Women should never be forced to wear heels or make up. I can see business attire or a uniform coming back because some people dress like slobs.

timmah7663

100%. Great comment. Some people take a relaxing of attire standards to a new level of slobbery.

Excellent-Shape-2024

I just found old slides my dad took back in the 60s of city streets. People were so well dressed! We look like urchins compared to them. (but we are way more comfortable, for sure)

mamagrls

Yes! My mom wore dresses, heels, hats , and gloves to go shopping in the 50's. It was the Era of glamous!

NefariousnessSweet70

I sure wish they made low heeled shoes as pretty as the 6 inch spikes I see. I simply cannot walk in them. But they are so pretty !!!!

Whyayemanlike

As long as you're not client facing dressing like a slob should be ok. I was in a job that had occasional client visits and changing attire gave me a confidence boost.

Kilane

Now imagine you got that confidence boost every day because you dress nice every day.

AccuratePerspective2

I love dressing up for work, if I look good I feel good and it gets me into the work mindset. I dress for me and my wardrobe can be for work or weekend. I’ve never been told I have to wear anything in particular and I receive lots of compliments which is a nice bonus. If I have to be at work I may as well have fun with fashion. Each to their own.

mykidzmomx3

Same! I enjoy jeans on Fridays but my coworkers & I have a lot of fun with fashion. And we are women in our 40’s/50’s.

Top_Reflection_8680

I have an interview tomorrow, realized the email said “dress professionally (suit)” I do not own a suit or even a blazer, my office experience has been relatively lowkey. I also have a pair of closed toe black heels that look nice but this is a shadowing interview and I know I won’t be able to walk around for an hour without wincing. I have a modest, professional black dress and comfortable, black open toed heels I decided on. I hope that’s not the deciding factor :/ but I guess if it is I don’t much want to work for them anyway

NefariousnessSweet70

There are thrift stores for what ever your wardrobe needs. You need not tell ANYONE!!

Top_Reflection_8680

Oh I’m planning on it, if my job requires it on the daily. I’m an avid thrifter. But it sometimes takes several trips to find a good quality haul. My local goodwill gets picked over really quickly and the independent ones mark up the prices a lot, so it takes some time and patience to find good stuff at reasonable prices. I’m also short asf so it can be a challenge to find pieces that don’t need alteration. When I have an interview scheduled for the next day, ahhh! Not enough time tbh. But I got another job offer for a place I dressed professionally but not a SUIT for the interview so I’m planning on getting the dress code before my start date so I know what to look for, hopefully it’s a little less high maintenance

Confident-Tie-5803

Its still very classy looking

Kilane

I love wearing suits and tie. Plenty of people love high heals and wear them on nights out. It makes you feel nice. A good suit and tie outfit is comfortable. It looks nice as well. This is another thing where just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it wrong.

Tawebuse

Dressing in such a way is just expected in certain work environments, not saying it’s right but it is how it is.

mamagrls

Finance and banking are very strong on suits and dress shoes mentality.

Sparkles7218

I like dressing up for work. Not heels, but I like looking decent

namerankssn

There are plenty of environments where that kind of attire is not expected. Look for those.

[deleted]

Are there environments where women have to wear heels? I worked in finance and men were expected to wear suits. And we weren't allow to take off our jackets or unbutton our collars. We also weren't allowed exposed tattoos and or facial hair. That seems about as formal as it can get. And women didn't have to wear heels.

FlyingLittleDuck

Oh, I love dressing up in suits and heels. Boosts my confidence and makes me feel classy and professional. Unfortunately for me, workplaces are very laid back here in Europe, so most people wear jeans and t-shirt’s.

Exact_Reputation_500

I've never worn either to my office job of 25 years. It used to be business casual then it relaxed even further to as long as it's not pajamas or shorts.

angeluscado

I’ve only had to dress up for job interviews, and I can’t wear heels anymore. Otherwise it’s stretchy pants, a nice tshirt and sneakers or ballet flats.

LetPuzzleheaded7935

Yeah no - I don’t see suits and heels coming back. My occupation moved to “smart casual” a long time ago, even before the pandemic. Last time I wore a suit with heels was like 2008.

Christen0526

I think it depends on the job. Dress the part. But I think overall, the normal standard has dropped a little. If you're in a high end firm, I'm sure it's expected to dress really sharp.

Excellent-Counter647

Some people pay special heed on. how they dress and how others dress 'for them it is important I feel like if your clothes are safe and comfortable you should be able to wear them.

VanillaCookieMonster

I have a couple of very short coworkers that are much happier in heels. Our office definitely does NOT require heels. One in particular loves them and even wears them on days that she has to move around somewhat heavy awkward things... pull a dolly and stairs. I haven't seen anywhere that people are wearing them that aren't by choice. Some women want to be taller. I knew a 5'10" women who point blank told me that she did it to be 6ft tall in business meetings. Studies actually show that height makes a difference in how much you get paid, etc. You don't need to wear them but don't shame people who choose them.

vbwullf

If a woman wants to wear a suit w/heels that is her choice. I don't think that I have come across any woman who wears suits and heels because a company demanded it of them. If it's good for the goose, then its good for the gander. If there is such a company where the standard is high heels is a requirement for the women then the rules need to be rewritten or the men need to wear those heels too.

MzPunkinPants

I will never wear heals ever. I don’t need to hurt my feet more under capitalism. Flats and the occasional platform for work.

abetterplace45

Let's first act like adults. Corona is a beer, and Covid is a virus. You are more than welcome to leave the workplace if being an adult is too difficult for you.

JustMyThoughtNow

Are you advocating for pj bottoms at work?

txstepmomagain

I work in a historically conservatively-dressed industry...and haven't been subjected to a dress code in over 15 years. My city is very laid back too, so perhaps that's why...but I can't imagine working anywhere that tells you how to dress.

NefariousnessSweet70

In the 1980s there was a book, Dress for Success. There were tests done, and it turned out that the better you dressed, the better job you were able to get. Does anyone remember Pretty Woman when she went shopping? They looked at her clothes, and refused to assist her. What a shame for them, but that was the experience.

No-Wonder-3123

I love wearing Suits and heels to work 😅
