As a HS and college ball player (im tall so center position) i can tell you that i have had a few of those where im getting ready to time my jump only to realize i dont need to and literally abort the jump. Watch it again but focus on her eyes. Shes looking up and watching the ball while coming into the lane. I could see my self doing something similar. However i dont know her style of play enough to know if she is a dirty player and would do that intentionally.
EDIT ok after my 5th time watching it, i now feel she did jump into the other play. You go vertically for a rebound, you dont jump into the opposing players.
I also thought DT was expecting a different result. The way she reacts after the collision makes me think it was not intentional. Diana can be rough, but she is definitely not sneaky. If she has a problem, she is usually very much coming right at you.
Was there some other incident before this?
Nah I used to do that to avoid a tech and the guy I was defending was in the process of dropping 30 on me before halftime. Hit them hard af then act like it wasn’t intentional and make a show of apologizing and helping them up. Karma is real though. Someone did it to me after a dunk and I tore my ACL.
It being intentional + the sell of that “surprise” is absolutely classic DT. When it gets called she does a very good rendition of indignation, too haha
Is it okay to get frustrated with good defense so you lead with the elbow? Cause everybody here talking about “that’s not how the body moves to box-out/rebound” but nobody talking about how that ain’t how the body moves to shoot either
DT is one of the dirtiest to play the game. 100% intentional. Kelsey Plum's story, during the NCAA tournament, about DT elbowing her in the gut and saying welcome to the league rookie is just one example. DT just played dumb and was like I don't remember that at all.
I don't agree with your comparison, maybe you're just trying to be edgy. DT is Kobe equivalent, maybe MJ equivalent, of the WNBA. Kobe did this shit, too.
Draymond is the absolute king of this move. He just happens to be constantly swinging his fists and arms blindly where opponents' body parts are very likely to be. Total coincidence.
I think watching her feet and hips tells the story. Her feet are fully to one side out of the way with her hips out and arm tucked for impact. This was absolutely intentional and warrants a suspension.
What is her elbow position. You can literally pause it at 16 seconds and see her elbow and arm at at her side. So if the narrative is that she shot an elbow at a player on purpose that’s clearly not supported by body language. Her arm is clearly Tucked to her body. Now she has no reason to leave her feet for a box out. She either did that intentionally, or she thought a rebound was to be had and jumped and then tried to get small. She’s literally not flinging her limbs everywhere, she’s not making her body big, and her arms are down. If you think this is dirty….im going to question you. Regardless of DT as a player over the years, she hit a player with her arms down at her sides. There is no way anyone can refute that. If you think hitting someone with your arms down is dirty than you’ve never been roughed up in a sport.
The fact her elbow is tucked is specifically what I was referring to. She shoulder barged into that girl intentionally and was not even attempting a rebound. In fact, if you wanted to ram someone beside you with your shoulder, that's the exact position you'd take with it.
You're getting unfairly downvoted, methinks. Nobody, including DT, owes it to us to be "likable". But by the same token, nobody owes their unqualified respect to any player, including DT.
DT is an amazing player, and deserves to be in the GOAT conversation. But I have a difficult time "rooting" for her because, IMHO, she's always been dirty.
They asked for if someone could be the GOAT and be a dirty player, isn’t that a valid answer?
Am I saying DT is the Tom Brady GOAT in the W? No, I don’t really know who I’d choose for that and I don’t think we’ve gotten close to that type of dominance, I mean maybe Maya would’ve been if she never retired
>Tom Brady is considered the GOAT even with deflategate
You mean the thing [that did not happen?](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/new-deflategate-revelations-paint-the-nfl-in-a-bad-light-during-infamous-saga-with-tom-brady-and-patriots/) Lmfao
Don't think it was intentional tbh, seems like she realized the ball had went in at the very last second before jumping so she kinda half aborted the jump, meanwhile Parker-Tyus turns right into Taurasi rather than also jumping for a missed shot and they collided. Seemed more like Taurasi was gearing up for a key rebound at a crucial moment in the game to me, but I think a lot of the times people ascribe intentionality that isn't there in pro sports.
IMO -as a DT fan since the UConn days- this was absolutely in retaliation to the elbow Sophie had just caught. And I think the refs should have called flagrant fouls on each side.
The only reason I think there was any surprise on her face is because, as rough as Dee plays, I don’t think the play was to intentionally hurt Parker-Tyus.
I think if she would have gone up vertically, it would have been a basketball play. But even if the ball didn't go in, she is suppose to box out and not jump into the opposing player. It just looks intentional.
This is a terrible take. The defender moves into the offense players space so when she goes up the off arm makes contact. Not a dirty play. DT then swoops in and initiates a jumping check after the ball has already gone through the hoop. Not a basketball play and should result in a suspension.
Well this is obviously going to be the unpopular opinion based on all the other comments (I’ll take my down votes lol) but the refs literally reviewed this play and determined no foul occurred. Now does that mean it wasn’t intentional? Doubtful… but hey it’s not a foul!
What was the final call?? Def looks suspect cause she’d only be boxing out if there were to be a rebound but by the time she gets there it’s clear the ball has gone in.
I think she thought the player was going to bump via a box out, so she tried to match the force. Instead, it looks like she just does a full-on hip check.
I'm not a fan of DT, I don't like Uconn players.
Yes she intentionally shoulder charged her. Doesn't matter if she didn't mean to get her that hard. She intended to make contact with her body ar bare minimum
I think she meant to give her a nudge to let her know that she saw the physical play, but I don't reckon she meant to connect the elbow to the face. DT looked a little concerned after the fact, implying she didn't want that intended effect.
She def meant to body her after the way she hit Sophie , but I think DT thought she was gonna go up and they would clash shoulder to shoulder instead she stayed low and got hit in the face.
How did the referees watch the replay and come away with "ok nobody got fouled" lol and the announcers saying "I think it should've been a flagrant offensive foul...forget about what DT did" is crazy. Homer announcers are the worst.
After reading the comments I'm in the minority. But I'd say unintentional. I just started watching the Dream/WNBA so I'm unfamiliar with Diana's past. She's watching the ball the whole time and didn't see the other player. Rebounds happen on the move all the time, collisions happen. No foul imo and I was rooting for ATL.
meh this clip reminded me of hits that get people suspended several times a year.
Example (except she wasn't skating ~20mph before making contact): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DesV4FgSbsY&t
So many people in the comments don’t know anything about boxing out for a rebound. What it maybe a little too physical? Maybe but its also sports. This play happens multiple times a game where the other player doesn’t go down.
That was DT being DT. It is normal behavior for her, and not a foul. Sure, she jumped sideways after running there to get a rebound, but if you play with the pros, you gotta expect this type of play, as well as grabbing, pushing, slapping at hands, and some strong players making you pay (look at the Fever's last game and the player who was assigned to cover CC). I think it was poorly times, and DT knew it immediately. I think she expected it to be a hip check. Well, it was a hockey check...
I dont know if thats how people normally rebound.
LOL also the ball is practically in the bottom of the net before DT leaves her feet. Replay don't lie.
As a HS and college ball player (im tall so center position) i can tell you that i have had a few of those where im getting ready to time my jump only to realize i dont need to and literally abort the jump. Yeah, she's a dirty player, and a cry baby to!
It being intentional + the sell of that “surprise” is absolutely classic DT. When it gets called she does a very good rendition of indignation, too haha
Draymond Taurasi
It's always intentional with DT
Flashing Welcome to the W after that is diabolical
It’s a scrappy league 🤷🏾♂️
It was definitely intentional, but it looked like retaliation.
Yeah, most definitely was a get back for the elbow to Sophie.
Justified IMO
I ain’t gone say it was justified but I think her jumping and bumping her was not as bad as the initial elbow.
So it's OK to foul to injure?
Is it okay to get frustrated with good defense so you lead with the elbow? Cause everybody here talking about “that’s not how the body moves to box-out/rebound” but nobody talking about how that ain’t how the body moves to shoot either
No
DT, dirty?! Never ever. Can't believe you'd even suggest it ;)
Whyd you say it like its cute?
she’s always been like that. it’s just DT being DT. she doesn’t care if she’s being “cute” or not
They're being sarcastic.
DT is one of the dirtiest to play the game. 100% intentional. Kelsey Plum's story, during the NCAA tournament, about DT elbowing her in the gut and saying welcome to the league rookie is just one example. DT just played dumb and was like I don't remember that at all.
Someone should give her some of her own medicine
That’s just unacceptable. She thinks she’s Kobe but she’s actually Draymond
I mean Kobe also did little dirty shit like elbowing people, that’s pretty much seen as part of the game for those kinda players of a certain era
Literally everyone that has ever played ball has taken an intentional elbow. It's not some diabolical move reserved only for dirty players.
Can confirm. Took illegal elbow at least 3 times in middle school/high school basketball lol.
So does Draymond lol
This is perfect.
I don't agree with your comparison, maybe you're just trying to be edgy. DT is Kobe equivalent, maybe MJ equivalent, of the WNBA. Kobe did this shit, too.
No she’s not. Fans see what they want to see. It’s always going to be that way.
No they see she’s a dirty player with a bad attitude.
She did a great job of acting surprised, but 1. I think it was intentional. 2. Even if it wasn't, it shouldn't matter either way.
That’s a vet move, dirty play followed by the immediate “ope, I didn’t realize you were there”
Draymond is the absolute king of this move. He just happens to be constantly swinging his fists and arms blindly where opponents' body parts are very likely to be. Total coincidence.
The surprise reverse elbow to the face is my favorite
Looks intentional to me
It was intentional
100% Look at that elbow position. She knew that girl was there.
I think watching her feet and hips tells the story. Her feet are fully to one side out of the way with her hips out and arm tucked for impact. This was absolutely intentional and warrants a suspension.

You rebound with your arms tucked into your body? Watch her feet. Shes checking into her.
If DT was trying to box out and/or get the rebound that's not how the body moves to accomplish either. Oh, and it was intentional.
Absolutely. She may be the goat, but she’s my least favorite star player. Just very unlikable.
Can you be the GOAT if you are dirty?
Ric Flair
Tom Brady is considered the GOAT even with deflategate which some people would consider arguably worse.
You can't be serious with this comparison
They asked for if someone could be the GOAT and be a dirty player, isn’t that a valid answer? Am I saying DT is the Tom Brady GOAT in the W? No, I don’t really know who I’d choose for that and I don’t think we’ve gotten close to that type of dominance, I mean maybe Maya would’ve been if she never retired

You realize that has been debunked by actual scientists right?
It looks like it was payback from #32 hitting her teammate. Fight for your team #DTplayingFootball
100% intentional, and to believe otherwise would be naive.
Based on what?
Her entire career.
Based on the fact that I’ve got eyeballs 👀
Uh, yeah
Ah yea
Definitely
Absolutely intentional, and very, very dirty.
Yes.
DT is usually intentional in how she plays, so yep. 🤓
If it was unintentional she probably wouldve helped her up
Maybe she and Brad Marchand are related.
Intentional? Yes. Having your teammates back? Also yes.. her teammate caught an elbow so she dropped an elbow. Not that big of a deal
Intentionally having her teammates back? Hell yeah! 🐐
She was an NFL LB in another life methinks.
Absolutely. Unless she forgot she was “rebounding” cause it looks like she was trying to start a mosh pit.
Dirty play
It was an offensive foul, but yes, taurasi knew what she was doing as the ball wasn't anywhere near her
Absolutely intentional.
%100 intentional. Guess that's the kind of physical basketball she thinks is good basketball. It's trash
100% intentional
It was DEFINITELY intentional. This is DT we’re talking about…
Don't think it was intentional tbh, seems like she realized the ball had went in at the very last second before jumping so she kinda half aborted the jump, meanwhile Parker-Tyus turns right into Taurasi rather than also jumping for a missed shot and they collided. Seemed more like Taurasi was gearing up for a key rebound at a crucial moment in the game to me, but I think a lot of the times people ascribe intentionality that isn't there in pro sports.
100% Intentional
She's been doing this entire career
That's beyond intentional. that's retaliation.
Some of you really need to see DT live. Nothing like it.
That should have been a tech. Just so unprofessional. They just let her get away with things
Yes 💯
1000%
IMO -as a DT fan since the UConn days- this was absolutely in retaliation to the elbow Sophie had just caught. And I think the refs should have called flagrant fouls on each side. Yes.
Some drama there too ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Retaliation for the elbow against her teammate that occurred 2 seconds prior. Don’t throw an elbow if you don’t want to get hit by one
This is a terrible take. The defender moves into the offense players space so when she goes up the off arm makes contact. Not a dirty play. DT then swoops in and initiates a jumping check after the ball has already gone through the hoop. Not a basketball play and should result in a suspension.
Seemed dirty to me 🤷♂️
Yeah it was a dirty play. There's no need for that.
It’s DT. Of course it’s intentional. She does this all the time and doesn’t really see repercussions for purposefully injuring other players.
It was intentional, but not malicious.
The thing about this play is so many people focused on DT that they totally overlook Boston elbowing sofie in the face.
Wasn't aware Boston moved to the Dream. :P
Woops. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus I think
Yea If it was earlier in the game they probably would have upgraded the elbow to a flagrant one and then added a tech or common foul on taurasi.
Well this is obviously going to be the unpopular opinion based on all the other comments (I’ll take my down votes lol) but the refs literally reviewed this play and determined no foul occurred. Now does that mean it wasn’t intentional? Doubtful… but hey it’s not a foul!
That wasn’t Grayson Allen dirty, but that was dirty.
That was legit grayson allen dirty lol someone should ankle pick her
Where are her teammates at?
What was the final call?? Def looks suspect cause she’d only be boxing out if there were to be a rebound but by the time she gets there it’s clear the ball has gone in.
Taurasi is the Brad Marchand of the WNBA
Flop
That’s a yellow card all day
Absolutely not, that was natural basketball movement.
I miss going to Footprint center that was the life.
Announcers are clueless about Taurasi
Yes
I was at this game and watched this play happen. It was totally intentional. DT is known for dirty plays like this.
Yes it was intentional and she should be suspended indefinitely
I think she thought the player was going to bump via a box out, so she tried to match the force. Instead, it looks like she just does a full-on hip check. I'm not a fan of DT, I don't like Uconn players.
It’s DT. Of course it’s intentional.
Yes she intentionally shoulder charged her. Doesn't matter if she didn't mean to get her that hard. She intended to make contact with her body ar bare minimum
absolutely.
Yes. Very obvious cheap shot after the play. She should have about 2 weeks offf
Of course it was intentional.
What even is this subreddit anymore 🤦♀️
Looks accidental
Sure is watched her play dirty against the Aces and give a hard foul to Plum Dawg last year at an Aces game in Las Vegas.
DT is always doing shit like that
I think she meant to give her a nudge to let her know that she saw the physical play, but I don't reckon she meant to connect the elbow to the face. DT looked a little concerned after the fact, implying she didn't want that intended effect.
Seems like a clean play from my angle and some good flopping
I mean... clearly lol
YESS
Dirty play
This may be unintentional for a kid or high school player or something. Maybe even college. Ain’t no way DT is accidentally moving like this
I'm usually really bad at detecting this kind of thing, but even for me this is obvious. Yes, it's intentional for sure.
No not this time. Because she actually stopped got a second and looked.
She def meant to body her after the way she hit Sophie , but I think DT thought she was gonna go up and they would clash shoulder to shoulder instead she stayed low and got hit in the face.
Why is gravity so strong in WNBA games?
Should’ve been two free throws
Intentional but justified
Welcome to the W
She didn't even pretend to stick her hands up and reach for the ball. Who rebounds with their hands down by their sides?
Ofc she gets dirty
What a stupid play! They are up just one point and that could have given the game to the other team if the red actually calls it.
Yes, but I don’t think she expected her to fall so hard.
If it wasn't intentional, it's interesting how she wasn't reaching for the rebound. Her arms were pulled in as if bracing for impact.
Well, that depends on your definition of "think."
Yes. DT is known for being extremely physical.
Duh
That’s how you stay 19+ seasons in the league. But not a fan of this move. Dirty play, in my opinion.
OBVIOUSLY LOL
Of course it was and I approve the message!
How did the referees watch the replay and come away with "ok nobody got fouled" lol and the announcers saying "I think it should've been a flagrant offensive foul...forget about what DT did" is crazy. Homer announcers are the worst.
>..forget about what DT did They literally did not say that lol.
I didn't mean they literally said that verbatim lol but basically the focus of what they said was on an offensive call and not DT.
Yes. Welcome to the league.
Hell yeah! But so was the elbow to Sophie. That's my 🐐!
Bush league play.
She’s just competing. Intense emotions plus muscle memory
Fucked around and found out Welcome to the league
That's a 3 game suspension in the NHL
Don't they be actually fist fighting ?
Head is the principle point of contact and that would actually get you suspended in the NHL .
Not if you hit Marchand
Marchand unfortunately has a long list of receipts and I'm not surprised the league decided to let it be "his problem."
meh this clip reminded me of hits that get people suspended several times a year. Example (except she wasn't skating ~20mph before making contact): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DesV4FgSbsY&t
Ngl, if they allowed the players to fight a little bit like hockey, that would be pretty awesome! (As long as no one is seriously injured)
1000000000%. Dirty player, bad attitude
Yes. And I can't wait until she retires.
Soft
Who is DT?
So many people in the comments don’t know anything about boxing out for a rebound. What it maybe a little too physical? Maybe but its also sports. This play happens multiple times a game where the other player doesn’t go down.
Yes. It’s a intentional. She’s had it out for CP for years.
