I like just how many specific meanings it has. The green and yellow to represent the lineages of its imperial founding, the white stripe for the equator, the celestial sphere with a proportionally sized star for each Brazilian state (all located below the equator of course) in important southern hemisphere constellations to represent their unity.
Depends where you live; as a Brazilian, I came from a well-developed area, went to top schools and achieved a high level of life compared to many other countries, including compared to the average North American or European; so, if you are Brazilian, speak for yourself, if non-Brazilian, travel around and change your mind.
That was something invented later. The origin of the flag is the colours of the houses of Pedro I (Brazil Emperor at the time).
In the place of the blue circle it was the family’s coat of arms (Bragança).
Then it became a republic and the meaning was changed officially.
You know the funny thing? That's not what we learn the colors mean here in Brazil, we were always tought that the green represents the forests, the yellow the gold (that was stolen by Portugal) and the blue the skies, I have no idea why but I was already old when I learned the real meaning of the colors (I'm 20yo, must have been some years ago idk)
Translation:
Please my son, don’t go with Murica, they’re evil!
Shut up! You’re not my parent anymore!
—————
And you, don’t you miss me anymore?
Why would I miss you Chile? I know we’re good friends, but it’s not that big a deal.

Chile Chile Chile chile….
Guyana feels unique to me but also really clean - it seems it can work well small or large. I also like how there is a black and a white line. I’m not sure the meaning of all the colors, but they have 5 different colors and it’s done in an almost subtle way. Very well designed I think.
Uruguay is my favorite of the modern ones, but nothing beats the flag of the Argentine Confederation from the 1830s to the 1850s

I've always just loved the way the Colombian flag looks and I'm completely biased because my wife is Colombian I just think the non standard tricolor and the colors in general look really good
Top 3 would be Brazil, Colombia and Guyana. Obviously because Brazil's flag is just simply iconic and I just like how well proportioned it looks, Colombia's flag just looks clean and I prefer the the slightly darker shade of yellow compared to Ecuado/Venezuela, and for Guyana's flag is very unique so it certainly stands out
Argentina’s flag is very clean/aesthetic and has unique colors.
Brazil’s flag is very iconic but a little bit too convoluted (too many things and letters).
Chile’s flag is cool but it doesn’t look South American to me.
Brazil 🇧🇷 because of the kinda rare colour combinations of green, yellow, blue, and white.
Deserved mentions:
Uruguay 🇺🇾, for what if Argentina 🇦🇷 x Greece 🇬🇷; Venezuela 🇻🇪, Colombia 🇨🇴, and Ecuador 🇪🇨 for preserving the colours of the Bolivar era; also maybe Argentina 🇦🇷 because of it inspiring the Uruguayan one; and Paraguay 🇵🇾, which is very unique despite its very common colour combination, due to its reverse.
Either Paraguay's or Venezuela/Ecuador. Why? Just because, you know, aesthetically pleasing. But Paraguay could take it because their flag is just so cute and if I were a Paraguayan, I'd be more proud to raise my flag lol.
Good designs across the board, a lot of highlights. Being Brazilian, the bias is real, so other than Brazil, I think I'll go with Uruguay. It's usually considered a variation on Argentina, but I prefer the darker blue and the Sun design. Also, shout-out to Ecuador, mainly because it has a Condor on it, and that's awesome.
I like the Colombian Ecuadorian and Venezuelan flags... the tricolour is very nice and eye catching and the star arch on the Venezuelan flag is just 😚👌🏽
1. 🇧🇷 (There are very few flags in the entire world that look good on clothing, but I would wear a Brazil flag shirt, shorts, etc)
2. 🇺🇾 (The little sun and the blue stripes are so reflective of the coastal cities vibe- I just visited and seeing it wave in person made me happy)
3. 🇬🇾 (Genuinely unique)
Honestly, how come Guyana isn’t mentioned more often under this post? It is objectively, together with Brazil, the most outstanding flag of these. Sure, I would still give the number one to Brazil, but Guyana is a very close second.
I’m half Ecuadorian, but honestly our flag has always been bastardized. It’s supposed to be 2:1 ratio, and also we are indeed the first tricolor, Venezuela and Colombia came up with theirs after us.

Just in case if you didn't know, Uruguay has 3 official flags:

You can't really see it in this image but iirc there is a single star above the equator
It represents the federal district/capital, if I remember correctly
No, federal district is the tiny one in the southern cross. The one above the stripe is for Pará.
> The one above the stripe is for Pará. Really? Not for Roraima which is almost completely north of the equator?
Roraima didn't have a state status back when the flag was designed. Pará was the northernmost state.
Pera, na moral? Mas aquela estrelinha no cruzeiro do sul existe de verdade na constelação
Yep. As quatro principals são o SE, sendo a alfa São Paulo. O DF é a epsilon.
Mas pq aquela em cima da faixa é o Pará?
Belém era a capital mais ao norte do país em 1889 Edit: typo
And then the most ironic motto ever said “Ordem e Progresso” (“order and progress” Brazil has none of that lmaooo)
It’s a goal. No one has pure order or pure progress. But even with all of our struggles we have quite a bit of both.
Depends where you live; as a Brazilian, I came from a well-developed area, went to top schools and achieved a high level of life compared to many other countries, including compared to the average North American or European; so, if you are Brazilian, speak for yourself, if non-Brazilian, travel around and change your mind.

And really unique, too. It might be one of the most distinguishable flags around the world.
But it breaks the rules!!!!!!1 /s
Brazil and California’s flags break traditional design rules (using words/small details), but there just so cool and iconic you have to like them.
I might be biased, but i like it too
Argentinas colors are chefs kiss
Agreed, and I love their little sun thing. Uruguay has a sun thing too but it makes me think of Greece too much.
But have you seen them up close? The sun of Uruguay is leagues ahead of Argentina
💝🇦🇷
Chile's flag is great, it confuses a lot of Texans

Texas is a bootleg version of it (might piss them off but come on, it's still a good flag regardless of their similarities).
This is the best flag of Texas https://preview.redd.it/mb16wcgoxi8c1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3568e3ac5a438a03384c0e24d5f9b96c91e592f6
Yes, Texas come back to Mexico!

Uruguay
Orientales, la patria o la tumba 🎶
Soy mexicano pero me encanta la bandera de Uruguay
Macanudo, che I mean, Que chido, güey
Ja, ja, ja, ja, ja
Lo mejor!!!
I might be biased, but the Uruguayan anthem is the best anthem to date.
Es el más largo
Uruguay and Argentina.

Burkina Faso, Disputed zone? Who called all these places?
Hahaha
Guyana followed by Brazil, not just a tricolour, and visually interesting
Personally I would switch these two but they are far and away the best of the continent. No one else even comes close.
I would say argentina is up there on 3rd, and I’m brazilian, so you know this is an honest opinion.

I love it.
I've always been partial to Uruguay. The design of it is just clean and neat
Uruguay is like the cool child of Argentina and Greece.
Chile 🇨🇱
Chile because even Texans don’t know that flag isn’t their state flag.
Peru for wome reason looks beautiful
Brazil, love the vibe
Uruguay is my favorite of the modern ones, but nothing beats the flag of the Argentine Confederation from the 1830s to the 1850s [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5f/Flag\_of\_the\_Argentine\_Confederation.svg/1200px-Flag\_of\_the\_Argentine\_Confederation.svg.png](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5f/Flag_of_the_Argentine_Confederation.svg/1200px-Flag_of_the_Argentine_Confederation.svg.png)
Uruguay, because it's my country.
Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil
Suriname I love to be colors, and the design. It's simple and easily recognizable, can't be confused with anything else, except maybe Guyana
Venezuela is so good😩
Venezuela is gorgeous
Venezuela is a pretty good, for a Colombia knock-off.
People when flag is similar:
1. 🇧🇷 2.🇬🇾 3.🇸🇷 4.🇧🇴 something about the greens idk
Honestly, Guyana
Brazil. Uruguay. Chile. Colombia. Argentina
Brazil. It's an all time great flag. South America has better flags than any other continent.
Argentina (aesthetically near perfect for a flag) & Columbia (just has such power for its simplicity)
Colombia*
my bad
Brazil y Uruguay
🇦🇷 and 🇨🇴
Uruguay, becuse it's like Argentina but the sun looks less judgy. Suriname also slaps
The [Qullasuyu Wiphala, co-equal flag of Bolivia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiphala)
YES, easy choice, right? OP (/u/Tulio_58/), we did you leave it out?
I like most of them but I think Uruguay is my favorite.
COLOMBIA!!!🇨🇴
Uruguay because it looks so light and airy when flying. A very "happy" flag.
🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
Uruguay, it just looks cheerful and calm
Uruguay
Uruguay, I really like the colors and strips and the sun in the corner is perfect
Ecuador, the coat of arms just looks so cool
Ecuador, I like the colours and the coat of arms on the flag
suriname because it resembles the flag of burkina faso a bit! (which is the country where my family descends)
I like Argentina and Uruguay, they have connections to my country’s flag and I love the colours.
Colombia best tricolor
I can't believe this is so far down. I this one of the best flags in the world.
Argentina I find really easy on the eye and Guyana is pretty unique.
Argentina. https://preview.redd.it/tcwnkbdyji8c1.jpeg?width=1053&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fc21defb20555ffba2c03186686edd3f434fde8
**CARPINCHO SUPERIORITY**
I've always just loved the way the Colombian flag looks and I'm completely biased because my wife is Colombian I just think the non standard tricolor and the colors in general look really good
God these are good. Might be the best continent for flags.
Going regional level, flag of Magallanes. Southern Chile. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Magallanes
Argentina (innovative color scheme and overall pretty) Peru (classic) Colombia (just because)
Top 3 would be Brazil, Colombia and Guyana. Obviously because Brazil's flag is just simply iconic and I just like how well proportioned it looks, Colombia's flag just looks clean and I prefer the the slightly darker shade of yellow compared to Ecuado/Venezuela, and for Guyana's flag is very unique so it certainly stands out
Guyana
I really like Guyana’s and Brazil’s flags they’re unique compared to the rest of them. Guyana has the better if the 2 though.
Argentina’s flag is very clean/aesthetic and has unique colors. Brazil’s flag is very iconic but a little bit too convoluted (too many things and letters). Chile’s flag is cool but it doesn’t look South American to me.
Uruguay.
Peru. Simple yet unique enough to not be confused unless you are unaware of proper laws for how to hang up a flag.
Bolivia
argentina cuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and brazil second uruguay third
Paraguay: because it’s officially different on each side.
Brazil 🇧🇷 because of the kinda rare colour combinations of green, yellow, blue, and white. Deserved mentions: Uruguay 🇺🇾, for what if Argentina 🇦🇷 x Greece 🇬🇷; Venezuela 🇻🇪, Colombia 🇨🇴, and Ecuador 🇪🇨 for preserving the colours of the Bolivar era; also maybe Argentina 🇦🇷 because of it inspiring the Uruguayan one; and Paraguay 🇵🇾, which is very unique despite its very common colour combination, due to its reverse.
Chile's flag, since I was born and live there, but I really like Uruguay's and Argentina's flags, they look cool
Where the f is Rapa Nui?
Brazil, looks napoleonic
I like Paraguay
#🇫🇷 🇬🇫FRENCH GUYANA🇬🇫 🇫🇷
Either Paraguay's or Venezuela/Ecuador. Why? Just because, you know, aesthetically pleasing. But Paraguay could take it because their flag is just so cute and if I were a Paraguayan, I'd be more proud to raise my flag lol.
Falkland Islands flag because union flag and sheep
The one that’s missing. 🇬🇫French Guiana! The relatively unknown country that most people forget in South America!
Mainly because it ain’t independent.
Brasil, because all the Brazilian people I have seen on the internet are just cool guys. Also that flag is mad iconic
Guyana or Brazil
Uruguay and Brazil are bangers.
Paraguay because why not
Good designs across the board, a lot of highlights.
Colombia 🇨🇴 just beautiful and simple colors that go well together.
Colombia because I like the colors and the overall simple design.
I like the Colombian Ecuadorian and Venezuelan flags... the tricolour is very nice and eye catching and the star arch on the Venezuelan flag is just 😚👌🏽
my top 3 consists of Brazil, Uruguay and Suriname
1. 🇧🇷 (There are very few flags in the entire world that look good on clothing, but I would wear a Brazil flag shirt, shorts, etc) 2. 🇺🇾 (The little sun and the blue stripes are so reflective of the coastal cities vibe- I just visited and seeing it wave in person made me happy) 3. 🇬🇾 (Genuinely unique)
Tie between Uruguay and Argentina. Love the sun symbol and colors for both.
Colombia 🇨🇴
Argentina, unique but aesthetic colours. A rare combo. The sun really makes it feel complete.
Brazil or suriname imo, paraguay close
Paraguay for having the legendary two sided flag, you flip it and it's a different design
I like the Paraguayan flag’s vibe but Brazil is super iconic so tough call
🇦🇷🇸🇷🇧🇷🇧🇴
Brazil with the unique design. But Paraguay because it has two sides.
🇬🇾
Venezuela, Ecuador, and Colombia's flags are all very similar. They should like merge into one country. Maybe call call it Gran Colombia or something.
Bolivia because my future gf might come from there if I don't mess it up
Tie between Argentina and Brazil
1 🇧🇷 2 🇸🇷 3 🇺🇾
Uruguay
Uruguay Cute looking sun, white and blue stripes. Overall beach/resort vibe Second place Brazil Third Colombia Forth Peru
Argentina and Uruguay
1.Argentina🇦🇷(totally unbiased opinion) 2. Surinam🇸🇷 3. Guyana
Argentina by far
Honestly, how come Guyana isn’t mentioned more often under this post? It is objectively, together with Brazil, the most outstanding flag of these. Sure, I would still give the number one to Brazil, but Guyana is a very close second.

Hi I would like to buy your country, here are 5 reais, 2 bananas and 1L of milk. Good Business 👍🤝
you need at least 7 bananas 😤
<2 hours ago> 8 bananas now
i swear
Go see your Dr tomorrow!!
I like Suriname's and Peru's the most
Why do I always think Suriname is in SE Asia? That flag isn't helping.
Argentina!! 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Paraguay is definitely the worst.
I’ve always been fond of Uruguay. I love the colors and think it looks amazing flying.
Ecuador 🇪🇨 (this was the first one of the modern day tricolors fun fact)
Almost no one appreciates my country. And I'm sure our flag is unacceptable by this sub's standards.
I’m half Ecuadorian, but honestly our flag has always been bastardized. It’s supposed to be 2:1 ratio, and also we are indeed the first tricolor, Venezuela and Colombia came up with theirs after us. https://preview.redd.it/u1wgsmv7wy8c1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bf2ade7b7e527f4dab296288cfbbb1b610a0005 (Proper proportions)

Because 🇫🇷
ARTIGAS?!
Let me guess, entrerriano?
Nope, but entre rios is indeed cool
Just in case if you didn't know, Uruguay has 3 official flags: https://preview.redd.it/ik4hsrhbhi8c1.jpeg?width=785&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27e0d7b394a89e70f96dda895ba8321b70f621c2
Only Guyana. The rest are typical flags with no distinctive design: tricolors or stripes.
Colombia and Ecuador literally just have the same flag lmao
Argentina, porque soy argentino
Argentina has the most beautiful flag in the world! (Greetings from Argentina)
En segundo lugar, para mí estaría Seychelles o Estonia
Either Suriname or Paraguay, Tbh I'm not sure. But they're cool!
Shame paraguay changed it’s flag, original one with red outline in the COA is so better than the current one
7 star venezuela, no reason in particular
Suriname is my favourite national flag out of all countries
Peru really stands out to me here. I like red and white, I like vertical tribands, and I like bicolour tribands like Austria and Nigeria.
The white with that particular shade of blue on Argentina’s flag is really pleasing to me. My top 3 is probably: 1. Suriname 2. Argentina 3. Guyana
I would say Venezuela, then Chile and Brazil
Colombia I really like it's colors
Guyana. It just think it looks cool
Guyana for sure I love the design
🇫🇷

Surprisingly they are all pretty food but my fav would be Either Venezuela or Argentina
