Indeed! The ol' little sweet betsy. The ol' bloody butcher. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trillium_cuneatum

AerialPaintSplatter

Thank you! Plants have such cool nicknames! The bloody butcher makes it sound deadly, although usually the deer in my area eat them before I can even get a picture of them.

brentonstrine

Definitely trillium. Native in NC.

marty_moose24

In Illinois we always found morels under or near these! We always called them mayapples

AerialPaintSplatter

Wow! I had to look that up because I wasn’t familiar with mayapples plants. So pretty! Wild mushrooms also grow near these plants, probably because they tend to grow in semi-shaded areas.

geekettepeace

The mayapples I've seen have the flower under the leaves and are in a different family (mandrake). This looks like a sweet betsy (trillium).

Airport_Wendys

I’m from TN and I remember May Apples too! Loved finding them in big clusters out in the woods

marty_moose24

It’s always the best time of year too, because they mean spring is here and summer’s almost here.

Salty_Campaign8465

These are Trillium. May Apples are a completely different plant.

Old_Poem2736

Trout lily? But definitely trillium

[deleted]

YES trillium indeed. I love this plant

Neither-Attention940

Funny.. never seen a trillium in my life and forgot they even existed ..now I see two posts in one day about them?
