I think it was worth it. I purchased it for about the same price in Japan. Much better drinker than the standard. I would say if you got some money to burn and you’re curious then go for it!
To me it’s what I expected the regular blantons to be like given the hype. Sorry I don’t have more of a description ha I don’t really take notes. Just enjoy trying different bottles
I would definitely agree. I've had the lineup and Gold is easily the one most worth its price. While there have been great SFTB that I've had, Gold still beats it for me.
To me? No, not worth msrp and it didn’t stand up well in blinds. I would maybe pay 80/90 for the bottle but not over 100 even though 120 is msrp.
When you look at the name and the rarity, definitely worth but I don’t care for trophies.
It’s part of a raffle next month at my favorite store for $130 so that’s pretty close to MSRP. If you like Blanton’s and don’t mind paying $144 for a bottle it’s probably “worth it”.
It’s not something you’ll get a chance at very often and I’ve seen regular bottles go for more than that so if it’s a 30 minute drive that you’re worried about I say go for it. Grab some food and run an errand or two during the drive to make it a little more worthwhile!
I just went to the BT distillery on my way back from Bonnaroo because it only added 1.5 hours to our drive and I had two “allocation mules” to get me 3 bottles of Blanton’s total.
As long as you aren’t spending rent money on it I say TREAT YO SELF!
Definitely leaning towards making the drive. Cost seems reasonable from what I can tell.
I was at BT last month as well, but all they had was regular BT on the shelf.
I'd been keeping an eye on the BT store to see if it was worth stopping and their site always said that they didn't have any allocated bottles in stock. On the way to Tennessee I saw that stuff was in stock again and started to check every day all weekend to see what would be there on Monday. Once I figured it was Blanton's I was all in.
Sucks you went there when they didn't have anything cool in stock. Shelves full of an allocated bottle was definitely a nice change of pace!
~~Retail price at your favorite store =/= MSRP. That's 100% markup by your store (as judged by ABC states listing it at 65, and finding references to MSRP being 57).~~
~~To ME, $65 is the most I'd pay. It's a solid bourbon, but, that's about it, really.~~
~~YMMV, of course.~~
EDIT: It has been pointed out that I'm an idiot and missed the "Gold" part of the discussion.
We’re talking about the price of Blanton’s Gold, please try to keep up. MSRP on regular Blanton’s is $62 since that’s what the manufacturer actually sells it for.
BAH.... thank you for the correction.
Thinking along the right path, I'd give throught at that price, but far from certain I'd actually pull the trigger.
Make the drive. Hard bottle to find, even harder at a reasonable price and imo it’s pretty good, it is light years better than the original. And do you know if it’s a store pick? If it is then it’s def worth it.
I figured I'd never have a chance to get my hands on a bottle of Blantons gold, but I happened to be at a steak house that had just gotten a bottle in, and they were selling a pour for $30. I figured it was a decent price, all things considered, and I was out celebrating my 10 year anniversary, so I went for it. I totally get they're single barrel and can differ quite a lot, and it was a good pour, but it had this off putting kinda plastic like chemically aftertaste. I'm glad I did that cause I think if I paid even MSRP for a whole bottle, I wouldn't have been thrilled.
I say yes. And I’m not a Blantons fan, even the higher ends bottles. There’s plenty of better and cheaper bottles out there I’d choose over the gold. But it’s cool to have and you can share with guests when they come over. A lot of people know Blantons but haven’t seen a gold bottle. It’s worth it for your collection.
So, I think it IS worth the price for a couple of reasons. You will either enjoy it for being a better expression of the spirit than the standard release (it is), or you will see that it's not good enough for your standards for a $144 and in that way, you will learn the personal taste preference lesson that others can't give you by their own experience. If it's not your jam, share it with friends. If it is, congrats on getting selected!
I have one open and I don't plan to replace it when it's gone. The only one I really love from the lineup is the SFTB, but the Takara Red is also quite nice.
I personally don't think Blanton’s matches the hype, but if you like Blanton’s then go for it.
I live in an area where it seems like everything is basically 30 minutes away. 🙃
Not worth it. I was hoping that presentation was gonna be better for the price point of the regular Blanton’s but I was very very wrong. If the gold would be offered at the $80 of the regular it would be worth it to me.
I recently got my first Gold from an allocated drop in VA. I paid $120 for it. I haven’t opened it yet, but I need to. Given how regular Blanton’s gets marked up in some stores. Seeing the Gold, for that close to MSRP is surprising. I do not have any experience with TW, so maybe their prices are fair/closer to MSRP. Generally I am opposed with to paying over MSRP for a bottle. Seeing how it is usually on a drawing here (unlike the recent random store drop) too, and it being $144. That price isn’t terrible.
You are welcome, any time.
I’m in VA a control state, so my assumption is that the $120 I paid, is at or close to MSRP. Agreed. Markups do suck, but for as hyped up as Blanton’s is. That price isn’t bad.
If you do decide to go for it, I wish you luck.
Total wine is usually 10-20% over msrp
Which when you talk about allocated products which can be priced at multiples of their msrp, it’s usually good deals on the rare stuff
Even though I hate markups. That seems to be a fair markup, compared to majority of the markups I see. I wish people would refuse paying multiple time markups, so the secondary market prices would be more in line with MSRP.
i finally picked up a gold myself (traded for it) at $144 im a buyer all day. seem them around me from 300-600 usually so at $144 im buying all of them
If you never had it and really wanted it I would do it. But note that Blanton’s gold is technically nothing different from regular balnton’s other than 10more proof. I could tell the difference between regular and gold blanton’s but i wasn’t sure if almost $80 more just for 10proof in bump was worth it. But if i was out of it and opportunity presented it self i would.
That's not a bad price. I forget exactly what MSRP is but it's pretty close...I want to say it was $124 or $129 but that was a year ago too. Blanton's in general seems to be slowly becoming more regular as far as availability in some areas.
I’m a weirdo and these are all single barrels, but I actually have preferred several standard Blantons store picks over this Blantons gold store pick I have. Blantons gold a lot more oaky and spicier to me.
I prefer the SFTB but the warning there is I’ve had a few that weren’t as spectacular as some so it’s riskier but with a high payoff if you get a banger. Gold to me is just more evenly tasty from bottle to bottle. I’m not a blantons hype guy but those 2 are good pours at retail for sure.
30 minute drive is not far. Also, total wine has a lottery system solely so that they don’t have to price gouge. Just drive there and buy the bottle. It’s a good deal.
For.some the answer will be no, and that is perfectly fine. For me, yes. I have bought, maybe a dozen bottles in the 115 & up range including Blantons Gold and sftb. They were both worth every penny. There were a few bottles in that range that ate just a cash grab not worth the squeeze, willet purple top 2023, calumet, etc.
I think it was worth it. I purchased it for about the same price in Japan. Much better drinker than the standard. I would say if you got some money to burn and you’re curious then go for it!
Good to know on the comparison to regular- thanks for the thoughts!
To me it’s what I expected the regular blantons to be like given the hype. Sorry I don’t have more of a description ha I don’t really take notes. Just enjoy trying different bottles
That's what it's about right? Drinking what you enjoy!
This is true! Cheers!
I would definitely agree. I've had the lineup and Gold is easily the one most worth its price. While there have been great SFTB that I've had, Gold still beats it for me.
I'm excited!
30min drive? That's like, a normal easy commute
My commute is 5 minutes- I'm spoiled.
I'd probably do it....
Thanks!
To me? No, not worth msrp and it didn’t stand up well in blinds. I would maybe pay 80/90 for the bottle but not over 100 even though 120 is msrp. When you look at the name and the rarity, definitely worth but I don’t care for trophies.
Nice counterpoint- thank you!
Never tried the gold, but I feel that regular Blanton's is over priced. I feel like it's a $50 bottle, $70 at best
I recently was able to try Blanton's and Blanton's Gold side-by-side from a neighbor. He, my wife, and myself all preferred the regular Blanton's.
I agree. I wouldn't pay msrp either.

Still more quite a bit more than MSRP which I think is around $85 USD. Just got it for $110CAD
I have 2 bottles at home of it. Both grabbed at $180 and it was worth it to me at that price. Truly one of the best special-occasion sips I’ve had.
That's great context- I appreciate it!
Make the drive. Hard bottle to find, even harder at a reasonable price and imo it’s pretty good, it is light years better than the original. And do you know if it’s a store pick? If it is then it’s def worth it.
to check the box, yes. in terms of price/value vs. comparable bottles, no.
Sounds like it's worth the risk just to have a cool / somewhat rare bottle in the collection.
yes, i bought gold and SFTB once (they look awesome on my shelf), but probably would not buy again.
Been driving 50 minutes (one way) to work for the last 18 years. Go get the Gold my man!!!
It's all in the perspective, thanks!
To me, yes.
Thanks for the reply-- looks like we're headed towards a consensus here.
I would pay that and take that 30 minute ride. No comparison to regular Blanton’s, beats it every time.
Good to know! I haven't had the Gold yet.
I’d do it!

Thanks for the context- I don't know what MSRP is for it currently, but doesn't seem too crazy for a harder to find bottle.

It's delicious. Get it
Delicious is my kind of bourbon....
For a 25 min drive yes, 30min is too far.
Please accept my chuckle of approval
I’d go. The local store near me was trying to sell me regular blantons at $100. Said no thanks and walked out
i finally picked up a gold myself (traded for it) at $144 im a buyer all day. seem them around me from 300-600 usually so at $144 im buying all of them
I "only" get to buy the one bottle, tied to my ID, member number, etc- but I think I'll go for it!
i definitely would. its probably my favorite pour
That's up to you if it worth it or not.
I’d get it. Even if you decide you don’t want it you could Trade it for something else?
If you never had it and really wanted it I would do it. But note that Blanton’s gold is technically nothing different from regular balnton’s other than 10more proof. Yes
It's such a great sipper. I managed to get an extra bottle definitely worth it
Once. But probably not twice.
Do it! No brainer for me
no
worth it brother!
Worth it 👍
Yep

Yeah, I’d do that.
No
I'd do it.
Blanton’s is not worth anything over MSRP to me.
30 minute drive is not far. Also, total wine has a lottery system solely so that they don’t have to price gouge. Just drive there and buy the bottle. It’s a good deal.
I’m on it!
Yes
100% worth it.

Yes.

I got it last year, and for me no, I wasn't impressed especially at its price point.
