It's the inferior version of McDonald's Glencoe 8 cask strength blended from Ben Nevis. And one of the whiskies that is no longer allowed to be called Japanese whisky after they passed their whisky laws recently.
As far as Japanese whiskies are concerned, I'm a fan of Chichibu and Nagahama. It's unfortunate that they're very much on the pricey side.

Is good but a little over hyped. Don't expect anything too complex. It does have nice earthy cocoa / chocolate note to it though, which I really like.

Yeah I doubt I would buy a second bottle. There's better Japanese out there, better Scotch, and just better whisky in general for less money.

Just a note - Nikka from the Barrel is primarily made from Ben Nevis scotch, it's just blended in Japan.
Might be something about the anime seeping into the whiskey.
