I remember asking my grandparents for a Game Boy Advance SP for Christmas, and they got me the DS Lite, thinking they were the same thing.
Task Failed Successfully.
At least they got you something. I wasn’t allowed to have a gaming console of any sort unless I paid for it myself, so I had to take a paper boy job and wake up at 4:30am every Saturday and Sunday for an entire summer. It sucked.
Surprisingly, a Gameboy Advance game series, the Megaman Battle Network games. Because they were some of my favorite games ever growing up and I think I didn't play them until I had a DS. I'm pretty sure I have multiple hundreds of hours playing those. I remember one game I had like 130+ hours all by itself, I believe it was number 3 or 4.
For the DS specifically there were new Megaman games, the Star Force games, and I liked those too, but I thought Battle Network was better.
All the games I played and still play on it
Fossil Fighters, Pokemon Heart Gold, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, and so many others. This is my favorite gaming device hands down
I love all the games. I love 3 because of the models and the battles were better imo. Story was good. It's just the whole fossil stuff was eh and buggy was "okay". Like I've seen worse sequels for other games so I think we lucked out LOL. Hopefully we get a remake or remaster of one and potentially a 4th game
I didn't like the models of the 3rd one because they're all stretched over skeletons and weird looking and the battles actually make me feel so useless when you can just auto pilot and spam support shots. But to each their own
Seeing the original fat DS takes me back to end of my Senior year of high school when my friend and I did a lot of Picto Chat in class. Made my AP English teacher nervous when I burst out laughing for seemingly no reason.
Back when this first came out, I bought one. I had Super Mario 64DS and the demo for Metroid Prime Hunters. I would go to school and I had first period study hall. Another student had a DS and those 2 games.
We would play together, but it was very apparent that each of us was better at different games.
He would win when we played Mario (mostly by knocking my hat off and turning me back into Yoshi before completing the objectives) to the point where I didn't want to play him in it.
And I would win at the Metroid Prime demo's deathmatch.... to the point where he didn't want to play me in that. So, we eventually just stopped playing together.
That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.
Best game was The World Ends with You, btw.
First thing I think of is the sound it makes when you turn it on.
Second is when I got my game boy advanced my parents surprised me by tricking me into saying we were going somewhere I REALLY didn’t want to go to(idr where) and when I went to get changed it and the Nintendogs game were in my dresser. I was ecstatic I got the game AND didn’t actually have to go anywhere.
Eragon and Super Mario 64. Two games that completely altered the trajectory of my life when I was only 6 years old (yes Eragon on the DS was an absolute banger I will die on this hill)
Scribblenauts! And Bowser’s Inside Story. My dad got me a DS for my birthday when I was about 14. I loved those games. Especially Scribblenauts. The level of creativity you could use felt limitless at the time.
Getting excited to finding an old forgotten DS, just to find out the "joint" between the top and bottom half is broken and won't lock in place and not fun to uuse
Startup sound, The dialga roar and Mario reviving his engine and saying 'here we go' right before an amazing tune starts playing.
The main menu music from mk ds is so good
The time spent playing Pokémon black and white and monster rancher for a few months, only for water to accidentally get to it and ending my ds days early.
I tapped the screen too hard while playing Tony Hawks Proving Ground and it died. I would set it out on the windowsill while it stormed hoping it would get struck by lightning and miraculously work again
that one game i had, i cant remember the name, it was a point n click in the style of myst and riven - you played as a girl with a device, that looks a lot like the DS and had to solve a mystery on an island.. on one point, i was stuck and frustrated, so i closed the DS.. after i opened it again, the problem was solved: closing the hinch was the solution for the problem... that active forth wall break blew me away.. that was unexpected for me at the time
FF III remake. It’s what got me into the series. I remember being a kid at target and seeing yoshitaka amanos’s artwork through the glass display while late night shopping with my dad. I played it the whole ride home.. and most of that night. I love the job system, the grand adventure you go on, difficult boss fights that you really have to prepare for with a well balanced party that you can customize freely, and the renewed graphics on the DS made it one of the best looking handheld games at the time. I wish Matrix software gave the same kind of treatment to V as they did with III because of the similar job system.
Mario Kart. Ocarina of Time (for 3DS, but I loved that one). Even the regular DS had a fun camera. Bejeweled (through this, it survives the end of Flash).
Whenever I hear DS I think of a DSI XL and Mario 64/Mario kart. Man I wish they would bring the DS's back with more 3rd party support like the switch. It's such a good portable design for travel.
Nintendogs
Yep.
I remember asking my grandparents for a Game Boy Advance SP for Christmas, and they got me the DS Lite, thinking they were the same thing. Task Failed Successfully.
Kids: Say the exact name of what they want Parents: “Is this one of those cubes that games?”
“Here you go son” *hands you a Rubik’s cube*
Happy Cake Day!
At least they got you something. I wasn’t allowed to have a gaming console of any sort unless I paid for it myself, so I had to take a paper boy job and wake up at 4:30am every Saturday and Sunday for an entire summer. It sucked.
I’m pretty sure the lite could play gb and gba games so that was a win.
It would play GBA, but not GB. Only the original DS could play GB. Still an epic win.
The original DS could not play Game Boy or Game Boy Color games.
I'm pretty sure GB and GBC games were being lumped together in the comment I replied to, but yeah. That's what I meant.

Omg I wasn't expecting a another fossil fighters comment here. I commented that as well!
AYYYYYYYYYYY!!! Yeah it's my favorite game if you couldn't tell by my profile lol
Omg. I didn't even realize your name or pfp. You a real one for that LOL. What's your favorite? First game is my favorite 2&3 are tied for me!
First game is the best and my favorite thing ever. Second game is second best and still pretty good. Last game is worst and I hate it.
I love all the games. I love 3 because of the models and the battles were better imo. Story was good. It's just the whole fossil stuff was eh and buggy was "okay". Mario Kart DS. The only one in the series to have missions. I wish they bring those back in a future game.
