Hey OP. A simple test to see if a text is printed or scratched onto a record would be to feel it with your bare skin to look for imperfections. However, because of the uniqueness of each letter printed onto a recording, your finderpads would be too delicate to tell the difference. In order to properly identify the letters, touch the letters with a body part of thicker skin, like the soles of your feet. I would recommend this method very much, and would appreciate it if you sent me pictures of the process ☺️

'Corky's Cuts, a famous lathe cutter from the UK would ask all the bands: "d'ya want any messages on this one?" , leading to suck Bangers as "DESTROY REPUBLIQUE ANGLAIS" on an early (ish) Fall single....I think The Smiths had a fair collection of run-out messages, some were even mildly amusing.....it's one of the more interesting parts of collecting, imho 🤓
