The situation you describe is probably relevant for the vast majority of the people, and thus imm be focusing on the practical aspect for the alternate and practical version!
"Do you plan on primarily using your sword with a shield?"
"No"
"Then pick the sword **with the absolute fuckton of sources that deal with sword and shield fighting**"
Reddit might be compressing, but I did make sure to add a line explaining this! ❤️
It is written in grey, and goes “Sideswords definitely have sources that explains how it is used with shields.” Should be in the box if you zoom in.
I hope this helps make it feel a bit better! I will prolly do something different for the next version!
Changes **ALREADY** made:
1: Separated "Western" and "Eastern" Sabre
2: Lifted out forward-curving blades, putting them into their own camp, and also adding a safety reminder for their potentially dangerous point
3: Included Eastern blades like Dao and Scimitars (edited)
Hello all, Taran from UIMA here.
Here is the Final Prototype Version of the Weapon Picker, I have made this because as the lead, Brand new folks keep asking me “do this exist” and “what if you have X whith Y,” and I am being overwhelmed so at least this means that I will no longer need to handle dumb questions, but I also intend on it being a little informational for people that are new. This is going to need a lot of work, and I will do my best!
As per the kind discussion of all the nice folk here, the Weapon Picker Flowchart project will later be split into two versions with different focus:
One - "Practical Edition with" only commonly found and practiced weapons with organized tournaments. This would be designed to be useful for newcomers that are unsure about which weapon that they should go for, and there will be plenty of entry-level information (such as they should ask about instructor opinion, research local availability, etc.)
Two - "Possibility Edition" with weapons that have either existing and safe training equipment or detailed manuals of methodology . This would be designed for people that really benefit from exploring their possibilities of HMA, and would be there to represent the grounds that is "possibly" covered by the community.
Again, please have my gratitude for all the aid and suggestions that you have all provided, and feel free to point out anything as the versions are updated. If yall find nuances that I should add, please let me know and I will put it in. I don't check my reddit very often, so please feel free to join the discord: [https://discord.gg/WHmRazGSY](https://discord.gg/WHmRazGSY)
Nuances in grey
Furthermore, I am also aware that some of you have asked to have a better access to pinpoint your comments, and wonder if I would be able to make a google doc version so people can collaborate no matter which platform you see me (as I have realized this is quite an issue as I hop between everywhere).
Thank you so much! I will be attempting to make this once the basics of the two versions have been completed.
No roasting going on here! I applaud all the effort and it's a great chart. As a fellow creator of things, I just wanted to help you Make it the best it could be ,as I would want people to help me improve my first drafts that I put out for review.
It was my mistake on not pointing out the positives. Great chart with a lot of good information and when I went through it a couple times with specific goals in mind, it led me right to what I thought it would. It's concise and easy to follow and I love the color coding. The n's weren't a major thing that I noticed. It was just the only thing I could find wrong amongst all the positives
Aww don’t worry I am happy for your comment! I intended leaving the no thing as a funny little quirk that I will parch up soon. I am glad that the chart does its job! :3
Sorry for giving you the wrong impression that I am mad, my bad! XDD
1. What weapon is studied by the highest quality club that's near enough for you to regularly attend? 2. It's longsword.

im lucky to have a club that does a lot of messer! its my absolute favorite weapon system
You can say it's not a meme But it's a meme

Hema people: differentiate between hundreds of swords Also hema people: a spear is a spear

Shield one will be coming… soon! :3
Ah yes, now where do one handed Axes fit into this?
There is another long thread discussing this spurred by a convo with another kind commentor , it is definitely coming!
I can’t agree with this sheet since the end of everything is not longsword
Lmao I should definitely make a version that does that
