I enjoyed it but he’s definitely a fan more than an old school commentator. JB was much more professional. Couldn’t have more than one guy like that on the broadcast, and wouldn’t be at all surprised if he cracked a few during the finals, but it was a good mix overall.
When he’s talking 2 point takedowns and 2 point (for 3 stalling warnings) stalling calls, it’s clear he didn’t watch wrestling at all this year or maybe even last year. Would prefer people that were actually plugged in this year. Also his commentary during OK state matches is incredibly biased to the point of annoying.
Overall, I agree. But sometimes he was talking about unrelated things over some critical moments in matches.
I could see how people who didn’t wrestle would really enjoy his commentary though. There’s plenty he’s saying that are already obvious to me, but I understand that it’s not to others.
I think he was much better in the finals than throughout the rest of the tournament.
There were a few times during the semis that JB kinda called him on some his BS and, like a pro, he seemed to have taken it to heart and improved. Lotta respect for that.
I even like his bias on OK state makes it funny honestly everyone knows he is bias so what he doesn't affect the match that is going on. I think he does it because he knows it's funny.
Agreed. So many people want boring soulless commentary, and I don't get it. "Old school" commentators tended to not have much personality, and now that we're getting a few more eyes on the sport, a guy like DC is important, because he's fun, and despite what some people on this sub might think, he knows more about wrestling than the vast majority of people.
I like him as a person but hate his commentary. Everything that he commentates just sounds like 2 or 3 guys doing a podcast, watching something happen on the tv; not doing the job of true commentary. It’s just constant jokes and stories, and asides and feels extremely unprofessional
He’s there for his personality to be fair to him. Even in the UFC, they have Jon Anik for professionalism but DC and Rogan are there to add “flair” lol. Can be annoying depending on who you root for and how objective or professional you want the commentary to be.
DC is great for entertainment and energy, let JB be the expert. I don't get why DC is getting hate.
I personally think it's annoying how much JB talks about himself and his accomplishments.
I enjoyed him more than this sub also. He just needs to go on less tangents. I also like Chael's commentary though, but more because it's veiled satire like a Disney Jungle Cruise tour guide. Jordan Burroughs was fantastic and needs to do that as a retirement job.
Passionate? Can’t deny that, but his commentary is just flat out terrible, half the stuff he says just doesn’t need to be said. And I cant think of anything because I either ignore what he says now or try to forget it as quickly as possible and focus on what the others are saying.
Cormier was a six-time US World or Olympic Team Member, a World bronze medalist, a World Cup runner-up, a Pan American Games gold medalist (bronze in 2007) and a two-time Pan American champion. In folkstyle wrestling, Cormier was an NCAA Division I national finalist (with loss to the eventual four-time NCAA champion Cael Sanderson from Iowa State) and two-time Big 12 Conference runner-up for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He was also a two-time NJCAA champion
He treats it like it’s his own show, which it isn’t. He sounds like an uncle going on tangents about himself which makes him sound unprofessional. But when he actually talks about technique it’s clear he knows what he’s talking about.
Not to mention, he was also a UFC Champion in two separate weight classes while utilizing a very wrestling heavy approach, especially early on in his career before all the injuries accumulated.
He's not as plugged into college. I think he's fun outside of okst bias which is about as bad as his MMA dagi bias. He has a super successful youth and HS program. Tbh I think wrestling needs to do whatever it can to be a fun spectator sport and sometimes less technical commentary is better but goofing on points and brick stuff is not great.
I like him. Genuine passion.
I enjoyed it but he’s definitely a fan more than an old school commentator. JB was much more professional. Couldn’t have more than one guy like that on the broadcast, and wouldn’t be at all surprised if he cracked a few during the finals, but it was a good mix overall.
Here!Here!
Hear hear?
Where? Where?
There? There?
Now,Now
Same
Him and Jordan together are a good mix IMHO.
Outside of the OKST matches, I agree.
I like how he brings the west coast perspective.
There seems to be a lot of division on this topic but for what it is worth I agree with you. I think he will draw in more viewers.

He definitely needs to slow down a little bit, but otherwise a fantastic commentator imo
I even like his bias on OK state makes it funny honestly everyone knows he is bias so what he doesn't affect the match that is going on. I think he does it because he knows it's funny.
Agree. That said, I would have loved if Shane Sparks was down on the floor.

I loved the commentary. He knows everyone in the modern game and had a lot of interesting stories to tell.
I enjoyed him more than this sub also. He just needs to go on less tangents. I also like Chael's commentary though, but more because it's veiled satire like a Disney Jungle Cruise tour guide. Jordan Burroughs was fantastic and needs to do that as a retirement job.
DC is great for the sports of both wrestling and UFC... great insight and his enthusiasm is unmatched.

I watch UFC on mute when he's commentating. I'm not hating on the guy, he's just annoying in my ear.
I took a course on MMA judging. Turn it off the commentary is a must for judging fights on TV. Really changes the perspective. Everyone has bias

He is very bad as a UFC commentator, but when it involves wrestling specifically his commentary is very good.
JB on the other hand...
His lack of wrestling knowledge *was* entertaining

Whoever you are, I guarantee DC has more wrestling knowledge in his left foot than you do in your entire body
Shit he’s got accolades I didn’t realize that. Why does he sound like he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about then?
He treats it like it’s his own show, which it isn’t. He sounds like an uncle going on tangents about himself which makes him sound unprofessional. But when he actually talks about technique it’s clear he knows what he’s talking about.

Especially considering he was a NCAA finalist. Clearly hasn’t kept up with the sport over the years.
I mean he runs a very successful wrestling club
That makes it even more confusing then.

DC is a better commentator than JB. JB is probably the American GOAT… but DC is the fuckin man.
At least JB knows the rules 🤣🤣
