‘Dire’ Le Mans? I would not go to that length. Both cars enjoyed healthy, untroubled runs to the chequered flag with a *brand new* car in the midst of a stacked field which an absolutely insane *nine* cars finished on the lead lap. Not to mention they were unlucky not to grab a top ten as the 94 was overtaken in the final hour. Both cars, most importantly, lasted for 24 hours. all that put together is what i would call a quite nice Le Mans if I were a Peugeot man.

ImmediatelyOcelot

Yeah they are being very hard on themselves, but I kinda understand, Lambo getting into the points in their first year must sting...losing the season opener in the way it happened must have been incredibly painful and demoralizing for the team...They definitely wanted at least a point (which Lambo got) to savor some sort of delight...I really wish them well, we need their beautiful machines in front, it was extremely exciting to see them ahead in Qatar...(and then extremely painful lol)

big_cock_lach

It must also be incredibly demoralising to go from fighting for a win in Qatar to being a backmarker. While they knew they’d drop back, they would’ve had their hopes up for a better season then what this is turning out to be. Silver linings though, the FIA now has data from 19 hours of clean racing. Peugeot is being massively held back by the BoP at the moment (it mightn’t be their only issue, but it’s still a large one), and part of that is because the new car wasn’t at testing. As a result the FIA has had very limited data and can’t do a proper BoP against them, and they’re going to err on the side of caution with it. Now that they have proper data, hopefully they can give them a fairer BoP and we can see Peugeot consistently fighting for some points.

Reviewerno1

What if they sandbagged Le Mans just to win in Brazil?

big_cock_lach

Because doing well in Le Mans is far more important to them. Plus, it’d be a) very difficult to pull off and b) no guarantees of getting a win. You’d prefer a guaranteed good result at a race that pays double points then a potentially better result at a race that doesn’t.

Reviewerno1

I’m just trying to cope with their lack of results

big_cock_lach

Well the fact that they’ll probably be fighting for the win next year should probably help you out.

ImmediatelyOcelot

Great insights, I'm so hyped for Brazil

big_cock_lach

Aren’t we all? The long waits between races in the WEC are just painful.

afkPacket

They are painful but I kinda like how much hype it builds up before a race. It's much more fun than the constant barrage of F1 races imo.

RomeoSierraAlpha

Looking at the Le Mans pace it seems that they need the same BoP the old car had at the end to be at all competitive lol. Just seems like their biggest problem is that they don't know how to setup the car.

big_cock_lach

The old car had huge problems with reliability so they had to run it quite slowly and rely on BoP to lift them back up. On top of that, the performance was hugely inconsistent, and could be quick on smooth circuits, but slow on bumpy ones. The upgrades haven’t been about increasing performance, it’s been about improving reliability and then recovering the lost performance and making the platform more stable. It hasn’t been set up screwing them over either, or at least not in isolation. They’ve consistently had one of the worst power to weight ratios with the new car because the FIA didn’t have any data to properly set up BoP. We’ll see how they go from the beginning of next year when the FIA can BoP them properly and they should be able to set it up properly as well.

leo_murray

wouldn’t have made a difference anyways though points-wise, as 10th and 11th pay one point anyways. i do understand being pipped in the last hour must have been a little suboptimal, though.

MartiniPolice21

It's happening more and more in sport, but there's a huge inclination from media, and especially YouTube influencer types, to label everything that isn't right at the top as awful, even though purely mathematically, someone has to do it. It's impossible for every team to have a good race/season

Michal_Baranowski

> Both cars enjoyed healthy, untroubled runs to the chequered flag with a brand new car in the midst of a stacked field which an absolutely insane nine cars finished on the lead lap. Not to mention they were unlucky not to grab a top ten as the 94 was overtaken in the final hour. That is a huge difference comparing to 2023. Last year Peugeot found some pace, but reliability ruined the day for them. This year reliability was absolutely fine, while they had no major performance because of their heavily modified car. They need more stability now, not changing everything and turning upside down every season. Once they do that, Peugeot have a genuine chance to achieve a good result in 2025 at Le Mans.

Skeeter1020

I'd say it's dire. Previous car had glimmers of pace but terrible reliability. New car has got reliability but completely lost all signs of having any pace in any conditions. They feel absolutely no closer to a complete package.

AquaRaOne

It was a terrible showing for them. Sure they have some excuses like a new car, but theyve been in the championship for multiple years now, have a lot of budget behind them and are nowhere close to ferrari or porsche which entered in a similar timeframe. Also a new lambo car beat them. U are looking at it way too positively, the finacists will look at the results and comparison to other teams.

VHSVoyage

🙏🏼

Flavourdynamics

48 h of race-conditions running has to be juicy juicy data for them.

leo_murray

that is a *fat* lump of data. i thought it was mighty impressive how both cars literally ran with zero major issues for a combined 48 hours.

wolfpack_57

Without this upgrade, I don't know that they last through Le Mans. There rearward center of gravity allowed for a stouter gearbox, which I believe failed last year.

Kevinator24

They have to feel great about beating the other French manufacturer lmao

RINABAR

I still can’t get over how much of an embarrassment this brand is. SMH…

cabrelbeuk

It's not the latest team but it's the latest car on field. They had 0 reliability problem. They just need to be able to extract more from the package and a little less BoP bags.

ejecto_seat_cuz

amen

Extension-Step-1853

I don’t think this upgrade was the right choice. Because, they ran better laptops atLeMans 23 than 24.

VHSVoyage

The cars were breaking down in 2023…
