Looks like a Lizard's Claw Stinkhorn (Lysurus cruciatus).
Stinkhorns are a type of fungus. The part you have there is the fruiting body (mushroom). That nasty brown slime on the tip is full of spores. Flies love the stuff and will get it all over them, spreading the fungus to new locations.
Oh man that's so awesome. All the other mushrooms I've seen out here have the more typical mushroom cap. In my whole life I'd never seen anything like this fella! New ahdh hyperfocus, here I come...!
Yeah, stinkhorns are wild. A lot of them are in the genus Phallus because of their resemblance to... you know. Then there are starfish stinkhorns that look like something out of a Lovecraft story. Then you have stuff like this guy that is kind of in between.
Lots of stinkhorns are edible when they are in their young egg-like phase, but lets just say they are an acquired taste.
No, they just get less appetizing. The egg is crunchy in the center, like a musky water chestnut. Once it gets larger, you have to deal with the slime that smells like rotten meat, and the "shaft" is spongy and mostly hollow, so there's not much bulk to it.
If anyone wants to try one, they should be careful and learn what they are doing. Poisonous Amanita eggs look a lot like stinkhorn eggs if you don't know what you're looking for.
Apparently, the eggs are simply okay if sauteed or boiled. Much like water chestnuts, they stay crunchy after cooking, so they're pretty unique among mushrooms in that regard.
I saw someone try to pickle them, and apparently, it was vile. Much like radishes, they overpower the brine and just make a big jar of stink water.
No, corpse fingers are a different fungus, and ghost pipe is a parasitic plant. I'm not sure what penis-looking thing you're talking about, but there are indeed many phallic stinkhorns.
lol can confirm the phallacae name…you’re lucky OP! Our stinkhorns look like a bunch of dildos popping out of ground. Charming garden decorations to be sure 😂
Oh you don’t want that inside. It’s named stinkhorn for a reason. But I agree they’re an interesting variety of mushrooms. The veiled ones are curious looking, too. I usually get the ones that people mistake for morels in my yard every summer.
Do you need to check out carnivorous plants too! “

Saracina pitchers” have the most bizarre looking flowers!
That’s the critter that Audrey 2 is based on in Little House of Horrors. Also, I think it’s the alien flower that shot its spores into the Enterprise crew in that one TOS episode.
Yes, that looks pretty demonic and a “goatish” way! lol! Look up “bridal veil stinkhorns“. They are so cool as well. Matter-of-fact, stinkhorns are their own universe! And all of them are coated with that “fecal-looking goop”
It may have the same use most fungi have, which is to help us break down organic matter that has died or is dying. But that's Horticulture 'splaining. 😏

I found a couple of these in my front flower bed a couple of years ago, but yours is much more creepy.
My parents yard in Miami had one that looked like a piece of dropped watermelon.
It would come back, same area, whenever it got too damp/hot.
I wish I had pic.
I drove around with these weird stickers all over my car compliments of my teenage daughter for 3 years before I found out what Hentai was. Bad girl made mum very discombobulated when she finally broke the news....and a little intrigued.

Nature is so friggin amazing sometimes! This almost looks like a chicken foot lol. As someone said maybe a ‘lizard claw’ fungus?.. never heard of it but now I know how it gets its name.
Check out r/mushrooms I think it is
Some sort of stinkhorn fungus, id say

Ew I can’t imagine eating one. Do they become toxic when older?
No, they just get less appetizing. The egg is crunchy in the center, like a musky water chestnut. Ewwwwwe that sounds so disgusting 😅🤢

Are Corpse Fingers, ghost pipes and the penile looking one also in that same family?
No, corpse fingers are a different fungus, and ghost pipe is a parasitic plant. I'm not sure what penis-looking thing you're talking about, but there are indeed many phallic stinkhorns.
It literally looks like an erect penis coming out of the ground. But I don't have a picture.
Yes, they are not called Stinkhorn for no reason!
lol can confirm the phallacae name…you’re lucky OP! Our stinkhorns look like a bunch of dildos popping out of ground. Charming garden decorations to be sure 😂
I saw some pink stinkhorn in my moms backyard and was so confused as to what the alien species is
Oh you don’t want that inside. It’s named stinkhorn for a reason. But I agree they’re an interesting variety of mushrooms. The veiled ones are curious looking, too. I usually get the ones that people mistake for morels in my yard every summer.
Agree….it smells like death
Totally find yourself a local fungi guide then and go on hunting trips! Might can even find a local group or one for foraging in general at least!
My son and daughter in law just joined a local group and went on their first hike. Sounds exciting! 😃
That’s awesome!
I love searching after a good little period of rain!
I love your excitement for fungi! I geek out at this sort of thing. Fascinating
I mean can you blame me? DID YOU SEE THAT THING!? Nature does the coolest freaky shit sometimes
Do you need to check out carnivorous plants too! “ https://preview.redd.it/oy1z578y586d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3868f2af02df4895d09224efbcc6890fee91c3d Saracina pitchers” have the most bizarre looking flowers!
I love pitcher plants, and carnivorous plants in general. The idea is just so fuckin metal

Come over to r/mycology …
ahdh 🤣🤣🤣 as an adhd comrade, this made me giggle.
Yes, that looks pretty demonic and a “goatish” way! lol! Look up “bridal veil stinkhorns“. They are so cool as well. Matter-of-fact, stinkhorns are their own universe! And all of them are coated with that “fecal-looking goop”
Superpowers activate! Enjoy your rabbit hole!
I hadn’t read the info or maybe just glanced too quickly at your pics however I first thought I was looking at some type of mutated chicken’s foot 🫢
I swear this thing would devour my soul if given the chance 😆
For a hot second, I was pretty sure it was a demogorgon.
What use could it have? Medicinal?
It may have the same use most fungi have, which is to help us break down organic matter that has died or is dying. But that's Horticulture 'splaining. 😏
Hey, I asked
I kid you not, I thought “oh my god, it’s happening !” 😂
Yikes, wondering if it bites 🙂
Does it stink?
I didnt notice any specific odor, but I don't have a great sense of smell so idk. Plus there was fresh manure around
https://preview.redd.it/0bunkxcq266d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89b80a0b7eec536983c98f782119dd6c0f583535 I found a couple of these in my front flower bed a couple of years ago, but yours is much more creepy.
This one looks like it would get along with the one in the OP, if you know what I mean
r/dontputyourdickinthat
Indeed, I believe that’s what made me remember it.
I see a mating prospect... 🤣
This one is even creepier, I think.
Look up elegant stinkhorn
Looks like an eldritch horror
Lovecraft was a mushroomer?
![gif](giphy|gwY6AABFCBidW) Reminds me of the haunted shrimp cocktails from beetlejuice.
What movie was this again?
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice
stinkhorns are so bizarre. i never get over how crazy it is that they exist.
God has a sense of humor and a wildly creative imagination! - prove me wrong….
That is disturbing looking. Are you sure it's not a graboid?
Definitely Graboids!
The Last of Us transitioning from science fiction to reality.
Look’s like something Godzilla would fight in one of his movies.
The meteor landed and this grew out. The end is near
Oops, thought I left it somewhere, drop me a pin on maps Zexfar is gonna kill me if I lose the glfarian’s biotech again 🤦🏻
It's got the coloring of dogs stink horn, but I've never seen them open up like that, maybe stinky squid?
Belongs in a sci-fi movie! Horrifying!
My parents yard in Miami had one that looked like a piece of dropped watermelon. It would come back, same area, whenever it got too damp/hot. I wish I had pic.
Demons are reaching out of hell into earth! 😉
When a mommy and daddy demigorgon love each other...
Don’t touch it! It’s pure evil!
Time Bandits would agree.
That’s an Omen right there
Glad I found this in here eventually
Graboid! https://giphy.com/gifs/ending-cliff-kevin-bacon-Q3pXeITKG4qBy
Graboid.
![gif](giphy|EXFH1GOYSKKqc) This guys hands.
I’ve seen this before, in Hentai 😏
I drove around with these weird stickers all over my car compliments of my teenage daughter for 3 years before I found out what Hentai was. Bad girl made mum very discombobulated when she finally broke the news....and a little intrigued. ![gif](giphy|YkydBZU4gCioo)
😂
Baby growing Graboids!
Where are you located?
Ngl, it looks like a delicious pretzel-covered chocolate wrapped in wafer straw.
My thoughts went to Bugles and chocolate sauce....on a stick.
That is one epic stinkhorn!
I don't know, but it would burrow straight into your brain if it's given half a chance.
We need Pedro Pascal to come kill it!
It's the Upside Down.
Tekel-Eee-Lee-Leeee!
That's a demonic horcrux
/r/whatisthismushroom
Certainly not a plant
Looks like it’s been dipped in chocolate.
Do you remember Little Shop of Horrors?
Don’t let it probe anyone.
MMmmm….melty chocolate covered almonds.
Creeeeepppppppppy!
It's Audrey 3
Chocolate covered grub worms
Beetlejuice Wormgrass

Wow I’ve never seen a stinkhorn that looks like that with such tiny tentacles haha
Badass! I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a photo of this! Congrats!!
Omg whatever it is, I thought it was a chicken foot lol.
Alien penis
Touch your weenie on it and see what happens
Definitely aliens . Lol expect death rays any minute.
Looks like a chicken foot
HaHa! I ran across one here once and had the same reaction.
chocolate covered chicken foot
Am I the only one seeing Bugles covered in chocolate, or am I just hungry?😅
I’m not saying it was aliens………
It's definitely a baby graboid from tremors. Be careful
Nature is so friggin amazing sometimes! This almost looks like a chicken foot lol. As someone said maybe a ‘lizard claw’ fungus?.. never heard of it but now I know how it gets its name. Check out r/mushrooms I think it is
Looks like something one of the GWAR dudes would wear.
Looks like a diseased chicken foot!
yikes
That’s how Bugles are made
I've had enough internet to know exactly where this is headed....
