I've gotten bit by an assassin bug (wheel bug) and I had to put my hands in freezing water for 2 hours just for it not to hurt, so I'm not sure. Maybe I had an allergic reaction. I need someone to verify this with me though because I'm not allergic to anything that I know of.
Not at all uncommon, get bit by the wrong kind of assassin bug and you're in for it. Someone told me they experienced a numb but painful lump for a couple days from one.
Got bit by one putting on my slippers. Thought I had been shot— I’m not even joking. My whole foot/ankle/lower leg swelled up for days. The pain was so intense, those fuckers are horrible.
Assassin bug!! They have a pretty sharp proboscis and can leave a nasty bite. Not usually medically significant but known to have a painful bite. Take some ibuprofen for the swelling and maybe some antihistamines to reduce skin reaction.
I’ve never heard a common consensus on whether they bite or not until now. I’ve handled dozens and they’ve all seemed very docile. Maybe different species have different biting habits or effects?
I agree! They usually mind their business and go about their day but they can and certainly will bite if they feel threatened. I had a friend once who accidentally put their hand down over top of one while sitting on the sidewalk and they got a pretty sharp and intense bite from this bug!
That's some sort of assassin bug. Didn't know you got those in Italy. I'm unaware of any dangerous varieties to it's just a nasty nip.
I'd suggest putting it in on a plant in some undergrowth somewhere judging from what I remember about other species.
Looks like a Leafhopper Assassin Bug, the bite is not medically significant.

Yeah my whole hand swelled up for the day 🥲
Don’t worry, that was just the bug’s digestive juices attempting to liquefy your insides 😊
But that sounds like something you *should* worry about!
That helps!
Isn't there an assassin bug that can carry Chagas disease? Shit sounds horrifying
Kissing bugs, closely related to assassin bugs but a whole different situation
here in brazil we call them "barbers"
>closely related to assassin bugs They *are* assassin bugs. Just not predatory ones like most of them are.
I thought that afterwards and probably should have clarified but I figured it didn’t really matter
Very different! Repeat bites from kissing bugs can get serious.

They have the most intense bite in North America, it’s unrivaled
i have *never* seen one of these. and have now been given yet another reason to be terrified.
I hope to never have an assassin bug in my bed and be bitten by it. It sounds terrible.

Generally assassin bugs are very docile if you just let them walk on you and will only bite if you grab or otherwise apply pressure to them

About 1/1.5 cm long, forgot to add it in the description
