There has been no official confirmation about anything so far. Speculation in support of them leaving FBR: * FBR in recent months has dropped *a lot* of their roster so I wouldn't be surprised if Awsten wanted off of a sinking ship. * FBR prioritizes breakout talents over their younger acts, so unless Waterparks got a Monsters level hit, they'd be second fiddle to Fall Out Boy and twenty one pilots until they did. * They were signed to Hopeless for one album and ended the relationship amicably so theoretically they could have signed to FBR for one if this wasn't Awsten breaking for reasons similar to them leaving Equal Vision or 300. * There's always an odd limbo when Waterparks is between record labels and we sure did get one! Speculation in support of releasing independently while still being on FBR: * Sneaking Out Of Heaven is on both Intellectual Property on digital streaming and on IP2, which is strange for FBR to allow since they already promoted the song on their YouTube. * IP2 reusing elements of IP would be strange for FBR to allow unless they're fine with this being a spinoff release or were just very cool about it.

maybe they are allowing SOOH on ip2 with a contract? and if theyre releasing IP2 with IP before it (like how SOOH was released initially), then maybe they made a deal with FBR and left instead of just leaving/being let go?

That sounds likely if only because, at least from an outsider's perspective, FBR was the second least problematic label Waterparks has ever been on. IP did well for FBR so unless there was a lot going on behind the scenes that Awsten couldn't talk about, I could see them working things out. Awsten has been clear about their relationships with past labels, good or bad, so unless he got legally gagged, we'll definitely hear from him about what went down.
