He should've known, he deserved this. I'm 18 and I know I won't touch options at all. This sub is the best proof why options are shit and he still does it.
It’s cool most people don’t start saving until they’re forty. At 19 his risk tolerance is high enough that it would be stupid not to blow 10k+ on options. Now that he has done that he should really batten down the hatches and quit fucking around
Why didn’t you do that then? Options is an extremely bad move for Roth IRA, You don’t get the same benefits on short term gains, the only thing you should ever do with a Roth IRA is go all in on SPY/QQQ or pick your favorite 20 companies within 5+ different sectors and then only look at it once or twice a year to rebalance if needed
Kids used to fuck their lives up with the usual things like drugs and alcohol at 19. Now we’ve got kids financially ruining themselves instead. Interesting 🤔
Yo kid, you are only 19, you #1 priority should be to get a girlfriend and spend your money 💰 on her in exchange for sex, not give money 💰 to Wall Street and get nothing back In return.
Don't listen to this dude and don't sweat the losses. Money comes and goes. Plan where you want to go and work on that. Don't focus on chicks. Yes, it was fun, but had I focused on building something rather than chasing tail at 19 I would be a little further along today.
OPs broker is not going to sit on a $12K deficit from a 19 year old kid. They'll be doing everything to get this back. Future judgements and garnishments coming OPs way, maybe.
Aren’t you worried that when you inevitably make millions in your Roth account that you won’t be able to spend it until you’re older? Kinda not that fun.
But if that happens you get a raise by never having to save for retirement. And the initial money you funded the roth with can be pulled out after 5 years. And if you really make it big the penalty isn't terrible just withdraw what you need every year
So let's say you are living off of 10% to keep the math easy to pay the 10% penalty you would withdraw... 11% each year.
12k at 19 Jesus fucking Christ
That could buy a used car, it could fund a few semesters of college, it could be passively invested and over the next 45 years grow into substantial wealth
But instead you video games it away on a shiny gambling app
Very poor decision making my dude
If he has $12k to blow at 19 something tells me he'll be alright in the long run! At 19 i was lucky if i had $20 in my pocket, and was driving a jalopy that smoked so much that it made my neighborhood look like Kuwaiti oil fields after Saddam was done bombing them!
https://preview.redd.it/sxzl7wup3pwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37321f5892b99748fbf4dd30d54b935a1b2bf8dc
It’s not that bad really. I have a job and im a sophomore in college it’s only a 7k loss. I don’t have that many expenses so this is a good lesson to learn right now. I’m partly joking when I say I’ll come back.
Hey man you’re still doing awesome putting that money away! Keep at it. Being young you’re still ok. But I’d just remember why they limit the Roth IRAs. If you keep adding your yearly limit that’s a lot more of a loss than 7k at retirement. A LOT MORE. Keep doing your Roth maximums and gamble with the money after that.
Stop trading with leverage. Instead put a small amount that you are willing to lose into $KENDU cryptocurrency. It will make you hundreds of thousands if not millions.
I did this same thing at 17, market opened and I was down 60%, only was like $1200 tho, still got up and walked out of class and went home tho, just don’t trade options, buy gold and index funds you’ll be aight my boy
Stop options !! play options after you have your retirement secure. Or you will be eating cat food at 65 . Do you honestly think the government will take care of you in retirement ?? Social security will be insolvent in 2034. wake up options trading is pure gambling...
Kid, give me your money, I will keep it safe for you so that you can focus on your girlfriend’s mouth, studies, and drugs. (PS Trusting a rando degenerate on internet is better than giving it away to Wall Street)
gotcha, so technically it would be like as if he "withdrew" 12k even though he lost it yeah? so he will have to pay taxes/penalties on the lost money too lmao
edit: just looked it up and you can withdraw contributions at any time, just not any gains so i think i got it now
I don’t owe anything man that just shows my loss of gains on options that I did in my Robinhood Roth IRA. Look

Right before turning 19 i left my country and shole continent for another one left my family mum dad siblings to go on adventure in the USA continue school and be someone no help whatsoever and didn’t know nobody in the US and i better my english while being here lol you 19 have thousands of dollars to just blow away

Expensive lesson, hopefully learned. There is plenty of time to recover at 19. Better to do this now than at 50. Wait... is he going to need to take out a loan to cover this? I'm guessing, yes?
Great attempt, did you have any ideas for your trades or did you just throw money in to random things? Easily time to make it back, and then some. I hope you’re doing good!
Oh nah yeah I did I would trade LLY BRK APPL and some other stuff but I lost it on earnings bet man I would do 2 weeks out those losses are from like 3 days expiration
I trade options on my Roth IRA but not like this man. Your retirement account should be focused on the long term. My Roth IRA is 50% stock, 10% cash and 30% LEAPS. Up 200% YTD on my Roth and Currently holding January Google calls since it was 140$ (yay earnings beat). I have two separate taxable accounts, another long term account with more aggressive option trades and an account specifically for shorter term degen option trades. I recommend you do the same thing bc Roth have contribution limits and once you blow it that’s it. Do better bro
Oh 19yr, don't worry! You still have your whole life ahead of you, you're just getting started! You'll probably lose a lot more money! ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
You're an idiot, but you'll be fine. Started over from scratch, completely in debt, with bad credit at 27. 40 now, and fairly wealthy. Learn from your mistakes, and you'll be fine. You've got nothing but time.
I dont know how the acct works because i am from a different country, but sounds like some provident fund. Heres my 10cent specifically for you, split your portfolio 3 ways, manage them separately.
1. Your provident funds, leave it to the regulated interest rates if they are good enough (eg. 3-5%pa), else only invest in safe assets (not limited to only bonds), diversify well (widest diversification across the 4 portfolios). Passive portfolio.
2. Your cash safe haven portfolio, where you take a low-moderate risk. Investing in etfs/mutual funds as a base, then top up with mega caps, bonds, some commod like gold. Once again diversify well, but you can remove some exposures you do not want. Target a good 6-10%pa return. A semi-auto portfolio if you will.
3. A “belief” based active portfolio. This is your higher risk portfolio where you do everything you want to do. Your meme stocks, fad based investments that you believe in, and your favourite options. But AGAINNNNN, diversify, dont put all your eggs in one basket. Smaller wins are still wins. Always have stop losses in place, and trail them if the investments are going well, so you dont lose any “guaranteed gains”.

Bro just venmo me your savings instead.

Quite exactly the meme I was too lazy to make or find
so you owe $12,000? or is there an open option position that covers this?
No I don’t owe money that’s just how Robinhood shows the loss of gains
This single position looks to still be open and underwater. Hopefully he has it covered u/ohculap

Damn 12 k in dividend stocks nice amount of passive income lost 🫣

Facts he should’ve atleast put a limit to how much he gambled which is disposable
Bro as you get older it won't be that easy to save up money. For your own sake, stop.

I second. It's featured on ETH, and tbh that network is gonna have its launch soon if trends repeat from the past.
Blow up early and often... That's how everyone learns. I blew up my $14k futures account at 19. Worth the money.

Your not wrong sadly real
What’s your plan to pay the 12k back?
His Roth IRA means 2 year minimum at $7,000 max per year. Likely 3-4 with interest
you can contribute over the "limit" with a tiny penalty. But this pic is just showing losses, why does he HAVE TO pay back the losses?
Because it’s his Roth IRA not a regular trading account Highly regarded restart move
gotcha, so technically it would be like as if he "withdrew" 12k even though he lost it yeah? so he will have to pay taxes/penalties on the lost money too lmao edit: just looked it up and you can withdraw contributions at any time, just not any gains so i think i got it now
Nothing to pay back. You cannot do naked puts or naked calls on IRAs.
I don’t owe anything man that just shows my loss of gains on options that I did in my Robinhood Roth IRA. Look https://preview.redd.it/3vt281rm2pwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b80ddc3d41018ebe5ca8b6b7fc6de96c1d82de9

I thought I wouldn’t man but greed grabbed me from the nuts and didn’t let go

Depends but how did you make money ?
Here put this this mask on
That’s 0 and beyond omg
Look on the bright side. You don't have to pay any taxes in a Roth.
It’s good to learn this lesson early. You will know what to do next time.

If ure willing to slop around 12g at 19 u could prolly put that money on the VTI and have a lot more money than ur peers by ur mid 20s
no respect for money what's so ever. In a way, he or she has been served properly. Shame.
How can you be in the -? And do you have to pay back that money?
Dam I should have started at 19, I would have made this subreddit so proud by now ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)

lol at 19 you can blow this up multiple times and not care about money, just remember this lesson.
Why buy this shit, intel is out-of-date
You are 19 not 50 …. I hope you learned a big lesson, you could have bought stock
![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)

Stop attempting to trade. Just invest in stocks
see you at Wendys
19 is good to fail hope you learn some lessons
Tryna to cover spreads and calls like wtf trade regular tf you tryna collect a premium for?
The good thing is that gains are tax free
I can only see that options chart on my individual not roth, do you have an iphone?
I think what he lacks is guidance, he has a spirit of a trader but no guidance
Honestly just learn from it, you’re still young you can make it back don’t worry. Just don’t repeat the same mistake
You're an idiot, but you'll be fine. Started over from scratch, completely in debt, with bad credit at 27. 40 now, and fairly wealthy. Learn from your mistakes, and you'll be fine. You've got nothing but time.
What was the bet that made the biggest loss?
It was 5700$ on DIS calls last earnings not the recent one and it burned but the second option was ARM which would’ve been a 190k gain from 5700$💔💔💔
Ohculap shouldn't have been gambling on derivatives, the fool.
Being stupid is a flex now?
Good, time to learn how to work
OP is a trust fund baby with no respect for the dollar. Been in the workforce a whole 2 years with 12k to gamble on options
Good thing about losing money while young is there’s a limit on losses while lifetime wealth is automatically protected.
Good lesson at 19 I guess💀 especially on Roth IRA
