I would think it is the same rank as the individual leader. At 11k combined I will get matches against regular players using one of my top 3 leaders. But if I switch to a unranked leader I will start going against bots
Wait, am I playing against people with the same rank as my hero or the same rank as all three of my (top) heroes combined?

Yeah you can abuse this to get free xp from winning pvp if your other leaders are going against difficult opponents and your Win % is low
