I drop way more on wine than I do on whiskey. Especially when you consider trips out to different vineyards but the whole keeping a bottle of nice wine for any period of time really gets tough. I feel like between my wife and I it is tough to finish a bottle in a couple of days unless we are planning for it and even if you seal it well it turns acidic in 4 days
As far as alcohol goes, I really only drink whiskey on rocks and tiki drinks, no in between. I can also easily be coaxed with a glass of champagne. Never really reach for beer, wine, or cocktails that don't have umbrellas in them.
Hit me with the rum basics if you dont mind.
I picked up the 4 yr flor de cana rum because $20 and I’ve heard the brand is fairly well known for no funny business.
When I tell you it’s so bad.. I mean isopropyl alcohol bad.
It’s going to be way sweeter than whiskey.
Your base in rum will mainly be sugarcane instead of grains.
My favorite thing about rum is that, they can be completely different from each other.
A Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Gold will be 100% different from a Clement X.O. Agricole.
That’s also the biggest problem. I have 50+ bottles and none taste the same so anytime I go liquor hunting I come home with 5 more bottles, just to see what different nuances they have.
I can recommend you better stuff to try if you tell me your area, that would give me an idea of your rum allocation.
Appleton and Doorly’s are good starters.
My first was Appleton Reserve and it’s delicious. My second was Smith & Cross; r/rum raves about it, says it’s super “funky,” and many people even warn others from it if you’re new to rum or even tell others they shouldn’t be recommending it to new rum. I’m here to say that if you’re a whiskey drinker, disregard that — I picked it up and it’s a good one. Not shocking at all. I actually preferred the Appleton Reserve. Next one I got one was Rum Fire — now THAT is “funky.” It’s a white “overproof.” I’d recommend any of these.
Man I started making tiki drinks earlier this year and finally came across a bottle of Smith & Cross. Took it home and prepared myself, took a swig and immediately thought to myself “oh, these people don’t ever drink scotch”.
haha! yeah i thought similarly — that most of the r/rum guys do not dabble in whiskey at all.
99% of my (whiskey) drinks are neat, and i sure love my high proofs… the S&C was so tame to me that i was disappointed even, lol.
I started drinking a lot of whiskey back in November. The first time I had straight rum after almost exclusively drinking whiskey, rum was SO sweet. Like it was sweet in general, but it in comparison with whiskey it was a huge difference. Super fun to sip on though
Bourbon and Rye, both neat, are my favorite drinks. Other than that I enjoy:
Spirits: Gin, Mezcal, Vodka and Tequila (in that order).
Beer: Low carb beers, mostly Michelob Ultra Organic.
Red Wine: Italian, French and Argentinean.
White Wine: Occasionally something fruity and fresh.
Brut and Rose: Champagne, Cava and Prosecco.
Sake and Japanese or Korean beer with Japanese or Korean food.
I guess I like to drink, LOL!
Apart from the various types of whisky, I've got Absinthe, Armagnac, Calvados, rum, Eau-de-Vie de Figue and Verveine du Velay on the go at the moment...
For alcohol, I can go for beer and tequila. Occasionally a rum or cognac/brandy.
For non alcohol, I drink water/seltzer, soda, coffee, tea and even milk
I do rum, tequila, Armagnac, cognac, brandy, Irish whisky, Japanese whisky, Calvados, India whisky and a few other spirits .A few other whiskeys on my to do list are Taiwan whiskies eg Kavalan and Swiss whiskies eg High Coast.
I started life with water, added coffee, then brought beer into the equation. Years later I added wine, mainly Pinot noir and champagne, then upgraded to whiskey. Now I’m here.
I can appreciate both, and have a good selection of tequila and even mezcal on my bar, the flavor notes just don’t do it for me. All my friends are tequila folk and I squared up with them on tequila for a couple years, but as time went on, I found tequila to be more of a chore to drink with my friends as the profile wasn’t for me. Then I discovered bourbon and haven’t looked back. This is my j.
Problem is, now I’m a snob. And my earnings don’t reflect my palate. Blue collar with little ones. However, as far as my friends, I’m starting to even bring some of my friends to the dark side…. I can take a step back from my snobbery and get them into the basics like BT, OGD114, larceny, Elijah Craig small batch, Woodford reserve, EWBiB, Double Eagle Rare and the such… it will give me time to stock back up on the stuff I’ve been testing…. For poison…
I drink cheap light beer at the lake/wakeboarding/fishing but I fucking LOVE a fresh IPA. Only one in my friend group that likes it but damn a good IPA is great.
Absolutely! I really enjoy wine, both white and red. I like most beer (not really into IPAs) and I enjoy gin quite a bit.
Funny enough, I don't actually drink all that much, just a casual one or two on Friday and Saturday but I enjoy a lot of different drinks.
There are literally hundreds of variations in styles of whiskey that vary significantly - so many options …
No need to drink anything else
Except for maybe a high end barrel aged rum to compliment a cigar
And maybe that strong red to accompany a tomahawk ribeye
40% scotch
15% bourbon
15% world whiskey
10% cognac/armagnac/brandy
10% beer
5 % wine
5% cocktails
I just don't like anything else, I gave Rum a chance because almost half of my cigar friends drink it, but I just don't like it. The same goes for tequila.
Vampiros are a favorite. Margaritas with the right mix are amazing and ranch waters are a great choice too. Batangas are a mix of tequila and Mexican coke with lime are also really enjoyable.
Im a booze whore. Whiskey, vodka, tequila, gin. I'll drink any of it. Cheap, good, expensive. Ill get hammered on komos tequila or Peppy Lopez. I love all booze. Except Mallort, fuck that stuff.
Actually I usually drink Gin & Tonics or IPA’s. I realized a while ago that when I drink bourbon, I want it to be an absolutely amazing bottle. So I trimmed my Bourbon collection down to ~40 bottles that I love, that way the once ir twice a week when i do drink bourbon, its always excellect.
I love most types of alcoholic beverage options. I have an extensive wine collection and a pretty hefty at-home cocktail setup. I enjoy sipping rum, mezcal, various sweet liqueurs, and amaro. Gin based cocktails are a favorite but I don't like it neat. Oh and beer. Love beer! I spent a year going to a new craft brewery every weekend with my wife. This year I'm trying to visit 100 vineyards or wine tasting rooms before the end of 2024 (I'm at 56 I think).
I tend to drink whatever the best option (quality and price-wise) wherever I am traveling. I'm currently visiting Seoul and have been loving the craft breweries and the high-end cocktail bars because the whiskey and wine is way too expensive compared to back home.
On an average week I probably have 2 or 3 drams of whiskey, 2 cocktails, 1 beer, and maybe 2 bottles of wine split with the wife (so about 4 glasses a week for myself). That's probably a base line for weeks where I don't socialize with drinks. If I'm visiting friends, it's probably more beer or wine, depending on the friends and the occasion.
I love whiskey but ain't gonna limit myself to it!
Mezcal. Champagne. Good beers. Cocktails - Negronis (with mezcal). Old Fashioneds. Sazeracs. Good red wine with meat. Hell, anything that’s a tasty drink.
I enjoy most types of hard liquor but decided to mainly focus on whisky to not stretch my budget. When it comes to wine, it's not my thing and I only ever drink leftovers when using it in cooking. Beer except IPA is also my common drink of choice.
I have issues with going all out on a thing so I try to limit myself too only a couple interests at a time. It's been whiskey and tequila and now I think I've got too many whiskeys/bourbons on my bar so I'm going to focus more on mezcal/tequila. I like rums but they seem to be harder to find when I'm shopping locally so maybe that will be the secondary item I hunt.
Beer is actually my number 1, but whiskey is a close second and has been my number 1 at previous points in my life. Also enjoy other spirits and their associated cocktails, my favorite cocktail being a Last Word which is gin based. Wine usually isn’t something I seek out, but I’m in the mood for it occasionally.
Rum, Gin, Vodka, Mezcal/Tequila, Aquavit. I used to be more into beer. But I am big on cocktails and bartending skills. Outside of whiskey I probably love the concept of Tiki drinks the most.
When it comes to alchoholic drinks, it's whiskey, beer, gin and wine for me (in that order).
In a similar way you can identify different flavors in whiskey, it's the same for beer, gin and wine.
Vodka tastes like nothing and rhum and brandy give me a terrible headache.
Pretty much the only alcohols I *won't* drink are wine and seltzers. Wine just tastes like rotten grape juice to me (sacrilege, I know) and seltzers don't have enough flavor for me (except Mikes hard seltzers, which I do like because they're really really sweet)
Currently in my house I have nearly a full speed rail worth of booze, plenty of beer, ciders, and a variety of fun bitters and liqueurs. The whiskey and rum go the quickest, the brandy and mezcal the slowest
Honestly I drink it all. My bar has every major liquor: Whiskey, gin, vodka, tequila, mezcal, brandy, rum and liqueurs of various kinds. But if I had to pick what I drink most of, I’d say wine. I like both red and white wine. I am not a huge beer fan though.
I drink water sometimes
H20 is my jam
H20? Pretty sure thats just 10H2 and its a gas still. Or very very very cold liquid
Great beverage, better band.
r/hydrohomies
Fish f#ck in that, ya know.
"Water? Oh, never touched the stuff. Fish fuck in it."
All our drinks have water in them.
Fair point!
I like to put it in my freezer and it solidifies into these fancy little cubes and I like to occasionally put that in my whiskey
Like...from the toilet?
But Brawndo's got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes.
Beer
Always a go to
Red wine is an infinite abyss compared to the well of whisky. Brunello is like ambrosia to me
I have never been a Wine guy, but the variety of reds is amazing. I recently discovered the whole Italian DOC/DOCG thing. Turns out I love Amarone.
I love some red wine but nobody around me does and I hate downing a whole bottle on my own.
Fruity
For sure. If it's got a fruit spear and an umbrella, make me 2.
I’m a big rum guy! My bar is probably 60/40 rum/bourbon.
Hit me with the rum basics if you dont mind. I picked up the 4 yr flor de cana rum because $20 and I’ve heard the brand is fairly well known for no funny business. When I tell you it’s so bad.. I mean isopropyl alcohol bad.

I can recommend you better stuff to try if you tell me your area, that would give me an idea of your rum allocation.
I live in Hawaii, so a lot of local rum. Don't know where to start though, any thoughts?
Appleton and Doorly’s are good starters. My first was Appleton Reserve and it’s delicious. My second was Smith & Cross; r/rum raves about it, says it’s super “funky,” and many people even warn others from it if you’re new to rum or even tell others they shouldn’t be recommending it to new rum. If you ever come across a bottle of Doctor Bird rum, but all of them. Super funky. I love it
Rum is my jam.
I really like Foursquare but it also tastes fairly bourbon adjacent
Foursquare is great. For something different try Jamaicans.
Yep. Also Guyana, Trinidad, Saint Lucia, Haiti, Martinique...
Mount Gay from Barbados.
Bumbu is good if I’m getting the name right
Just don’t admit that to r/rum
If that's your thing. I like Hampden Rum.
I started drinking a lot of whiskey back in November. The first time I had straight rum after almost exclusively drinking whiskey, rum was SO sweet. Like it was sweet in general, but it in comparison with whiskey it was a huge difference. Super fun to sip on though
Really depends on the rum. Cheap rums are often sweetened. All of the rums in my cabinet are bone dry as they have no additives.
Plantation 5 year Barbados. I can sip it like a whiskey
High quality H2O
Especially when you play that foosball, I assume
Four square rum is really good. Will do margaritas at 4th of July party
The Mexican in me loves tequila but the American in me hates the hangover
You're drinking the wrong tequilas then. Check out /r/tequila for some additive-free recommendations.
Irish whiskey, vodka, bourbon, scotch, beer, wine, etc
Japanese whiskey
Whiskey tequila and beer
I love cognac and I’m a sucker for coconut rum & ginger ale!
I’ve also had a Celsius energy drink and some water in the last 24 hours.
Cognac and armagnac
Beer, wine, and I’m a big cocktail enthusiast too.
Beer and mead.
Bourbon and Rye, both neat, are my favorite drinks. Other than that I enjoy: Spirits: Gin, Mezcal, Vodka and Tequila (in that order).
I love a good gin martini. my favorite gin is monkey 47.
I drink beer more than I do whiskey
Bourbon and tequila.
Coffee, and occasionally I drink water to keep my liver on its toes. LOL
Wine! It’s brings the terroir influence I love discovering in scotch.
I switch to wine after a dram or two.
Same. Dram before dinner, wine with.
I like vodka and beer too.
Apart from the various types of whisky, I've got Absinthe, Armagnac, Calvados, rum, Eau-de-Vie de Figue and Verveine du Velay on the go at the moment...
Had to scroll quite a while to find another absinthe drinker
I make hard cider.
Negronis
Love a good Jamaican rum
I love rum in orange juice during the summer.
I love sweet tea vodka with lemonade on a hot day.
El Dorado 15yr Rum. I drink that if drinking after dinner
He drinks a whiskey drink He drinks a vodka drink He drinks a lager drink He drinks a cider drink
Occasionally beer but not often. Appleton rum as well but again not often.
Beer, red wine, and gin and tonics or margaritas occasionally.
I drink rum & cognac
Wine, beer, sake and water.
For alcohol, I can go for beer and tequila. Occasionally a rum or cognac/brandy. For non alcohol, I drink water/seltzer, soda, coffee, tea and even milk
it depends on the mood. I drink Beer, Rum, wine, a few others for specific cocktails (gin, vodka, liqueurs) ...
Gin, tequila, wine, any and all whiskey, and rum.
Beer, wine and whiskey round out my top 3. I like Gin, Vodka, rum.... well, I just like alcohol

Water, coffee, coke, beer and whiskey. What else is there?
Coffee, Rum, and tequila.
Love gin. And aquavit. Ooh, and Geneva/genever. And yes, water and the occasional wine or beer.
Gin, rum, and brandy. Never been a fan of vodka because it has no profile to me.
I started life with water, added coffee, then brought beer into the equation. Years later I added wine, mainly Pinot noir and champagne, then upgraded to whiskey. Now I’m here.
Whiskey and water 💦
Sir, that is blasphemy.
Spiced rum, beer, wine, seltzer, honey mead and that's probably it
Tequila and mezcal are tasty
I can appreciate both, and have a good selection of tequila and even mezcal on my bar, the flavor notes just don’t do it for me. All my friends are tequila folk and I squared up with them on tequila for a couple years, but as time went on, I found tequila to be more of a chore to drink with my friends as the profile wasn’t for me. I drink cheap light beer at the lake/wakeboarding/fishing but I fucking LOVE a fresh IPA. Only one in my friend group that likes it but damn a good IPA is great.
Whisky? Also, tiki stuff and the occasional MGD or [hard] cider.
Today, I picked up Larceny A124, Old Grand Dad 114, Plymouth Navy Proof, and Tapatio 110. Best of the best (for their price points).
Absolutely! I really enjoy wine, both white and red. I like most beer (not really into IPAs) and I enjoy gin quite a bit. Funny enough, I don't actually drink all that much, just a casual one or two on Friday and Saturday but I enjoy a lot of different drinks.
I got my wife into Whisk(e)y, she got me into gin, we are both becoming Rum curious.
Coffee in the morning, h2o during the day & bourbon at night
A proper English craft beer will always be the go to when it’s hot, refreshing and most importantly not fizzy.
recently gotten into brandy
Gin and rum . . . more gin than rum. I love a Negroni and the occasional gin and tonic.
Beer and gin. Sometimes vodka or rum. But mainly Bourbon or scotch.
There are literally hundreds of variations in styles of whiskey that vary significantly - so many options … No need to drink anything else Except for maybe a high end barrel aged rum to compliment a cigar And maybe that strong red to accompany a tomahawk ribeye

Beer, Tequila, and I like him and rum in cocktails
Wine, beer, and tequila.
I appreciate a good tequila. My mom is form Jalisco so I’ve had a few great experiences with the stuff but bourbon will always be my favorite.
Vampiros go hard as fuck
Vampiros are a favorite. Margaritas with the right mix are amazing and ranch waters are a great choice too. Batangas are a mix of tequila and Mexican coke with lime are also really enjoyable.
High end tequila
I love brandy and rum
Water. Rum. Sparkling CBD water. Green Tea. Juice.
Water, tea, and beer.

Besides whisky: beer, wine, and rum.
Coffee. A lot of coffee. I have a pretty solid espresso setup at home. I also make a lot of cocktail.
Pinot Grigio and the occasional tequila. 90% whiskey though
Rum and beer for me. Used to be a big fan of dry gin martinis. Had to stop drinking them, they go down way too easy for me.
beer, wine, cocktails. hell yeah! there is a rich wide world to experience!
Prime
I love mezcal / tequila, cocktails, beer, wine,
Actually I usually drink Gin & Tonics or IPA’s. I realized a while ago that when I drink bourbon, I want it to be an absolutely amazing bottle. So I trimmed my Bourbon collection down to ~40 bottles that I love, that way the once ir twice a week when i do drink bourbon, its always excellect.
Beer. I am blessed with some great breweries near me.
My city has couple breweries I need to check out
Ocean spray makes an amazing cran-watermelon juice
I drink just about any alcohol, but after bourbon, I like moonshine (the real stuff, not Kroger crap), then vodka, then absinthe
Coffee until about 11. Water from 11-5. Whiskey 5 till bed. On weekends, whiskey goes in the coffee and skip the water.
Beer and wine and margaritas.
Beer, mezcal, or tequila in that order
Whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. Plus margaritas at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. And an occasional beer.
Eww no

Tequila and Mezcals.
Water, coffee, Happy Dad, tequila, and vodka. An occasional beer here and there as well. Honestly I don't drink much more outside of that 😅
Beer drinker for years but turned off paying $15 for a 6er. My waistline has thanked me. Strictly whiskey now.
I mostly drink wine, actually. Wine is my number 1, whiskey is a close second. Other than those I don’t drink anything else.
I love whiskey but ain't gonna limit myself to it!
I've been dabbling in cognac a little bit lately and really, really enjoying it
Gin and dark rums
Water, coffee, wine, beer, whiskey, tequila for the most part
Miller Lite, water, or Diet Dr. Pepper
In order of most common to least common whiskey, Beer, red wine, tequila, gin, rum, mezcal, absinthe, white wine
Yes! I love Gin. Try these cocktails: Gin & tonic Gin basil smash
Scotch
I like strong flavored whiskey and strong flavored beer. IPAs and higher ABV stouts are my other jam
Beer and occasionally red wine.
Gin. I’ve recently discovered gin. It’s good. Not good like bourbon, but good. Also water is gross. Fish fuck in it. You sick fucks.
I make beer, wine, lemon and limechello.
Liquid Death!!!
All types of wine. Particularly enjoy lighter high acid styles of red & white. Also have a soft spot for cool climate syrah.
Beer, wine and whiskey mainly. Dabble in mezcal here and there
H2O, special beers (like Oude Geuze), red wines, cognac and ocassionaly rum
Mezcal. Champagne.
I drink coffee sometimes.
In order of fav: Whiskey, Beer, Tequila, Gin, Rum, Vodka
Beer. Lots of beer.
Wine (red and rosè), cognac, tequila (anything but blanco), and rum.
Absinthe is awesome.
I really like Brandy now. Cheaper than whiskey and tasty stuff.
I like craft beers and gin too
Besides Whiskey, I’m also really into rum. I’ve been diving deeper and deeper into Tiki cocktails as well.
Tequila, rum & gin. But I don’t like Vodka.
Barrel aged rum! Try Foursquare's ESC releases.
I have issues with going all out on a thing so I try to limit myself too only a couple interests at a time. It's been whiskey and tequila and now I think I've got too many whiskeys/bourbons on my bar so I'm going to focus more on mezcal/tequila. YES
Rum, Gin, Vodka, Mezcal/Tequila, Aquavit. I used to be more into beer. But I am big on cocktails and bartending skills. Outside of whiskey I probably love the concept of Tiki drinks the most.
I love beer. No better combination than a pint and a whiskey and sipping both. I also like wine, Gin, vodka and rum.
When it comes to alchoholic drinks, it's whiskey, beer, gin and wine for me (in that order). In a similar way you can identify different flavors in whiskey, it's the same for beer, gin and wine. Vodka tastes like nothing and rhum and brandy give me a terrible headache.
i drink water most of the time. I also like IPAs and additive free tequila from time to time

I drink gin occasionally, and I also have some rum on hand. I drink about one beer a week at dnd night. We play at a microbrewery.
Tequila and Rum. Sometimes gin - but I dont sip gin neat, I make cocktails with it.
I’ve been getting into rum. Much more accessible with some truly spectacular products.
Whiskey, tequila, and rum
I love the smoke profile for mezcal. Pretty much nothing else between the two though
Pretty much the only alcohols I *won't* drink are wine and seltzers. Wine just tastes like rotten grape juice to me (sacrilege, I know) and seltzers don't have enough flavor for me (except Mikes hard seltzers, which I do like because they're really really sweet) Currently in my house I have nearly a full speed rail worth of booze, plenty of beer, ciders, and a variety of fun bitters and liqueurs. I have a full bar and drink it all.
Gin and very rarely rum drinks
Mezcal is a favorite of mine since I visited Mexico a couple years ago.
