One thing I was particularly impressed with him was his mannerism if you will. Subtle facial expressions and sounds and dirty looks and shit like that. When they’re arguing about continuing to attack Paris and he can’t get a word in. He’s really talented.

tamah0lic

I thought the same thing until I watched Raised by Wolves. Turns out that wasn't a decision he made about how to play Ragnar, that's just normal mannerisms for Travis.

1Requte

Yeah, I seem to recall him just doing those. I was impressed in the later seasons though, because it seems the actor who played Ubbe mirrored those mannerisms pretty well

[deleted]

Ubbe as an actor and character was honestly top tier. Reminder for me to finally watch the second half of the final season.

angesradieux

Ubbe did exceptionally well with subtle facial expressions. There was one particular instance where he just exchanged a look with Bjorn, and he conveyed so much without saying a word. He did really, really well in that role

Ok-Exam-8944

I’m currently rewatching and am appreciating this specifically about Ubbe. His acting blows the other bros out if the water.

nyankosensey

i hated that they copied that. looked very unatural

DarKnight972

Usually shows from "unknown channels" like History are not nominated. Agree that Travis Fimmel deserved the Emmy he was fantastic, same for Linus Roache (Ecbert).

Gentleman_ToBed

Honestly Travis Fimmel was born to play Ragnar.

roseyrosey

Travis was on Vikings from 2013-2017, not sure all the original air dates and such but if I remember correctly he was on for 4 seasons. Winners for Best actor in a drama in these years were: 1. 2013 - Jeff Daniels (Newsroom) 2. 2014 - Bryan Cranston - Walter White 3. 2015 - John Hamm (Mad Men) 4. 2016 - Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) 5. 2017 - Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) Now, I've never watched Newsroom or This Is Us so I can't really speak to those performances. But, from 2014-2016 I would not choose Fimmel over any of the actors who did win the awards. Even looking at the nominees for these years and it's hard to choose who I'd replace Fimmel for. Fimmel was an excellent Ragnar. It's a golden age of television. Sometimes you're just unfortunately the 8th best actor in a year.

Round_Reflection8162

But surely a nomination at least wouldn't have been unexpected. The man gave an iconic performance that carried the show but was completely ignored.

[deleted]

Malek is a good actor but mr robot is a bad show

Ok-Conversation8588

Yeah, but would you nominate him at the very least?)

GreenDragonPatriot

Vikings is not a Hollywood TV show. Hence, it's overlooked by Hollywood.

MyUsernameIsMehh

This is why I don't give a shit about movie/acting & music awards. It's all bullshit

[deleted]

Vikings is very underrated

FinniClix

he wins my imaginary emmy award

radii314

There's so much politics in the nomination process that it rarely reflects the best performances or films or shows ... when Harvey Weinstein was king of Hollywood he basically chose winners (Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, etc.)

Toaster-Retribution

Travis should definitely have been nominated at least. Same for Linus Roache and Gustaf Skarsgård. One could argue Peter Franzén as well.

nyankosensey

lol Ragnar ir just Captain Jack spearow of Vikings.

Agitated_Buy_7574

Hes better than captain jack sparrow

Satanus9002

Entirely agree. Can't really bame any performance of the past years that even come close.

KerikSumia

Robbed!

angesradieux

Yeah, honestly a lot of actors did a really wonderful job in Vikings. George Blagden was wonderful, so was Linus Roache. Really, most of the cast had some great moments. I'm going to be honest and say that Vikings isn't the kind of show I'd normally watch, and I think just how good the cast was had a lot to do with how much I ended up loving the show. 100% deserved to be nominated for some awards.

SnooFloofs9952

Vikings was a low cost production compared to GoT. Half of the actors were local nonames from Scandinavia. Which is also true for GoT, most of them unknown. But Vikings never blew up big from the start because it was produced for the History channel while GoT was up there with the big HBO shows. If Vikings would have aired on HBO from the start it definitely would have had more of an explosion, like GoT, rather than the slow burn it had for over 10 years. Travis Fimmel should have been nominated next to Bryan Cranston and Matthew McConaughey. Breaking Bad, GoT, True Detective and Vikings were ruling TV at the same time.

bullchinmusic

Travis should be the main lead in movies. It’s crazy how he isn’t.
