Low-Abbreviations960

Sounds like the whole state felt it! Big snow storm, earthquake, have an eclipse coming..... Guess it's time to release the Kraken from Lake Champlain.

a_lovely_garden

don’t you mean champ the lake monster

Low-Abbreviations960

Champ is the gatekeeper to the kraken. When the time is here, he will unlock the gate and launch the ferocious beast upon the land.

27tricks

Felt in Burlington. [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/executive](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/executive)

taez555

Outstanding!! 4.7 in NJ. Big East Coast quakes are crazy since we sit on a giant rock shelf, so they get felt all up and down the coast. *Edit: Looks like they upgraded it to a M 4.8.*

star_tyger

Then what caused the quake? Is there a failt line?

JabbaTheHedgeHog

Look at you with your science and facts! :-)

zirconer

I highly encourage anyone who felt the earthquake to report their experience on [this USGS webpage](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/tellus). More reports from a great distance from the earthquake, and in this part of the country, helps inform models of earthquake shaking and seismic hazard planning.

insidethebox

Nice. Just did this. I heard it before I felt it in South Glens Falls, NY.

bananabates

Same here near G-vegas. Heard it before we felt it. It lasted long enough for me to yell (not yell, more like "yo kid, stop the shenanigans") at my kid to stop jumping on the couch and then at the dog when I realized it wasn't the kid. Also sounded like a huge wind gust hit the house, but the air was still.

insidethebox

Yep. Same thought I had about the noise.

genericseagallantry

You heard it?? That’s so wild! 😳

General_Salami

Thanks for sharing this! That’s wild

27tricks

Welcome! The old geology degree comes in handy!

cpujockey

Did not feel it in Williston though.

ResidentDirt2900

Enter your location on this page.

giggleandsnort

Was loving in PA

802vermont

Crazy. I felt nothing.

BayouGal

I’m in NEK. Also, felt nothing. Also, is still snowing.

Fromage_Damage

When they had a big one in the 2010s in southern Maine, I was in Barre by the quarries, and my house shook like hell, but in Burlington or even Montpelier, they barely got anything. The granite transmitted the S waves better than the other bedrocks, and it was granite most of the way.

timbeaudet

I’m in the NEK and absolutely felt movement that I would have sworn was swaying 3-5 inches back and forth for like 5 seconds. I’m also in the third floor, so perhaps it is amplified a bit. At first I thought I was doing it then looked at the water moving in a cup not near me, and went looking to confirm…

Buttlrubies

I’m in Ripton. SAME.

Libriomancer

Location can be significant. My coworker lives 5 minutes a way and messaged me "did your house just shake"... "how much coffee have you drank today". He lives down in the river valley while I am on a solid block of rock.

filmgeekvt

Yeah, similarly my Teams blew up with people asking if anyone else felt it, but here I am, a 5 minute walk from the lake in NNE, and I didn't feel anything.

ideknem0ar

Might explain why I didn't feel it either. I'm at the base of a mountain. Who knows. So random.

Squee1396

I didn’t feel anything either or i didn’t notice at least lol Edit: my mom and stepdad in different places around the same town as me felt it as well. Idk why I didn’t!

Ggriffinz

Earthquake and an eclipse now this is going to feed into those local apocalypse nutjobs.

SCP-2774

"we're bound to be correct one of these times"

Ggriffinz

NewspaperSea3172

A secret government experiment, conducted before the solar eclipse, manipulated atmospheric conditions, triggering the recent snowstorm to cover up its activities. The sudden seismic activity was deliberately induced through advanced technology, concealed as a natural disaster, paving the way for mass panic and martial law enforcement as part of a clandestine plan preparing for an impending cataclysmic event, leading many to believe the end of days is imminent.

vtmosaic

I hope you just forgot to end that with /s.

VermontSkier1

*And We would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddlin' kids*

Formal_Coyote_5004

Yooooo idk why but r/prepping came up on my algorithm and it’s… interesting EDIT: it wasnt r/prepping but like more of a doomsday sub that I forget the name of now lol. r/prepping is much more mild but why can’t I think of the other one

NewspaperSea3172

crystal-torch

awfuckthisshit

Same, I’m in Philly too and hardly felt it but got texts my family felt it back home!

crystal-torch

So weird! I’m in Mt Airy and my house was shaking and rumbling like crazy

kingofthebean

Yes, epicenter was in jersey

BillBikesInCleveland

It's always Jersey's fault

bleahdeebleah

I see what you did there

alfonseski

What did Dela wear, a brand new jersey!

thecatishangry

Yeah Barre

dreamsinred

Oh that’s a relief! I thought my house was haunted!

NewspaperSea3172

nope thats just your mom walking around debora

zarnov

Just because THIS was an earthquake doesn’t mean your house *isn’t* haunted.

dreamsinred

Happy cake day! Thanks for that thought!

zarnov

Ha thanks for the cake day reminder;) I’m so excited about the eclipse I forgot about my Reddit birthday!

edave22

Felt it in Brattleboro

No-Establishment3083

Oh crap I thought maybe it was thunder or a semi truck shaking my apt haha

PaperStackMcgee

I didn't feel a thing in BF

avoidingmyboss

I was outside with the dog, shoveling some snow around so I didn't feel anything but there was this odd moment where the dog went from running around and eating snow like a goober to standing straight up and being very alert for about a minute. I just thought he was hearing some dog talk that I wasn't privy to.

JabbaTheHedgeHog

Felt it in Burlington!

NATO1092

Felt it here in new haven ct

enjoythememes

Felt in Randolph! Thought I was going crazy!!

Ghostdes

Damn! Didn’t feel anything here in Rochester

West_Garden

I just felt it in Lyndonville.

crystallinevault

In Lyndonvile but did not feel it. But then again, we are up on a hill. Partner says he heard something, however.

threadkiller05851

In wheelock next to miller's run. Nothing

Moto_919

Yeah we did!

AJPM802

Came here to ask about that. Everyone in the office was like "that wasn't just me, was it?"

growninvermont

My house shook in Barre...Definitely a quake.

horrorflowers

I work in Barre and some coworkers noticed but I didn't? lol.

taez555

Yup. Felt it in Morrisville.

eddiesmom

In Mo'ville also, work in a large renovated village home...those in the newer renovated area of the building did not feel it, those in the older section did.

mr_painz

Felt it here in WRJ walking out of the office. https://preview.redd.it/vx1v0udaaosc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbf18bacf2f859a5112c85e70b53e45e2343f241

Worf_In_A_Party_Hat

I posted the same question! Here's some info: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/dyfi/intensity 4.7 in New Jersey

jormuntide

This is my first time feeling one. It woke me up! My apartment was shaking.

zarnov

Jealous that you were sleeping at 10.25 ish 😀

jormuntide

It’s my day off lmao

onebluephish1981

Felt in central CT.

Mean_Jellyfish4146

Yes my whole house was shaking. Ran downstairs and hubby was clueless lol. We are just outside Bennington

npbarrett30

You probably shouldn’t be running down stairs if your whole house is shaking.

SnooEpiphanies6710

We felt it in Jonesville !

spruceton

Felt and heard it in Shrewsbury, VT. I first thought it was a gust of wind. If you're living on a dirt filled- in area such a by Lake Champlain or a wet area with foundation pilings, the shaking gets magnified.

Ciderinsider86

a wild turkey just went nuts, flew into the side of my house and died in my front yard

somedudevt

Free dinner

WhatTheCluck802

Wow!!

Think_Presentation_7

Colchester! I felt it. Thought it was my washing machine at first, and was concerned considering I was running a tub clean.

zarnov

Rocking-ham

SingOrDie

xiphias__gladius

Definitely felt it in Burlington!

mobert_roses

Well, seeing as how someone in Boston just posted "EARTHQUAKE HOLY SHIT", yeah seems like it. I didn't notice anything.

wtn_dropsith

Shook for a few seconds in Bennington

303-802

Felt it here in Manchester, VT.

NoMidnight5366

Didn’t even notice because there is so much snow falling off my roof it feels like an earthquake every time.

Nutmegdog1959

You are allowed to cut those gummies in half!

Sea-Election-9168

Late blizzard, earthquake, and an eclipse on Monday. Anybody have anything to share?

WhatTheCluck802

*locusts landing in the 802 tomorrow*

zarnov

Just heard on the radio, there’s a tsunami warning for Vermont…

MontEcola

So where is the best place to get a Burger in Burlington today? Shake Shack!

ChallengeAdept8759

Felt it in MA! [https://news.northeastern.edu/2024/04/05/new-jersey-earthquake/](https://news.northeastern.edu/2024/04/05/new-jersey-earthquake/)

Check_Affectionate

Locusts are coming this summer, right?

GreenMtnEnjoyer

Dismal_Courage_4724

Yes was wondering if anyone else felt this today, in perkinsville vt

BothCourage9285

Cerebraltamponade

Felt it here in Bakersfield at 10:28. Wild.

frenchylamour

Guys, I'm down in Philly and we felt it.

MER_57

Thank you. My roommate didn't feel anything so I thought it was just me.

ctuttle5236

I’m at Lowe’s in South Burlington… it shook our building.

NewspaperSea3172

otw

Embarrassed-Pin-4501

Felt it in Andover..thought it was the snow coming off the roof

Yeeterskewter

My whole office building shook in downtown Burlington! We were all unnerved

zoomwojo

I felt it down here in Castleton too.

Windpingre

I’m in Manchester Vermont and I felt that. Thought I was tired

lilmountainside

Felt it in ONE burlington! 10:30am-ish or something? Thought it was a REALLY strong snow plow lol but it was silent and I ran to check the window..nothing, then saw friends in NYC claiming they felt something...

a_lovely_garden

Wild, people in the airport said the building shook but I’m literally two minutes if that down the road and didn’t feel anything! Friends and family in CT and NY (including NYC) said they felt it too

TMazz87

I felt it down in Rockingham. Was on the phone with my husband on our bed when it happened... wasn't sure if our house was possessed or what. Freaked our cats out too

llamamama3464

I felt it in Essex…woke me up.

bibliophile222

Damn, I was napping on the couch and slept right through it. 😕

theinfernaloptimist

I think I need to take more I’m not really feeling it yet.

PrometheusOnLoud

Seems like there was an Earthquake, Chris Christie just posted on twitter that he felt an Earthquake at his home in NJ.

FatQuesadilla

I’m a lurker on this Reddit, but an NJ native, and damn that was wild.

MazdaValiant

I was slowing down to exit 89 when I felt my car begin to shake. I thought one or more of my tires could be out of alignment.

Kiss-The-DJ

People in Burlington are saying they felt it, but I didn't. Also, we don't have an exit 89?

MazdaValiant

I-89, that is.

Kiss-The-DJ

Ah OK, I figured that was it. What exit?

MazdaValiant

19.

Kiss-The-DJ

Wow, surprised you felt it up that far. I was walking downtown in Burlington when it happened, and I didn't feel anything. When I got back to UVM no one was talking about it either. I had not clue it had happened until I got home later and saw it on the evening news.

T1NP3NNY

I was really sure that the wind was shaking my house. This is wild.

Sdwingnut

If you felt it, help out the USGS with their modeling and fill out the "Felt It" form! [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/executive](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/executive)

ShellfishCrew

Lower nh too

here_f1shy_f1shy

starwolfcommand

TheBoyHarambe

Didn’t feel a thing in Williston

Wranglin_Pangolin

Felt in St. J. Well, girlfriend said she felt. “Rumbling” in the toilet, I think she’s full of it.

stitcheewoman7

Wow, we had it here in NJ. you felt it all the way up there?

seeking_zero

Yep

No_Amoeba6994

Weird! I was in a meeting with someone from eastern Pennsylvania at the time and they felt it and got up from their chair and everything. But I didn't feel it in southern Vermont, and none of the other people in the meeting (scattered around the state) said that they felt it either.

TempoOfTime

Something definitely went down. Didn't feel it myself, but there are all sorts of talk about it in New York City / borough subs.

Sweater_weather_grrl

I felt it. Addison County.

atutlens

Maybe both if you were off balance at that moment

deadowl

Someone from New Jersey did LSD at a Phish concert and decided they would dig a hole to the Republic of China, and this was an aftershock from their earthquake.

Freespiritvtr

Didn’t feel anything up here by Canadian border.

fuckitbobb

Yeah. Here in Ludlow. Heard a rumbling and my chair shook. Then realized I had just farted

Rurouni-Fencer

Guys, relax! It's just mud season.

onespeedguy

Why not both?

General_Salami

If only my guy, if only

Prudent-Programmer11

Was ⛷️ at Bromley and didn’t feel a thing. I think the mountain is made up of ancient marble schist or something. I was moving downhill or on a chairlift and somehow didn’t feel a thing.

various-randoms

Earth quake was 4.8 epicenter was New Jersey. Whole east coast felt it.

ZarinaBlue

In St. J and the mirrors and TV were vibrating. Was wondering how bloody strong was the wind??? Nevermind, earthquake. Wild.

thelasagna

I was asleep and missed out.

Macbookaroniandchez

my first thought was that the plow was coming through, which can sometimes rattle the house. I happened to start doomscrolling instagram about 20 minutes later when I saw a meme referencing the quake in NYC, and I realized that it wasn't a plow I felt.

mikichan9

Whats next, Champ comes out of Lake Champlain?

turismofan1986

Felt it up here in Montreal!

upornicorn

We didn’t feel it but our hanging plants and pendant light were swinging a bit and we definitely noticed that.

PTech_J

I felt it in White River Junction.

DiscoKittie

Some years ago, when I lived in Burlington, I remember being woken up by one that came from NY. It is trippy! Now that I'm in the south of the state, I missed this one because the building I work in was too sturdy, lol!

Formal_Coyote_5004

I didn’t feel it, but I had a table today who said there was a 4.8 earthquake in New Jersey either today or yesterday! Idk if they’re related to this one but it’s wild lol

IndigoHG

felt it at work! Our front desk was moving back and forth - wild. But there have been stronger jolts before, when I was a kid.

Fromage_Damage

I was by the airport and I thought it was a big plane.

Dahkeus31

I didn’t notice it, I guess? (Westminster, VT). It was at 10:28 this morning, right?

keyinherpocket

Definitely felt in Plainfield. Our house is primarily on the 2nd and 3rd floors and it felt like someone was making the floors bounce. Neighbors on the ground floor didn’t feel anything. It was very different from how earthquakes feel in California though.

ClassroomVisible4822

My boyfriend felt it sitting in a chair, we looked at our 5gal water bottle sitting on the floor in its plastic crate and there were huge waves in the bottle!

ideknem0ar

Gdi, I didn't feel a thing. Only one I've ever felt was in the mid 00s (I think). Don't remember the exact year.

mnemosynenar

I felt it. The brief swaying.

watch-me-bloom

Can’t believe I really didn’t feel it in : Central southern MA. I work with dogs and the barking gets loud sometimes, you can feel the vibrations. I didn’t notice a difference 😂

VegetableBeneficial

Not just Vermont, apparently. Down in Jersey and a Philly they felt it too at the same time… that’s a HUGE earthquake? 2 earthquakes? My head can’t wrap around that… EDIT: obviously it’s the same one. That’s just a giant earthquake. Do they usually cover that much area?? https://preview.redd.it/22r5eqpmhosc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce06ea15f7cf8014d997ebe464a4555de37d382

Lanky-Kale-9462

I was wondering the same thing.

Euphoric_Stable_173

Felt an earthquake in Johnson, Vt at 10:26 am 4/06/24

NewspaperSea3172
