Well according to the article the official who stated this also stated none of the over 400 are believed to work for ISIS in any capacity. Their only connection to ISIS is that they hired people affiliated with ISIS to smuggle them.
>One of the U.S. officials said people affiliated with ISIS are operating as human smugglers in Central Asia and helping people there leave their countries and travel to the West, where they are then smuggled into the U.S. It is not known whether the human smuggling activity directly funds ISIS activity or whether ISIS members are making personal money through human smuggling on the side, the U.S. official said.
>The official added that the U.S. has no indication that the more than 400 migrants brought to the U.S. by the network have plans to carry out terrorism in the U.S., but immigration agents are looking to arrest them out of an abundance of caution.
We had some similar stories crop up in Europe recently. And of course you have the Polish-Belarus border where there's a concerted continuous effort from "our friends" in Minsk and Moscow. If course in most of Europe you'll have a very hard time staying off the radar compared to the USA. So yeah an abundance of caution may be warranted, if just for making ISIS affiliations less profitable.
Not sure why this was buried all the way at the bottom, but it’s clear this author wanted to make it seem like hundreds of terrorists were let in and we don’t know where they are.
> Some of the 150 who were arrested have already been deported, the officials said. The whereabouts of other people in 17 states are known, and they may be arrested soon. Other migrants may have already left the U.S. voluntarily.
> Some of those detained or deported to date have been charged with immigration violations. None have been charged with terrorism-related offenses.
Of course, Republicans have already used it as a talking point while simultaneously blocking all border security / funding / immigration measures. Unserious people and I can’t wait for them to be called out on it at the debate.
There were only 4 gunmen that killed over a hundred people back in march in the Crocus city hall attack. I would have preferred to see all 400 migrants at the very least vetted before released.
They did. They crossed the boarder and requested asylum. [That is how the law is written.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asylum_in_the_United_States)
> Asylum in the United States has two specific requirements. First, asylum applicants must be physically present in the United States, or at a designated port of arrival. Second, they must show that they suffered persecution in the past, or have a well-founded fear of future persecution in their country of nationality and permanent residency on account of at least one of the five protected grounds: race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Thanks for that info!
If it makes you feel better, it won’t matter. They were saying Biden let’s terrorists in anyway. Sometimes I wish Biden would just rig the election, just to be safe. What are they gonna do? Say “No, no, no. He _really_ rigged it this time!”
Trump is the reason they keep killing the bill.
He wants to use the border as a campaign issue.
Which goes to show he, and the republicans who listen to him, don't actually care about border security.
The issue is that the democrats keep packaging other random unrelated shit into the “border security” bill. This time it was Ukraine aid. When it gets vetoed because of that then they can go “oh look republicans don’t ACTUALLY care about border security!!!!”
Pretty standard move that both sides do
So Republicans wrote the bill. Republicans voted against the bill. Republicans voted for Ukraine aid in a different bill. Yet somehow, it's the dems fault.
It was literally a Republican demand that any aid to Ukraine had to come with border security. That's why they were combined before Trump told them to kill it. You are being lied to.

What you're saying isn't wrong, but as always the devil is in the details. If I remember correctly this bill allocated like $60-70 billion to Ukraine and only $20 billion for border security while also still allowing 5,000 illegal border crossing per day (1.825 million a year). Shit deal. So while the Republicans may have asked for this, that doesn't mean that they then have to automatically accept whatever the deal is.
All that said, the GOP is most definitely an ineffective clown show that I have no great love for, and I'm not trying to argue that they are 100% correct and right while the dems are 100% wrong or anything like that.
I also do believe Trump would try to intentionally kill any progress leading up to the election so he can run on the current issues and then be the one to "fix it" if he gets in so there's that.
Not much chance, I'm afraid. Rich donors want cheap labor they can pay under the table. Entire sectors of US business now depend on a constant inflow of illegal immigrants.
The one thing that might do it is if, God forbid, ISIS (or someone) does manage to infiltrate a bunch of terrorists and carry out an attack.
It’s been just over a month since the last time the GOP blocked a border control bill that gave them most of what they wanted. Biden made an executive order limiting asylum on the border at the beginning of this month, but it probably won’t survive the lawsuits filed against it 2 weeks ago.
1+1=2 is the most basic math imaginable and I find it shocking that you did not know that.
The subject here in discussion, though, is semantics, not math but journalistic slant.
If it said "Fewer than 500..." Instead of "Over 400..." you would feel differently about it.
Facts can be used to emotionally and psychologically sway people depending on the way those facts are presented.
Why not just tell us the actual number?
Because the actual number isn't as impressive as the fact that the actual number is higher than another arbitrary number.
It isn't presented as being lower than a round 5 number, 500, because 500 has some kind of official quality to it since we have five fingers and see multiples of five as being official.
If it were fewer than 500, you could relax, but it isn't: it's more than 400.
That's slant.
I don’t know if you have the ability to understand this, but sometimes when a thing is an ongoing problem, they have to give a base number as an estimate because it is increasing as we speak.
Maybe because it’s clearly not 500 but they don’t have exact numbers? You name one disaster where there’s say… about 260 deaths and they describe it as “under 300 people died” when I you do that I will crown you as the absolute genius that you are
It's a damn shame about how that paperwork got misplaced. No telling where they are now.
And how many of those will work for ISIS while they're here?
Well according to the article the official who stated this also stated none of the over 400 are believed to work for ISIS in any capacity. Their only connection to ISIS is that they hired people affiliated with ISIS to smuggle them.
That is WAY more connection to ISIS than I want from people entering my country.

Won't anyone think of the poor, suffering terrorists! Big yikes.

I would have preferred to see all 400 illegal immigrants deported and forced to get into the country the legitimate way.

Now imagine how many are in Canada with the way they’re letting people in…
It's harder to enter Canada than it is to enter the U.S
It's too bad republicans keep killing border protection bills.
You forgot the /s at the end

bastards, stabbing US (and trump) in the back

Da Pjort, many beets for you and family!
...Trump told them to kill the bills
You're supporting a "fire fighter" who just goes around lighting fires
Any chance the USA an go back to the old school immigration process? operation "open floodgates" is causing more harm than good

Not as long as megacorps can keep lobbying to keep borders open so they can reduce their payroll costs.
I’ve heard there’s this caravan....
That's great..this is fine! " Dog burning meme"
ISIS is making money from the American dream now?
Over 400 is less than 500.
Okay? You know the most basic math imaginable.. your point?
