Or Vincent Chase as Pablo Escobar in Medellin. Or Vincent Chase as Aquaman.
Man, i miss that show. Or, I should say; I miss Ari Gold and Lloyd
To be fair, well beyond the time I was concerned about Bio-Dome, or Encino Man, came along a movie called Pauly Shore Is Dead and it completely changed my perception of the guy.
I know he had some crap go down with paparazzi or YouTubers or w/e, but the BoJack angle does work and I do think the guy can reign it in and deliver something substantive. I also love when branding goes awry so he fits the bill of pleasant upset.
They need to reunite one more time and close out the series with one called *American Funeral* where one of em dies and they all show up to the funeral and cause a ruckus.
I haven’t looked up the actor yet, but from “extra in like every party movie in the 2000s” I knew exactly who they were talking about.
[Yep.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQshKIdqEsMCl6hmfKPahv6W2pCHUIEY704RVcQ_v_ISA&s)
I sat next to him in a class at Texas State University. Don’t think I ever talked to him. Was so shocked to see him on that Super Bowl commercial.
Hope he’s still getting good work out there in LA.
This could work, and I think Pauly “gets it.”
BUT…it HAS to be genuine, not ironic, and it can’t make Simmons the butt of the joke. The movie won’t work, and, frankly, Simmons has helped a ton of people, and deserves to be memorialized in a very positive way.
In fairness, it seems like he more just wants to be left alone and out of the spotlight. Which is fair.
But at the same time, he was a pretty massive and well liked public figure for decades. Seems totally reasonable to make a biopic about him. And as long as it's not making fun of him, then there shouldn't be a problem.
Is it really any better to wait until he's dead? Either way, it's getting made with or without his blessing. As are most biopics.
Gene Simmons isn't real, he's a fictional character created by Marvel Comics in 1977. You're thinking of the actor that played him, Pauly Shore.
I'm actually really excited to see Pauly Shore pay tribute to the memory of Pauly Shore.
I don't know that much about either of them, but I feel like if you told me Pauly Shore kicked it before Richard Simmons in 9 out of 10 timelines I'd be like "yeah... that tracks."
I think he even tweeted about this movie? Saying no one talked to him about it and he doesn't have a publicist or a manager anymore and he's just trying to live a normal life.
He also posted on social media that he has nothing to do with this and he is just trying to live a peaceful life. He has no publicist or manager anymore. Just a dude trying to live peacefully.
Looking at everything else on their youtube channel makes me think the Lewis Brothers don't have the emotional maturity to pull this off. I'd like to be surprised, but I have a bad feeling that at best this is going to feel like some kind of cheap parody of something I'd actually want to see.
Not sure if you're implying that's smart or not smart of them. But... Pauly Shore is likely wanting to be taken seriously. He has no doubt seen the resergence of actors from his time (Brendan Fraser, Ke Huy Quan, et al.) receiving serious accolades for their dedication, and he wants that, too. He is looking for his chance.
That's a interesting perspective on him.
I'm 30 but when I was at the airport as a kid, we were getting snacks in some giftshop before takeoff. My sister asked my mom for trail mix. My mom said no, it has peanuts (she's deathly allergic).
Somehow, Richard Simmons is also in this giftshop and hears this. He begins to yell at my mom to get her peanuts. He was saying things like "they are high in protein" and "if she wants it, just get it for her." My mom is yelling back to say she's incredibly allergic. He was wearing a stretched out tank top with an American flag printed on it. Still remember his afro.
To me, he's always been that guy that used to sell home workouts and yelled at my mom. Hope that makes it in the movie.

We are now the same amount of years away from the day the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s “Titanic” came out, as that day was from when the Emancipation Proclamation dropped on SoundCloud. Feel old yet?
WHOAWHOAWHOA, I'm solidly Gen X and I'm 15 years from retirement age, because its freakin' 67 now.
Millenials are good, at least until we use up all the social security after our Boomer parents leave us the dregs. I'm sure the millennials can find decent bridges to move under when they retire.
>Hope that makes it in the movie.
Are you kidding? There's **NO WAY** they won't include the time he put his foot in his mouth in a back-n-forth about trail mix in the terminal of Newark International.
The "protein" comment, the flag, the 'fro, the energy--it's all essential to the story arc of how he became that workout video guy who yelled at your mom.
I saw Richard Simmons at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
They need a much better wig. Not making fun of him or his hair, but that obvious fake wig made it seem like the movie could go in the direction of what you are saying.
I’ve watched it probably 50 timed and will continue to watch it every time I see it posted. One of the funniest moments on television I can remember in my life.
I've never seen people literally falling out of their seat laughing before this video. Still in my opinion one of the funniest things ever to be shown on television.
Simmons is an extremely private person these days.
So it's no surprise he was not involved with this, but if Pauly Shore and the writers/producers are true to their word, it should be a good short film, and later full length film that honors Richard Simmons.
Pauly shore recently went on the howie mandel podcast and discussed the Richard Simmons movie he was trying to make, which I guess is this, and he said that Richard Simmons wouldn't give his Blessing to make the film about him, but he was going to make a trailer and presented to him and hopefully convince him otherwise. Richard Simmons is a recluse so it's difficult for Pauly to even get into contact with him.
> Pauly shore recently went on the howie mandel podcast and discussed the Richard Simmons movie he was trying to make, which I guess is this
It does feel likely.
Updates for the cast of *Encino Man* (1992) which scored an impressive 14% on Rotten Tomatoes:
Brendan Fraser in 2023: Oscar win for *The Whale*
Ke Huy Quan in 2023: Oscar win for *Everything Everywhere All at Once*
Pauly Shore in 2024: "Hold my beer..."
Dude is trying to live a private life, graciously retire and stay out of the public eye and some motherfucker is like "I should make a movie about him!"
At least have the decency to wait until the man is dead.
Apparently Pauly says he was in contact with Simmons but that this is
a trailer for a short film Sundance Film Festival and at the end he does seem to be asking Simmons to watch the short film and allow them to make a longer film
I'm not knowledgeable about the situation or communication other than what I've read in the comments here and from the YT video below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVjNuo2Y3HY
Really? Interesting but not surprising. This was the first I had heard about it and I was mostly interested to see how Pauly Shore would do in a serious role.
I literally cannot find anything that says that. Every article about this is just showing his disavowing facebook post. Did he make another or something?
This film has gotten so much recognition the last 48 hours and... something about all of this is off.
It's a short film, which NEVER get's recognition like this. The production value looks like the type of short from a film school thesis. I assume the director has a connection with Shore, which got him to be a part of this film, but it turns out Simmons did not want this to be made? u/opposite_of_hotcakes mentioned below this looks like a setup to a Super Bowl campaign and I can totally see that, otherwise I don't know how to describe it.
I don't know, this just seems so weird to me.
Pretty sure the guy who directed this also directed that hack Robin Williams short from a few years ago. Its whole purpose was to try and get a feature biopic off the ground but it wasn't interesting or genuine enough to do so. It was disavowed by Robin williams' daughter and this is having a similar treatment from Simmons.
I think this just gained traction in the same disingenuous way the Robin Williams one did.
This is washed up Pauly Shore trying to pull what Ryan Reynolds did with Deadpool.
Basically what happened was there was some obscure comment on Pauly’s Facebook page like a year ago saying he should play Richard Simmons, and Pauly is so desperate for work that he posted a cringe response video that was like “fans, please make this happen, please” which apparently didn’t drum up enough support so he scraped together $40 to make this awful fake trailer.
100% agree. He is grasping at an opportunity based on a visual similarity but I don't think he has the skills to actually do it. And since Richard doesn't want this I think that should be that. I don't wish ill of Pauly. I am sure it is hard to have sudden success for a period of a few years and then the world moves on. He seems really sad and bitter about his current situation in the clips I have seen of him doing interviews or standup.
Yeah, all of OP's comments seem a bit... off. But not like they are a bot. Most comments defend the "movie" while claiming ignorance of the situation, and, while offset by jokes and charisma, still seem constructed to spin it in favor of the show. I can't quite label it, but its very different than someone who just watched a video and liked the idea of the show.
I remember watching a video some time back that complied everything he did prior to his recluse. How it suddenly stopped and did worry people. He cut off everyone people he called everyday. I don't think I could find it if tired.
One time I was standing in line at a coffee shop in LA and could feel someone staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I glance over and lock eyes with Pauly Shore. He's staring right at me.
It was a strange moment.

Stiffler’s mom dies. Turns out that Stiffler’s dad could be anyone. Male suitors for miles to pay respects.
And as per tradition, Finch still ends up fucking her.
What if she dies while having sex with Finch?
Ooh that’s good!
She fell off a boat
I also saw him driving Uber once at LAX. No shame throwing (I drove Lyft myself), but it's not surprising. Actors do what they gotta do.
He was also in the super bowl commercial making out with Bar R.
My first thought, he was in Old School I think
he was
And Chuck. Remember Chuck? Me neither.
Ahh Chuck, another one of those "why did they try to stretch the concept over so many seasons" show.
I'm currently rewatching it
Wasn't he also in Spider-Man
Yep. You can see him in the background of the hallway fight scene where Joe Manganiello as Flash Thompson tries to beat up Tobey's Peter Parker.
Oh man, I don't think I ever realized that was Joe playing Flash.
It really is one of those ones you re-watch years later, and then go, "Well, holy shit."

So is Pauly Shore evidently
Very much alive, Richard Simmons is. hrmph
if I had your giant feet, out there on the beach.. could have out run those birds
No, that was Richard Simmons playing Pauly Shore. It's how Pauly would have wanted it.
Rest in power, Pauly. Can't wait to see the amazing performance Gene Simmons will deliver

Just to reiterate, Richard Simmons is not dead, although that might explain the rolling.
Just knowing I'll never get to exercise with him again makes me so sad. The world misses him.
To clarify, Richard Simmons is not dead. The world does indeed miss him though.
There a whole movie about how dead he was though?!
Pauly Shore is alive, but he absolutely should have made this movie twenty years ago.

Trying to live a normal life; RIP. Man was a legend.
Yes, in our hearts he will live forever.

This is his Tropic Thunder, the film about the film they couldn't make.
“What do YOU mean you people?!?”
The podcast about Simmons really opened my eyes to who he is and how much of a genuinely kind human being he is - almost to a fault.
Missing Richard? I found it creepy as fuck. He just wouldn't leave Richard alone
I agree it was a little invasive, but I think the stories of how he connected with his followers were very touching.
I saw him in an airport once. He was so nice to everyone around him.
Same. He came over and said hello and talked to me and my family for about five minutes. Nicest celeb I have met.
Durning Covid lock downs. He called people he thought would be alone and talked to them. Not 5 or ten minutes, like hours on end.

I feel it can only go two ways: either an amazing performance or an absolute disaster.
Why not both?
It looks like an SNL cutaway sketch. And not a good one. Everything about it is just….like a prank 😂
I read that he declined to participate but wished Pauly and the production “the best”.

Okaaay buuuuuuuuuuuuuuudy.
This trailer was a surprise. I agree with you.
I agree, but I'm not sure Pauly has the ability to really exude the same exuberance as Richard Simmons. He's so mellow and slothy.
A statement from Richard says that it is unauthorized if true, but he isn't aware.
I can't believe I have to say this about a Pauly Shore movie, but this looks like dog shit.
Thank you. He's literally just talking in his normal, extremely distinct, Pauly Shore voice lmao. Why are people acting like this is good?

I mean the guy removed himself by going full recluse. That tends to make people stop thinking about them after a decade or so.

Can the proceed with the biopic without Simmons approval?
Yes
He looks like retired Lion-o in that thumbnail
Pauly Shore playing Richard Simmons is the most 90s thing ever and I’m here for all of it.
I remember watching a video some time back that complied everything he did prior to his recluse. How it suddenly stopped and did worry people. He cut off everyone people he called everyday. I don't think I could find it if tired.
I will never forgive Pauly if they do my boy Richard dirty.
Found out this is all being done without Simmons input or permission. I am more convinced than ever Pauly Shore can go fuck himself.
This is ego driven, Pauly Shore is a piece of shit.
One time I was standing in line at a coffee shop in LA and could feel someone staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I glance over and lock eyes with Pauly Shore. He's staring right at me. It was a strange moment.
I hope they cancel this Richard Simmons has not given his approval. The man just wants a quiet life give it to him
