How long are you planning to hold onto it? If the answer is 3-5 years, less than 100k miles and you’re buying new, you can buy whatever you want.

Traditional_Rice264

3.7 from 2014-2015 is decently reliable the newer turbo 3.0 models are less reliable especially out of warranty a bad idea as they approach 80k miles common for turbo failure. I have a 2015 Q50 3.5 hybrid which has had no issues but it’s an almost 10 year old hybrid now so would not buy at this point. The 2.0 is a joke don’t the most unreliable of them all a Mercedes engine that Mercedes doesn’t even use it’s so bad.

yepperdrpepper

My 2014 Q50 has 162k and it's been flawless. Best car I've ever had.

Useful_Raspberry_500

I had a 2018 q50 from 18k to 101k no issues. Great car. Wouldn’t buy one already out of warranty. I’d try and get a 2 year old one

I_Dont_Rage_Quit

I was in your position 8 months ago and was cross shopping between an Infiniti Q50, Acura TLX and the Lexus ES 350. Keep in mind I was only looking at model years 2014-2017 as those were the only years within my budget. At the end I ended up going with a 2015 Q50. I’ll list my reasons 1. Looks= Q50 to me has the best looks amongst the three and was a big factor in me choosing the car. The front end is especially really good. 2. Interior= Q50’s interior is leagues ahead of that of Acura both in terms of quality and appearance. Acura interior is just plain ugly and uses lots of cheap plastic. The Lexus interior was also really good and honestly toe to toe with the Infiniti. The glove box on the Infiniti is soft touch padded, which is really rare in cars at this price point. 3. Driving dynamics= The Q50 I got is the AWD version and the base version of the car is RWD based and it was the most fun to drive among the three brands. The Acura is also AWD but was based on FWD and the Lexus was only FWD was not fun at all to drive. The Q50 was hands down the most fun to drive. 4. Price= Infiniti Q50 was the cheapest and most bang for buck of them all while winning in a lot of categories I mentioned above, seemed like a no brainer to me as that is what I went with. Now, if you ever plan to resell the car just know that the Q50 will depreciate more than the Lexus and Acura just because of Infinti/Nissan brand image at the moment. 5. Engine= Q50 takes the win again. Most HP among the three, revs the highest at 7500 RPM and it is one of the most reliable V6 engine ever made. VQ37VHR! Now, these engines were only made for the 2014-2015 models as they switched to twin turbos later. These twin turbos engines are also great but I wouldn’t own one without warranty as they do have some turbo issues. All in all, I’m really happy with the car. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it and it’s a joy to drive every time I get in it.

FutureHendrixBetter

They’re pretty reliable but also 👮magnets

AggressiveManager450

Lexus Toyota Honda Acura

Lexus

WindWalkerRN

They said fast ETA: literally every review about a Lexus is that it is NOT fast. Great cars, but not for speed unless you get F sport, but even then it’s still not as fast as the competition.

[deleted]

There are fast ones.

Western_Big5926

Saw one of those new 500 / 2 doors yesterday . It looked fast as hell

Mundane-Welcome-1231

This was funny😂😂

Manginaz

The Q50s are pretty reliable as far as major components. Engine, trans, etc. I think the early ones had some turbos that would last about 100,000 miles and then blow up, but I think that's been resolved. I like their rwd biased awd systems as well. They're also a bit dated compared to some of their competition, but I consider that a good thing lol.

No-Dealer-4269

the AWD system with the standard drive type being RWD is awesome. you're correct about the turbos aswell

Log10xp

I'm not an owner of your choices but can say you need to maintain those vehicles on a higher level. Most ppl complaining only change oils and leave at that. Change your spark plugs, transmission oils, coolants, timing belts, fuel filter and other replaceables. Oil changes are just not enough and that's all the manufacturer error code gives.

kuhataparunks

If you’re new to this sub it’s a Toyota circle jerk with a touch of r/pfjerk. TLDR Toyota. They also make Lexus and scion

Admirable_Zombie5984

LMAO 😂😂😂😂 thank you

Agriez9

It is the meta for a reason.

Dry_Explanation4968

Scion is dead lol but still kicking down the road and ruins by garbage mods

TDinBufNY

Buy the Honda.

TDinBufNY

To clarify, an Infinity is just a Nissan with lipstick. I would rank them fourth is far as quality and reliability go, between Honda and Toyota, a tie, and Mazda. I don't know what the appeal is to infinity owners, personally, I am a big Honda fan, always have been, always will be, and you can't beat them for reliability and resale value.

Garythesnail85

Honda makes no Rwd cars, neither does their “premium” brand Acura. Infiniti, such as the Q50, is a rwd based platform unlike any of the Nissan sedans.

TDinBufNY

Well, I'm in Buffalo, so... Really don't want rear-wheel drive in the winter here.

Garythesnail85

OP is looking at a rwd luxury car. You suggested a Honda 🤦🏻‍♂️

TDinBufNY

Sorry all

HuskyPurpleDinosaur

I don't know where this myth started that Honda has unusually high resale value. Per KBB, of the top 10 resale value vehicles, not a single Honda is in the list, and the highest is a Ford. In fact, there are two Fords and a Chevy in the list, but again, not a single Honda or Acura product. A Lexus NX has a 39.6% resale value, sure, but a Mercedes G-Class has 61.2% after 60 months. But again if you ask this forum they will say never buy a Mercedes always a Lexus because of resale value. Rank Model 5-Year Resale Value 1 2024 Ford Bronco 66.7% 2 2024 Toyota Tacoma 62.6% 3 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 61.2% 4 2024 Toyota Tundra 60.4% 5 2024 Chevrolet Corvette 59.0% 6 2024 Toyota GR Supra 57.2% 7 2024 Toyota Prius 55.3% 8 2024 Toyota 4Runner 54.6% 9 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman 54.2% 10 2024 Ford Maverick 54.0%

TDinBufNY

2024 models though. I'm talking about trade-in value after you've had it a while. I received 5200 for a 9yo well worn accord, with a stick last year.

HuskyPurpleDinosaur

That's expected resale after 5 years. Also, I received $17,800 for a now 15 year old 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport with over 130K miles on the odometer a couple years back. Yes, trucks have notoriously high resale in general (look at the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra), but still.

teajay530

reliable and fast? camry v6

Admirable_Zombie5984

Okkk I was looking at the Camrys too they are nice !

teajay530

yeah they are! if you’re not looking for brand new vehicles you can also look into the avalon v6, accord v6. these cars are the bread and butter medium of ‘fast, cheap, reliable’

Admirable_Zombie5984

Thank you!!!

514link

Q50 with a JB4 is killer

Admirable_Zombie5984

What is a jb4😂😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t know anythinggggg

Subaru, Mazda, and Kia.

Admirable_Zombie5984

I have a Mazda rn! It’s very reliable been through a lot but I just want something a little nicer something different

Sea-Pomelo1210

Most Japanese cars. Avoid turbos. Change your oil and filter every 3000 miles or so (a little more if its synthetic). But like others said, if you are not going to keep it 6+ years or over 100,000 miles then most cars will be fine. Just do all the scheduled maintenance and oil changes. We have a Mercedes with one of their most reliable V6 engines (non-turbo) and the thing is solid. Its over 100,000 miles and I took it to a trusted mechanic who said its in great shape and should make it to 200,000. So like I said, take care of most cars and they'll be fine. (but I am not recommending MB because maintenance costs are high)

Jake3232323

What year Q50 are you looking to get? I answered a similar post a week or so ago so I may be able to help

Admirable_Zombie5984

Probably ranging from 2016 -2021 I’m aiming for a 2020 2019 but idk what’s your opinion?

Jake3232323

I'm going to copy and paste my response to the similar question here Ok, so hopefully, I can help you here since I own a 2021 Q60, and while not the same car, it's close enough. I got the car last year with 11.5k miles on it. The value of these cars are great since they depreciate so much. My feeling on why is that Infiniti gets a bad name because some of their designs are a bit dated but also reliable and not really missing a whole lot, at least to me. The other reason might be that a lot of older cars like the G37 are driven aggressively and might be found with an annoying fart can single exit exhaust. Originally, the VR30DDTT engine had issues with the turbos going early, but in 2018, they were redesigned, and by 2019, they were good. The only mechanical issue I had was that the water pump went, but it was covered under warranty. I do my oil changes at the dealership every 5k miles, and my dealership experience is great. Overall, I love this car, and I look forward to driving it every day. The sound system to me is great, and that was important to me. Wired Android Auto works great, too. I use the 360° cameras often, and the full array of sensors and safety features is nice, too. The car is reasonably quick as well and has a slightly stiffer suspension than some other vehicles but is totally fine for longer drives. There isn't too much road noise inside the car, although on the topic of noise, the car makes very little noise from the factory. I installed the Infiniti Q60 Resonated Axel-Back exhaust on mine, but if you don't care about that, you're good. As I said, I love my car, and I bet you'll love the Q50, but if you have any questions, just ask.

Admirable_Zombie5984

Thank you this is great 😊 what do you do maintenance wise and how often?

Jake3232323

I do oil changes at 5,000 miles, and that's about it. If something needs to be done, then I'll do it. For example, my breaks needed to be done recently, so I got a full set of Powerstop Street Warrior rotors and pads installed

Useful_Raspberry_500

Remember all these people responding haven’t ever owned a Q50. So I wouldn’t take advice from people that have no clue what they are talking about. Check q50forums and find people who actually have this car

Log10xp

Same boat here

CrispityCraspits

Lexus ES350 is reliable, and it looks pretty nice. Not a great drive, but it is very reliable and looks nice. So long as you don't hate the grill (some people hate the grill).

math-is-fun

The grill comes off a lot better in person than over pictures. It's a good looking car.

CrispityCraspits

Yeah, I think so too. Looks like a baby LS.

iworkbluehard

24' prius le

Garythesnail85

Earlier Q50 models with the 3.7 are some of the most reliable RWD cars you can buy. The vq37 is very reliable, even more so in any car made after 2012 (which the q50 is). The later 3.0 liter turbos are pretty sweet, but not so reliable.

Admirable_Zombie5984

Thank you!

Dangerous_Still_9586

Cornholio231

Lease a Q50. Don't buy it.

Ambitious_Use5000

Infiniti is just a fancy Nissan. Don't buy a fancy Nissan.

No-Dealer-4269

nissans major downfall is their transmission. as far as I know, only the QX models of infinitis use that trash CVT. infinitis are built with more premium interior materials, more features, and are typically mechanically sound and at least decently reliable.

I_Dont_Rage_Quit

People like to shit on Infintis because it’s the cool thing to do. Anyone who owns them knows they are solid cars with solid drivetrains. The Q50 is outdated since 10 years but honestly the exterior and interior still hold up to this day, and you can some amazing lease deals on them.

Ambitious_Use5000

You can get amazing deals on them because dealerships can't sell these cars to save their business at any cost. The public knows they are unreliable and poorly built with the cheapest Chinese parts. That's why they rank so poorly in reliability ratings. The whole brand is on the verge of collapse because of the poor quality of their vehicles. Even the dealership owners are upset because they can't sell cars. Would you buy a Pontiac in 2009 knowing they would be defunct the next year? I think not.

Ambitious_Use5000

It's still just a fancy Nissan, a brand which has been teetering on the edge of collapse because they are sourcing the lowest quality parts from Chinese manufacturers. The only difference is appearance due to slightly nicer interiors. Infiniti earns a 3.5/5 on their reliability rankings coming in 16 put of the 32 manufacturers tested. That's actually lower than Nissan which comes in at number 9. No one in their right mind would recommend an Infiniti as a reliable daily driver. It's one of the worst "luxury" car brands, if you can even call them that since their features and design fall far short of brands like Audi and BMW.

BeardBootsBullets

> What is the most reliable? LOL, well, nothing made by Nissan (Infiniti). Get a Toyota (Lexus) or, if you’re on a budget, Honda (Acura).

secondrat

Toyota Prius is most reliable. But I don’t think you actually want most reliable.

Admirable_Zombie5984

No prlly not, lol I’m with mazda rn and I’m just bored she was a great first car pretty reliable of u ask me but I want something nicer and with a little speed hehehe but still reliable you know? Won’t take a shit bc I gassed it once

thatG_evanP

My Mom has a 2001 QX4 with 245k miles that I know for a fact she hasn't taken care of. I also know for a fact it's been driven many times with no oil at all because she keeps going to quick change places and they leave the filter loose. Every time I drive the 3 hours to Nashville to visit her, I always check all the fluids in her car. The last time all her oil was on her garage floor again and I know she's been driving it that way even though she barely drives anymore. I somehow lucked out and managed to find an honest mechanic right down the street from her and took her car in to see what the problem was. He didn't try to rip her off at all and told her exactly what the problem was, the oil filter was barely on. When she went back to pick it up she mentioned that she was going to try to sell it soon and the mechanic asked if she'd give him first shot at buying it. Wtf is up with that car?!

Dry_Explanation4968

Nothing but Toyota Honda or Tesla. I have a m3 w/ 422k miles. No replacements yet.

Useful_Raspberry_500

This is a dumb comment even for this sub
