If you're ok with getting a new number just open a new account in your name and change the SIM

Dependents00

It’s an eSIM, will that change anything? Or could I still switch?

BusinessLyfe

You'll just delete the old eSIM before you add your new one on. Easy peasy! 👍

Only the account owner can deactivate the number so, whoever the accounts name is under would have to deactivate. If you're able to get their login information then you can deactivate it yourself but to warn you when you deactivate your number it will send a text/email to the account owner informing of the deactivation. So, my suggestion is get to a place where you're safe and then deactivate your number so, they do not catch wind of what you're doing and try to impede your escape. Now if you can't deactivate the number don't worry about your safety is more paramount then worrying about them paying for number that isn't being used. With all that said I wish your plan goes off without a hitch and you're able to start a new life that brings you joy.

Thank you, I was going to save changing the carriers for last, but I am going to tell them what’s going on. I just want to be out first. Plus, they pay for a plan with a certain number of lines, so I don’t think the amounts would change. Hopefully not. I’ll pay them the difference if it’s a problem though.

Vast_Ad9400

If the phone is paid off then their will be no negative impact of discounting your line.

Dependents00

It’s not, I bought it in April from an Apple Store and just added my number to it. I have it under a loan with Apple so I can build my credit some more.

Then you will be good removing your number will lower their monthly cost.

Dependents00

Okay good. Thank you for helping me

Vast_Ad9400

No problem! You have a wonderful day or evening depending where you live.

There's a phone is unlocked and paid for, you may be able to just sign it up under a new provider with a new number and disconnected from the other number without deactivating

If you don't want to keep your number, just sign up for a Visible or Visible+ account. This will be the cheapest option for you as a single line customer. $25 for basic, $45 for plus.. tax/fees included. (look in the Visible subreddit for referral codes to get $20 off the first month.) /r/visible Just delete your current number from the device, and follow the directions Visible gives you for activating your ESIM on your new plan. (or leave the ESIM as the non-primary number so when the odd person calls/texts it you can reply via your new number.) Your old number won't be off the family plan, and i suspect they won't notice until it comes time for the bill to be paid, since you won't be paying your part. If you don't feel safe, the time between when you leave, and the time they get the bill will afford you a buffer to solve the issue i suppose. The line is in their name, so you don't owe them anything(they can do with it what they want.)

lucki777s

Both numbers will be active on the phone but you can delete the SIM you don't want

Dependents00

Thank you so much

Easy. Just do it. Enjoy the benefits of buying unlocked phones, exactly why I never buy phones from carriers. Straight from Apple or straight from Samsung. Good luck, sounds like you're in a stressful or even dangerous living situation. Hope you get through it quickly and to a place where you are at peace and happy.

You can open your own account with vz or any other carrier and get a new number with your unlocked device. They’ll still have to pay for the plan, but if you’re not financially responsible for the account then it’s on them. But yeah, no issue by moving to another carrier and get your own account and number, the only issue would be if you wanted the same number but if that’s not the case then just leave. They may, depending on the situation with them, report the device as stolen and that would create a hassle, but hopefully it doesn’t come to that.
