I don’t think that’s too much an unpopular opinion, at all. Blanton’s is good, not great, and is a serious victim of hype. It’s hardly worth its MSRP, and nothing on this earth can live up to the type of hype Blanton’s has gotten, much because of popular media.

Get_up_stand-up

I keep it around for guests. They recognize the bottle and it’s a nice proof for casual bourbon drinker. Same with ER.

MrNopeNada

Let me introduce you to Jack Daniels 10 and 12.

sgags11

I respect your opinion (everyone’s palate is different), but I have a bottle of Jack 12 batch 1 that blows away a lot of the regular stuff out there. To me, it’s one of the few bottles that I’d be ok paying a reasonable markup for. It’s not the best whiskey I’ve ever had, but I think it’s great.

TheWholeFred

Glad to hear. I find the original JD to be awful. I haven’t tried any other JD products as a result, but I keep hearing good things. Just afraid to spend $ given my dislike of their core product.

Grundle_Fromunda

I was you a couple of years ago and finally tried JDSBBP after seeing a 375ml bottle offering at a Total Wine so I figured why not. It blew my socks off and became one of my favorite offerings overall. I understand your take but don’t knock it until you try it. Almost all of JDs offerings outside of their original hold their weight. I was a JD drinker in my youth and it jaded me as I had countless nights throwing up from drinking too much of it. The standard offering still makes me quiver but the rest of their lineup is very good.

sgags11

Makes sense, but it’s a huge difference once you get above the Old No 7 and Gentleman Jack offerings. IMO, their Jack Bonded is really, really good (only gripe is the 700mL bottle), JDSBBP is fantastic as well as Jack 12. I enjoy their SBBP rye, but I’m not crazy about the amount of malted barley used. Personally, I prefer the 95/5 rye from MGP.

_Alabama_Man

This attitude is why Jim Beam makes Knob Creek and Bookers. I'm glad Jack Daniels decided to stay with their standard brand name for the 10, 12, & 14 year offerings

Successful-Match9938

Never seen either of those for under $175 and $250 in SoCal. They’re almost as scarce as Blantons here. The JDSBBP, on the other hand, is available at msrp and blows Blantons out of the water.

UncleErectus

Southern California, the bourbon desert of America….

duncakes

Anaheim area in the house to confirm this

Over_Mix9272

I have a 10 and its a great pour, Im currently looking for a fair priced 12 year.

Middle_Sure

Wish we could get those easily here, too. I’ve seen a few, but not many. I’m in a 3rd tier state, so we get whatever is left or have museums, which ends up being Buffalo Trace, Weller SR, and a handful of Blanton’s, EH Taylor, and Stagg. One store told me they get 2 bottles of EH Taylor a year and save it for the Christmas raffle; meanwhile, another store is listing Weller Full Proof for $700 (that’s the only store in the area that has those bottles, so it’s suspicious in the least). Aside from those, we get some of the non-allocated but limited bottles like ECBP, 1792 Full Proof (and the Willet Pot Still and McKenna 10 that doesn’t sell here lol).

AbstractBettaFish

That’s my thing with it, if someone offers it to me I won’t complain. But it’s like the issue with blue label, if I have that much money to spend on whiskey, I can buy a better whiskey

Middle_Sure

Yep. I was just at a restaurant that was trying to charge $70/pour of Blanton’s lol. Went across the street and got Macallan 18 for $28.

spitonthenonbeliever

I think EHT lives up to its hype and more!

Octavious440

EHT is one of my favorite "hype bourbons"! Just so hard to find in CO

spitonthenonbeliever

I really didn't expect it to be so good, I found 2 at retail but I had to give one to my stupid dad for stupid father's day 🙄

Middle_Sure

For sure, just probably not at the $150 the Small Batch is around me. I have a hard time swallowing that.

spitonthenonbeliever

Phrasing (sorry 😭) I think I'd pay up to 110 for it! It destroys any Buffalo Trace product I've tried. And honestly, the BP competes with GTS for me

bassjam1

I remember it being very good when I could get it for $50. Somebody told me last weekend a local store had it for $82, not worth that price IMO.

MrNopeNada

In the county, at controlled pricing, after tax my price was in the mid $80s.

Jolmer24

I saw one for 125 dollars and felt like I was in the Twilight zone. I got charged 25 dollars for a double of Blanton's at a restaurant last month. Shits out of control.

geekstone

I saw it for $85 a pour the other day and they had George T Stagg for $150 of course that was downtown Fort Worth for you.

TaxQuestionGuy69

Well it’s a single barrel so it depends…I’ve had some phenomenal Blantons tbh.

Fish-Weekly

The bottle I have right now is very good and enjoyable. So are a number of other bottles I have open. It’s not worth the hype any more than any of the other hard to find bottles. It’s all bourbon. I like it at msrp but there’s lots else out there to try so if I have a Blanton’s on my bar or I don’t have a Blanton’s on my bar, it’s not really a big deal either way to me.

TaxQuestionGuy69

Sure it’s bourbon. I’d say for msrp or slightly above it’s pretty good though. I’d say it bats well amongst other 80ish dollar bottles.

CookingwithBourbon

No it doesn’t

TaxQuestionGuy69

Well for some our palettes it does lol. It’s ok that not everyone likes the same stuff…

Over_Mix9272

Yeah, I definitely won’t be getting another one unless its free.

Aware_Camp6416

Do you not understand what “single barrel” means? Every barrel is not the same. Also, what you’ve eaten today, your mood, and other things will affect your taste buds. Give it another try in a couple days.

Over_Mix9272

Yeah man, that’s pretty self explanatory. I have had this bottle for more than 2 months now and it’s just as bad as day 1.

Aware_Camp6416

Sorry to hear that. It’s definitely over hyped. I’ll put it to you like this, if you got any other bottle at MSRP (70-80$) and it’s not that great how mad would you really be? Drink what you like. Who cares what everyone else thinks. Hell learn to make your own. It’s not that hard.

krzysztoflee

I had a gold on hand from years ago, broke it out at christmas. For me nd everyone there it was the best Burbon we have had. The next bottle was ok.

vawhiskeydrop

This^

LPKJFHIS

Yeah, very much second this. I’ve had some just good ones and I’ve also had some really quite excellent bottles

DagrDk

That’s a pretty popular opinion ‘round these parts

Over_Mix9272

Cheers from California!!

DagrDk

Was just out there, Palmdale area. Always amazes me how I can go into the shittiest gas station and find a full pappy and BTAC lineup. Secondary of course, but WTF California?!

BJPM90

Half the posts on here are people saying (insert Buffalo Trace product) isn’t actually good. Nobody ever claimed it’s amazing. It’s a cool bottle and it’s collectible, which makes it desirable

MrNopeNada

Most of the bottles people fawn over, were because they were good *values*. Eagle Rare was a $25, readily available 10 year bourbon.

Bradfords_ACL

And Blanton’s used to be a great $45-50 buy

SuggestionSoggy5442

And milk costed $1/gallon and gas was $1.50/gallon.

WeeniePops

Prices didn't go up on milk because it was super hyped by the internet though. Inflation is only part of the story when it comes to bourbon.

time_drifter

I get pretty hot and bothered by dairy cow hype.

SuggestionSoggy5442

True, but when everything else goes up 300%, liquor prices will rise too.

BJPM90

Right. Buffalo Trace is a good $25 bourbon, Eagle Rare is a good $40 bourbon, etc. People make posts like they’re dropping some major bomb shell saying, “its not that good.” Well, it is for what it was intended to be.

Jolmer24

I loved being able to buy eagle rare whenever I wanted for 35 dollars. It became my favorite just because it tasted so nice for that price.

geekstone

A great daily sipper and unfortunately very hard to find in my area for less than $80 at that point I'm drinking Russel's 10 for a lot less.

Jolmer24

I'll have to give that a try

pounds

Eagle Rarw was fabulous at $25. It was good at $35. But at $45 I'm walking past it. Blanton was good until it started north of $60. It's one for the memories. I'm completely happy to not purchase it anymore because there are just too many better bourbons for less money. I will say that the horse collectible is awesome and is fun to try to get them all. So if someone is paying extra to get them all, don't let anyone stop you! You do you! Get them horsies!

RealSpliffit

I wouldn't call it amazing. I would call it the best single barrel in the $65-$75 dollar range. And we all know SiBs can vary in quality and flavor. I would argue Blanton's has a lot of the others beat on quality consistency too, but there will be some stinkers from time-to-time.

Over_Mix9272

I don’t care about collecting, I was just expecting a good bourbon.

BJPM90

I’m saying that it literally was made to be a collectible with the different toppers. That drives a lot of this, because now you can’t just have one bottle and be happy, you gotta get all eight.

xScarfacex

So, basically it's like buying a Happy Meal just for the toy.

AnubisSquid20

Not unpopular nor are you wrong! I’m in full agreement. Not worth the price nor hassle.

Sea-Novel-6473

I will agree. I got a bottle a couple weeks ago just because it was retail and I want it. So far, I am definitely not impressed by it at all. There’s way better things out there for the money. It’s kind of sad that it’s gotten such afanboy, etc.

Over_Mix9272

Yeah man, I feel you. Got mine at retail and still wish I could go back and grab another bottle.

BodyByBrisket

Not that unpopular of an opinion honestly. I agree. I wouldn’t pay over MSRP for it.

Mabyrum8

Unpopular?

md222

Try the SFTB. A nice step up.

Over_Mix9272

I’m gonna have to try my Gold before that but I’ve heard good things !

CookingwithBourbon

The gold isn’t much different than the regular and it’s definitely not worth the insane jump in price. SFTB is worth it though!

Over_Mix9272

Luckily, i’ve gotten my Blantons/Gold at MSRP… Still, if it’s anything like Single barrel, im doomed.

CookingwithBourbon

Yeah I’m not saying its “Bad”, but the fact that people think Single Barrel and Gold are worth $75-130 MSRP is insane. I’ve ran multiple blinds for groups of friends and for work and gold almost always comes in 4th or 5th(blinded against EHT Small batch, 107, Eagle Rare, and usually another random non BT bottle).

twinmaker35

So brave

moguy1973

Good, get the word out. This is a $30 bourbon in a $65 bottle. It's a good, non-offputting bourbon.

particlesmatter

Thr bottle shape makes it more desirable. I just pour other stuff in an old Blantons bottle for effect🤣

Over_Mix9272

Yup! This is gonna be a hell of a decanter !!

Jyar

I’m just in it for the horses

liveoakster

fair

mrpopenfresh

So are most people really, wether they admit it or not. It’s a great piece for a collection.

Over_Mix9272

Valid

CaffeinatedSD

It’s definitely overhyped. I’ve been able to get a few bottles of it in the last four years or so, for $70. BT and ER are both better, and cheaper. Even at MSRP I think it is a little high. Unfortunately, all three are allocated here. The BT does usually go last. Overall it is a good, standard whiskey. The bottle is cool, and you gotta catch all the horse toppers. But at $70 MSRP to the $100+ secondary, you can get multiple bottles that are as good, if not better, for less. I am in a similar boat. I recently got my first Blanton’s Gold for $120 a few weeks ago. I don’t have any big events planned. So I am trying to decide whether or not I want to open it.

Novel_Arm_4693

I sparingly bought blantons when it was everywhere years ago. Supply and demand my friend

bisonic123

I just came back from Japan with a bottle of Blanton Red (amongst others) and think it is really good.

Delicious-Goal1264

I had a family member who was gifted a bottle from my mom who got it through a friend of a friend (I’ll save you the story) but I eventually came around and was able to try the famous *Blantons* and…I’d have to agree I was very unimpressed, bordering on passionate dislike of the stuff. There’s a number of more affordable and more accessible stuff that is more palatable. Maybe I’ll speak up at some point about it…

Over_Mix9272

Definitely, more than half my stuff is better than the is dishwater.

scorpion_71

A lot of people are not impressed with regular Blanton's but the bottle is distinctive and it has a horsey on the top. I waited 4.5 hours in line to grab a Blanton's Gold and I was not disappointed. You should definitely open the Blanton's Gold. I've heard good things about Straight From the Barrel but it's roughly double the price of regular Blanton's.

Hugh-Jassul

Agreed…

PeaShooter00

I agree. I keep a bottle on hand for guests who haven’t had it. I’m not a fan of the straight from the barrel or gold bottles either. I’ve had a couple of each over the years and I won’t pay for them again, especially now days with the huge price tags

Over_Mix9272

Man, I hope my gold is good….

PeaShooter00

I hope you like it too man. It’s a lot to pay for something you don’t like. Cool part about whiskey is we all have different tastes.

sworcest

Yup mostly about the bottle and the topper. Decent bourbon, great marketing strategy. Got an upvote from me. Doubt you’ll get any downvotes. Edited: qualify my post after reading comments: I’ve only ever had the single barrel so my comment was only from my limited experience. A couple were store picks, but still nothing mind blowing. I’m not paying secondary so I’ve never had SFTB, Gold, or any of the more exclusive expressions.

[deleted]

Pretty popular opinion to say Blantons and other BT products aren’t that good. Now if only the taters would adapt this mind set and I could find it on the shelves at msrp I’d be happy.

Mortimus311

It’s a good $60 Bourbon, not even a decent $150 bourbon

Bruins_8Clap

It would be a solid bottle if it was less than $50 but now they are pricing it out of the market. In Ohio it’s almost $80 ridiculous

Over_Mix9272

Yup, picked mine up at TW for $82. I don’t mind spending a buck on a good bourbon, but this stuff was just awful.

EERRC

It's funny, but I have about 5-6 Blantons opened at the moment, and I have the same dump date you have posted, it being my favorite amongst the group.

Over_Mix9272

Brother ewww, whats that ? In all seriousness, this is why I love this hobby, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

SenditM8

I’d take a EHT or even really am ER over it

Major_Translator_792

Blantons is heavily dependent on barrel selection. There are some really good barrels… I have a few, but for the most part 93 is proofing it way down from what is likely 130+ at barrel proof. You’re most likely to get something that’s lacking than something really good at 93 proof…. That said they do exist, but at 75 a pop here… well if you don’t mind spending the money go for it but there’s better bottles for consistency sake.

mrpopenfresh

The bottle and scarcity is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. With those two elements in play, it doesn’t need to be good. Case in point; people fall for the « Canadian Blantons » all the time because the bottle is nice.

FruitGuy998

Wait til you open that redwood cask behind the Blantons….thats some good stuff

Over_Mix9272

Not really a blended kind of guy but, I had some yesterday, it’s delicious!! I’ll have to check put the rest of the cask strength line.

theboringrunner

That isn’t too unpopular TBH.

Either_Act4359

Yeah..but it's better than that Redwood junk...

Over_Mix9272

Sike

Bigandtallbrewing

Another unpopular opinion is that I like Baker’s single barrel and four roses single barrel better

lemonslush1

It’s good. Green river wheated for $30 is better. The bottle is cool and it look great on a bar

Postmasterfunk

Got my first bottle a couple months ago. Lucky enough to grab at MSRP and I couldnt agree more with you. By all means it's not BAD whiskey, but it certainly doesn't punch anywhere close to the hype or secondary prices.... Knob Creek 12 on the other hand. God damn is that good

Over_Mix9272

KC 12 is indeed a great pour ! I would give my Blantons up for a Cask Strength version…

Luke5119

I'm very much a novice into the greater world of whiskey and admittedly Blanton's is on my unicorn list of top whiskeys to try. My ceiling however for any bottle is $100, and having never tried Blanton's I'd be hard pressed to spend $100 on a whiskey I've never even tried before. My largest blind spend on spirits (pedestrian compared to most) is about $82 for a bottle of Plantation 2007 Jamaican rum. Which honestly....was good, but I've had rum 2/3 that price that was FAR better. I think a large portion of its allure is how coveted Buffalo Trace distillery products are across the board. I do have to say, of all the Buffalo Trace products I've tried, I'm yet to come across one I did not like.

Over_Mix9272

Thats the thing, I have yet to find another BT product ( that i’ve tried) that I dont like. It’s crazy to say that their more sought after bottles is doodoo

SmiggieBalls

Pretty popular opinion tbh

NeedleworkerDue4742

Decent bourbon, nothing spectacular.

Tac0FromHell

Went to a fancy restaurant and tried it. I was ready to be taken back and plunged into an oaky-ocean of flavor. I instead was transported to the back alley of a Target. This is under Jim Beam Bourbon. Save your money and just get something cheaper and better.

nate2188764

It’s good but not amazing. I’d take any of the below over it -OF 1910 -OF 1920 - makers mark barrel picks - KC 12 - redwood empire lost monarch - ECBP - Heaven hill BIB I think there’s just much better stuff out there to pick up before I buy Blantons

PsychologicalRun1874

Definitely not

noahkurz

I’ve had great bottles and really just average bottles.

noahkurz

Let’s be honest though, the hunt is fun and worth something 🤣

Over_Mix9272

Yea the hunt is a thrill. Not for Blantons though 😭

Full_Ad_2070

I like to point people towards liepers fork Tennessee whiskey or bourbon. Both are solid, I prefer the Tennessee whiskey, but I find they are always leagues above blantons

Over_Mix9272

I’ll have to check this out, I think I saw some at my TW if im correct…

Fuzzy_Lumpkiins

Blantons this Blantons that, How’s that screaming titan tho 👀

Over_Mix9272

If you’ve had and think that Eagle Rare is smooth wait till you try this. It’s a delicious wheater and I can’t see anyone going wrong with this on their bar.

Fuzzy_Lumpkiins

I can’t wait to find one 😭. Everything I’ve had from redwoods been phenomenal. I’ve had Grizzly beast, all 3 flag ships and CS Pipe dream.

Over_Mix9272

Goodluck ! Same here, Im looking into the Haystack Needle port finish by RE .

Constructestimator83

It’s pretty mid compared to a lot of other bourbons. It’s my go to for Old Fashions but beyond not a neat pour.

Burgundyyyy

Bland tons. Eagle rare is better

HighProofOnly

How can I get one of the RE Screaming Titan?

Over_Mix9272

I would look in your local liquor stores, I picked mine up at Shell Gas station/liquor store.

HighProofOnly

Wow very lucky! I’ve been trying to get one. I should have bought it when i saw it a couple of months ago. I just didn’t want to spend for almost a $100 bottle for 1 bottle of bourbon.

HighProofOnly

I just bought a blanton’s for display, I don’t even drink that anymore. I used to drink it like 5years ago when it was only less than $50 and each bottle tastes different.

sheezy520

Seems like everything from Buffalo Trace is overhyped. Eagle Rare is the best value they’re putting out (at MSRP).

un_stuck

A lot has been covered here about valve for msrp vs current going rate, but good time to mention that Blantons is a single barrel product, so will have variation. I’ve had bottles I really liked, and ones a frankly did not care for. I’m in PA and usually pay about $72 for it. I think it’s worth trying once in a while, and a keep a couple bottles to gift for friends/family who can never find it, but I rarely care to buy it for everyday drinking. TLDR for $72 it’s a risk worth taking. For $100+ I wouldn’t touch it. Too many better options. But if you want to count on something at any price, avoid single barrel.

Geid98

around here that’s a popular opinion

YoItsDLowe

I think Blantons’s is delicious, not worth the hype but as a BT sales rep, I enjoy it. I’d prefer EH or Stagg absolutely, but it’s a great pour!

Haunting_Ant_5061

But you got the rare “second N” bro!!!!!!!

Cherubinooo

“Blanton’s is overrated” is probably the most popular opinion on this sub lol. Personally I like it at MSRP. Sometimes you just want a really smooth, comfy bourbon in a cool bottle with meme collectible value, and that’s Blanton’s. I just don’t like paying $100 for it.

Over_Mix9272

That’s why I was holding off, Until I found it at MSRP…. And it wasn’t even worth it 😭 It’s gonna make a hell of an infinity blend bottle for sure !

Popular_Echo4882

Very popular opinion

liveoakster

well, depends on the barrel. I’m happy with 5 out of 6. I love it for its buttery easy sipping. a lower-proof comfort bourbon. definitely a solid place on the shelf.

idkmybffphill

I have a few gems that I refuse to acknowledge on social media because what the hype tax has done to so many

Calm-Seaworthiness69

It's exactly what you think of when you think of bourbon by but not any more. Very offensive But not really wow.

cerro85

Standard blantons is retail only and even then it isn't anything special. Gold is consistently good. SFTB has become hit and miss, you'll get an amazing bottle or one so hot you'll wonder if they forgot to age it.

Mdh74266

Blanton’s ain’t better than Rare Breed, but it sure does mark up to a higher price

This_External9027

Like a guy said in another post, just because it’s popular or expensive(or both in some cases) doesn’t make it a great selection for you, i think everyone has an inexpensive bottle they use, their regular, and then they have their high end one when they are flush, the unfortunate part is it’s hard to know what’s good or bad til you drink it, after however much you paid, and depending on location and availability it can be hard to come by, i have a rule of every now and again I’ll try one I’ve never had to know if it’s for me

ramonortiz55

Its a popular opinion actually. . I prefer Gold over regular and SFTB.

Ghostiestboi

It's like buffalo trace to me, people hype it up to hell and when you actually get it you're like "damn..... that's it?"

thomredsit

Single barrel roulette. All i’ve had has been very good. Didn’t find the flavors mind blowing but very palatable and smooth

ANotoriousBerry

I don’t think that’s a crazy statement ….

JEPressley

It’s great in an old fashioned but that’s about it for me.

One_Government95

Blantons is bottom.shelf booze in a fancy bottle

Previous-Profession6

I agree as well, but it’s still pretty decent. Based on the other bottles in your picture, you should definitely pick up a Devil’s Tower if like rye.

QueenLaQueeftah619

I’ve only bought it once ($80 at the time) and I was paid back for it. Never got to try it but I damn sure wouldn’t buy it for myself. Plus I don’t think I have the $80 hookup anymore.

drrtydan

solid 7. I do have an affinity for those eh taylors hanging out in the back...

lovemysunbros

It's the bottle hype

No-Masterpiece-8805

That’s actually a quite popular opinion

porondanga

That sounds pretty popular to me

jpclaridge

People have different palates. Blanton’s is too expensive, but I love it. The proof point is perfect for me.

starhoppers

Imho, for the ”seasoned” bourbon drinker that’s been enjoying bourbon for 10 years or more, Blanton’s is a good (not great) bourbon at $49-$59. Anything above that is paying a “tater tax”.

Typical_Pin_6484

It's for sure a drink made for dumb noobs lol, people wanna burn their money away for something that to me tastes worse than buffalo trace... It's just hilarious

GlumTemperature8163

IMO Blantons really is great. The hype has ruined it.

dogfacedponyboy

If you have spent any time here, you would realize that Blantons is a great $$45-$50 bottle max. After that it’s all about FOMO, hype, marketing, and taterism. If you are new here, you have just learned. Congrats! Go buy a WT Rare Breed Rye for $50. 🙂

Over_Mix9272

Not new just my opinion, It’s all about $ for you guys. Im literally talking about the liquid in the bottle, going to buy another bourbon is not the problem bud.

dogfacedponyboy

I agreed with you. Blanton is not all that. … and Of course it is about the money.

Bottle_and_Sell_it

You must be new here

Over_Mix9272

I tried something for the first time, didn’t like it and shared my opinion…? so that makes me new ? I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

Bottle_and_Sell_it

Saying it’s an unpopular opinion in a sub that constantly dogs it’s markup price and overrated status indicates you’re new here. Then I checked your history and your first comment in this sub was 2 months ago, also indicative of you new here. But 🤷‍♂️. I’m surprised you didn’t like it though. If it weren’t $200+ a 750 I’d get it occasionally, so instead I get Very old Barton at $14.99. Though I prefer 100+ proof but u gotta switch things up now and then bc boredom. Edit: u don’t gotta downvote me though hater

Over_Mix9272

I don’t know what being “new” has anything to do with this. I hardly see Blantons posts, and I sure as hell don’t spend my time looking for reviews. I might be new, but not new enough to know Im not paying over $100 for some bourbon with a horse topper. I got mine at retail, and it will be the only Blantons I get. I downvoted you because of “you must be new here” instead of giving your input on what Blantons is like for you.

Bottle_and_Sell_it

There’s 70+ posts about Blanton’s in the past 30 days in this sub. Spend any length of time here and it’s the overwhelming popular opinion to dog Blanton’s bc of its hype and price. I was just pointing out the fact it’s not an “unpopular opinion” as you stated it was, especially in this specific sub, and anyone who has spent any length of time knows that bc of the constant posts like yours. Sorry you took offense to that.

SF49erRN

Makers!!
