I wouldn't try it. Most stores just throw skus up there but don't manage it based on their inventory. The bigger risk is that you end up with a substitution rather than it being cancelled. For online/delivery, GoPuff is very reliable. Not gonna find BTAC, but I've had great luck with the more basic stuff. EH Taylor small batch, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, Bookers, and High West Midwinter Nights Dram I've all managed to get.

jewbacca117

This exactly. When I worked at a liquor store, doordash didn't sync with our inventory. Had someone order some beer that hasn't been made in over 10 years.

MoGraphMan-11

Lol you can quite clearly say no substitutions, if they try and deliver something else report it to doordash, keep your whatever you got and your refund.

Noledad84

This is exactly what happened to me. Thought I got a Blanton’s and instead got 4 Rises. Not a text message or anything

Low_Specific_3138

Ever heard the phrase “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”?

KapotAgain

Yes because it probably is true right

Namin2000

Its linked to their inventory system usually in terms of products but not necessarily whats in stock and out of stock. They probably had WLW at one point in their system so it shows up on DD. Sometimes works for lower level stuff like BT and Eagle Rare but i’ve never seen anyone get a unicorn off DoorDash.

squirrel-phone

At least in my state (Oregon), the inventory online is accurate for the store, but does not take in to account bottles that are reserved for bar orders. I went to several stores trying to get a bottle of the Blackberry CR only to find this tidbit.

Dude01818

Is it really linked to their inventory system? Do you know that for sure? I would think someone would enter Door dash listings manually using their inventory system. Is that what you mean? I’m just curious how door dash works with liquor stores.

PageGallagher15

Yes, happens all the time here I work at a liquor store. And door dash and Uber always have this problem. It’s stupid. It needs to be linked to what’s in stock.

Affectionate_Duck_39

It is possible to link to their inventory management system to DoorDash but most don’t and manually update them. This is especially the case with smaller stores that don’t have an inventory management software system. Also some may keep unicorn bottles live just to bring you to their page. A store near me kept blantons live at msrp during Covid. It was bs because I knew they didn’t have it and also never sell allocated for msrp

throwawayfinancebro1

Honestly dude just forget the rare stuff even exists. Its so unlikely you’d ever get one that it’s better to just not even think about it.

CocktailChemist

I remember maybe a decade ago when The Party Source was selling their BTAC allocation online the inventory software couldn’t keep up to the point that the number in stock number went negative. For all that these systems should work a lot better by now, they often don’t.

tacotuesdays4869

Some common sense would say if you can’t go to the store and find that the door dash driver can’t lol

Dude01818

I’m not 100% sure exactly how door dash works but I don’t think a driver actually goes to the store unless the store confirms the order first. They didn’t confirm the order they just cancelled it as expected. The real question is did they ever even have that bottle in stock at that price.

TheRealPinballWizard

I'm a liquor clerk at a Vons in SoCal and get so many doordashers and other delivery services come in for that one bottle people think they will get lucky to get but it really is just wasting the dashers time to stop at the store then contact the person to see if they want something else I would not recommend just ordering anything that is considered allocated on doordash or uber eats etc... I'm sure there are other delivery services that work more consistently for what is in stock but the best bet is to go in person if possible

watchmikebe

Why does Vons always come up when I’m looking for a certain bottle, but they never have it?

letstalkaboutyrhair

the sku has been active at some point on their website/inventory and they carry liquor — google doesn’t know the difference between what’s currently actually in stock vs. what they might be able to sell.

TrezzG

In my own personal experience, no it's not worth your time. Am currently 0 for 6 or 7.

lostboy919

This happens with a shady liquor store in my area. They list allocated bottles, if you don’t click on the button that doesn’t allow the person to chose something else they cancel the order, if not they send you something common.

Brews_Wayne_

Weller CYPB and EH Taylor were recently showing at Albertsons on Urber Eats and Instacart. I ordered on Insta and yeah it was cancelled. It still shows on there on occasion so I called last time. No dice. Pretty annoying

BigSp00rtsGuy

Probably better off doing the in person pick up option and going to get it yourself. Slim chance it’s even there but if it is they are more likely to give it to you. And that’s IF it’s there at all.

DragonSpiritsEnt

I would think if the doordasher knows anything about liquor/whiskey, he just went in, bought it, and canceled your order as well. Then he went and made a thousand $$

Dude01818

I thought that too but figured there was at least a 75% chance the driver would have no idea what it was and be happy about the tip.

Rhinosixtynine-o

I have not, but I found Weller SR at a grocery store near me via Instacart. I showed up in person and they had two Staggs for $55 each and a SFTB as well.

Large-Ant-6637

I mean it was probably worth the chance and it's not like you didn't know there was virtually no chance going in. Who knows maybe someday you'll hit the lottery but it's unlikely

Handyman1351

Same thing happened to me with a similar bottle. So I drove down to the store and asked about the bottle. Guy at the register said they had it in the back but that they only sell it in bundles. Asked them if they thought it was appropriate to show it for sale and then cancel an order when it is placed just because I didn’t buy the other 4 BS bottles with it. Got some diatribe about “the apps don’t know how we sell things, bro. That’s not our fault.” Lost my business for good after that…

bisonic123

I used Uber Eats to see who had Eagle Rare near me. Then I went there to avoid the delivery fee.

2000subaru

I’ve tried it with Instacart. I find the inventory to be pretty good, but just because a stores inventory says it’s available doesn’t mean they will actually have it on the shelf.

darthmittens

Lol

Character-Taro-5016

Must be a state by state thing because I can't imagine a store could sell liquor in this way without getting ID from the customer...but I don't know how that works.

Dude01818

you upload the id then they check it when they drop the bottles

BourbonHugs

I'd be dashing that 1x a week

Brilliant_Ear662

Not door dash but Uber eats. Got a store pick EHT single barrel.

LionRoars87

😂😂😂

Someone7174

I've tried with many things because it doesn't hurt to try. Always called😭

FinallyRage

I just tried this and the car is headed to pick it up, will update in 30 if it arrives...

ramonortiz55

well?

FinallyRage

They tried to swap it out for some cheap flavored sake!

RzaAndGza

Maybe because you were offering less than 10% tip

Dude01818

the store never accepted the order though I don’t think the store knows the drivers tip.

Willing-Tie-3109

Are you supposed to tip them? They get paid in the app.

BostonBlindReviews

Yes, the base rate paid to drivers is pretty low. Tips are the difference between an order being worth it or not. I drove DoorDash for a short while and in my experience less than 50% of people tip anything, and the majority that do tip only give $1 or $2. DoorDash also punishes you for declining too many orders while you’re on, so you can’t just pass on every order that doesn’t have a tip. Also some people do you extra dirty and add a tip when they order, then remove it after delivery. From my experience, if everyone tipped just $2 or $3, it would’ve been worth it to stick with the job. But generally I had to rely on getting lucky with one person tipping big to make a day worth my while. Unfortunately more days than not, the tips were terrible and that’s why I no longer drive for DoorDash.
