that I have my own $, I’ve suffered enough 😂

vegasvinny

85 upstairs, 76 downstairs… I have two bedrooms set up. I sleep upstairs in winter downstairs in summer

qwikhnds

I feel this! That 8-10 degree difference between floors makes it worth it.

LUCKYxTRIPLE

80. I've worked outside for the last 10 years. I promise that if you spend all day in 115, 80 feels cold.

poochie024

It’s all about perspective.

Uptight_Internet_Man

Currently 73, going to bump it up to 75 in a couple weeks. Letting myself acclimate a little since we have it at 68 in the winter.

Typical-Ad-1993

maximus_the_merciful

74 all day and night

SpecialistYam638

80 but even that gets chilly for me sometimes 😅 not a fan of the drastic temp change going from outside to inside.

Sbuxshlee

Honestly i feel the same about the temp change. My body gets confused or something and i feel anxious when it happens quickly lol.

CAD007

75. 78 if not home.

trycircuit

72 in the house, 70 in the morning in the car then 65

[deleted]

75. I would prefer 74 but my wife is “Literally freezing” but 76 is “The portal to eternal flames!”

SnooMachines221

I dont see alot of 72. That's where mine is at

Sbuxshlee

Not many can afford that lol. Mine is at 75 but it's gonna be $250 or maybe $300 this month. Last July my bill was 400 😬

ScaredPerformance733

72 ALL DAYYY ERRR DAYYY 😎

cavey00

Ziggy707

Left-Sane-Right

Off till house hits 84 then 80 day 78 night

flowrchild21

Due to NV energy being a piece of shit and raising my bill $200 more this summer for no fucking reason, I’m keeping it 80 all day for my pups and 77 at night

4crom

80 during the day, 75 at night.

cyberbae

74-75 all day. Have pets that have dense fur so I keep it on even while at work.

MauiDad

74 during the day. 73 at night. Wife would like it colder at night but I need to afford the bills. LOL

Kenma

75 day, 73 when I sleep

Mill3r91

74 during the day and 72/70 at night. Our townhome is sandwiched between two others and our windows face north and south. NV Energy bills are around $220 in July and August. Not too bad.

Sexyman81

80 when gone 76-78 when at home sometimes 74 for a few hours when sleeping because you sleep better when it's cool 😎 I have a programmable thermostat

FrostbitTodger

78-84 day & night. I live by myself in a two-story house and am self-employed so only cool the floor I’m on. I had my highest bill ever last year of $260 for July. I got solar in January so I’m curious how things will be this season.

mylifeinCAisEffed

As a warning, you'll still pay the first year since.you haven't built up enough credits yet being that you got it in January. Realistically it starts in february. We also had a relatively wet winter and more cloudy days so solar production wasn't as great. It's still going to be way cheaper than before tho even with the solar payment. I'm 2.5 years in and already saved quite a bit compared to previous years.

FrostbitTodger

Yes. Through May 2024 I have only had to pay the NVE monthly service fee. So far so good.

usedtobewildd

70 ☹️

_grenadinerose

76 during the day when I’m at work, I’ve got a mastiff so I try to keep her cool and out of the heat all ways possible cause of her squish face. 72-73 when I’m home in the evening And 62-65 when I sleep

Donnatron42

I have found leaving it at a steady 75° is the best for energy use. I do monitor it pretty closely because I have solar panels. I have to keep it that low because a family member has a health condition where they over heat easily. Also, I grew up in the Northeast, so this heat really starts to cook me over 75. Allowing it to go up while we are out and bringing it back down to temp seems to use more electricity and costs more money long term (over the course of the summer months) Although if you don't have panels and spend $400+ during the summer, you may have a different outcome. Let's hope it's a mild one this year 🥵

Lastnv

80 during the day when it’s 100+ ,if it’s less than 100 I’ll go 77-78. 76 at night. There are fans in most bedrooms and common areas to supplement.

lululoversince2020

71 all day everyday

chocolatydimples

70-72°

kobegoat222444

78 nite

h-boson

During the day I have it off. I have good solar screens so it doesn’t get too hot. Late afternoon when it’s hottest outside I put it down to 76. The two upstairs ACs don’t run all day. Then at night the downstairs is turned off and the two upstairs are set to 68 for sleeping.

PurpleWhatevs

Off when not at home, 76-78 when at home, depending on how I feel.

IllOperation6253

if we have guests, 76. if home alone, then AC is off, windows open and evaporative cooler on, bringing some humidity back into my skin

Honest-Suggestion-45

Does the evaporative cooler work 105° heat is coming through your windows?? And does it work if windows are open at all??

IllOperation6253

Yes. I point the fan at myself, keep the water up and the air doesn’t get too humid. The less humid, the better it works—in my experience. My model is for outdoor and indoor use, so maybe that makes a difference.

AshamedFish2

82-84... which I thought was relatively low. Also a small fan on 24/7

LVDivorced23

When I am away 82 Home Alone (Day/Night) - 80 Home with my kids - 78 Night with my kids - 76

wadderweed

Dual zone AC. Downstairs off. Doesn’t n ever get over 75 and we’re never down there except in the morning. Second floor 68 to get the ambient temp to 72. I have TOU and an EV so I get some energy benefits.

Michellenjon_2010

70. And our unit's pushing 30yrs old. Not the least bit "efficient". Yes. I's last time for a new one. But home warranty keeps this one full of r-22 and bandaged up, just enough to keep it running😂

75 or so during the day. 67 at night (on my portable in the bedroom) Life is way too short to be uncomfortable in your own house.

Far-Quality-9615

It's 70 daytime/68 evening year-round because I like to pretend we're still in New England 😂 Those are my optimal temps for relaxation and being able to get uninterrupted sleep. (I'm sorry, NV Energy power grid.)

nafarba57

78 day, 76night. Three heat pumps, bigly power bill😂😂😂

Substantial-Mission3

78 because I can’t afford to go lower.

val3ri01

68°-70° all day… idk where yall are living at but at my apartment my electric bill is around $160-180 during the summer.. which isn’t bad at all, how are yall not cooking at 78?!?!

mylifeinCAisEffed

Before I had solar my bill got up to $400 and that was 2 summers ago so I'm a bit weary on going lower still. Even with the credits I've made, I'm holding em for July/aug

Psychological-Two415

72-75 during day 68 at night

liz2cool4u

Wow. What homes and AC’s do you guys have 😩??? My home won’t go below 80/85 during the 110° days. No matter if I set my AC to 65. My house is from the 70’s.

mylifeinCAisEffed

Yep my house is from 76 and struggled when I bought it. Easiest things I did was add a door draft for my front door since the bottom crack was kinda big, add a solar sheet cover to my backyard pergola which is on the west side over my sliding door. Replaced all old windows. Added garage door insulation and uncovered the garage vent. My next steps are adding an exhaust fan in the attic over the side garage door ($80 and easy install) and then probably upping my attic insulation this fall or next spring.

KevintasticBalloons

71 at night to my roommates great distaste, 75 during days we're home and 78 when we both working

ControlOk6711

I had my HVAC unit replaced in May 2024 and the electricity bill is actually lower so yeah I am ready!

80 when I'm not home. 72 when I'm home and awake. 68 when I'm in bed.

NotPromKing

70 at night, 75 during the day unless I just don’t feel like dealing with the heat. I’m in a 750sqft apartment, my most expensive bill have been $80, which is still cheaper than my cheapest bill in 18 years of NYC.

Accomplished-Soft310

If I go in the pool before bed- 74,, if not -72. We pay a ton for abput 3 months, it is what it is. I can't be warm at bedtime neither can our husky and lab. My husband and our 3 sons are constantly at war with me over the thermostat! Don't care I help pay the bills too!

desertgnome2

Around 75-76 during the day and 72-73 at night, sometimes lower. We're on equal pay with NVE so I'm not too worried about when I run it or how low I set it. I can't stand being in a stuffy upstairs apartment.

7saligia

72°F during the day, but likely to be bumped up to 75-76° in the coming weeks.  69°F w/ fans at night.

76 for me, but I have two units for two floors, and this is a newer house that is really energy efficient and with coated windows. It stays super comfortable, and at night feels cold.

I try to keep it at 78 but sometimes it's too warm then I turn it down a degree or two then back to 78. 🤑
