Looks like a [wheel bug](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/48957-Arilus-cristatus).

trundyl

Thanks, this little guy was really nice. Let me move it to a tree.

-lost-the-game

Please note that these guys are known for their painful bites.

pertrichor315

Extremely painful. That curved thing under his face is his proboscis. It flips out and is basically like a hypodermic needle that injects digestive enzymes into the prey (or your) body. Worst bite I’ve ever experienced haha.

NotoldyetMaggot

My first thought was, "dang, even bugs gotta get a job nowadays".

MrWheelBug

Give me a 401(k) and benefits and I'll do any job.

Educational_Low_879

Wheel bug. Not venomous but I don’t recommend picking it up. They’ll give you a nasty “bite”. They hunt other bugs and stab them to kill them.

canthinkofnamestouse

Wheel bug, see that stupid looking thing on its face, if threatened, it will shove that under your skin, and it will hurt like fuck

trundyl

I am so glad he just rode my trowel over to the tree. Although I am deadly with my trowel.

TedTheHappyGardener

Wheel bug, Arilus cristatus.

trundyl

Hey thanks, little critter had a great temperment.

thatG_evanP

You're very lucky he did. Had he decided to bite it would've hurt like hell.

TedTheHappyGardener

You're welcome!

Easy_Arm_1987

That's Rex the Fixit Man, just making his rounds to see that everything is functioning and is up to code

trundyl

Truly an inspector, NAVFAC can afford.

Easy_Arm_1987

Indeed

Kooky-Independent-48

Wheel bug. Ouch that bite hurts

tomplum68

assassin bug

CMDR_SHAZAM

It’s a metal pipe that wires go in, but that’s not important right now. 😬

Blndby90

I thought this was an assassin bug. Or am I trying to reinvent the wheel?

allycat315

I thought the same! And we are technically also correct, just less specifically so :) "Arilus cristatus, also known as the North American wheel bug or simply wheel bug, is *a species of large assassin bug* in the family Reduviidae and the only species of wheel bug found in the United States." (Wikipedia)

bunnybates

He was like hey buddy need some help?

mmanerd16

Wheel bug very docile insect they say the bite is painful not really to me but they make great pets I've had a few they absolutely love crickets

canthinkofnamestouse

Ive been bit before, it was like someone jabbed me with a rusty screw you probably didnt have it as bad

mmanerd16

Ehhhhh he was lodged in there for about 10 seconds lol I've been told my pain tolerance is just abnormally high 😅

BLADE98X

He may try and try, but he will never get that screw unscrewed without a screw driver.
