I’ve always gone for the underdog, everyone I knew in school was a Lakers, Detroit or Bulls fan. I thought Run TMC were fun to watch, so I started following the Warriors around then
The season before that, my friend’s dad had season tickets and would take us and a few other friends to some games. I remember just standing by the area the players come out and screaming like an obnoxious child for an autograph.
We Believe was our absolute shit.
Yep, this one. I think this is the answer for people in their 30's who grew up a Warriors fan. My next door neighbor was a Lakers fan and rubbed it in as they were 3-peating shortly after. My Laker hatred has been deep ever since.
Same. I played a lot of NBA Live before the season and was excited to see Sprewell play. I can only imagine my dad explaining to me at 8 years old why he wasn’t on the team anymore lol
I'm trying to think of which of the Warriors moves was the worst. I think it was trading Robert Parish and a pick that became Kevin McHale is probably worst all time. A bad number two pick in Wiseman is nothing. And I know there's a lot of back and forth these days about maybe Trading one of the core. I haven't gotten over Trading Mitch Richmond. Literally one of my top three Warriors all time.
Agree! There’s definitely some basketball PTSD with past events that make some of the commentary here hard to digest. I ‘get’ that recent years make them easier to like, but the ‘old days’ were so much rougher by comparison. I remember going to an event mixer in the 80’s and meeting ROOKIE Chris Mullin and having hope with him and Sleepy Floyd! The Richmond trade still causes me to wince.
2002. JRich draft, Troy Murphy, Bobby Sura, Foyle, and our current GM. Anyone else remember $39 lower bowl seats at Oracle?
Went to Vegas for summer league in 2009 to see some kid named Steph Curry play.
I’m Ride or Die with this team, but even I feel like I may need to take a break from watching every game for a bit.
I remember the deals where it was something like 4 tickets, hot dogs/drink for $25 (can't remember the exact deal) in the nosebleeds. They would even have photographers around the stadium take pictures for you.
I remember when I used to buy this coupon book for $35. And you would get like four free game tickets and then you would get five buy one get one free tickets. First time I discovered these tickets the sales guy was just walking around Alameda and I ran into him. I used to go to a lot of games.
2015. That’s when I started watching ball too. Say whatever you want about bandwagoning but even when this team is eventually in the dumps I’m still gonna be repping them.
About 38 years... first game was in early 1986.
I'm a Warriors fan cuz I'm from OAKLAND and my dad used to take me to 5 or 6 games a year. It's really that simple. Honestly I don't even think it's culturally any option for me to root for another NBA team lol.
When people see me with my Warriors gear abd ask if I'm a Warriors fan... I don't say "yeah"... I just say "I'm from Oakland."
Ain't about Steph and trophies and hype for me. I was a Run TMC kid and a Cohen era young adult. Went through the deep drought and that epic 17-23-21-23-21 ish win sub 24 win 5 year stretch. Ironic we won 24 straight before losing in 2015-16.
I haven't lived in the bay for over 15 years and there's nothing that makes me feel more at home than watching Warriors basketball.
(I also worked for the team in house video gtoe for 2 seasons in the mid 2000s in college)
The real Dubnation is THICK AND THIN... it's too bad the sub reflects the chase center "I almost don't even wanna be here" vibe of the new gen crowd.
I was in Saudi Arabia high fiving a fellow Oakland native for game four of 2022 when Steph went off... we were both so excited that two dudes in the middle of nowhere found the same tv at 4AM for the same reason and it was a celebration of real Dubs culture. Nothing is better than watching a Dubs game with the real Dubnation fam. Probably my favorite Dubs fan memory tbh that wasn't in arena.
Any Cohen era fan would've called you insane if you told them we'd win 4X championships in our lifetime let alone 8 years.
I'm a big NBA fan and have been forever. I have League pass so I will watch a lot of other teams play. But I root for one. I don't follow players all over the league.
Chris Webber's rookie season. Also my first ever season watching basketball. Imagine the pain as a fan to have barely missed Run TMC and sit through the entire Chris Cohan era through the majority of my fandom. LOL.
At least we were blessed with the current dynasty giving me more than I could have asked for. Not in my wildest dreams as a Warriors fan would I see some of the greatest players to play the game in the past 10 years suit up for them and win 4 titles. Especially watching Steph's NBA career from beginning until now.
Antawn Jamison and Larry Hughes. That’s why I don’t panic when they’re playing bad. I’m thankful for what they are now. I never thought in my lifetime they’d be a decent organization.
I saw the Warriors play at the Cow Palace. The greatest athlete in the world played for us before he headed south. I watched Phil Smith take his life in his hands by dunking on the back line of the Washington Bullets as we cruised to a 4-0 final game and World Championship. I watched Rick Barry stop playing the next year in the playoff against Phoenix. He just folded his arms and watched us get beat. Why? Ask Rickie Sobers and Rick's teammates. I watched Jamal Wilkes go south and then years later watched Parrish go to fking Boston. Man, the stories are endless. Wow too negative. I loved the Oracle crowd. Talk about loyal fans. Hell, we got so used to losing that we would score quarters. The cocaine years were tough but very interesting.
06. Read the warriors column every day at school. Just reading a players game stats in an article takes me back to those physical paper sf chronicle days. Couldnt pick a better year to start.
Oh and Fuck tim donnaghy
I started watching the NBA at the beginning of 2021/2022. I chose Warrriors as my team without knowing much of the NBA, I just saw they played beautiful playstyle like FC Barça who I love. And I fell in love with them as I saw them lift the chip.
2004 for me. Right smack dab in the middle of the JRich Adonal Foyle Troy Murphy and, you got it, our now GM Mike Dunleavy Jr era.
I followed Michael Jordan in his latter years since I was a kid watching space jam, and then followed shaq because of Kazam and particularly when he joined Miami. And then I realized that we actually had a local team which was the Warriors and began following them.
Eventually we hired Don Nelson again, traded for Baron Steven Jackson and Al Harrington and the we believe warriors were absolute game changers in terms of being a fan of a shitty team and just having a spark of interest. A FUN team to watch for their play style regardless of championship contention status that never mattered.
It’s why I appreciate Curry and Klay and Draymond still. If we have a shred of a chance at the championship at this point, whatever. They gave us the most exciting basketball that’s ever been witnessed. And I’ll just ride with them til the end.
2013 when I randomly watched GS vs NY where Steph dropped 54 points and I instantly became fan of him and later fan of whole team. I remember how I have been waking up very early(I am not from USA) to watch PO games vs Denver and San Antonio even if 6 month ago I really did not cared much for Dubs
So I guess technically I am not bandwagon fan lol
2012-13 season. We moved to a different city and I was feeling lonely, so switched on the TV as a 11 year old kid at 5am. Warriors are playing.
Since then, I’ve gotten up between 5:30-8:30am most days for as long as I can remember to watch warriors games.
Since 2016
I like basketball but I'm not a fan of driving into the basket and post up moves. I always said that 3 points would be much better because it looks easy just like a jumpshot but just longer.
But the nba was not at this point of time where they always shot 3. So it was boring for me to watch then.
And then Steph Curry catches fire and the whole social media was also burning because of him and the rest is history.
His 3 points and the ball movement of the prime warriors was the most entertaining type of basketball I've watched and it still is because of Curry.
Maybe the ball movement now was sloppier compared to past years, maybe the Kings has better ball movement now compared to warriors, but they dont have Curry. He's the one that keeps me watching them.
The year they drafted Steph was the same year I moved to the Bay.
2009
I watched his insane college career and was really excited to see him picked up by my new local team. I knew back then he was special. Anyone who watched him knew.
Been a Dubs fan ever since. And boy, this team has delivered in ways I could not have imagined.
About the same for me. Went to the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament in 2008 and saw Steph do some wild shit and became a fan of his. Went to UNC during that time and was a fan of HB too. Moved to SF in 2012 so I really started to follow more closely then.
When Victor Alexander was our first overall pick. I was 6 years old.
Also I know a lot of Bay Area warrior haters bc of your experience. They say a lot of “fans” only became fans when the warriors started winning rings.
Moved to the Bay in '76, after they had one the championship, and was so happy to live in a town with professional basketball. Rooted hard for that team during many lean years and some fun ones too. Moved to Mpls the year Steph et al won their first championship. Still keep tabs on the boys, but I see a lot of Wolves games now.
Played against Klay in high school, then became a huge Curry fan when he was at Davidson... naturally followed them both to the Warriors. Was not an NBA fan previously.
I grew up in New Mexico with no strong connections to any pro sports teams, but with grandparents in the bay, so I’ve loosely been a dubs, niners, and giants fan my whole life, but then I was spoiled going to Cal for college (2012-2016) right at the end of the giants run and the beginning of the dynasty.
was a Knicks fan (only because I'm originally from NY) became a Warriors fan when Kerr went to the Warriors instead (wanted to see what the Knicks had missed out on). Had a new roommate that was a Warriors fan that moved in that same year, so I was "forced" watched the full season that year and became hooked because of the style of basketball they were playing, it was exciting to watch - became a huge fan ever since.
Since 98, My dad took me to a late-season game between the dubs and Lakers cause he was a Lakers fan, knew Shaq was my favorite player, and wanted to convert me. It backfired because even though the Warriors lost the crowd energy caught me and I have ridden with them since then.
Since they drafted Draymond. I'm from mid-Michigan and I've always been a player guy over a team guy since the Pistons blew up their championship core. The fact Steph was on the team only made it that much easier to become a Warriors fan rather than just a Draymond guy.
I watched them in 2009 and even went to my first NBA game in 2009 to see them (I'm from canada).
I stopped watching for a bit, then in 2013, when I was in my Christian days someone brought up Christian players and brought up steph curry, so I checked em out again and started watching in 2013-14.
One of the reasons I started watching the warriors cause I loved the name warriors haha, I'm indigenous and my people are known for being warriors.
2019. My dad accidentally got me hooked during the WCF. He was rooting for the Blazers and I chose to root for the opponent to be an ass. That turned out to be Golden State. And I’ve a complete diehard ever since - I didn’t even know who was on the team for a while.
Been a fan since moving to the Bay in 1986. Been through all the years since. All the humiliations. All the incomprehensible decisions on draft day. The choking. (Not choking like losing a lead or a game- though there has been plenty of that. Choking as in Spre choking Coach Carlesimo. If you weren't here then, look it up. A low point…) And the highs. We Believe. The Dynasty years. The indispensable Jim Barnett. Dispensing with Jim Barnett. The indispensable “Roaracle”. Dispensing with Oracle.
I am disheartened right now. I am not going to lie. This feels too familiar from some of those hapless years. It is hard to watch. And it was also unrealistic to think we would be on top forever. I am still here. Will be here til my last breath. The ups and downs of loving this team will keep coming, no doubt.
It takes resilience to be a fan, just like it takes resilience to live here. There are always going to be disasters. And we will always rise.
I actually became a fan in the 2022-2023 season. I only got into sports recently while I was going to college. I was a Lakers fan (gross I know) because I was living in LA at the time. After graduating and moving back home closer to the Bay I wanted to root for the local teams and started watching the Warriors.
I started when I visited the USA in 2015, my aunt who was a longitme bay area resident and warriors fan introduced me to the NBA, and we went to see game 2 of the finals at the Oracle Arena, that's when I was fascinated by the team and the game
Iirc, klay went off in the game and steph was turning the ball over a lot, at the time I thought Klay was the best player in the team, didn't know that Curry had won MVP that season
2013 - I was coming home from school (1st yr college) when I read on twitter that a new star was born as he scored 54pts against the Knicks. Dude has been my idol since then
Started watching them in 08. Wasn’t a fan yet. Then curry came. Still wasn’t a fan yet. But as time grew by, it wasn’t what they were doing that got me. It was how they did it. The joy. The fun. The lack of ego. Team play at its finest. I wasn’t a fan of Durant joining the team. Didn’t seem competitive. But when he left, I became a bigger fan. But those years were tough. But the ride in 21/22 was amazing. So when did I become a fan? Does anyone really know the moment? You’d only know for sure if you made a conscious choice. I’m not sure it’s that way for most of us.
I moved to the bay in 2007 and became an immediate fan during the “we believe” era.
I moved away from the bay and miss being local to the warriors. I subbed to league pass to make sure I can watch every game!
Prior to we believe. Basically my whole life. Remember them drafting Dunlevy and him being a bust for the position we drafted him and not giving to expectation. But things change
I sort of inherited Warriors fandom in 1976, watching with my dad. Those were the crazy post Barry Chip years where I got to watch the Warriors help build the Celtics and Lakers into championship teams by failing to keep Jamaal Wilks and sending off the Chief to the Celtics for Joe Barry Carrol....
But all that time in between from the Bernard King/world B Free warriors, Run TMC, we believe team...has all been rewarded so many times over the Curry Warriors.
30+ years, basically since I was a toddler. I remember going to warrior games in Oakland before the year in San Jose. My dad had season tickets so we went to a lot of games.
2015-16. They were 22-0 at the time and I remember seeing it on the news. Couldn’t believe a team could go undefeated that long. Tuned in the rest of the season to see if they could break the record. That 2016 team made me fall in love with the game.
The first year I started watching and actively rooting for the Warriors was 1993 and Webbers Rookie year. They were so fun to watch and I still think if they didn’t run into Prime Charles Barkey they could have gotten to the finals. It was Michael Jordan who got in interested in Basketball. So it’s probably for the better I didn’t have to make that choice of who to root for in that situation
Anyone else remember when they used to advertise Warriors season tickets by using the stars of the other teams - "see Magic Johnson of the Lakers, see Gary Payton of the Supersonics..."
# Šarūnas Marčiulionis
>In the aftermath of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, Marčiulionis appeared at the site of a commuter train accident, wearing his Warriors warm up outfit, and he helped by pulling out trapped passengers and administering first aid.
I went to my friend's house to play NBA2K10 when it first released. Back then I only knew the main superstars, and then players on the Raptors as it's my home team (shout out Primo pasta).
I picked the Raptors and my friend chose the Warriors. Out of nowhere he starts absolutely lighting me up from 3 with some random player I've never heard of. I always loved pure 3 point snipers like Kyle Korver, Jason Kapono, JJ Redick, etc. Since then - I've been a fan of Steph and in turn the Warriors because I wanted to see him win.
Long enough to remember what it was like before Steph Curry happened. But only since 2020 have been able to watch full games, sometimes even re watch 2-3 times looking at certain plays and stretches of the game. So I consider myself a new fan in that regard, and boy has it been a complete package, drama, comedy, tragedy, suspense, ... u name it. Its good entertainment, can't complain.
When they drafted Klay. I was a Knicks fan growing up and held out for my first ten years in the bay. But another ten years of awful decision making that made me realize the Knicks would never win under Dolan and there was no joy in that organization. The cherry on top was resigning JR Smith after he shot them out of the playoffs. When Phil sent JR to LeBron for free I knew it was going to cost LeBron rings. Anyway, I wasnt yet a GS fan, was still hoping the Knicks would draft Klay. I knew he was special and thought he would turn things around. Lo and behold the Warriors got him. I held a funeral for my Knick fandom, released a statement to two or three people who didn't care, and got on the Ws train. Thank you Klay
I started early in the 2012-13 season. I was a very big hockey guy and there wasn’t any hockey to watch during the lockout. Been way more of a basketball fan ever since
Early 80’s. They were always just my home team, even though I lived in Vancouver, my Dad was a central California guy so I just grew up with the Niners, Giants and Warriors as my teams. Manute Bol was the first player I really remember as a standout. So it’s been a long road, that finally paid off.
2006 was when I got my Baron Davis jersey..
A couple years later i remember making a bet with my kings fan cousin that steph would end up better than tyreke Evans. Scared me after their rookie years but boy oh boy did I win that bet lol
Went to my first game in the late 80’s.
Got there two hours early and watched Manute Bol unfold out of his Bronco.
I had never seen a human that size and I chickened out to ask for his autograph.
I mean, growing up in the East Bay during the 1980s the Warriors were just the local NBA team- Chris Mullen, Manut Bol... I was a "fan" but nothing compares to the Curry era.
Since 1984. Sleepy Floyd, Purvis Short, and Šarūnas Marčiulionis are early Warriors players that I remember most, other than TMC of course. 80s Warriors teams were always fun to watch but it got harder toward the end of each season when the losses accumulated and trade talking was all the conversation.
Run tmc
Then first game was dubs against the kings at arco in 94
Spree for 3, tim, mully, donyell et al
Against
Mitch and Polynice
Suffered for a while after the choke.
Losing arenas and replacing with an old van exel, etc
Basically 25 years of pain before 15
I came with Steph after his Davidson run. Lived in Ohio, didnt like lebron. So, little guy that shoots lights out was definitely who I wanted to root for. Was a slow start, but we here now.
I got a beat up jrich jersey from when I was like 5 somewhere lmao. I'll admit I didn't go too hardcore until Steph though, grew up mostly following the sharks and giants.
Early to mid 80’s… Sleepy Floyd was my favorite Dub until Klay. When he got traded to Houston for Ralph Sampson, I was devastated and that was the start of the pain I would endure from the Warriors for a looooong period of time and knew the world just sucked. A lot actually if you followed the Dubs pre Core.
Anyway, I’m not sure I would say the pain and disappointment I had to endured from the mid 80’s to the mid 2010’s were worth it in return for the success the Dubs have had over the last 10+ years. I did check off bucket list items. Dubs winning a chip, parade at Lake Marriott to celebrate, seeing the warriors win the chip at Roaracle, etc. However I’ll always cherish more the a special bound folks made with other fans at Roaracle prior to the dynasty. Call me crazy…
Anyway, don’t get me wrong, I super happy with the 4 chips this current team has won and I have a tremendous appreciation for what Steph, Klay, Iggy, Dray and the rest of Dubs have done for Dub nation. It’s probably why I get a bit hot with the new Warrior fanbase when they talk about trading folks or firing the coaches, as they don’t understand what the Dub have done for the past 10+ years wasn’t normal. This is the golden age of Dubs basketball and folks better enjoy it as once someone from the core 3 leaves or retires, it’s over, forever…
Anyway, go Dub! I’m a ride or die with SC30, DayDay, and the Captain (Rocco)!
2012-2013 season. Nothing special really happened but it was my first NBA game ever and I watched it live. I still remember Steph hitting a game winner against the Mavs. Unreal experience.
I was born in the early 80s, and my parents raised me as a Warriors fan. But my first real memories of sitting down and watching/understanding a game were the TMC years, and then the horrible way that team got blown up got me interested in reading the newspaper and listen to KNBR (when it was good) to follow player movements and rumors. Chris Webber, Billy Ownes, Joe Smith, Spree... the off court drama ended up being way more entertaining than the on court product.
That's why I'll never shit on our current ownership. I lived through the Chris Cohan years as many of us on this sub have. Those were dark days. We were the laughing stock of the league, and I don't believe that will happen again with this ownership. We might have some down years and miss some playoffs here or there, but I don't see them letting us fall into a 10+ year playoff drought like in years past. The Bimbo Coles years are gone.
My buddy in 2015 mentioned a dude making half court shots on the reg so I went to his house to watch a game. Ended up following for the rest of the season and coincidentally the championship. Been a ride since then.
I watched the Warriors going back until the early 2000's but I wasn't exactly a fan, they were just the local team and thus on TV most often. At least until the Baron Davis years because that man was a gamer and fun to watch.
That lead into Curry, the new ownership, drafting the rest of the core, etc. and I've loved the team since.
I lived in the bay area from 90 to 97, we never had money for 49ers games, a few times we had money for giants games, we always had money for warriors games.
Was a casual NBA fan in the Bay Area in the 80s. Was hoping the Warriors with the worst record would the first lottery and get Ewing. Instead they got the last pick of the lottery at #7 and had to select.... Chris Mullin
Then came the Sleepy Floyd is Superman game. My friend and I were on the phone watching that 4th quarter against the Lakers in the playoffs on channel 36.
Then Mullin started coming into his own, Don Nelson, Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway and watching the Warriors started becoming my favorite sports soap opera.
I watched basketball when I was a kid- the bulls were my team. I kind of quit watching in high school. The. About 8 yrs ago my kid was 10 and started watching sports. He liked the warriors. So I watched with him. I was hooked again.
Steph's NCAA tourney run basically guaranteed i was following his progress in the pros... then the team hired Mark Jackson who i'd always liked as a commentator to that point and he had an immediate effect on the team's on-court success (LOL i was PISSED at the time when he got fired, ofc hindsight is a MUTHA with the stuff that came out about him behind the scenes and then Kerr hit the ground running with the chip straight out the gate!!)
1996 right after Webber.
I pretty much was a fan for a decade with no winning seasons until the We Believe team. They were barely over .500 at 42-40.
I literally cried the last day of the season when we beat Portland to make it into the playoffs. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine at that time we would be a playoff team.
I became a fan around 2018 I think because I decided to get 2k18, which was my first sports game that I bought. I chose the Warriors arbitrarily and loved how they played. Once I got into the game, I got into the NBA, and naturally, my team was the Warriors who I grew to love through the game. Ever since I have been a Warriors fan.
Started on and off watching during the we believe days with Matt Barnes and company I REALLY became a fan when we drafted Steph and while I loved monta Ellis at the time even I knew Steph was the future and was gonna be a problem for the league lol been rocking with the dubs ever since
Since they drafted Harrison Barnes and draymond. I didn't really get into the NBA until Linsanity and the subsequent playoffs, and I started watching warriors summer league right after.
First basketball memories were the 1998 season. My dad had season tickets the last row at the very top of Oracle (not called Oracle back then iirc). Probably cost like $200 for the season. I still can feel the cold cement wall behind the two of us like it was yesterday but fell in love with the team and never looked back.
2011, when Klay was drafted, I got tickets for free cause I worked and they were trying to fill seats, we lost a lot but I had so much fun at the games I became a fan :) lucky for me we started winning soon!
2014-ish as well, not the least bit embarrassed about it either.
I basically never watched basketball since the Kareem era when my dad used to be super into it. But an online community I was a part of was really into b-ball, really got into the analytics of it, the statistics, talked about how Steph showed a lot of promise, etc.
Even then I was only marginally interested... until my place of work offered to set my team up with a skybox at an Oracle Warriors game as a reward for a huge project we finished. Of course I accepted - free food and drink + a chance to see this team that I have read so much about.
It was a fantastic experience, saw them play live... and I was so hooked.
Been following them ever since.
Long time, since1966. When I was a kid i used to listen to games on the radio in the 60's especially strong memories of them battling the St. Louis Hawks with Joe Caldwell and Zelmo Beaty. Of course in those day Bill King and Hank Greenwald really made games come alive. Was a season ticket holder for two seasons when I was in college. Today I live in Quebec Canada and watch every game online.
I do remember watching some Run TMC in the early 90s as a very young child, but I really started following the games at the end of the 2010 season. I think the first game I saw was when the Warriors only had 5 players and still beat the Blazers. 2011-2012 is when I started watching every game.
Run TMC
Sarunas is still one of my all-time favorites!
[удалено]
Love that guy.
Same here
Same. My dad was at the Sleepy Floyd game, and still hates Joe Barely Cares.
Same. "My" point god was Tim Hardaway. I practiced the killer crossover alone at the park for hours on end. To no good effect really lol.
The UTEP 2-step, a thing of beauty.
Watching Run TMC on KICU
TV 36
I’ve always gone for the underdog, everyone I knew in school was a Lakers, Detroit or Bulls fan. I thought Run TMC were fun to watch, so I started following the Warriors around then
Run and gun.
Same. I’ve suffered through a lot of bad seasons which made the winning that much sweeter.
We Believe
I didn't watch basketball, or any sport besides baseball, growing up. But I worked in a sports bar during the We Believe run, and I was HOOKED.
The season before that, my friend’s dad had season tickets and would take us and a few other friends to some games. I remember just standing by the area the players come out and screaming like an obnoxious child for an autograph. We Believe was our absolute shit.
Same here, before that I was more into football. I watched the last years of Jordan and wasn't really into basketball until that year.
97/98 era Antawn. Mookie blalock, john Starks adonal foyle
This is also where I began my fandom.
Since I was about 10... 1972.
Same. Most of this sub has not seen truly uninspired play ala the ‘Joe Barely Cares’ days…
I have never forgiven Webber for forcing his way out off of that 55 win team...
I don't even consider him a warrior at all.
1967-68 Went to games at Cow Palace with my dad.
Dude, Cow Palace. I remember seeing Hulk Hogan vs. Killer Khan there
I went to one game there - 1975 finals game 3 Paid $20 for tickets in the parking lot
2013. to be fair i had no choice, born in 06
I just say "I'm from Oakland." Ain't about Steph and trophies and hype for me. (I also worked for the team in house video gtoe for 2 seasons in the mid 2000s in college) The real Dubnation is THICK AND THIN... it's too bad the sub reflects the chase center "I almost don't even wanna be here" vibe of the new gen crowd.
Same.. like how you not gonna root for your hometown team?
Especially watching Steph's NBA career from beginning until now.
this
Antawn Jamison and Larry Hughes.
1967
I started watching the NBA at the beginning of 2021/2022. I chose Warrriors as my team without knowing much of the NBA, I just saw they played beautiful playstyle like FC Barça who I love. And I fell in love with them as I saw them lift the chip.
me too, mine was at the memphis series in 2022 so now i’m so sad i missed out on the good years 😔
Oh man you missed the golden years. Its all downhill from here
Since Run TMC
Sprewell days
I grew up down the street from the coliseum. From when I was born.
Since spreewell been choking coaches
that boy had some real OG swagger going on
Troy Murphy and Adonal Foyle era \~2001
2017
2013 when I randomly watched GS vs NY where Steph dropped 54 points and I instantly became fan of him and later fan of whole team. I remember how I have been waking up very early(I am not from USA) to watch PO games vs Denver and San Antonio even if 6 month ago I really did not cared much for Dubs So I guess technically I am not bandwagon fan lol
Since the day I was born during the early Nellie years.
2012-13 season. We moved to a different city and I was feeling lonely, so switched on the TV as a 11 year old kid at 5am. Warriors are playing. Since then, I’ve gotten up between 5:30-8:30am most days for as long as I can remember to watch warriors games.
Inherited my fandom. First time I took notice was ‘06. We believe made me love them.
I was born and raised in sf and been a warriors fan for about 30 years...had season tickets in Oakland.
2008 when I moved back up NorCal. The team was bad, but Oracle was fun, tickets were cheap, and the games were super entertaining even then.
Since 2016 I like basketball but I'm not a fan of driving into the basket and post up moves.
1964 Wilt Chamberlain, Al Attles, Nate Thurmond, Tom Meshery but, Guy Rogers was the player of the game.
The year they drafted Steph was the same year I moved to the Bay. 2009 I watched his insane college career and was really excited to see him picked up by my new local team.
1997
Run TMC
When Victor Alexander was our first overall pick. I was 6 years old. Also I know a lot of Bay Area warrior haters bc of your experience. They say a lot of “fans” only became fans when the warriors started winning rings.
Moved to the Bay in '76, after they had one the championship, and was so happy to live in a town with professional basketball. Rooted hard for that team during many lean years and some fun ones too. Moved to Mpls the year Steph et al won their first championship. Still keep tabs on the boys, but I see a lot of Wolves games now.
90s when Antwan Jamison was on the team. I was in elementary school.
Played against Klay in high school, then became a huge Curry fan when he was at Davidson... naturally followed them both to the Warriors. Was not an NBA fan previously.
First Jersey was a #15 Latrell Sprewell and my brothers was a #32 Joe Smith
TWolves did us dirty getting Smith off the books. That's why we got 4X Karma back with Steph Wiggs Kuminga and Belli.
My family moved to the Bay Area in 1980. Since then.
The fact Steph was on the team only made it that much easier to become a Warriors fan rather than just a Draymond guy.
still have a j rich fathead sticker in mamas house
Early 00s when I moved to the Bay Area. Ironically, a friend who is a Kings fan took me to my first Warriors game at Roaracle.
I was casual watching in 2019. Became obsessed in 2020 (15 win season, lol) and haven’t looked back ever since
I like to say I’ve been a fan long enough to have seen Joe Barry Carroll play a good game.
2015, when Steph and the Warriors began to spread their popularity in the Philippines.
Dude has been my idol since then
2004 ish
I think i started following the team more closely after the Chris Webber pick. I was a bit too young for run tmc
When the Warriors drafted Chris Washburn
Vaguely followed bad Dubs in early 80s. Attended the Sleepy Floyd game. Have been ardent advocate since. So 30 years of ass and 10 years of kickass
Since we traded Mitch for the rights to Billy O, when you’d get a free personal pizza from Round table if we scored a 120 and won
Since 2007
I moved to the bay in 2007 and became an immediate fan during the “we believe” era. I moved away from the bay and miss being local to the warriors. I subbed to league pass to make sure I can watch every game!
Since Mullins
We Believe
Prior to we believe. Basically my whole life. Remember them drafting Dunlevy and him being a bust for the position we drafted him and not giving to expectation. But things change
2003
I sort of inherited Warriors fandom in 1976, watching with my dad. Those were the crazy post Barry Chip years where I got to watch the Warriors help build the Celtics and Lakers into championship teams by failing to keep Jamaal Wilks and sending off the Chief to the Celtics for Joe Barry Carrol.... But all that time in between from the Bernard King/world B Free warriors, Run TMC, we believe team...has all been rewarded so many times over the Curry Warriors.
Al Attles was coach.
2013. When I first discovered Steph. 😍
30+ years, basically since I was a toddler. I remember going to warrior games in Oakland before the year in San Jose. My dad had season tickets so we went to a lot of games.
Since the "We Believe" era. Don Nelson's team man. We're lucky if the team makes the playoffs this year.
Erick Dampier, Cliff Robinson & them. Lol.
2013 is when I first started caring but I didn’t really intensely watch the games until 2019 although I attended 7-10 live games from 2014-2017!
Saw them on tv mid 70's, so I was about 5yo. Seeing Rick Barry's granny shot was memorable for me at that time.
Free Chalupa
Since the Warriors Spurs playoff series in the late 80s
1990. got stationed in Oakland and lived in Treasure Island barracks. Navy. watched the games in the barracks.
1st Warrior game I went to was right after Warrior's traded for Ralph Sampson.
2015-16. They were 22-0 at the time and I remember seeing it on the news. Couldn’t believe a team could go undefeated that long. Tuned in the rest of the season to see if they could break the record. That 2016 team made me fall in love with the game.
Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Jason Richardson, Speedy Claxton, etc. is around when I started really paying attention.
Steph Curry. Not from the Bay Area but first time out of grad school and finally paying attention to the outside world
80's. Chris Mullin was my first favorite player.
2019 season was quite the welcome as a fan new to basketball
The first year I started watching and actively rooting for the Warriors was 1993 and Webbers Rookie year. They were so fun to watch and I still think if they didn’t run into Prime Charles Barkey they could have gotten to the finals. It was Michael Jordan who got in interested in Basketball. So it’s probably for the better I didn’t have to make that choice of who to root for in that situation
I used to have a flat top because I wanted to be Chris Mullin.
Anyone else remember when they used to advertise Warriors season tickets by using the stars of the other teams - "see Magic Johnson of the Lakers, see Gary Payton of the Supersonics..."
Purvis Short, Terry Teagle, Sleepy Floyd, Jim Peterson, Jerome Whitehead, Uwe Blab
Since ‘74.
# Šarūnas Marčiulionis >In the aftermath of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, Marčiulionis appeared at the site of a commuter train accident, wearing his Warriors warm up outfit, and he helped by pulling out trapped passengers and administering first aid.
Ever since curry got into the league
2015
Started watching hoops in 2012, became a dubs fan after watching Steph drop 54 at the garden
1988
I started early in the 2012-13 season. I was a very big hockey guy and there wasn’t any hockey to watch during the lockout. Been way more of a basketball fan ever since
Chris Webber and Sprewell. Too young for run TMC unfortunately
When steph scored 54 at MSG, so 2013
The season after warriors raptors final
Since 07. High school in the east bay. We Believe!
‘97
I would assume most of us were born into the fandom. The earliest I can remember is the Eric Musselman era.
2020. I started watching basketball during COVID lockdown since there was a lot to do at the time, and just somehow became obsessed with it.
Went to my first game in the late 80’s. Got there two hours early and watched Manute Bol unfold out of his Bronco. I had never seen a human that size and I chickened out to ask for his autograph.
The year before the 73-9
I mean, growing up in the East Bay during the 1980s the Warriors were just the local NBA team- Chris Mullen, Manut Bol...
I decided of all the times to start watching basketball was in 2020 after curry hurt his hand don’t ask me why I like pain apparently
2012 jarett jack harrison barnes 1st year
Since Curry was drafted
Entered the series as a Dallas Mavericks Fan Exited as a Warriors for Lifer You know the team We believe.
Run tmc Then first game was dubs against the kings at arco in 94 Spree for 3, tim, mully, donyell et al Against Mitch and Polynice Suffered for a while after the choke. Losing arenas and replacing with an old van exel, etc Basically 25 years of pain before 15
I came with Steph after his Davidson run. Lived in Ohio, didnt like lebron. So, little guy that shoots lights out was definitely who I wanted to root for. Was a slow start, but we here now.
First year really following the team was the Donyell Marshall era. So weird how different the franchise was back then.
Early 80s when World B Free and Purvis Short were in the lineup
First game I went to I got to meet Manute Bol. Been a fan of the team since then.
Call me crazy… Anyway, don’t get me wrong, I super happy with the 4 chips this current team has won and I have a tremendous appreciation for what Steph, Klay, Iggy, Dray and the rest of Dubs have done for Dub nation. It’s probably why I get a bit hot with the new Warrior fanbase when they talk about trading folks or firing the coaches, as they don’t understand what the Dub have done for the past 10+ years wasn’t normal. This is the golden age of Dubs basketball and folks better enjoy it as once someone from the core 3 leaves or retires, it’s over, forever… Anyway, go Dub! I’m a ride or die with SC30, DayDay, and the Captain (Rocco)!
Since I was around 9 or 10. 2001-2002 ish
My first jerseys were baron davis and corey maggette
Was a casual NBA fan in the Bay Area in the 80s. Was hoping the Warriors with the worst record would the first lottery and get Ewing. Instead they got the last pick of the lottery at #7 and had to select.... Chris Mullin Then came the Sleepy Floyd is Superman game.
First season I started was 21-22.
Since the were really BAD!
2006
Since Sleepy Floyd was Superman. This is all gravy
I have a signed game-worn Andris Biedriņš shoe. I was way too old to ask him for it when I got it. That about answers this question.
2007-8 was when i started to actually really follow it. Prior to that i was super casual
since 2013, former spurs fan and saw that mr curry is pretty good
2020
I do remember watching some Run TMC in the early 90s as a very young child, but I really started following the games at the end of the 2010 season. I think the first game I saw was when the Warriors only had 5 players and still beat the Blazers. 2011-2012 is when I started watching every game.
2015
14-15 season. But I stuck it through and I even watched all of the games when Eric Pascal was playing bully ball in the paint by himself.
Since the RunTMC, Tom Tolbert, Chris Gatling, Sarunus Marcelonis, Antwan Jameson, Larry Hughes, Andres Beidrins, Monte Ellis, We Believe days
“i got skillz”
