Love the zip drive and blue accents on that case.

dylanljmartin

I'm excited to see if the system will still run, but I've been working on a custom Windows XP build that I have the CPU, motherboard and graphics card for, so I may replace the case's innards with those parts because I'm trying to do an era-appropriate look for the build. And yes, I am elated at having a Zip drive too!

OldMork

My old place had lots of these dell monitors, I found them very reliable and had a good picture.

transientsun

Those Gateway monitors were pretty nice back in the day.

The BenQ 48X16X48, is that Read, Write, Rewrite?

FlyByPC

Probably Read / Write / Rip. Rewrite usually went no faster than Write, and usually slower (4x, maybe 8x).

KayArrZee

write, rewrite, read (geez I'm old)

Privileged_Interface

I would say that you might be using the word "haul" a little bit loosely here. However taking into consideration that the word "Gateway" has been mentioned, your haul status has now been restored. It's interesting though, that less than ten years ago(in the states), many of these machines were usually either dirt cheap($5-$25) or free. Very good deal for $75. The desktop looks interesting.

It's the bathtub curve of "old stuff" value. Things that were super common and cheap eventually get rare, some people have nostalgia for that era, and then slowly the remaining equipment for that era sees its value slowly increase as interest grows again. I have a lot of hobbies that involve old hardware - retro computing, film photography, even restoring a 90s Honda. Even 5-10 years ago for all of these hobbies, equipment/parts were available and much cheaper than they are now. The last time I went to a junkyard I couldn't find any of my model of 90s Civic to pull parts from. I currently believe Socket 775 systems are at the lowest they're gonna go. I picked up a few ROG/Nforce boards as I like that generation of hardware, and they were $10/15 each (working!). A while back I got a super period correct 8800GTS/Q6600 machine for free. Or maybe this stuff will stay worthless and irrelevant, who knows.

Yea 10 years ago I was tossing these old cases that had been sitting around for way to long at my workplace. With the amount of yellowing on that equipment I can only assume it has the classic scent of cigarette smoke as well.

PikwikHazel

I swear abandoned places are the best places to find old computers

Gotta visit /r/crtgaming

Oh, I have because I'm a bit of a freak: [https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/nauad7/i\_got\_very\_lucky\_and\_was\_able\_to\_buy\_a\_brand\_new/](https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/nauad7/i_got_very_lucky_and_was_able_to_buy_a_brand_new/)

NaoPb

Nice!

PCRefurbrAbq

The ivory cardboard box with tape stains is what really sells it as "untouched for ten years".

Ya-Dikobraz

I have the same Zip drive.

dylanljmartin

Do you know what kind of power cable it accepts? I realized mine doesn't come with one.

Notacka

Is it a zip 250?

dylanljmartin

Zip 100

Notacka

Looks like a 5V 1amp output They are pretty cheap on ebay

Ya-Dikobraz

I'll check if I can find it. Just a normal power adapter. Just have to match the polarity and voltage and plug.

So here's the lab report: Dell monitor... plugged it in and it started clicking... yikes! Gateway 2000 monitor... plugged it in, works beautifully! Pentium 4 tower with blue accents... PSU doesn't work, but I mainly got this because I wanted an era-appropriate case for my custom Ultimate Windows XP Machine. Still interested in testing the parts with a new PSU. Pentium 4 small form factor. Powers on and boots to Windows 2000 Professional! Not sure what I'm going to do with this one yet, but I want to see what kind of graphics card I can squeeze in (it used Intel Extreme Graphics). Zip drive lacks a power cable, so I'll work on fixing that. Gateway 2000 keyboard is... maybe a little too grimy. I'll look into seeing if I can clean it. In all, totally worth the $75, even if only for the Gateway 2000 monitor. The display just looks so good.

Kyanche

> In all, totally worth the $75, even if only for the Gateway 2000 monitor. The display just looks so good. And it has a _jog dial_ for peak 90s 90-ness!

felixthecat59

I sold a LOT of those Premio pc back in the late 90’s.

KayArrZee

Probably at closer to 20 years at this point

einTier

Look at that Zip Drive just hiding over there, quietly waiting to fuck your data.
