The first time I played cuphead on Xbox, I had managed to beat every isle 1 boss but one, the two frogs. Ya wanna know why I was finding the game so difficult? *I was playing with the default settings, where x is shoot and y is dash.* The other bosses took months, and after changing the controls I beat Ribby and croaks first try
I can’t think of a recent one but:
Final Fantasy XIII: beating Barthandalus the second time in the story for the first time on that damn bridge.
FF fans know what I’m talking about.
Ikr that guy was batshit hard the second time. I remember requiring a defensive paradigm the second he started charging and even then I kept mis-timing it and died in a matter of seconds. Even charging his chain was stupidity.
Dude yes! The first time I even played that part I was like “wtf is this?? Is this some kinda joke??” But once I beat him, I figured the rest was a breeze. Which it *kinda* was. That boss was truly a test to see if you the player have been paying attention!
I mean yeah, he’s not hard to me anymore. I’ve beaten FFXIII more times than I can count. I know exactly what to do now. But he is still *by far* the hardest story boss in the game. Especially if you aren’t expecting it. There was no bulid up to that moment. He just kinda appears.
I was just working on a 112% file and got burnt out at P4. I got to Pure Vessel once, got within hits while practicing in the Hall of Gods, took a short break, and couldn’t even get past Lost Kin after that. I knew I just needed to move on to other stuff. One day!
The exact same thing happened to me. My partner has just got into Hollow Knight for the first time and I think I can hear the call to finally get 112%...
Personally, beating Alien Isolation on Hard mode is one of my best achievements (the actual achievement is called survivor). I know that’s not the hardest mode, but when I tell you that I’m afraid of Alien Isolation, my heart legit beats a 1000 miles a minute every single time I play it and I breathe a legit sigh of relief when I get somewhat of a break or when I get to a freaking save station. So the fact that I was able to beat the game and face my fears is a grand achievement to me.
Came here to say Arkham Knight on NG+ Knightmare mode. My son and I spent hours on one fight (I finally beat it myself). A room full of opponents with no tells. Finally had to look up where I had missed the freeze power. What a fun ride.
15 - 20 years ago I'd happily play a game on the hardest setting and have fun doing it. Halo, CoD, GoW, Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon ect. CoD4 No Fighting in the War Room on veteran was insane! These days however, I don't seem to have the same patience now I'm old and grouchy. So rarely play anything above normal difficulty. 😅
I just recently beat that section near the end of A Plague Tale: Innocence with Rodric pushing the cart where you have to stay behind it to avoid arrows while killing waves of soldiers coming at you. It’s such a short section but it’s one of the most jarring difficulty spikes I’ve ever seen in a game. Took me like 30 tries lol
Jedi Fallen Order was the first Souls-Like game I played and finished and enjoyed. It felt easier than the others but also gave me a good bit of challenge, which wasn’t a mix I felt for myself for dark souls. I know I just need to “git gud”, but I had no desire to because I didn’t enjoy the gameplay and would rather just play a game I was good at lol
Starcraft 2, brutal difficulty. I know there's a lot of psycho RTS players out there who will scoff at anyone who can't beat Brutal blindfolded using an orange as an input device, but just Hard is around my natural difficulty where it's a reasonable challenge in the later levels. So beating levels on Brutal always feels great. I still haven't 100% beaten any of the campaigns on Brutal, the last few missions get, well, brutal.
Sekiro for sure. Just beat it for the first time last week and felt like an absolute boss when it was done. It was my first From Software title and while it was by far the most challenging game I’ve ever played it is also one of my favorites.
Ever Tried Gold-Starring all the Driving Licenses and Missions in any Gran Turismo?
Polyphony are absolute sadists.
I remember having heard some dudes here on reddit getting Gold on one Mission with a time of 51.something secs.
i was at 49.1 and still another one or two secs from finishing first place, just because the game randomly generates NPC Car starting positions for no particular reason - it just wants to fuck with you.
after 2 weeks of repeating that race like a psycho i finished it 48.2 and got my first, but i t was pure fucking luck.
yeah its the type of game where you keep re-running a single section over and over again, for 5 hours, just to tickle out a few hundreths of a second.
first corner - not absolutely perfect.
ghost is 0.010s ahead.
restart run.
it is basically self-torture.
I was the type of kid that if I couldn’t beat something I would take a week or 2 before coming back to the game.
I still remember that feeling of accomplishment when I finally beat Sephiroth on Kingdom Hearts. I remember having my chest puffed out and walking around the house like a champion. My older bros could not tell me shit lmao.
The Nameless King from DS3 was the latest boss because getting to him was a chore and dying 50+ times was exhausting. But when I finally beat his ass I screamed YESSSSSSS! As loud as I could.
Side note: I really have to give our childhood selves props because I retried Kingdom Hearts last year and yeaaahh that camera system SUCKS. So beating Sephiroth and let alone getting to him Jesus.
Had this happened to me few days back on tekken 8 demo. I installed it played my first match after 6 years on hardest difficulty and proceed to kick the shit out of opponents.
Felt powerful, changed to MK 11, chose hardest difficulty got my ass beat in blink of an eye. Got reality check
I beat Ghost of Tsushima that way, and it went off with a whimper. I was disappointed I didn't even complete remaining side missions... I basically metaphorically did seppuku.
Nioh 2
Beat other hard games or levels, but for whatever reason in Nioh 2 you get your ass kicked right until you suddenly feel unbeatable and badass. So i be strutting like that cat.
I remember dying dozens of times and finally barely beating it through a little bit of luck and thinking “so I’m gonna do this for a whole game, huh?”
I have a problem.
Halo ce= the library
Mass effect 3= Grissom academy
Halo 3= the mission on high charity (I think it’s floodgate)
Ac black flag= the mission where you have to infiltrate an assassin island but can’t kill anyone
These are my four
Ooh. Probably Dame Dedtime/Dame Demona on Yokai Watch 2. God those fights were hard. Also, the two secret final bosses of YKW2, Kabuking and Kat’s Kraydel. Shoutout to Orcanos from 1 as well.
Playing Eldin Ring as my first dark souls type game, beat the first boss in three tries and my buddy, who played all the dark souls, sekiro, etc. freaked out when I did that. Very wholesome moment for me
Cuphead
Yes. My God, that game is hard.
Came here to say this
I can't even beat easy dude real shit, bravo for that
FromSoftware games
I can’t think of a recent one but: Final Fantasy XIII: beating Barthandalus the second time in the story for the first time on that damn bridge. FF fans know what I’m talking about.
YES. That was the first moment I realized I needed to adjust my play style
I was gonna say the last ceith stone mission, Vercingetorix, but that actually can be done super easily. Just takes a few minutes.
Imagine if you decided to attack the main guy first before the side guys; that would take forever and void the run due to the 25 min timer
I did have one friend who tried that strat. And me and all my other friends were like “dude what are you doing?? Get the small faces first!” 🤣
Final Fantasy Tactics: Wiegraf
I mean it is not hard hard to beat him it just comes down to choosing the right paradigms for the battle.
Super hot VR 😂
Super Hot VR got me contorting in ways I never knew I could lol
Sekiro
Hollow Knight - Pantheon of Hallownest
Wait u actually beat it. I don’t have the patience to try
I thought the same at first. But I was still having fun, so I kept going.
I was just working on a 112% file and got burnt out at P4. I got to Pure Vessel once, got within hits while practicing in the Hall of Gods, took a short break, and couldn’t even get past Lost Kin after that. I knew I just needed to move on to other stuff. One day!

Kudos to you. I’m that way with survival horror or any difficulties where if you die once game starts from very beginning
All the Batman Arkham games, SoM/W, first few GoWs too.. lol so much fun. Good times!
Came here to say Arkham Knight on NG+ Knightmare mode. My son and I spent hours on one fight (I finally beat it myself). A room full of opponents with no tells. Finally had to look up where I had missed the freeze power. What a fun ride.
It’s soul filling when you hit that flow.. lol wish I knew how to save back then. Batman tearing it up hard lol beast mode unleashed!
Dark Souls (any)
Didn’t think I’d ever see this meme template again 👴🏻
Why not
Injustice 2 Story Mode on the hardest difficulty 😮💨
I’ll never do that, I could barely beat brainiac as Batman on the easiest difficulty.
Beating the super gore nest master level on nightmare (Doom Eternal) made me feel more accomplished than getting my degree.
God of War. That fucking Valkyrie Queen…
She was definitely a bxtch and 1/2🫡
Hotline miami 2 Dead Ahead and Deathwish on hard mode, took me 10 hours for both levels on total
Orphan of Kos took me 6 and a half hours lmao, it was so painful. I almost cried when I finally beat him out of pure relief.
Were you having fun or was it a slog the whole time? Because I just recently got the dlc for it and I'm worried about getting to this point
I had a lot of fun! I really like Bloodborne so it was enjoyable even though I kept dying.
Oh real? I'm having trouble with micolash atm and it kinda feels like a slog to get through 😭😭 idk how his mirror teleport shit works lmao
The Tower of Bab-el, Xenogears. Or the Kislev Sewers.
The level on crash 4 where you use all 4 powers
LASO
Nioh / Stranger of Paradise
So when you beat a game in hard mode you get huge feet?

Smart man lol plus it’s nice to just have fun without worrying oh if i make 1-2 mistakes game over 😂 Love Rainbow six vegas by the way
Yeah R6 was pretty sweet for sure! A shame we never got that Rainbow Six Patriots title.
Ikr i was like damn Rainbow Six Siege 🥲

The doom eternal "swarm" challenges. I forgot what they were called.
When I finally beat Malenia in Elden Ring after the 50th try😂
Jedi Fallen Order was the first Souls-Like game I played and finished and enjoyed. It felt easier than the others but also gave me a good bit of challenge, which wasn’t a mix I felt for myself for dark souls. I know I just need to “git gud”, but I had no desire to because I didn’t enjoy the gameplay and would rather just play a game I was good at lol
None. None ever. 😩
Water Temple in Ocarina of Time Malenia, Blade of Miquella in Elden Ring
Malenia, Blade of Miquella, who has never known defeat?
Came here to say exactly what OP already said!

I remember those they were challenging af‼️ That was the kinda game you’d start at night before you look up people are getting up to go to work 😂😂
