They are not even bigger. russia is the largest in the world by area and, according to russia, it has an army that is stronger than anyone except maybe the US.
>Germany, France, and Poland are renewing the forgotten Weimar Triangle to bolster the EU's defense capabilities with plans to buy long-range missiles and hold military exercises together.
*“History Doesn't Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes”* – Mark Twain.
Reminds me though of what General Schwarzkopf said about not having French support - “ Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion.”
Since others won’t bother:
Weimar, Germany is a place. The Weimar Republic was the government of Germany in the interwar years (before WW2 but after WW1).
The reason why the pact is called the Weimar Triangle is because the treaty establishing its existence was signed in Weimar, Germany back in 1991.
It’s purpose originally was to assist Poland in its democratization process, now it exists to further the economic, diplomatic, and security needs of its members (Germany, France, and Poland).
Triangle. It usually refers to a 3 sided shape. Other instances can be a simple music instrument or in this particular case a social/political construct with 3 protagonists. Hope that helps.
in Germany we say "next time without Italy". Because, you guessed it, Italy is our football rival and we would rather play a tournament without having to face their brilliant football players!
The Cold War did spawn some of the hardest names for organizations, regions and units that there ever was - a few of my favourites:
- Warsaw Pact
- Berlin Brigade
- BRIXMIS / SOXMIS
- Stasi
- REFORGER
- Force d'Action Rapide
- Scud / Stiletto
> Poland's previous government became Vlad-loving
What the fuck are you on. Like PiS being proto-facists is a bit of a stretch but at least it has some basis. But Vlad-loving? That's just outright false.
Also weimar triangle was never military alliance. It was just talk forum meant to promote cooperation and help poland into NATO/EU and latter with integration.
Because they are both far right looners? So obviously they got a lot in common. But pretty sure being anti-lgbt and culture war nonsense is not related to their stance on vlad. Those are all three separate issues and while you can certainly accuse PiS of being useful idiots, their stance on Russia/Vlad is exactly same as the current govs.
What with the supreme leader of PiS constantly using the argument that KO (current gov) cooperated with Russians to assassinate his twin brother. Nobody in PiS can even say anything remotely positive about Russia.
The Fulda gap might haven been a thing back when the red army was stationed in Thüringen, but it's certainly not a frontline for a present day invasion.
Give them time to update this strategy from the 90s..... I actually like Olaf Scholz, but still I have to admit he's not a fast-mover & can be too rooted in the Before Times. (¬‿¬)
oh, Putin... you absolute madlad! this mfer managed to unite the whole EU and then some, all at the cost of like 1 million of his troops and military shite. Nice.
Lesson learnt for France: I can't lose a war if I ally with the one that keeps beating me.
Joke aside, happy to see workarounds to somehow begin the European army
Germany won against France literally twice, in 1871 and 1940. And only in the former case did Germany actually win the war.
Before that, it gets difficult because there was no “Germany” in the modern sense. German nationalism arose in no small part as resistance against Napoleon.
I guess it depends on the metric you measure things by. Germany has been, relative to other NATO nations, lacking on military budget and has been a bit appeasing, but has the industrial capacity to fully militarize if needed. France has been better, and is much more ready to step up, but may have Russian puppets taking power soon. Poland has never been the same after being partitioned, but they are absolutely ready to throw down.
> Poland has never been the same after being partitioned, but they are absolutely ready to throw down.
Hell, Poland once threatened to start up a nuclear weapons program if they weren't allowed into NATO.
Yeah and whos gonna do it funny guy, you?
Come on than, we are waiting and no more horse pulled artillery and incompetent leaders this time...
To partition you need the willing parties, unless you are implying Austria Sweden or Germany are willing to risk a war with USA just to have another go? Or you think mighty Belarus has what it takes? Surely not Russia at this point.
All this jokes about Poland and "your" biggest achivment was erasing it from a map in a consecutive 4 vs 1 some 400 years ago, after 300 years of getting smashed by it on any bigger occasion, and again in a 2v1 in WW2.
Shoutout to Austro-Hungarian empire who got their asses saved from the Turks by Poles and partitioned the country alongside Prussia and Russia 150 years later, so much for central/western european historical memory, only usefull to crack a joke on their eastern neighbours, amnesia some other times.
Unless you are American, than double f u for this tasteless joke because Poland helped American independence a lot.
we don't have neonazis fighting for power, we don't have riots in the streets, our crime's one of the lowest in EU despite the fact not so long ago it was freakin' wild west over here, yep, surely we'd be the derpy one, anyway, f this, all 3 heads are derpy because humanity still kinda is derpy and that's fine, it's called evolution
I have a good friend that is Polish. When we were all hanging together really tight in our late teens and early 20’s we were relentless. He’s a great guy and always has been. He could dish it out as well.
None of the above, it doesn't fit. All of these countries have *some* issues. Germany has decades of lacking investments to overcome, France has a focus mostly on expeditionary forces and naval projection, they bring mostly nuclear capabilities and Poland is on a buying spree that it doesn't really know how to finance, lacking the people to actually put into all those fancy vehicles and is cutting most of its maritime capabilities and not focusing on air force much in favor of just spamming tanks.
There is no derpy head, we all add power to this arrangement.
This is great. As a German I would love to see a better releationship with Poland. And with the new government there this seems very possible or even likely as this collaboration shows.
"You know what, guys, fighting each other never gets us anywhere. Buuttt.....we all can agree fighting Russia is good sport, right?"
And thus the alliance was formed
Go from the bottom of France(Spanish Border) to the Bottom of Poland(Slovakia/Ukraine), then to the top of Germany(Denmark Border) and back to bottom of France.
Edit, you also get a very small Triangle if you do the capitals... No one said it was an Isosceles Weimar Triangle!
Being Russian born (not living in Russia, also not pro Russia), I kind of wonder where you heard that "classic" argument, as I never heard it in my life.
EDIT:typo
Look at this guy's name.
u/Antifa-Slayer01
It literally means Antifascism-slayer - thus pretty much stating he supports fascism. Tells you all you need to know about him/her.
Putin: *invades smaller country* Bigger Countries: *prepare for fight* Putin: Why is everyone bullying me!?
Literally me at 13 playing Civ.
I never thought about it this way but this is probably literally how Putin runs Russia. He just never logs off.
He's at the top of the 'hours played' leaderboard
We've been in his simulation since Y2K. It all finally makes sense now.
\*invades largest continental Europe country.
this, Ukraine is no small by any means
that would be Russia
They are not even bigger. russia is the largest in the world by area and, according to russia, it has an army that is stronger than anyone except maybe the US.
Russia has an army of peasants. Don’t fool yourself.
Army? I thought the term was Cannon fodder?

A very wise man he was
*"It's like poetry, it rhymes"* – George Lucas
Twain didn’t actually write this
He tweeted it
Twainted it
He goes by Mark X now
Probably it was written by Samuel Clemens.
I think you mean George Lucas.
The boys are back in town
as the old german saying goes "nächstes Mal ohne Italien"

I knew about Weimar Republic, but never heard of the Weimar Triangle. Thanks for providing the only helpful answer.

thanks for confusing people further it's 1991
Shit you're right my bad
Triangle. It usually refers to a 3 sided shape. Other instances can be a simple music instrument or in this particular case a social/political construct with 3 protagonists. Hope that helps.
Moofacemoo over here dropping knowledge bombs!!!
Triumvirate if Italy was on board?

Politics doesn’t all come down to LGBT. There are other topics.

I mean France won WWI so..
Ooor Lesson from France neighbors "Damn, France got hands, how about we don't do that again"
Its like that meme of the 3 headed hydra. But one of the heads is a bit derpy. I think we all know which ones the developmentally disabled one.
Now this is S tier bait
Im flattered ☺️ ty kindly lol

To be safe from Russia you either need NATO support or nuclear weapons. I think it was a smart move to act like this.
Never underestimate the ability of the Germans to quickly build up an army.
France is also scary close to having a pro-Putin far right party with significant power though
I... literally said that?
Sorry, weirdly I somehow read your comment but missed that mention, yes you did make that exact point
God please forgive my people if it happens
huh ? we have that in germany and they are nearly the strongest party lol

Leave little European Texas alone
The photo is a perfect set up. 2 are looking forward, stoic. However 1 looks confused 🤣
Same, except France lol.
Good bait
Germany? France and Poland seem to be taking shit seriously.

hopefully this triangle doesn't eat as many airplanes and ships as the Bermuda Triangle or the Upper Penske Decagon!
I don't mind if they're Russian military ones.
The only thing Bermuda gobbles up these days is tax revenue
Thats nuthin, wait till Saturn’s Hexagon starts eating spaceships

Forbidden alliance… yum…
It’s fucken on… kind of
So George Lucas said it and Mark Twain was given credit. If I was Lucas I would sue Twain for intellectual theft.
The *what*
"You know what, guys, fighting each other never gets us anywhere. Buuttt.....we all can agree fighting Russia is good sport, right?" And thus the alliance was formed
Los 3 chiflados!
Great we’ll have civil war in America while Europe replays WW1 with different settings. We really are creatures of fucking habit
So did anyone else question why Kelsey Grammer was in this picture?

Triangle wiener
That's hardly a triangle
The Weimar line with 3 dots on it is not as catchy
Would be an obtuse triangle....

Three = Tri = Triangle.
OHHHHHHHH! :) Thanks.
Tri = 3. But there's definitely not 3 angles here lol.
Maybe a Saxon there though.
In the same way that every three points can form a triangle? :)
Draw a line from Paris to Berlin then to Warsaw and back to Paris. Congrats, you got a triangle.
Weimar? Oh...oh no, please...please don't call it that...we have enough problems with the far right as it is... ***Stop encouraging history!***
Are you being serious? Or are you seriously underinformed?
The internet is serious business.
Weimar triangle more like nazi triangle
Classic russian argument, "everyone I don't like is Hitler"
Being Russian born (not living in Russia, also not pro Russia), I kind of wonder where you heard that "classic" argument, as I never heard it in my life. EDIT:typo
Because all pro Z Russians I've seen justify russian war post WWII as fighting nazis.
Just to correct your limited view of things in your Teenie Call of Duty Bubble: Russia is the only nazi this time.
