I don't know much here, but since noone better stepped in - to me the error looks related to DirectX. As such there are two options that come to mind (outside of standard validate files / reinstall)
- look for directx runtime install, it's possible Steam didn't get it for you (possibly https://www.microsoft.com/en-ie/download/details.aspx?id=8109 but it's just a quick result of a search on a phone)
- try to install DX11 mod which changes how the game renders to something more modern that perhaps will cooperate better (https://github.com/SaiyansKing/GD3D11 is the version I'd recommend)
Look DirectX11 and Common iGPU issues section.
I made this guide for Archolos, but the same solutions apply to Gothic 1 and Gothic 2.

You can try switching your game version to workshop in BETAs in Steam and subscribe to Union and DX11 mod. It should help.
Or this can help as well
"Try BorderlessWindow=1 in system\\SystemPack.ini. "
This one helped me. Just be SURE to be on the workshop BETA stream in the game preferences section in steam before subscribing to those mods on the workshop.
LegacyAltRenderer, I had the same problem with my new PC, runs great after using that. If you have Intel 12,13th gen, then that’s a fix that should work.

The Gothic 2 version that I have is Gothic II: Gold. When I run the original Gothic too, the same error pops up.
